Toppers Spa/Salon Rittenhouse

I've been a cutsomer for a while and forgiven a few things, like hot wax being dropped in my hair but the straw that broke the camel's back was when I called day of my appt to confirm, the woman at the fron tdesk told me that the stylist left me voicemail that she had a dr appt. I never received a voicemail. No effort to reschedule me, so I have made an appt at Salon Thalia at 6th and Walnut. and will not be returning to Toppers. Pros: services are just OK Cons: rude front desk; worst I have ever experienced; pricey more

i went with a girlfriend to get massages and an express facial at toppers this weekend - what a disappointment. the massage was one of the worst i've ever had. i don't know if the technician was new or what, but he didn't seem like he had any idea what he was doing. not to mention the fact that the spa itself was FREEZING. relaxing is tough when you're walking around in a robe and flip flop freezing and shivering. then, my technician sent me downstairs, where i waited for over 45 minutes for my express facial. finally someone found me and said i was on the wrong floor. when i did get my facial finally it was definitely ""express"": the woman put some mask on me, wiped it off, put another mask on me, left the room for 10 minutes, came back, slopped some cream on my face and that was it. NO JOKE. if i wanted to put product on my face and lay by myself in a room, i could have done that at home without paying $65. waste of money and a total waste of a saturday morning. from now on, i'll go to Terme Di Aroma for massages, and to Anthony at O2 skin spa at Jason Matthew instead. won't have to deal with the snotty attitudes and poor service there. what a shame. more

I am terrified of going to new stylists -- you never know what you're going to look like when you leave -- but I was pleasantly surprised and very much pleased with Johnny V. at Toppers. He listened to me and what I wanted, but, more importantly, he KNEW how to cut my hair to make it look its best (I was in the awkward phase of growing out processed hair and had half a head of new growth and half a head of chemically treated hair). On subsequent visits he has made good recommendations and most recently I've had the keratin straightening - so far so good! Pros: Price, service, location, haircare. more

Johnny V. made me a believer when he rescued me from my previous hairdresser. On my first consultation, he performed some miracle color and highlight magic, and it's been a great experience and introduction to the wonderful staff of Topper's Rittenhouse.\r \r Being a former cosmetologist, I know the challenges haircoloring and styling can be for my type of hair, but it never seems to phase Johnny. I trust VERY few people with my hair, but with Johnny Valentine, I worry no more. I've followed JV loyaly from previous salons to his current chair at Toppers and I would even follow him to (gasp!...dare I say?) the Northeast, if thats where his shears were trimming. \r \r JV is no one trick pony. He is very versatile and works with you to give you the best style for you. Whether it be highlights, a cut, or just a blo-out, I always leave JV feeling and looking like a diva (not acting like one, though). Even though JV does stellar work, he doesn't let it get to his head - he just proves it on yours. \r \r I actually don't get my color and cut done at the same time so I can visit JV more often. I love his blo-outs and he takes his time giving me a carefully manicured coif. \r \r Visit Johnny Valentine at Toppers and you will not be diappointed.\r \r PS- become his facebook friend and you will get coupons and discounts on his services!! Pros: he's fierce! Cons: so popular its getting harder to get an appointment more
