Owner Is Terrible/ Bad Business/Bad WAX JOB 4/28/2010

Without being greeted at the front desk I told them my name, and that I had an appointment and they said that I would be taken back shortly. They offered me NO liability waiver to sign. I was finally greeted and was taken back to the treatment room by the esthetician 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. When she shook my hand to greet me our palms stuck together slightly due to the wax she still had on her hands from the client prior to me. This made me wonder if she even washed her hands between clients. Once in the treatment room she told me get undressed as she awkwardly stared at me while I changed, as if she was in a hurry. She then instructed me to lie on the on table on my back. She didn't ask me any medical history, like if I was allergic to anything, or if I had ever been waxed before. With that in mind, I let her know before she started the treatment that I had only been waxed one other time and that I was nervous about the pain. She said I would be fine...She didn't prepare my skin with anything....(I was assuming an alcohol prep pad, baby powder, etc...) She continued to use the same stick that was in the wax , then transferring the wax onto my skin and back into the pot. (For sanitary reasons I felt that a new stick should be used to deposit the wax on my skin, seeing as how I did not know the client before me or how many clients it had been used on prior to me). The wax is not kept at a high enough temperature to kill bacteria and other microorganisms; although she did manage to peel a layer of skin off of my bikini area. During the treatment I asked her if she had ever had any clients break out from allergic reactions or skin irritations. She looked at my skin and said I would be once again, fine. After she finished, the only instructions she gave me were when to schedule my next appointment. I was not given ANY aftercare instructions. I assumed the swelling and inflammation and the redness would subside within a few hours. It only got worse.I woke up in excruciating pain and heat rising from my bikini area. The next day I tiny blisters covered the entire area she had waxed. Mind you, I had a little amount of hair left in the center...the blisters were everywhere EXCEPT on the hair follicles that were left. My skin was still extremely swollen. My skin started peeling on my bikini line from being burned. I then walked back into the salon later that week to speak with the owner of the salon. She refused to assist me and refused to reimburse me for the cost of the treatment (which she has full control over). She said she would have to speak to her financial advisers before continuing forward. She asked for my phone number only and said she would be in contact. She never contacted me. I had to contact her, only for her to express there was simply nothing she could to do to assist me in this matter! She wouldn't even reimburse me for the treatment I paid to have this disaster! In the meantime; I am letting EVERYONE know on every review site, how terrible this salon is!! They are dirty, unwilling to help, and apparently they don't care what happens to their customers. They are NOT willing to help a girl out when she has the medical proof that they gave her a BACTERIAL FOLLICULAR INFECTION due to their unsanitary practice! NEVER GO TO THIS SALON. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN! Pros: nothing Cons: everything- more

I have had haircuts and waxing here. It's fun to order an Elixir tonic and relax. Also, sometimes they have complimentary cocktails. Pros: Waxing is professionally done and worth the pain Cons: The pain of waxing. more

WORST PLACE FOR HAIR IN THE VALLEY 1/12/2010

This place is a joke, there are no competent hairdressers here, the managers are immature girls that dress trashy and have tons of attitude, the place is dirty, expensive and reeks of nasty energy, wherever you go your better off than going here, even if its supercuts Pros: Free wine and beer Cons: bad attitude, overpriced and terrible service more

Amazing 6/24/2009

This salon is great! I thought my previous waxer was fast but this place is even faster and it's less painful. I'm so happy to find somewhere that has nice people and a smart owner. My previous place was owned by a complete idiot and she was so rude. This place was a breath of fresh air Pros: Quick and Efficient Cons: None more

Over Priced 9/4/2008

I went to Wax Poetic on a recommendation. HUGE mistake. All I needed was a simple trim. The stylist did a wonderful job listening to what I wanted and did a wonderful job cutting it. However, I was charged $60 for a less than ten minute hair cut! The stylist didn't cut any type of style, just trimmed my hair! To add to that, the front desk receptionists were not particularly customer service orientated and the place seemed dirty. The ambiance is not that impressive. I have experience working in a salon and I know that rates can be adjusted to the level of difficulty of the cut. I felt used, and taken advantage of. My hair cut was not worth $60. Who wants to go to a salon where they try to jip you off? For the sole reason, I will not recommend any one to go to Wax Poetic. Pros: Qualtiy stylist Cons: Over-priced, dirty, impolite receptionists. more

the worst waxing experience of my life 4/28/2008

I went to this waxing place without a personal recommendation from someone I knew, I guess that was my first mistake in seeking a decent Brazilian . I waited over an hour for my appointment and I was the only person in there. The staff at the front desk, one of them I believe was the owner, was so inattentive and rude. I'm not the kind of person that needs to be dotted on either, but they completely ignored me! The actual wax.. holy hell, what a nightmare. The woman was doing my Brazilian and my half leg at the same time, and was so aggressive. It was extremely painful, I couldn't catch my breath, my eyes were watering like crazy, and I started to feel really nauseous. I'm no amateur, and was shocked at how painful this was. The wax was boiling and I kept flinching every time she put it on my legs because it was burning my skin. I asked her to let the wax cool a little bit because it hurt, and her response was " Yeah well wax is hot" then again I asked her and she said "You're almost done" Are you kidding me? My skin was irritated for 3 days, and the whole point in getting the leg wax was because I was going to an event that I was wearing a dress for, that I couldn't wear because I looked like a leper. Not to mention my Brazilian was patchy. My friend came along with me and had a different person do her Brazilian and also had a bad experience. the worst place ever. I would never recommend it to anyone. Pros: I know to never go there ever again Cons: everything about it- even the bathroom was dirty. more

Worst Service, Stylists, and Attitude I've seen in 20 years 4/6/2008

I went to this salon a few times with different stylists and I was satisfied enough. Finally I found Nicole (NEVER go to her if you need color or attention to detail). She was nice at first and payed some attention to me, but then she got a new boyfriend and that's all I heard about and, apparently, that's all that was on her mind. She canceled a VERY important appointment I had made the night before (most likely hung over as she had explained she was before) and forced me to find another salon on short notice on a weekend. I didn't hold it against her and went back for a root touch up for platinum blonde hair. I spent $140.00 for cut and color and she literally singed my hair off at the roots. She passed me off to her assistant (who only seemed to care that his boyfriend was the way over to see him for lunch) and he applied WAY too much bleach to my already bleached hair, and I left with about 2 inches of hair on the top of my head, and I had medium long hair to begin with. When I called for a refund, due to the fact that I was basically bald on the top of my head... (I NEVER complain about services, usually I can fix it myself or it's not THAT big of a deal) she said "I knew I should have had you sign a waiver", and that was completely unprofessional. She did refund my money, but she didn't care at all that one of her regular (good tipping, by the way) customers was unsatisfied. Please, I beg you, DO NOT go to this salon or you will be sorry! They care more about socializing than taking care of clients needs. Bokaos or Renaissance in Pasadena/Glendale are AMAZING! Highly recomended! Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Best Waxing Practitioner 3/22/2008

Rosemary is a genuine artiste. Brilliant and attuned, always aware and responsive. Makes the aesthetic waxing experience palatable and endurable by means of focus. Her attention to detail is exemplary and unparalleled in my own personal experience. Pros: service, ambiance and staff more

fabulous! 2/13/2008

Kerry is an eyebrow goddess. she can fix anything! Rachel is amazing at color and cuts. She really listens to what you want and consults during the process to make sure you will be happy with the results. I love this place-I always feel fabulous when I walk out, even if im in sweatpants! Pros: good music, great atmosphere Cons: they often run behind schedule for waxing appointments more

Be nice if they answered their phone.... 12/14/2007

Wouldn't know anything about their service...wanted to schedule an appointment...called several times during business hours and no answer. Really annoying. Pros: none Cons: don't answer their phone more

Stay away 11/12/2007

I wanted to find a place closer to home, so I looked and found this place in Burbank. I went to have my back waxed and found the experience to be horrible. The results were awful, with many hairs remaining. I did break-out with red blotchy spots all over my back, which is something I never experienced before. This salon claims to be fast, but this speed comes at the expense of quality. I have been waxed before and have never ever had a problem with waxing until I went to this place. It would be better to slow down and do a better job than to rush through and get mediocre results. I am never going back and recommend others to be careful of this place. Pros: price Cons: quality, experience, more

Not impressed 10/11/2007

Not a typical waxing salon, seemed kind of like a book store or an art gallery... I got a brazilian wax, and lots of removable hairs were left behind (my boyfriend pointed them out to me - which is disappointing and annoying after I spent over $50 for it). The hair grew back really badly ingrown in comparison to the numerous other times I've been waxed. more

DO NOT GO HERE TO GET YOUR HAIR DONE 9/15/2007

Went in to get my roots done b/c I wasn't able to get an appointment with my usual stylist. All I wanted was to get my roots done and a small trim. No big change because I was going to a major event that weekend. My hair color when I went in was a light blonde, almost platinum. The stylist asked what color I wanted, and I said just getting my roots done, I like it exactly like it is, same color. When the stylist was finished, I had very ugly light brown, dirty blonde hair. I was in shock. I didn't know what to say. Plus I had a hard time telling what color it was because the lighting inside was bad. This is a slightly upgraded supercuts/ fantastic sams. Once I had a chance to look in a well lit mirror and stopped crying, I immediately went to the store and bought an all over blonde color. Fortunately it worked out and didn't turn my hair purple, but that would have been better than the color i left the salon with. DO NOT GO HERE. Pros: wine and beer Cons: they don't know what they are doing. more

Bad news 8/30/2007

I originally went here and left with a mangaled head of hair. The people at the front were rude, and everyone in there had a horrible attitude. DID NOT feel welcome. more

  • The Scene
This white and purple salon has a sunny disposition, whether it's from the light streaming through the plate glass windows, the inspirational quotes painted on the walls or the cheerful and welcoming attitude of the gregarious staff. Treatment rooms, like most waxing salons, are pared down and sparse. The reception area, however, is loaded with enough aromatic goodies, herbal skin remedies, and bath indulgences to make customers feel pampered and girlie.

    The Services
Full service hair treatments are available from color to blow dry, but the specialty of the house is waxing. Owner Carrie Hite is known as the "Anastasia of the Valley," and her staff consists of well-trained protégés, who will leave your skin feeling silky smooth, without a trace of irritation. These experts have been known to fix even the worst waxing disaster by coaxing hair growth with powerful concoctions and re-waxing to fix mistakes of others.
