We have been taking our pets to Old Marple for almost 7 yrs now and have always been treated kindly and respectfully. We usually use Dr. Wordley or Dr. Fitzgibbon and the office ...

I was a client for my 2 dogs at Old Marple for about 2 years before I left. The prices are high, but I was willing to pay because of the 24 hr emergency service they offered. Be...

Unorganized, unprofessional, money grubbing leeches!!!! 7/30/2009

The other day my 4 mo. old kitten was stepped on in the dark and her leg was broken. We immediately took her to an emergency vet in West Chester for xrays and a pain shot. We were told there could be surgery done but it would be more expensive there and our best bet is to see a local vet. We ended up chosing Old Marple (baddddd choice!) We arrived there at 7am they took our kitten in the back and we didnt hear from them for another 2 hours when they told us they were "coming up with an estimate" 2 more hours pass and we are taken into a room and given the price and all they were worried abotu was how were we going to pay for this? They said they didnt have it in their sched. to do the surgery that day and it would be put off until the next day. I asked if this could make her conditon worse and I was told No. We finally get out of there by 10:30. So the next day I dont hear from them. I had to call them over and over and I finally get the DR and she says her blood cell count is down and more

Churning up a larger than needed lab bill 7/29/2009

Mixed experience here too. My cat had blood in his urine so we brought him in for a detailed test. We told them to keep the cat for as long as it would take. They called later that it was done and we could pick him up. We did and when the tests were back they were inconclusive. The reason given was because since the cat wasn't going, they had to go up his ureter with a needle to get a sample. Often, they explained, this creates a tear that puts blood in the urine. So, to confirm whether the first test was right in spotting blood in the urine, they gave a second test, that if it came back positive was still inconclusive? A test that itself can cause blood in the urine? They generated a $71 fee for the test, and then another fee for a retest, this time without a needle. I was left with a bad feeling in my gut over this and tried to call Dr. Tyson for an explanation and a credit of the fee, but he would never return my call. They seem to be doing quite well, I think that they'll hav more

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. . . 7/28/2009

I have worked as a Vet. receptionist at 2 other practices for many yrs. I can verify for a fact that the Front Desk Support Staff need much more sensitivity training & education. There is no excuse for misinformation & subsequent attitude when the client questions that info. I had just brought my cat home, who immediately got sick from an injectable med they gave; the receptionist did not listen & told me to give my vomitting cat some boiled meat for a day! Their ER hours just began; she refused to let me communicate to the attending Vet or to see my cat's chart! For a nice fat fee, I could bring my cat back. That's Very Poor Business Practices! Instead, I fasted my cat until the next a.m., at which point I talked w/ Dr. Henry. I have been a long-time client of Dr. Henry's (who is an excellent communicator!) -- otherwise, I wouldn't patronize this business AT ALL. Dr. Tyson not only mismanages his policies, but HIS GREED IS EXPLOITATIVE. I was just informed that I need to start d more

Don't settle! Better vets are out there! 7/27/2009

The only reason I will ever use this vet is bc of their emergency hours. Don't ever try to call them with questions, bc all they will say is "Oh you'll have to bring them in" Even if its a simple answer. They have repeatedly told me that something will cost one thing, and then the charges end up being doubled. They're terrible at explaining things, and seem annoyed when you press them for more information. A doctor's visit is so expensive, you think they'd take the time to answer questions!! The one doctor (Catherine Tannert) acted like I was an idiot and wouldnt even look at me when she talked. If you find a doctor you like, write down the name and only see that one. (When I HAVE to go there i will only see Jeanne Wordley bc she is great. She takes her time and makes sure all my questions and concerns are addressed. You can tell that she is def an animal lover. If i could be sure to get her 100% of the time I probably would stay with Old Marple) I switched to Gateway Animal Hospital a more

Choose another Veterinary Hospital 7/26/2009

This is a booming business. I have been going to Old Marple Veterinary Hospital for about 20 years but I have decided to seek another Veterinary Hospital. Apparently they are more interested in moving as many folks through as they can than providing personal services to keep you. They may be busy but that is no excuse. Getting convenient scheduling is near impossible. You are most often referred to the more expensive "emergency" services if you cannot find convenient appointment. You may wait in the office for hours waiting for that emergency service too. A while back, my daughter, who was traveling 15 miles to continue using Old Marple Veterinary Hospital was told to seek services elsewhere from a gnarly front desk receptionist. She obliged. I agree with "Great Doctors/Not So Great Front Desk." In fact, my GREATEST complaint about this Hospital is the POOR attitude and treatment one receives from the front desk. I totally agree with Karen M and others, "Unprofessional, rude, inept more

Great all around 6/15/2009

A few years ago we came home from Thanksgiving dinner to find my dog had impaled himself on a stick somehow. We took him to Old Marple at midnight, on thanksgiving and it was the best experience with a vet we've ever had. Our dogs have never been so at ease with anyone, they're a little skittish and had developed bad reputations at their previous vets. But it's never been an issue at old marple. They seem to love everyone there. We've gone back ever since, and they've always been nothing but great. They're worth every penny as far as I'm concerned. more

If you love your pet, go elsewhere! 6/12/2009

Unprofessional, rude, inept front desk staff. Extremely verbally abusive on the telephone and in-person. I so wish I had read the reviews before taking my pet there. When I tried to speak with my pet's doctor, I was told that the vet was only an employee and he would not talk with me. Rather than go into terrible details, protect your pet and also protect yourself from these dishonest, scamming folks. Take your pet and your hard0earned money to a vet clinic where they treat you with courtesy, dignity and respect. more

Love Old Marple Vet Hospital 6/12/2009

I absolutely love this vet hospital. I have had very good experiences there with both my dog and my cat. We have been to several docotrs at this hospital. Currently, we have been seeing Dr. Henry. She is fabulous and shows lots of love and care to both of my pets. She is very knowledgable and very professional. I will continue to go there for both of my animals healthcare needs. more

Equal experiences of good and bad 5/1/2009

I have been going to OMVH for years and I have had some very good experiences and some very bad. We do really like the doctor that we are currently seeing for our cat and our dog, Dr. Henry. She is very helpful, knowledgeable and patient. Even with that, I waiting room situation is very haphazard and overstimulating to a dog that is anxious around other animals. It would be helpful if there was another area that we could wait where our dog would not be so upset by his surroundings. We have had some bad experiences also. When going in to put my 10 year ferret down, I was obviously very very upset. I was almost reprimanded by one of the doctors saying that "I don't have time for this right now". I was floored by the insensitivity. But, to make up for where the doctor was lacking, the vet tech that took care of us was caring and sensitive and allowed me to stay in the room as long as I needed to regain my composure. They brought all the paper work back to the room for me so did not have t more

Great Doctors/Not So Great Front Desk 4/9/2009

I have been a customer for many years. The doctors have been wonderful. Explain everything to me in detail. Dr. Lyons was the best of all, but they were all great. The front desk is another story. They have double charged me in the past, lost out pet insurance claim forms, the number is busy 90% of the time I call, and the girls sound very stressed. I was told I'd get a call back 3 times about a claim form and no one ever did. Then when I asked for the secretaries name (for tracking only) she refused to give it to me. I was shocked at how unprofessional and immature that was. But since they always give my pets such great care, I'll probably be back. Their prices do seem a bit high also. I used to go to Golden Mile Pet Care on Baltimore Pike. What a crazy place that is. They gave my poor dog a hysterectomy without anesthesia. When I questioned it, they said dogs don't need any. My poor dog had to suffer that unnecessary pain and agony. more
