I have curly hair and have never had anyone cut it properly-it's always cut and blown straight. I wanted a cut I could manage, and Robin gave me a wonderful cut. She is friendly a...

I?ve been in Atlanta for four month and I was in desperate need of a colorist. A co-worker recommended Curltopia - she said you must see Giselle!

Pleasant Experience 10/22/2011

My experience at Curltopia was very pleasant. The salon was neat, clean and nicely decorated. Surprisingly, it was not overly packed for a Saturday appointment. After having my shampoo, I did have to wait 30 minutes on the stylist to finish with another client; however, I've come to terms that that is the norm in this industry. I had my hair trimmed and styled. The stylist did an excellent job styling my hair. She really knew how to handle curly hair and was able to style it exactly as I described. In the past I've visited other stylists who've claimed to be knowledgeable about curly hair, but then immediately COMBED out all of my curls. The only negative I found was that some of their products contain silicones and the stylist seemed to be unaware, but I will definitely return to this salon. more

Great Job 10/15/2011

Today was my first visit to Curltopia, and I must say I was very impressed. In the past whaen I've gotten my hair done at other salons, my back was always to the mirror, like it was a secret as to what they were doing and using on your hair. Not at Curltopia. I faced the mirror the entire time so that I could see how my curls took shape. Jordan explained everything she did and even told me how I could achieve the same look doing it myself at home. She gave me a list of products to use complete with how often to use it. Thanks Jordan for doing an awesome job!!! more

Curltopia rocks my curls 10/6/2011

I've been looking for a hair stylist that actually knew how to cut and style curly hair and I found my curly soulmate..Jay at Curltopia. I love the music and the decor is nice and funky. Every time I walk in, I am welcomed and offered water and tea. And then I get to have hair therapy with Jay. She listens to what you want and actually recommends good products and helps you create your own hair regimen. She gives me tips on what products to use and how to use them. She shampoos, conditions, deep conditions and massages the scalp like no other. She uses mixed chicks, devacurl and any products that will benefit your hairs. I've had three different haircuts with jay and when I walk out those doors all I get are compliments. So trust, you will not be disappointed. BTW, call ahead of time and make an appointment because they are always busy which is a good thing. more

My Big Chop 9/30/2011

I had the pleasure of getting my first ""big chop"" done here. Stacy was my stylist and she was awesome. I was a bit nervous at first but the staff calmed my nerves...lol. Its a nice envirnoment and I was seen very quickly...basically in and out...which I love. I purchased Miss Jessies Curly Pudding which worked awesome on my hair. I am very excited about the change and very very satisfied about the outcome of the cut. I appreciate knowledgable stylists that give the best advice and choices you should make when it comes to the maintenance of your hair. I'll definitely be going back more

Great experience! 9/30/2011

maixine was great for my loc maintenance. She herself has those amazing locs I always want so I felt like I was in good hand. She listened to my concerns and selected the right products. Which, by the way, were part of the salons usual product....I've had to bring my own products to other salons because didn't carry anything I liked to use on my hair. I was very pleased with my style. I even brought my daughter in for a two strand twist style. Looking forward to my appt today! more

Great First Experience!!! 9/28/2011

I had a very positive experience at my first visit to Curltopia. My appointment was on a Thursday morning at 8:30. I arrived a couple minutes late, but my stylist quickly got started on my hair. After shampooing and deep conditioning, my stylist styled my hair in flat twists. Although my hair took a while to dry, I absolutely loved the end result once my stylist loosened out my twists. I loved the overall feel and chic d more

Better than expected 9/24/2011

After a hydration, cut, and flat iron all under $100.00 I'm loving my hair right now :) 1st off I'm grateful Curltopia fit me in on a Saturday. 2nd, I love the boutique look and feel of the salon, it was very clean and well laid out. The highlight was my stylist, Jordan! Her calm, cool, collected, & knowledgeable approach allowed me to relax & let her cut my damaged ends off into a fab style; something I've never allowed on a 1st visit to a new salon. My hair looks & feels healthier than ever. --Thx Jordan for providing several options and not pressuring me to cut or purchase products, unlike other salons. See you in 2 weeks! more

Curltopia is the BOMB!!!!!! 9/24/2011

Since you have come into my life the first visit with Maxine at Curltopia has given me some many compliments even 10 days after service and that says a lot for someone like me who really doesn't do anything additional to their hair after leaving a salon. Maxine took the time to explain and educate me on the in's and out's pertaining to my hair type. Come one Come all you will not regret the care, the education nor the salon professional atmosphere. Maxine you are one in a million. Thanks Curltopia for all you do. more

Glad I found Curltopia! 9/23/2011

Okay, so I did the ""big chop"" yesterday @ Curltopia. It is not like my hair was down to my rear end, but I am still in a bit of shock. Am I happy with the service, the stylist and the education received there? Yes! I am still waiting for my hair to grow on me though (literally). I discovered that my hair grade (type), took well to Miss Jessie's curly pudding. (This stuff is like a great modern day curl activator). At Curltopia they educate you about what products to use to maintain your style, and what works best on your hair. I know you think you can get it all from You tube, but I recommend you let the professionals guide you through this journey. My first visit there a weeks ago, I thought my hair was natural and ready to be styled as such. I hadn't had a relaxer in about 2 years. I had african style braids and sewn in weaves. I still had flat iron damage, and about a year ago I tried a dominican texturizer which was still lingering on my ends. Stacey did a flat twist to help transition my hair. The style was great but after two weeks I had to return to sit under the dryer for hours again just to have a transition style. I walked in yesterday in the impatient mood and requested the ""big chop"". So here I am today with a bit of a frizzy fro playing with products prescribed by my stylist. I am excited of what the end result will be on this new journey and I have no regrets. I am grateful to Stacey and Curltopia for taking such good care of me! BTW, If you can't get in there to see Stacey, no worries because I didn't see a stylist in there who didn't do a good job. Black hair, white hair, not a disappointed customer in sight! Good Luck! more

Made Me Feel Amazing!!!! 9/22/2011

I had my AWESOME experience with Curltopia about 2 weeks ago. I must say I was absolutely nervous because I had never been to a ""natural"" hair salon before and I had no idea what to expect. My stylist was Giselle and from the moment I sat in her chair, I immediately felt as though I was in good hands. My hair was a HOT MESS and she made me feel so comfortable that my ""mess"" was manageable. She began to explain to me step by step the importance of hydration, techniques I could use at home and started suggesting products. After her comforting me about my decision to get the BIG CHOP, I decided I wanted some color to help me cope. She is a genius at color. I have been to stylists who never get it right and she got it right the first time! I was completely amazed. After she finished coloring, cutting, hydrating and styling my hair I was amazed at how much of a curl my hair had to it! She found my curl. She gave me a detailed list of products to use and they have been wonderful for my hair. My hair looks amazing even though the chop had to grow on me. However, I get the most compliments on my hair that I have ever had. People absolutely love it!!!!! I tell them if only you knew what kinky mess I had before! The shop was nice, atmosphere was serene, and I was offered beverages several times. My wait was not long and I felt as though Giselle took the time to hold my hand as a first time client. I would highly suggest Curltopia. I was sooo nervous but I am convinced I made the right decision. I even made my mom go and she loved it! To those concerned about the prices, it is pricey but you REALLY get what you pay for! It is worth it! My next appt is tomorrow and I am so excited!!! more

My new spot! 9/17/2011

I will go ahead and give you the bottom line up front, I love the salon, and I love my new stylist Maxine. I got a consult, deep condition and trim. I waited a few days to post my review so that I could also comment on the recommended products when I used them myself at home... Because I am all too familiar with something being used in my hair in the salon and being awesome and at home being a disaster... First of all, I decided to try out Curltopia based on reviews on here as well as a fellow curly... I give them 5 stars for 5 reasons, the 1st star is given because they fitted me in on a whim, I got off work a little earlier than usual and gave them a call and drove right over! Love it! The 2nd star is for Maxine, who instantly assessed my hair and told me what was wrong with the products I was using and why I did not like the results I was getting. She also answered every question I had with facts to explain why certain things worked and others didn't... She taught me a ton about my hair, and not only educated me, but also taught me to embrace my kinks. Another thing I loved about her was she wasn't a stylist who turned every question into a 'why you should come see me weekly' response, she gave me valuable home use tips that worked with the products I took home! The 3rd star is because the products they use in your hair are available for purchase, and Maxine took time to explain each product she was using and why. And when a leave in didn't react well with a moisturizer, she explained why it didn't react well together, and what products look like in my hair when they don't react well together (and all this time I thought it just needed time to 'soak in'). The 4th star is for the environment, it is very cute, very hip, laid back salon with free wifi! My 5th star goes to the amazing receptionist who was all too accommodating and the opposite of pushy, I love the fact that no one pressured me to buy anything on the list of recommended products! (Even tho I am a self proclaimed PJ, and I did buy all of the products and loved them all as well) Needless to say, my next appt was set up before I left! more

Great natural hair salon experience 9/8/2011

I decided to try Curltopia based on the reviews I read online. And I must say I am very satisfied with my visit. I got a DevaCut, color, and deep conditioning for a very reasonable price (I've definitely paid more elsewhere for a cut and color). The stylist used DevaCurl and Miss Jessie's products on my hair. The decor and music was feminine and fun. I also loved the fact that my stylist only had one other person booked during my services so I was not kept waiting long at any stage of the process. The stylist was really friendly and talked to me about the products she was using on my hair. Overall, I really liked the end result and this was the best natural hair salon expereince I have had to date. I am excited to try the new products at home. I will probably make a return visit in a month or so for highlights. (BTW, my hair texture is 3c/4a combo). more

Wonderful Big Chop Experience! 9/7/2011

I chopped it off Friday, September 2, 2011. Curltopia was the perfect place for my BC! I wanted a nice, comfortable atmosphere, i wanted to be able to take pictures and video my BC experience and i wanted my best friend to come along and share that experience with me. I got to have all those things and more! It was everything i wanted and then some! My stylist (Maxine) was great! She didn't rush me, she wasn't annoyed by my desire to ""capture my moment"". In fact, she joined in and took before and after pics of me as well. I definitely picked the right place for my BC. As most have mentioned, it is expensive (IMO). I spent a little less than $180 for my hair and the two products i purchased. but, i wanted my BC to be special and it was! Now, my stylist said my finger style would last two weeks. Hmmm...it lasted about two days. The flakes from Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding became more than I could stand, so I had to wash my hair on the 3rd day. Now, I'm stalking youtube trying to find ways to moisturize my TWA. Even with those ""obstacles"" I still give Curltopia a thumbs up! I will be bringing my sister there next month as a bday gift to her. more

Outstanding hair care experience! 9/2/2011

Wow! I just left Curltopia today and had to take a moment and write about how very pleased I was with my entire experience. I had an appointment with Giselle. SHE WAS FANTASTIC!! Before I even begin, I want to say that Curltopia is over 30 miles from my house and it was worth every minute that I spent getting there. When I walked into the salon, I was greeted in a friendly and professional manner. Giselle saw me right away. That in itself impressed me as too many salons often over book and that means a long wait time for the customer. Not so here. I had recently removed a weave from my hair and shared with Gisele about my journey to finally enjoy my natural hair after being perm free for 18 months. She listened carefully to my concerns and answered ALL of my questions about my hair, products, how to style etc.... One thing I have to say that I loved was the steamer. A natural friend of mine told me how wonderful that it was and something that I ""must do"" when I find the right salon. I have to say that the experience was great and put lots of moisture back into my hair. Giselle did a fantastic job caring for my hair and gave me a beautiful two strand twist that brought a smile to my husband's face as soon as he walked in. It looked exactly the way that I wanted it to and told her how excited I was about coming back for my next appointment with her. If you are in the process of transitioning to natural and need a place to go, Curltopia is it. It definitely is the WONDERFUL experience that I was looking for!! more

Great Experience - Ask for Giselle 9/2/2011

Giselle is my hair stylist and it was great seeing her. She did a very good job and I have lots of compliments already. I've been natural since 12/2010 with Giselle doing my Big Chop. She has been caring for may hair off and on since that time. The Curltopia Team seems to work well together which is a plus. I got the Color, Trim, Steam Treatment and 2 strand twists. It looks great! Thanks Giselle. more

A Wonderful Experience! 8/27/2011

I decided to go natural about 4 weeks ago and began researching salons in Atlanta that focused on natural hair. A saw one of my colleagues who had a beautiful style; she told me she went to Curltopia. I drove to the salon that day to check it out. The salon was beautiful, clean, and inviting. I made an appointment that day. I thought I was going to transition into my natural style. Needless to say, I quickly tired of having two textures of hair. I called to see if I could get an appointment sooner than 3 weeks to do the big chop. I got an earlier appointment for 8/27. I was not disappointed... Maxine was my stylist. She was very personable and was very encouraging. She told me exactly what she was doing along the way. She made me feel very comfortable through my entire appointment. I now have curls! After 30 years of relaxers, I have beautiful curls! Mind you, after having hair that was chin length in the front and a little longer in the back, my hair is now VERY short; my husband's hair is longer than mine right now, but my hair is CUTE!!! Maxine did a fabulous job. And she told me exactly what to do to take care of my hair now that I'm home. She gave me a ""prescription"" with the products I should be using and how I should use them. And I'll go back in a couple week for a follow up. I left the salon so very happy. And my husband was so thrilled for me and my new look. I love Curltopia! I so highly recommend this salon for anyone who is natural or is thinking about the big chop! Thank you Maxine! more
