plumbing concern addressed 1/3/2017

a device Curtis installed about a year ago began to leak, technician explained it was damaged likely due by excessive water pressure that is largely beyond my control...while the defective device was replaced at no cost to me, having installed a pressure value 8 years ago required replacement - aside from the unexpected, the estimates and labor was fair and performed well. Very hard & pressurized NBMA water has resulted in unplanned expenses but I'm very happy with Curtis, they were able to accommodate scheduling, were professional, fair and came prepared. more

please see below. I feel so deceived. I am just in disbelief. RESPONSE FROM Curtis Total Service: This customer called for our services, was explained that we do not quote prices over the phone on work we have not seen. We quoted $89.00 to send our tech to the door, our tech will then go over your repair options with you. Our tech did exactly that, the customer ended up having a large argument with her husband who also called out another company, (in front of our tech) Then told our tech to leave they found a cheaper price. They were never deceived. After trying to explain this to this customers wife, she went on for over 20 minutes on how we are a great company, tech was just great even while she was crying and fighting with her husband. Yet she demands her money back due to finding someone else cheaper! Unbelievable drama. At Curtis Total Service we always offer upfront pricing with excellent service. more

New Customer, Forever Customer 12/15/2016

I could get into a whole lot of detail here; however, I won't. Long story with previous oil company with whom I spent hundreds of dollars to do what I thought was their job, to clean and maintain my furnace once a year, and deliver oil. The relationship did not end well. I needed to find someone to clean my furnace this year (2016), and found Curtis via google. I weeded them out through several companies based on their tremendously positive reviews, although, I have heard of them in the past. I thought I was going to take advantage of their $149.00 cleaning special, and be done. When Matt inspected the furnace, he pointed out to me two major problems. 1. "Found exhaust leaking and rusting through." 2. "Found oil line deteriorated." This could have, no, WOULD HAVE, ended in a horrible disaster. Me dead, or my house burned down! Or oil leaking everywhere in my basement. When he pointed out the flue pipe deterioration, I could poke my finger through it. He showed me his gloved finger, wet with oil from the deteriorating oil line. Matt sat down with me at my kitchen table to very calmly explain the bad news. He offered a payment plan with a very low interest rate, as I did not have the funds to pay him for what became a "911" situation. He called a co-worker Brian to help him with the job. They were both courteous, professional, and took all measures to keep my house clean. It took a lot of work to tear out the old pipes and oil line. My basement was immaculate when they left. I referred my elderly mother to them. She also, was paying a lot of money to have her burner serviced, (by the same oil company), only to find out, the work left her with safety issues as well. After Matt took the time to show me the obvious issues at my mom's house, I, as a lay person, could not believe some things that were SO BLATANT, were either ignored, or overlooked. UV Lamp for Air Purifier 12/13/2016

Curtis charged $275 for a UV lamp. It was a service call so there was no labor charge. I thought the price of the lamp high so I looked it up online and found I could have had one delivered for around $30. I'm all for an outfit making a profit but to charge 9 times the amount of the cost of the lamp goes beyond making a profit. It's feels more like robbery. Fool me once. RESPONSE FROM Curtis Total Service: I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our service. We are also questioning the cost on the bulb you listed, it is much cheaper than what we can get them for. Please make sure you are getting the same quality bulb. The internet can be misleading. Our price also included us coming out to change out the bulb and a one year parts and labor warranty. Feel free to call our office to discuss further. The quality of work was excellent and cleanup was done so you never knew any work had been done. Only criticism is that I thought the price was on the high side. Never Will I Ever Call Curtis Total Service For Anything Again! 12/7/2016

My pipe outlet had a leakage. I called Curtis Total Service. They sent a gentleman who charged me $591, including a new shutter + $89 tech fee. I decided to call around (which I recommend you do before paying any money). Because I didn't use their services, I was charged the $89 tech fee. I paid and he left. I eventually got another company that charged me $298, which included a new shutter and tech fee. I saved $382. Just look at the difference. The same job, two companies. One is reasonable and the other (Curtis) overcharges customers. RESPONSE FROM Curtis Total Service: Mr. Totaye, We quoted you a price to replace your lawn faucet, not a shutter? The price was to remove the old faucet, enlarge the hole in the brick, and install a shut off valve on the inside so that you could shut off the faucet when needed. Curtis Total Service offers a one year warranty on all labor and materials and up to a 5 year warranty for our contract customers, plus up to 20% off any work done. I only hope the work you received was as detailed and included the same repair warranty. I believe we all know you get what you pay for. more

I highly recommend this company!! When I call them (and I have had many plumbing issues in my new house) they show up on time, are courteous, professional and diligent. Late for the appointment!!! 12/7/2016

Had an appointment with Curtis Total Service for between 10AM to 12noon. They didn't show up until 1PM. Besides that everything else was fine. They let you know what was going on step by step. Won't use Curtis again 11/24/2016

I've used Curtis a number of times in the past. It's been a few years since I needed any service. My tenants heat went out so I called around. Curtis was the only one that could get someone out same day. The scheduler was so nice, she did a great job! The tech was supposed to be there between 1-3. He didn't get there till 3:30. He called me at 3:57 to tell me that I needed a new ignitor and flame sensor. It would cost $1027 + $89 tech fee. I asked if I needed that flame sensor to get the heat to work. I was told no, but at some point I will. I said, ok...how much for just the ignitor? He said $486 + $89 tech fee. Based on my online searches that sounded way too high so I didn't have him do the work! When I said that's high he said, that's what happens with a big company like us. So I finally found someone else to come out. They came out, confirmed the ignitor needed replaced. Cost for their work was $240 + $35 tech fee. He also said the flame sensor is fine and he sees no reason to replace it nor does he anticipate any issues with it in the future. Consultation and work done in less than an hour! So not only does Curtis greatly overcharge (more than double another company), they tried to get me to replace a part that didn't need replacing. Despicable!! I will NEVER use Curtis again. At Curtis Total Service we offer a quick response to any of your service needs. Our technician offered you a service contract that would have included a cleaning, discount on repairs, and three extra service visits at no additional charge for that year. The customer declined it. Also we offer up to 5 years parts and labor on ANY service repairs under our plan! more

Workers were pleasant and professional. Price was significantly higher than I expected, but the job appeared well-done. There was one one exception. Workman had to move cabinet under sink to get to plumbing. The caulking job they did after replacement was sloppy. Also the caulk is still soft, weeks later. Was this the appraise caulk? On electrical and plumbing I would give CURTIS an A++ but on heating, plumbing and construction, I would give them a D- 11/2/2016

We had extensive electrical and plumbing work done in the house we bought this past summer. They were very efficient, professional- they didn't try to overcharge or push for unnecessary repairs and work. We have the service contract so we called to have our electric heat pump system checked prior to winter. The supervisor is the one who came he was arrogant, taking phone calls the entire time and pushed for very costly repairs without really reviewing the system. Between the electrical and plumbing upgrades and the electric heat pump checkup, we had someone from the construction dept come to give us an estimate on remodeling our kitchen. He was not at all interested in even considering the project, We went with Home Depot and are very pleased! The kitchen wasn't completed yet when the heat system checkup was done. That guy really criticized the electrical work done under the sink which you could see because the countertop wasn't in yet. Home Depot didn't do it- Curtis did when they installed the garbage disposal. We will continue to use Curtis for electrical and plumbing work but probably nothing else. RESPONSE FROM Curtis Total Service: I called this customer to ask her about this call, after listening to her i spoke to the supervisor she referred to. The couplings she mentioned to me, that she thought was the issue he was talking about had nothing to do with the electrical on the dishwasher. Instead she was told the "home depot" installed the water lines with sharkbite fittings instead of taking time to sweat good fittings on. He left her know they may leak going forward. I also reminded her that her husband was brought downstairs and shown the inside of their heating system which is full of a mold like substance and he agreed after seeing it. This supervisors daughter was in a serious car accident and was taking phone calls, we do apologize for this. Thanks for the review! more

I have used Curtis a few times. They replaced our entire 2 a/c units this summer and all went very well. They are returning next week for my Gold Plan followup for fall/winter check. Possibly a little higher price than others but I like the trust/professionalism of their service reps. I have recommended them to others. more
