Horrible experience and even worse food... 11/2/2010

My wife and I recently returned from a trip to New Orleans where we experienced some fantastic (authentic) Cajun cuisine. Yearning for some good red beans and rice, we picked up a couple of orders to go and took them home anticipating a culinary re-run of our trip. We were sadly disappointed. The food was so over-spiced we could not eat it. The tiny bits of meat did not compare to the huge hunks of sausage normally served in that dish. I spent 45 minutes trying to get through to the restaurant and could not. I eventually spoke with the manager who was supposed to taste the food and get back to me. (Two days later, that has yet to happen.) I want a refund. The food is not authentic cajun cuisine by any stretch of the imagination and not worth your time or money. Someone said ""C'mon it's CAJUN it supposed to be spicy."" The food in New Orleans, authentic food that is, is NOT heavily spiced. I lived in New Orleans for a number of years and just returned from a visit there last week (and yes I did have Red Beans and Rice and many other things). This food is NOT authentic according to anything I have ever eaten down there. Additionally, when I asked for my money back, I was refused. The customer service provided to dissatisfied customers is very poor. I have played phone tag with them for nearly a week and finally was told only today (abruptly) that I could not get a refund. Unless you like your food spiced up like molten lava, stay away from this place. more

Yikes! 3/25/2010

This place is dirty and gross. I had been there a few times against my good sense but the last time I went it was with a table of 8 - - two families. I asked the gal if we could split the bill: Her reply was a flat ""No."" There was not a soul in the place and it's really not hard to split a bill. Looking around at the empty place, the filth on the tables and floors really stood out and made me realize that I did not want to go back - - ever. On top of the muck, the ""no"" waitress looked like she just crawled out of bed complete with shaggy pants on bottom and a ratty beanie up top. I ordered fish & chips which weren't bad, but the shaggy waitress was nowhere to be found to bring the necessary condiments: lemon and malt vinegar so that ruined our experience enough to end up stating that I wouldn't go back if they paid me. more

Horrible Restaurant 9/25/2009

First of all, I have to say that the food and beer was pretty good, although not as great as it used to be. But that is about all I could say. This was the 4th time we came, and each time the service just got worse. The waitresses do not pay attention to the customers. When you ask for bread they bring you about 1/10 of what you would expect. Bread is cheap, but you would think you were asking for free main courses. Also, we tried to use 2 entertainment coupons for a party of 6 (We bought 5 entrees, 6 drinks, 3 appetizers) The book says we can use up to 3 per party. The waitress informed us that that is the way it used to be, but not any more. I went out to the car and showed her the book. She sent the manager out and he showed me on the coupon itself where it said ""one coupon per party."" I have never seen this in the last 10 years at any restaurant we have ever been at. Not only that, but it turns out the manager, Ben, is also the owner. He was incredibly rude and abrupt with us. This is obviously his policy. Treat the customers with disrespect and try and make as much money as he can. It will not work. We will never return! Pros: Good food, but deteriorating fast Cons: Bad Service & Horrile Management more

DO NOT EAT HERE 5/16/2009

The menu is unclear, unfriendly service & hospitality, insects fly around the seating section, and the overall food quality is not worth its value...and as far as the bands that play there? I cannot even get into it. My overall rating = Not Worth It!!! Pros: Great Beer Selection Cons: Terrible food & service more

Disappointed multiple times... 8/1/2008

I live across the street, and was loving the idea of an Irish pub within walking distance so I didn't have to worry about driving after having a car bomb :) Unfortunately the car bombs are the only good thing there, and they're expensive! The first 2 times I went my beer glass smelled like it had been washed in the toilet. The third time my then boyfriend threw up after having the popcorn shrimp. The other food we've tried was not impressive. And if you go after 11 they look mad like they're trying to close up and go home, on a weekend night! I guess we'll have to look outside of Redmond for late night drinks and food in the future... Pros: location Cons: Service, food, cleanliness, parking more

Best Food/Beer 4/28/2008

The place is Amazing, Very cool, the beer selection is outstanding, and the food was great. I love the place, I could not convince my wife to go home. I travel every where and I didn't see something like that...Cajun Food/Irish Pub....Very good, unique spot. I got banger and Mush, my wife got Jambalaya, oh boy, fantastic food between the best I ever had?.Well except my mom?s of course. more

Has seen better days. 2/11/2008

The Celtic Bayou used to be my favorite haunt in Redmond. Unfortunately, nearly everything I enjoyed about this spot has gone away in recent years. What used to be a brew-pub with decent food, great beer, great service and atmosphere to spare has turned into a character-less bar & grill with a decent beer selection, so-so (overpriced, over-seasoned, under-sized) food, and absolutely terrible service. Pros: good beer Cons: poor service, lack of parking, overpriced food, small portions more

Delish Cajun Food 9/17/2007

Was slightly worried when going in at 9:30 on a Friday night and finding us to be the only patrons except a few bar flies. For an Irish pub there was little life. The tables were semi-dirty and waitstaff not overly friendly. The hostess seemed surprised we wanted food. As we're placing our food order I have a fleeting thought we should go elsewhere as the waitstaff seemed bothered we were there but alas hunger pains were fierce. The food is wonderful, and large portions! DH ordered spicy cajun pasta and raved non-stop. He said the ""heat"" wasn't too much and still tasted the food. I ordered a large jambalaya (which could have fed two or three people) and loved the flavors and fresh ingredients. Corn muffin was okay, better after sopping up the sauce. We didn't find the atmosphere all that great, if anything severly disappointing. But the food alone will make us go back and try again, perhaps during the featured Irish music hours. more

This place is a Gem 3/20/2007

I always tell myelf I'm going to order something new each time I make a stop at the Celtic Bayou, but I just can't seem to get past the Bangers and Mash. It's the epitome of comfort food. This place also serves up a mean fish and chips, my girlfriend won't eat them anywhere else but here. The Bread Pudding is the best in Seattle/Redmon. I love this place and I haven't even made it over to the Cajun side of the menu. Pros: Great Food Cons: Booths aren't too comfy. more

love the place! 2/14/2007

great place to relax... variety of beers to try with always a new one on tap the owner is impressed by or wants to try out. the owner bartends a few nights a week to make a personal connection with the regulars and to have fun. in the summer you can't beat the outside sitting area. the foods is basic- but that is not why people go to the celtic bayou. there is new items on the menu regulary and seasonal specials that spice it up. the taste combinations are usually winners. if you go you will become a regular- there is a mug club- the place is a hidden gem in a quite random setting. try it out- and ask for eric- he is a great conversationalist and love to meet those that come to his restaurant. Pros: not crowded, darts, outdoor area, convienent location, great beer! more

Thank you for all the amazing words! 1/13/2007

We use to own the Celtic Bayou, and just sold it last april. The new owner is great, and still has great food! Different beers but still the same fun! Good Luck to CB, and thank you everyone again! more

I love this place! 8/26/2006

I love their beer selection, their fun atmosphere, friendly service, and great food. Who would have thought to mix an Irish Pub with Cajun Food! It's genius! more

An Irish Pub with a kick! 3/13/2004

This is a great place for food and micro-brews. The wait staff are always on and the kitchen staff puts out good food with presentation you wouldn't expect from this kind of pub atmosphere. Wireless connections are a great plus for those who can't quite let go of their laptops. 10 out of 10 for me Pros: Inexpensive, great food, great beer Cons: , gets loud at times more

Mellow Excitement... 7/24/2003

I watched this restaurant get built and eagerly anticipated its opening. I was not disappointed. The food is fabulously flavorful with a bite. I used to miss good jambalaya, but I know where I can get it anytime I want now. The brewery also has a fabulous stout for those of you who like a beer you can't see through. Pros: Great Beer, Flavorful/Authentic, Outdoor seating Cons: Parking is tricky more

Great Atmosphere, so-so food 1/19/2003

We love going here, especially at night cause it has a really nice atmosphere for sitting around talking. It also has great music, really good cajun french fries and good beer. The food though, could definintely be improved, it is overpriced for the quality. But We go there just for the wonderful atmosphere and some beers and fries. Pros: atmosphere, cajun fries, beer, music Cons: not great food, overpriced more

Faux Everything 12/18/2002

Well, I'm baffled. Friends, I've been a chef for 35 years, worked for Paul Prudhomme, and learned cooking from my Aunt Louise, who operated one of the most beloved restaurants in Baton Rouge and I can state unequivocally that the food at Celtic Bayou bears NO RESEMBLANCE AT ALL to actual Cajun food. Their hushpuppies have no onion in them, are hard as rocks, and badly cooked. Their gumbo just flat sucks, and the other Cajun stuff falls into that universal mistake of thinking that Cajun = Blazin' Hot. FALSE! The beer? Wonderful. The Irish food? Passable. The crowd? Self-absorbed, overentitled yuppie flotsam, whose overheard conversations have the same affect, on those of us who don't work at Microsoftie, of venturing into the fringes of a huge ether spill. If this is your idea of a great after-work hangout, you should get out more. more

Hot Dang! 10/24/2002

Great brew, good eats, nice atmosphere. They also sell growlers. more

Celtic and Cajun???? 10/17/2002

This isn't a bad place, and it actually does make some nice beers that are a great alternative to the stuff you can get everywhere else.. However, they seem to be all over the map: Irish, English, German, etc.. It would have been a better idea (in my opinion) to have stayed with the Irish theme (let all the other brewers in town make a Hefe Weizen). Lastly, I don't think the ""cajun"" faire really suits the Irish brews. Pros: unique beers, centrally located, attempts pub atmosph. Cons: no liquor, horrible entertainmen, celtic and cajun????? more
