This is my third year with the Winkler Org, my experience has been great. I went with them my first year because most of their properties were close to campus, but I stayed with them because of the service I have gotten these past three years. My only frustration was an old leasing agent they used to have there, but they have a new girl in there that's awesome. She always gets back to me within one or two days. They also keep the parking lots really clear during winter time and that's huge for me. Take it from me- Winkler is the way to go as far as land lords go... more

I have been renting from Winkler for 3 years now. These people are great to deal with and will help you out in any way they can! In my old apartment it started flooding and they switched me over to a new apartment without any extra fees. The people they have working for them come clean and keep the place looking nice. In the winter time when it snows they shovel and ice so no one will fall and get hurt. Also, if you have a problem with your apartment they will come fix it within a day or two. I have had to get packages mailed to Boone and they were willing for me to ship them there and for me to pick them up. I would rent from them all time if I could. more

Winkler Organization is a quality Rental Apartment Agency. The staff here are very nice and care a lot about their attendants. Their office as an excellent organized environment and is very professional. I have seen many apartment leasing offices here in Boone, NC and they seem not very organized or as professional as Winkler. This is very pleasing and reassuring with the way they run things. I lived in Vineyard Apartments, and have appreciated the quality apartment living with my 4 other roommates. These apartments that we live in are quality made, with walls, windows, and doors being sealed very well, and thats something you want during the winters up here in Boone, it is very comfortable. The cost for renting this 4 bedroom apartment was very reasonable which included water, electricity, sewage, washer/dryer, and basic cable. This way is most desirable because most college students or even regular attendants don't like to hassle with a ton of different bills to pay every month. They more

They are not worth the hassle, they are very dishonest and crooked. They literally steal every dime they can from you. The rates are ridiculous and the apts are falling apart, and you have to pay for damages that were there to start with! I promise you that you will regret it if you rent from this bloodsucking, monopoly of a family! more

To begin with, those employed with the organization were very unsatisfactory people. Dealing with business such as fixing bulbs, appliances, or jammed doors seemed to generate argumentative tones in which on occasion I was asked to "fix it yourself." Seeing as how this is their responsibility as landlords refusing to provide maintenance on the apartment means collecting security deposit from tenants at the end of the lease. It's hugely inconvenient and frustrating to reason with people who are out to make an immoral buck. This and the fact that our four bedroom apartment only had one window, too...in someone's room. A very unfair deal to begin with. As you would expect, other unsuitable living conditions arose from their two-month long 7:00 a.m. alarming construction work that took place directly beneath our apartments. As a college student my nights and mornings are very important as I have late nights to do work and value what time I have to rest before my 9:00 a.m. classes. more

I also had a bad experience with the Winkler Organization. I moved into an apartment with a 50 year old Kelvinator oven ( Brand) that they insisted worked, however everytime I tried to cook it did not work.. By the way. this oven sat on our counter top. We complained and sent someone over to fix it, but it still did not work. They even complained because it cost them 50.00. Like why would you spend anymore money on an oven that old? Finally, after 3-4 months of a non-working oven, they put in a new one but just stuck it on a wall not where it should be... No venting and right by our backdoor.. We finally had to get the fire department out there to let them no it was not up to code and blocking the doorway. In other words, A FIRE HAZARD!! But did that work no they did not want to move it because we would loose some cabinet space.... After the fire chief notified them 2-3 times. it was finaaly moved. I just moved in to APP Manor across from cannon dorm. It is a renewal apartment which means that only one person who lived here last term is staying. I walked in and immediately noticed the disgusting filth that caked the entire apartment. The fridge had mold all over it and my toilet and shower were so disgusting it took me 3 hours to clean them. At the time of signing my lease I was asked to pay a $40 cleaning fee which I thought would mean that they would come make sure the apartments were clean before I moved in...apparently not. I have called them 3 times and went over to the offices twice to tell them that I cannot use the oven or stove because of how nasty it is. they promised me that someone would come over to clean it. It has been 2 weeks and nobody has showed up. Do not rent from them. The great location is not worth the hassle of having to deal with these people. more

NO support at all on illegal activity in a unit. We had to remove our student and am now being held responsible for the total lease. Winkler Lease should be illegal. Do-not sign. Winkler is the biggest crook in Boone. STAY AWAY FROM A WINKLER LEASE more

I cant recommend Winkler to anyone looking for apartments in Boone. As a panicked freshman who lost the on-campus housing lotto, I rented from them. \r \r First off, just a small thing. At my apartment, mini-blinds were said to be included. Nopeeee. Apparently, they're included...IF the last person leaves you a set? Sneaky. Plan on buying your own window coverings.\r \r At my apartment at least, they send a maintenance man around about once a month to check things like "suspected leaky toilets" and to "repair built-in TV stands" (P.S. we dont even HAVE built in TV stands). Anything that requires he goes into ALL the rooms. Basically, he checks in all the rooms to make sure you're not hiding anything. \r \r The rent is AWEFUL. They will take ANY chance to charge you for overages. We get overages every. single. month, even though we keep the thermostat at a reasonable level, and keep off the lights we aren't using. I live in a Winkler owned apartment complex and have never encountered any business as incompetent as them. I had to live in a hotel for two months after the original move in date because they couldn't finish in time. Also after being told we would have parking in front of the building, it was moved to two blocks away with no guest parking. For some strange reason they decided bullet proof saftey windows that do not open were better to install so we exactly ZERO windows we can OPEN in our apartment. Winkler also charges rediculous fees such as $30 for a lost key. And last but not least, they provide almost no useful information. Simple inquiries such as price checks take inordinate amounts of time or are just not answered. Winkler is absolutely terrible. I will never rent from them again and reccomend to anyone considering them to look elsewhere. more

My son's apartment has a problem with water leaking in after it rains. Happens every time it rains. Been going on for 3 months now and no plans for a repair.\r \r Mold litigation seem to be the only recourse at this time. Mold can be very detrimental to your health if not properly addressed. more

My daughter was promised parking in lot in front of her building down town.She moved from another apartment and paid more rent for this. Now that she is moving in she is told that the parking is 2 blocks away.Also she is living in a hotel waiting for the building to be finished they have not been cooperative on a move in date 1 to 2 months was the response. more

How crooked do you have to be to find ways to keep a college kids deposit? Take detailed pics and document EVERY blemish at move in/out! MAFIA???????? more
