Dr. Mandel's glowing reputation certainly precedes him and rightfully so. His professionalism, experience, and attention to detail have truly earned him his many prestigious accolades.\r \r Dr. Mandel will only perform a procedure if he is absolutely certain that your result will be perfect. At my first evaluation, my corneas were in such a beaten up state that he gave me a prescription for eye drops and asked me to return at a later time for another free evaluation. I had been to 2 other LASIK surgeons before seeing Dr. Mandel and neither of them addressed that issue. They just wanted me to make appointments for surgery. At my second evaluation with Dr. Mandel, he determined that I was a good candidate for LASIK. On the day that my procedure was scheduled, all of the tests were run again to make sure that we had the latest data on my eyes. One of the tests yielded results that did not match the previous ones. Dr. Mandel did not want to procede until he determined the reason for this. He consulted another leading expert in the field and I had the procedure done 2 days later. Every time I called the office for updates, Dr. Mandel personally came to the phone and explained everything. I am very happy with my results!\r \r Dr. Mandel makes his patients feel very comfortable during the entire process. He explains everything thoroughly and has a great sense of humor. Dr. Mandel truly cares about his patients and goes the extra mile for them. After wearing contact lenses for almost 40 years enough was enough. You cannot walk down a street in NYC without something blowing into your contacts. Wow is that painful! Dr Mandel and staff were professional,attentive and very patient. They are a very concerned and caring staff. The eye exam prior to surgery was so very thorough. After scratching my cornea when something got under my contacts a few months ago, I decided to get corrective eye surgery and be done with contacts and glasses. Several colleagues and friends recommended Dr. Mandel so I scheduled a screening.\r \r I was very impressed from the first visit...the technicians and staff were very professional and attentive, and I was very impressed by the amount of time Dr. Mandel spent with me answering all my questions that evening. The screening was very thorough and I had no doubts about going forward with the surgery.\r \r The day of the surgery Dr. Mandel and everyone at the office did a great job getting me ready and calming my jitters. As a Baby-Boomer, and an RN, with astigmatism, far-sightedness and presbyopia, I was skeptical & absolutely frightened to have the Monovision procedure done. I wanted to have a procedure that would result in vision correction with total elimination of need for contacts & glasses. After much web research, and listening to recommendations from co-workers,I knew Dr. Mandel would be the most qualified . His expertise is impressive. and he and his wonderful staff were professional, highly competent, supportive, experienced , used excellent infection control techniques , and were masters of this state of the art laser technology. They walked me through each step and explained everything. Immediately after the prodcedure I could read even fine newsprint without glasses! No pain, no problems, no worries! If you are considering corrective laser surgery, this is the only place to go! Dr. Mandel and his staff are extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and cautious (this last attribute is very important since we are talking about your eyes!). \r \r I first went for a consultation where the Dr. takes you through a large number of tests to make sure you are a candidate. In my case, I had been nearsighted since age 12, -5.5 in both eyes and I wore soft contact lenses almost exclusively. After reviewing the tests, Dr. Mandel advised that due to the thinness of my cornea, her would not recommend LASIK, but that I was a candidate for PRK. PRK is actually the safer of the two procedures; however I was told that the recovery would be longer (1 day for LASIK vs. 1-2 weeks for PRK).\r \r I scheduled the surgery and had to wear glasses exclusively for 3 weeks leading up to the surgery. In the meantime, I started getting anxious about the pain during recovery based on what I read after googling 'PRK recovery'. I was prepared for the worst!\r \r On the day of the surgery, I was at the Dr's office 1 hour prior for tests and drops, then I spent no more than 5 minutes in the operating room (less than 1 minute per eye). The whole time you stare straight ahead and don't feel a thing. My vision was immediately 20/40 or close. I went home and slept that night, and for the next few days was a bit teary but no pain. You have to follow the Dr.'s regimen of drops to make sure you heal properly (several times a day at first, and then less and less). \r \r Dr. Mandel follows you very closely after the surgery, at first every other day, then every week, then every month. Another great thing about this office is that they never keep you waiting more than 5 minutes!\r \r Now my vision is 20/15 and I am so glad I had the surgery. I had Lasik Surgery back in April 2007 with Dr. Mandel and I have experienced 20/15 vision ever since the day of my procedure. I was a little apprehensive after making the decision for LASIK. I had two consultations set up so that I could ""interview"" two different Opthalmologists. However, after meeting Dr. Mandel and his staff, I knew that I had found the right place for me. Dr. Mandel and his staff were incredibly friendly and thorough in explaining the procedure in detail at every step of the way. I felt very well informed as to what would happen and very comfortable that I was in the best hands. The day of the procedure, as I was sitting in their 'relaxation' room (massage chairs, beverages, water fountain), Dr. Mandel even came in to sit with me for a few minutes because I was a little nervous. During the procedure, Dr. Mandel and his assistant made sure that I was as comfortable as possible and before I knew it, it was over! Dr. Mandel's office is amazing. Appointments are always on time, his staff members have great personalities and the office experience is stress free. My lasik surgery took about ten minutes in total and i saw better than 20/20 the following day. I havent experienced any major discomfort and am already back at work. Dr. Mandel makes the procedure seem to go by quicker as he fills you in with the details of everything that is going on and basic small talk. This made the experience much better for me. After almost 40 years of wearing glasses, I was sick and tired of them. I was practically blind without them and wanted to see on my own. A couple of my relatives had Lasik, but I was still wary of it. I consulted with several different Lasik surgeons in my research. But none made me feel as comfortable or as confident as Dr. Mandel. I had been to other lasik centers before choosing Mandel Vision. What I liked most about Dr. Mandel and his entire staff was that I was treated like an individual. (Unlike two other centers I visited where I felt like I was in a mill.) I was so impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff. Dr. Mandel especially took his time with me and addressed all of my many concerns. I was really nervous about having eye surgery but by the time I left, I felt very confident I was in good hands.
