repair of AC for 1977 Porsche 7/23/2011

I had to bring back my 1977 Porsche after the AC was completely refurbished, since it never worked in hot weather (Sacramento was overcast when I first picked it up; I live in the San Diego area were it is never too hot). On this second time around, you have replaced hoses, put in a new compressor, and recharged the system. The car's AC is definitely better, but it does not cool the car down as I remember it to do. In earlier years, I could take down my Targa top and still be cooled down by the AC, even in a hot day in the 90s. Considering that you have replaced virtually every part, replaced hoses, etc, I can't understand why the AC performance has degraded. As it is, the AC is just barely tolerable. more

AC Repair (replaced compressor) 6/30/2011

Service was friendly and professional. Excellent explanations of how the AC system works and the problem that developed in mine. Repair was expensive but in line with estimates I found on the Internet and significantly less than another shop I checked. Only one problem: Couple days later check engine light came on, codes PO442 and 446, indicating evaporative system leaks. They were due to loose hose which almost certainly occurred during the AC repair job. But for that I would give full stars. more

Very poor experience 6/26/2011

My oil change took over 90 minutes, even though I made an appoinyment 1 week in advance. One person working on oil changes, although many mechanics present. Only one person ahead of me, although I was told I was the first appointment of the morning. Staff had time to congregate at "roach coach" for morning break and the atmosphere was leisurely regarding the pace of work. Although they appear to specialize in air conditioning, the facility had none except for an inadequate wall unit at the front desk. Waiting room was hot, inconvienient and had a non-working TV. Altogether miserable experience that cost me a morning off from work and lost more money than the Groupon savings. Avoid this business at all costs. more

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the care I was given. I came for an oil change and an inspection of my 1990 Toyota. I am pleased with the advice given about the care of my car and I will be back. I like the "old fashion" mechanic look to the place! more

Excellent service from a professional auto shop. 6/10/2011

This was my second experience with Polar Bear. The first was smooth. This time my car needed serious attention. Kevin and Art up front really took care of me. They let me know the facts and broke down the situation as to what was needed and how much I would be looking at spending. From there on out I was contacted daily with status updates on my cars progress and pick up time. Overall PB was everything I needed with no BS. Great guys and they've been around since 87. more

Latest service: Transmission fluid change 6/7/2011

I get very weary when dealing with my car service issues. Who to trust? Right off, Polar Bear Auto Care displays an AS member plaque posted at their front entrance. Everyone I have dealt with there has been friendly, courteous, helpful in answering my questions, and prompt to get my car serviced. When asked, they let me know the time it will take for the service to be completed so I can make arrangements if I need to. If I don't, their customer waiting room is comfortable and I haven't minded waiting. I have used their service twice now, and each time I have received the same friendly courteous service. more

Toyota Land Cruiser 6/3/2011

I have a 1977 FJ-40 with a Chevy engine and a Vintage A/C kit. No one has ever been able to get it to work correctly. Thus far, it seems that Polar Bear did an exceptional job. more
