No Problems with UNC 4/18/2011

I have owned in the same condo unit for more than twelve years. UNC has managed our community for a least half of this time and I have found them extremely helpful when it comes to addressing our maintenance issues. I attend meetings and usually Ron Shearer is present. He is most helpful in explaining the ins and outs of the law as it pertains to our community. We have had no problems with this company. The company we had before seemed to be in bed with the developer. I would highly recommend this company if you need a management company. more

Brockway Springs 9/19/2010

Our association, Brockway Springs, in Kings Beach, CA, just finished a three-year, $5.3M restoration project. Yes, $5.3M. We completely refurbished four story decks, siding, patios, stairs, balcony railings, elevator, windows, doors and landings. It's fantastic! \r \r A special word of thanks goes to our president Jeff H., or General Manager, Scott T, the entire Board of Directors, and UNC Management. This team worked together to bring a complicated and expensive project to conclusion at $60K below budget. Great kudos to all. more

Hanging Tough 9/17/2010

At the last board meeting at our condo, an owner was livid because a lien was filed on his unit. He accused the board and management of being heartless, etc., etc. What he failed to mention is that he stopped paying his dues six months ago. As I sat there listening, I had no sympathy for the owner but I did for the board and management. I expect them to chase deadbeats and protect us dues paying members. more

Great Service 9/13/2010

Rosanne was awesome! It seemed like she was there all time time. UNC allowed her to go way above the line of duty. She helped carry groceries, opened doors when residents were locked out. No one can replace her! more

A satisfied Marketsquare owner 9/9/2010

I always had positive experiences with Rosanne and UNC, she was always very helpful and would work many hours over her schedule to address the concerns of owners of Market Square when necessary and was always responsive in emergencies. There are many other condo owners I've spoken to that had the same experiences as I did. more

If you want a prison setting this is for you 3/14/2010

Ron S. the owner sets the tone and forces his boards to act like they are dumb and he is the only one who knows anything. He bullies beyond belief - and has changed a happy complex into a fearful one. Pros: Too much of a bully Cons: Poor service, bad attitude, overly controlling more

Homeowner Associations: Beware of This Company!! 3/5/2010

Homeowners at Market Square Condominiums in Oakland (585 9th St., 94607) were EXTREMELY unhappy with Ron Shearer (and on-site manager Rosanne Gotelli's) ""services."" AF Evans, the developer of our building, used UNC during the time it controlled our HOA, 6/06 to 12/09. Ron Shearer is one of the most unsavory characters I have ever met. Contact the board of directors at HOAs that have used UNC for more information. Pros: Homeowners will Bond over the Mess UNC Created Cons: Extremely Unprofessional and Dishonest Property Mgmt. Firm more

THE ABSOLUTE WORST 3/5/2010

UNC deals on all work is at least twice as high as any other contractor that I have checked with or compared to other like HOA's. It's like your hiring a contractor to be the property manager. Certainly seems to have a very special relation ship with certain board members that let him pull off. Basically use only a couple of contractor's with no competing bids. If you see this company run as fast as you can. stupidnolonger Cons: worst management ever more

Responsible Company 1/5/2010

Our San Francisco association has now gone through another management company. Both have cancelled us. It is time to stop blaming others and come together as a community. I do not blame either company for leaving us. Pros: Responded Quickly more

Horrible Company 7/21/2009

This is a horrible company. My experience with a recent problem has resulted in nothing more then a ""blame game"". Avoid this company at all costs. Pros: Nothing Cons: Customer Service, along with everything else. more

bad service, lying, make up excuses 3/27/2009

The property manager Rosanne never respond to you unless you call her boss Ron at the office. Nothing gets done. Rosanne only call you to complain she works hard, and she's so busy. If you talk to Ron, you will feel even more upset. He talks to you like you were his employees, and still, nothing is done at the end except that Rosanne finally calls you with her complaints. The association fee increase every year since I started to live here 3 years ago, but they do not serve in tenents' interest. I have lived in other communities before, but this one is the worst! I am in the process to find another place to stay. My best advise to you: DO NOT LIVE IN ANY PROPERTY HANDLED BY UNC. Cons: expect nothing more

Really bad service, false advertising, lying 10/31/2008

This company seems to have an agreement with the developer, and doesn't act in the interest of the dues-paying members. Even though the the building is nearly all sold and the residents are nearly unanimous in their unhappiness with UNC, the developer Board is forcing this company on us. Large unexplained payments were made to the developer, a very inexperienced staff person was put in charge of managing problems, there is no tracking or response to the many issues that arise in a new building. Ex-policeman Ron Shearer does the Board's job for them during meetings, and then publishes false minutes. All the ""HOA"" decisions are made back in the developer's office, and not in open anyway. \r All sorts of promises of a community website, a community users group, complaint tracking, etc fell by the wayside, and now Ron says ""he's not very technical"" --Except the UNC website still promises these ""technology driven"" services. \r Use this company if you want to get ripped off, or if you are a developer who wants to rip off buyers... \r Beware buyers of 888 Seventh Street, San Francisco Cons: deceitful, incompetent more

UNC Praise 10/23/2008

UNC manages my complex and I have nothing but praise for their performance and professionalism. Usually, the ones who complain the most are the ones who can't play well in the sandbox. Pros: Committment to care and follow through more

UNC Community Management 10/22/2008

As a responsible business owner, it is frustrating to know that Citysearch allows anonymous postings. Nonetheless, each of these postings have been made by persons who are members of homeowners associations which are governed by a board of directors; to whom they should take valid complaints.\r \r ""jjma"" complains about dues increases; however, it is his or her Board that increases dues; not management. Budget meetings are open all members of the association. It is during these open meetings that member's views and concerns are heard. Furthermore, the economy, delinquencies and foreclosures have forced dues to increase in most associations.\r \r As non-profit corporations, associations can only raise dues to match expenditures. When dues are raised, it is only to meet the current financial obligations of the association.\r \r UNC is prepared to provide documentation concerning Market Square or any other association for which there is a complaint. Information provided will include board communication, direction and public action taken against posting members by the association's counsel. For this information, please contact our offices.\r \r Ron Shearer, President\r UNC Community Management. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

I would check them out very carefully before hiring. In the condominium I live in, the Homeowners Association dues where used to pay for the electrical expense for the second Phase of construction. UNC raised HOA dues by 5%, according to them, because of unusually high PG &E electric bills. We now know why they needed to raise our HOA dues. We are in the process of trying to recover the HOA dues that were used for the construction of Phase II of the development. In my opinion, not a company you can trust. more

Sleazy 10/20/2008

UNC Management makes deals with developers to protect their interests against residents. Non responsiveness, lying, attempting to siphon money to developer. Sleazy, aggressive and incompetent. Stay away!\r Pros: helps developers siphon money from unsuspecting residents - be suspicious! Cons: lies, ignores problems, attacks others to defend self more

UNC Poor Management Company 9/2/2008

This company has been managing our gated community for too long. It started with Bonnie. When problems arose and they were going to lose the contract, they sent Ron. He is very confrontational. He called me a liar at HOA meetings on many occasions. He also said at a HOA meeting that ECCHO was not overseeing HOA's, management companies or did they set rules or guide them. Then later used Ron used them to find a person to paint our gated pool fence.\r When too many problems arose from Ron, his wife, started coming to HOA meetings. She seems knowledgeable. Although she stated in a meeting that they (UNC) walked the property once a month. I am here most of the time and have NEVER seen them walk the property. They are managing the property by osmosis from San Jose. This property is in Santa Cruz.\r When another owner and myself had problems from a sociopath who lived here and we asked for their help, Ron said ""it is a personal problem."" This other owner and myself ended up taking the sociopath to court. He no longer lives here.\r I no longer go to the HOA meetings. It's not worth it to me. more

Non-responsive customer service and hidden connections 8/22/2008

Stay well away from this company managed by father/daughter Ron Shearer and Stephanie Stone. You will have problems from day one. Our HOA has UNC and UNC had a board member that was both A) a member of UNC's board and B) a member of our Board, without telling any of the homeowners.\r \r Stay away!!! You have been warned! more

VERY POOR Customer service...beware! 3/20/2008

I recently moved to a complex which is managed by UNC. The community complex is ""gated"" or ""locked"" to the public and the public had to ""dial in"" from the directory to enter the premises. Since occupying the premises I had to set up electricity, gas and telephone service. I phoned UNC requesting to set up my name in the directory so that energy and phone service can enter the premises. UNC had promised to enter my information the following day. However, UNC failed on their promise and failed to carryout their obligation/s. As a result, I missed 7 appointments with PG&E and telephone service. In fact, phoned 12 times leaving messages with representatives (including management ""Roseanne"") and emails formally requesting their cooperation. Regardless, it's been over a month now and still the problem has not been resolved. Now, UNC is ignoring my phone and email requests. UNC does NOT act in a professional manner and fails to provide adaquate customer service. I am currently considering third party assistance with regards to my concerns. Cons: No customer service, lies, fails to carryout their obligation more

Worst service ever. Not taking any responsability for its actions 2/27/2008

During the weekend rainfall, my roof have started leaking, after calling UNC emergency line and playing tag games with UNC management, I was able to get UNC to promise me that they will come following Monday. Took day off work and sterted to wait.. Mean while leak on my roof became bigger and bigger.. Nobady came this day.. It took UNC 4 days to deal with my emergency roof situation. Spot on my cealing from the small became humangous..\r \r When I confronted UNC , they told me that this is not their problem and they are not liable for any damage Pros: No Pros Cons: Very poor service. Telling lies to a customer more
