Toppers Spa/Salon Rittenhouse

Johnny V. made me a believer when he rescued me from my previous hairdresser. On my first consultation, he performed some miracle color and highlight magic, and it's been a great experience and introduction to the wonderful staff of Topper's Rittenhouse. Being a former cosmetologist, I know the challenges haircoloring and styling can be for my type of hair, but it never seems to phase Johnny. He is always accommodating and even arranged my appts. and formulas with the salon when he was out of the salon for his operation so I never missed a touch up. When I took my son for a haircut, he was apprehensive moving from his barber, but Johnny did wonders and my son loves coming with me now, which is more convenient for my schedule. His Facebook specials are especially enticing in the economical crisis we all are experiencing these days, but he's worth every penny anyhow! Johnny rocks! I trust VERY few people with my hair, but with Johnny Valentine, I worry no more. I've followed JV loyaly from previous salons to his current chair at Toppers and I would even follow him to (gasp!...dare I say?) the Northeast, if thats where his shears were trimming. JV is no one trick pony. He is very versatile and works with you to give you the best style for you. Whether it be highlights, a cut, or just a blo-out, I always leave JV feeling and looking like a diva (not acting like one, though). Even though JV does stellar work, he doesn't let it get to his head - he just proves it on yours. I actually don't get my color and cut done at the same time so I can visit JV more often. I love his blo-outs and he takes his time giving me a carefully manicured coif. Visit Johnny Valentine at Toppers and you will not be diappointed. I got a Swedish massage at Toppers last Saturday. Violet was my therapist. She was quite good and responsive to my requests. The problem with Toppers is that its spa area is embarrassingly outdated. The carpet, which is a bit of turn off in itself, was old and damp. The furnishings were dated and dusty. The place looks like it has not been renovated in the last 20 years. The locker area was also old and unimpressive. The worst part was that there was a creaky floorboard in my massage room. So, while Violet was a capable therapist, it was difficult to relax because the floor was constantly squeaking. Overall, the experience was just ok. But, there are spas in Philadelphia that have substantially nicer facilities. Toppers appears to be coasting on its name without investing in its facilities to maintain its reputation. If you're looking for fantastic hair treatment with a personable and professional experience, I fully recommend Toppers spa, specifically Johnny Valentine. I have been a hair stylist hopper until I found him! My hair has never been softer or more vibrant. My color has held very well and was exactly the outcome I wanted- the blonde is not trashy, nor brassy! My hair is also rather thin and the ends split easily, however, since my cut, the ends have held strong and my hair is growing in beautifully. I promise you won't be disappointed :) Pros: Location, atmosphere more

I was previously a customer at Saturn Club, where I had the pleasure of meeting Johnny Valentine. After horrible botch jobs at other places, I finally found a stylist that made me happy EVERY TIME. Around Christmas, I called Saturn Club and was told Johnny was no longer there. They refused to tell me his new location. They suggested a stylist and I decided to give her a try. That was the worst hair mistake I ever made. My beautiful long hair was butchered with a razor. Every end was shredded. The highlights were 1-2 inches away from the root and were bright orange. I had a conference in less than 48 hours in Orlando and figured I would need to wear a hat the entire time.\r \r The next day, I randomly got an e-mail with Johnny?s new location, Toppers in Rittenhouse. I was so happy! I contacted them to see if Johnny could fix my hair. The salon called Johnny, and he offered to come in on his DAY OFF!!! He fixed the paint-by-number color job by the other girl and gave me the cutest cut. I got a ton of compliments! At that point I decided to never go to another stylist. I?ve seen Johnny twice since, and each cut/style/color has been impeccable! I was in there today and my hospital pager went off 10 times. I kept apologizing, and he reassured me it was fine. He even showed me a quiet place inside the salon where I could return calls. He stayed 1.5 hours after closing to finish. You will NEVER meet such a caring stylist!! I have recommended Johnny Valentine to all my friends and highly recommend him to anyone else. He has a fantastic personality and is a great conversationalist to boot! His color skills exceed those of any other stylist I have ever met. Johnny is a modern stylist with a classic twist, able to give you a trendy cut but adapting it to your look and personality.
