The real deal! 4/9/2013

We had seen the DVD ads on TV for a long time, but never needed their service, but when the oven went out last week we decided to give them a try. First, my husband thought he could fix it with a new part, so we went to DVD to get it. Sure enough, they had it in stock, and the oven is 12 - 15 years old. That didn't work, so the next day I called all around town for prices on a basic gas, bisque colored oven. Very few places even had them in stock, but DVD had one, with a warranty and could deliver next day! Richard called before he came, took the old one out, hooked the new one up and we're back in business. No muss, no fuss. Thanks, DVD! for being a business of your word. more

Dishwasher Installation 4/8/2013

I really wish they would schedule their visits in a shorter window. Giving someone a 4 hour window makes for a lot of wasted time on my end. They do call prior to coming, but only to give you a "I'll be there in 10 minutes" warning; not much time if you decided to run somewhere. The installer was very friendly and nice. Did his work quickly. He did charge us for a small part which would have been nice to know ahead of time as I thought I had paid for everything upfront. My only negative comment is that when he did a test run of the dishwasher, he did not pull out any packing materials or papers prior to doing so (he did remove the manual however). So everything inside was wet when we had to remove it. We also noticed the top washer arm was laying on the bottom rack and had not been installed. I think he would have seen this had he removed all the packing material. more

New Range 4/5/2013

Salesmen were helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. Impressed with selection, warranty, and price. The delivery man was wonderful. He had the range installed in no time at all. He leveled the range. I had complain to my family the two previously owned ranges (purchased elsewhere) had not been leveled correctly or at all. I said nothing to him but I noticed he had his level out and was adjusting the side I had always complained needed to be raised. It's perfect. Cakes bake even. I would definitely recommend Bloomington's Dick Van Dykes. They even changed their delivery schedule to accomodate my schedule that same day. Thank you so Much! more

5 Years Bad Service 4/4/2013

Five years ago my wife and I purchased a Frigidaire front loader washer and dryer from Dick Van Dyke Appliances in Champaign,IL. At the time of purchase we also purchased an extended warranty. During the first year of using the washer, we encountered constant problems. Knobs falling off, belts breaking and the washer would stop running after filling up with water. During the past five years we have had the Dick Van Dyke service techs at our home on an average of three time a year (minimum). We eventually lost track of the service calls because there were so many. Because we had the extended warranty, they kept trying to fix the washer, but within a few weeks of repair another problem would arise. We discovered during the last few months of our warranty in 2012, that our laundry room floor was badly damaged because the service techs had not re-installed the water hose properly into the drain and water had leaked out onto the floor. The floor is damaged so badly that the sub-floor will have to be replaced. They have admitted responsibility for the damage, but told us they will repair the floor, but the maximum they will spend is $200.00, and they will only repair the floor directly under the washer.(not the sub-floor). The entire floor where the washer and dryer sit side by side needs to be replaced. We are considering taking the company to Small Claims court to get our floor repaired. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Their commercials are false advertising. The washer should have been considered a "lemon" under the lemon law and they refused to replace it during the first year when the repeated problems began. Now our warranty has expired and we not only have a defective washer that will more than likely have repeated problems with no warranty, but are left with a floor ready to cave in. We are considering taking the company to Small Claims court if these problems are not resolved to our satisfaction. more

Tough delivery. My fridge sits in a cubbyhole. My doors are small and to check the waterline the deliveryman had to crawl into a crawlspace (go figure). He did a fine job with nary a complaint. I would hardily recommend you. Gary more

Will not address damage caused following service call 3/30/2013

We are very dissatisfied with DVD due to their lack of follow up on damage caused to our kitchen floor. All we are asking for us for is someone they recommend to come out to repair our floor. They wanted us to turn it in to our insurance company. We shouldn't have to have a claim on our record because of damage that is their fault. RESPONSE FROM Dick Van Dyke Appliance World: We apologize for the water damage associated with your refrigerator ice maker. Our service technician replaced a water valve on your refrigerator and documented that the ice maker water lines were frozen. Our records indicate that you opted to thaw the water lines yourself to save the labor associated with the additional repair. The floor wasn't damaged when we left the home after the water valve replacement. When the water lines eventually thawed that's when the water started to leak. If we had been given the opportunity to complete the entire repair the water leak could have been prevented. Unfortunately, you will need to turn this over to your homeowners insurance to repair your damaged floor. We appreciate your patronage and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. RIP OFF 3/28/2013

110 dollars for 5 minute job...I felt like calling 911...it took them 2 days to get here...and 10 to 15 wait time when you call the service number...had to call 4 times trying to get a time range for the service call and never got a time...just waited all day until late afternoon...all the hype on their commercials about service and I fell for it...never never again...you should beware...could be the worst service I have ever seen. RESPONSE FROM Dick Van Dyke Appliance World: I apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused during your most recent service request. I'm sorry that it took us a little longer to arrive at your residence, but after an unprecedented 18.5 inches of snow we decided to keep our vehicles closer to the larger cities. We regret not being able to get to all of our rural customers quicker, but we were trying to give the snow plow operators time to clear the roads for the safety of our employees. I researched your service request and the service technician diagnosed an obstruction in your blower. The service technician gave you an estimate and you approved it before the repair was completed. The technician would have removed the front off of your dryer and disassembled the blower housing to get to the obstruction. The type of repair he completed would have taken longer than 10 - 15 minutes. We appreciate your patronage and hope to earn back your business in the future. I am very pleased. I had a service call on my old fridge after looking at a new one and the salesman said I should have my 10 yr old one looked at first. The service man Chris was very helpful and when I had to have him a week later he explained what else was going on with it. Chris told me what it would cost to fix and was helpful. I told him I would just buy a new one. I went back to the store and Doug Williams was very helpful. He explained everything about the fridge and was very knowledgeable. So I went ahead and bought it. When it was delivered by Lyle (I think) he took care of my home and setting up the new fridge. He explained everything I needed to know about operating the unit. I am very satisfactied with my hole process from the service to buying and setting up process. I will be a recommend Dick Van Dyke Applicane World. more

$50 for service call on 2 month-old dishwasher! No Free Protection Plan!! 3/22/2013

I had a repairman at my house today for a dishwasher that's about 2 months old. I use good dishsoap and wipe the bigger food pieces off the dishes before loading in the dishwasher, but still had little particles on my dishes (felt like sandpaper!). I thought a dishwasher was supposed to get your dishes CLEAN, but I was told there's nothing wrong with my new dishwasher! Since they claim they couldn't find a problem with the machine, I was charged $50 for a service call! YOUR WEBSITE SPECIFICALLY STATES $25 SERVICE CALL!! Was also told you couldn't give me an appointment time because the service tech provided you with his schedule each day. Waited until at least 12:00 pm to hear from you after someone sat at home for 4 hours waiting - everyone else gives at least an idea of am or pm appointment time a day prior. So much for the Free Protection Plan you advertise! I will never use your store again and will definitely not recommend. more

When I purchased the Frigidaire refrigerator,I was told that it would be delivered on a guven day at a given time. The salesman also said they would call 30 minutes ahead of time should a problem or conflict arise.Everything happened exactly according to what was told.These people are truly professionals.Everyone from the sales staff to the delivery/set-up crew.I highly recommend companies and people such as them. more

Our old micro had to be replaced and I went in to shop for a replacement. Mr Hawkins helped me find what I wanted and arranged for installation. After installation, we discovered we needed a carbon filter added as we use the recirculating exhaust. We had problems following the install process and called in and after speaking with several people - we got no answers. We went in the next day, and Mr Hawkins was on the sales floor, and was able to show us how to access the vent area and replace the cover in moments. Our problem was solved. My husband was able to take care of the carbon filter in a couple minutes. Thank you Mr Hawkins!! more
