They were quite good before VCA took over. Now they seem to be all about the $$$$$. Took us 45 minutes to retrieve our cat after we paid our bill for emergency services rendered the night before. On the plus side, they always have a vet on duty, even midnight on a Sunday. And they have separate entrances for dogs and cats, which is a nice touch for pets who are scared. more

Dr. Parker Sucks 1/3/2011

I have been taking my two dogs and cats to Old Marple for years. I also have worked at VHUP, so I have alot of experience with animal hospitals and the level of care and concern they should provide, and I do not shock easily regarding billing. However, Dr. Parker is not only the RUDEST but probably THE most INCOMPETENT vet ever! After discovering that my small dog was straining to urinate, I took her in, and since Dr Henry had left the practice, Dr Parker took my case. She started of by insisting that my 9lb dog have surgery right away, costing over $3000, without regard to what type of stone she might have. After finally testing her urine and knowing that a dietary change might pass it (would YOU have surgery on your own bladder if you could change your diet?) she STILL insisted to perform surgery. I explained that this would be too costly, since I am a single mom with no support, no health insurance of my own, and a serious medical condition. She admonished me...told me I was making more

No respect, professionalism, or kindness 10/16/2010

I was a client for my 2 dogs at Old Marple for about 2 years before I left. The prices are high, but I was willing to pay because of the 24 hr emergency service they offered. Because of recent experiences I am no longer a client.\r \r It started out that I had trouble seeing the same vet twice, and since there are so many vets there neither myself nor my dogs became comfortable with 1 vet. Recently, I took my 7 yr old Lhasa Apso in to see a specialist as he was having hip problems. The vet he saw did not even touch him; she watched him walk around the room twice and recommended surgery. I was surprised but insisted we try supplements or something other than surgery first. The vet said only that surgery was the best option, left 10min after she arrived, and handed me a large bill. I got a 2nd opinion and was given options from supplements to a different exercise routine to surgery.\r \r I went for a 2nd opinion for other reasons, as my husband's officemate was told her cat needed to more

Do NOT go here !!! 10/4/2010

Please if you are thinking of taking your pet here..go somewhere else! I just came back from the worst experience of my life. \r \r After having problems and seeing Dr Rose 2 weeks ago(he is excellent) ,over the past several weeks the difficult decision to euthanize my 11 year old dog was made by my family. I had called and also asked in person several times as to how this would work. I asked for charges and how it would be handled on the day of, I even asked if I could pay in advance so I could just take my dog and not have to deal with anything else but her that day. I was told it would cost around $205, we would come in, be put in a private room and we would pay in advance and have all that done then they would euthanize her. We could stay as long as we wanted and leave by a separate entrance. Okay so we braced ourselves for what we had to do.\r \r Today we get there before they start appointments and are put in one room and told the dog will have a catheter put in place and reception more

very unhappy 8/13/2010

Office is chaotic, receptionists are rude and they are extremely overpriced. They would not help or work with us to make a surgery for my dog affordable. We are now left with a dog that is in pain and we are looking to find a more affordable vet hospital for him. I feel like they could care less about the animal, they just cared about their pockets. more

Incompetent and uncaring 8/2/2010

Sadly disappointed -- front desk is chaotic and confused; prices are high; unable to settle a billing complaint (no response after repeated inquiries) -- immense charge for reactions to their own prescription, and sick pup not treated, even now, for the original illness. They are about collecting money and treat customers without respect. Do yourself and your pet a favor and go elsewhere more

We have been taking our pets to Old Marple for almost 7 yrs now and have always been treated kindly and respectfully. We usually use Dr. Wordley or Dr. Fitzgibbon and the office staff is very sweet and recognizes me/knows me by name when I come in with one of my pets. The few times we have been unhappy with any service/treatment the office manager has always addressed our concerns in a timely manner and made us feel confident to continue to use their services. I can't say enough good things about how kind everyone there is to our pets. more

OMVH SAVED ME MONEY.... 7/7/2010

I am really surprised to read such negative reviews about OMVH. My Maltese needed surgery and I went to Penn Vet Hospital, they told me the surgery would cost anywhere between $3,000 - $5,000. I was shocked to say the least. I got a second opinion from OMVH and they did the same exact surgery for $400.00 which saved me $4,600.00. It has now been 1 year and 6 months since the surgery and I have not had any problems since then. I am very thankful as I could not afford to pay up to $5,000.00 for surgery. My Maltese also had problems with reoccurring ear infections, which was previously treated numerous times by another Vet Clinic. During surgery OMVH also removed the hair from the ear and treated the ear infection (for no extra charge). My dog has not experienced an ear infection since then.\r \r I would recommend OMVH to everyone who LOVES their pet. I been going there every since and have not had any problems. more

Fantastic Vet! 6/11/2010

I love this vet... I always get great customer service from the front desk... one reviewer said that whenver they call about their pets health their always told to 'bring them in' because all they want is your money... I find this to be the opposite... I call and ask many questions before bringing my cat in and they always answer every question without making me feel rushed or unimportant... and then they decide whether they think it's best to bring the cat in right away or to try a few things first and if it continutes to get worse to then bring her in... Dr. Shelley is the best... she even recommends emailing her with pictures (depending on the ailment) so you don't have to keep coming in... they always make my cat feel very comfortable by petting, playing, or holding her during examinations... and unlike other vets I've been to, they let her roam freely around the room so she's not scared out of her mind being forced to stay on a metal table... you can tell by just being in there t more

Once good...now awful 6/9/2010

I had been taking my cats to Old Marple for about 10 years. Over that time, I watched as the prices increased while the service slowly decreased. But because I didn't want the hassle of finding a new vet, I kept taking them there. That all changed after the changeover to VCA (Dec 2009). All of the problems have gotten worse. Wait times seem to have doubled as there never seems to be enough technicians to help the frantic vets. \r \r The final straw happened when my older cat almost died when she waited several hours before they had sufficient staffing to perform surgery. Whoever took over for Dr. Tyson (former owner/manager) is even more incompetent than he was.\r \r I have since switched to Wellington in Newtown Square so that my cats could get the proper care from their former vet, Dr. Henry, as she moved there several months ago.. more
