Therer are only two bonuses about this place. 1 Jesse works here, and 2 the location. Someone needs to teach the bartenders how to make a proper bartenders margarita.

Best Bar in town 2/1/2010

Okay, in the name of full disclosure I have to admit that I'm pretty biased. I have been coming to the People's happy hour once a week for almost 5 years now, and know the awesome staff well enough to just tip my head or flare a nostril from across the room and I'll receive what I want from the beer and food menus. They take care of their regulars, even keeping a a special table set aside for them, but new patrons shouldn't be timid - everybody is friendly and upfront. The People's does everything a good bar should do - focus on great beer, keep prices low, have a line-up of well constructed bar food, and keep a laid-back unpretentious atmosphere. Pros: Awesome Staff, beer selection, burgers (w/swiss!) more

The Energy here is so negative and depressing! 1/22/2010

After i left this place all i heard was bad things. Here's my personal story, the bartenders rude and full of shit! Can I say presumptuous? I've never been in a place where the bartenders assumed they could invite themselves into the conversation! Every time the bartender opened her mouth my experience got worse and worse! The cooks are Great and if your looking for a great one HIRE JOSH! I had a conversation with him and it was as if everyone there was offended that he was getting all the attention! He was off the clock! Why would you be so condescending of your co-workers in-front of company??? So BAD! You need NEW BARTENDERS! Pros: the bartenders:RUDE Cons: the staff more

Never going again- 5/2/2009

I'm never going to this bar again. My first time ""dining"" there was my last. The owner of this establishment should screen the servers much more carefully. Our server grudgingly brought us drinks, food, and water. At the end of our night, we asked to split the check (a normal request). We handed the server four credit cards and asked it to be split four equal parts... not an uncommon request. When we were given our cards back, the waiter said, ""Next time, swing by an ATM on the way."" Bizarre... anyone who's worked as a server before knows this is unacceptable. Pros: ok food Cons: beyond rude service more

Love Peoples 3/18/2009

Generous happy hour with great cheap food. Nice BLT and the veggie burger is the best in town. I eat it and I'm a carnivore. Great kraut. Great german and local beer. Try the Kolsch and Spaten. Pros: great rotating beers, great german pub grub Cons: parking is a drag more

I love the People's Pub 9/15/2008

I love the People's Pub. It has great fish and chips and bratwurst. It is one of the few places you can get german style potato salad with your brat. The service is always frienldy and fast. The best part about it is that you can get food even into the wee hours. more

drink the beer, skip the food 8/29/2008

the review from 5/30/07 says it all: it MAY have been good, but not now. We went in on a Tues, early evening, looking forward to some great German food. Still looking. My pork cutlet was so dry, I had to choke it down with the beer; I finally gave up and left half of it. The red cabbage side was just that : red cabbage, no seasonings that I could taste. My husband's fish and chips were so dark brown, they looked burnt; he left most of his, too. If people reviewing this site really believe this is how German food tastes, I hope they try it somewhere else for comparison. Pros: good beer Cons: bad food more

Can't beat $2.50 jager/schnapps on Sat nights. 8/9/2007

My friends and I discovered this hole in the wall about 6 months ago and have been regulars on the weekends ever since. $2.50 jager/schnapps on a Saturday night? Yes please. The service can be a bit flaky but they make up for it in friendly attitude and freebies. There is also a collection of board games to play, which only become more fun as the night goes on. This is a great place for a cheap drink and a laid-back atmosphere on the weekends Pros: Great drink specials on weekends, Friendly service Cons: Often run out of types of beer, parking more

Great food and location 6/9/2006

Glad to see this place recently got named one of the top ethnic restaurants in the city by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine. I was there last night after a show down the street and noticed they added some new items to the menu as well that I can't wait to try! Pros: beer & liquor list, authenitc german food Cons: parking more

User review by fiat 5/30/2006

Perhaps this place made an effort to offer food that was meant for human consumption when it opened but those days are long past. What tries to pass for schnitzel would be more inconspicuous nailed to the bottom of a boot. The ""german"" potato salad was a hard pile of undercooked potatoes tossed with (are you ready for this?) MUSTARD! Go for the beer and stay far, far away from the food. There are other german pubs in the city that at least try to offer german food. more

Great People!! 2/14/2006

Last Monday night we had my brother's 30th birthday party here. It was a very large party and they went out of their way to accomodate us. They even gave us some birthday candles when we forgot to bring our own!.....The staff there is a class act and I will forever be a loyal patron of theirs! more

Great brats in Ballard 8/24/2005

When you are craving brats or german sausage, this is the place to go. The brats are always dellicious, as are the sausage and cheese plate, the fries (huge plate- split them with a friend) and the fried pickle. The beer selection is also quite varied and large. The only drawback is that the bar is very stale-smoky and could use some ventilation. Pros: Ballard, Brats Cons: Smoky more

Good pub 3/26/2005

I liked that place. We went there for my friend's birthday and really enjoied it. They have a great choice of German beer as well as good and tasty Shctnitzels. aiter were extremelly nice girl and she suggested several good beer choices. Atmosphere was quiet and nice (though we were there @ 5 p.m.) and it wasn't very crowdy. I would recommend you to check out their beers. Overall they were not pricy at all and we spend about $25-30 per person. Pros: Great beer, Good meel, Nice atmosphere more

Bavaria in Scandanavia 7/20/2004

All the pleasant German ambiance associated with King Ludwig's in Leavenworth is here. Love the ethnic food & Spaten Dopplebock. A bit of Bavaria in the middle of Scandanavia. Pros: Ambiance, Brews, Brat more

gets better all the time 3/5/2004

I've been going here for a while now, noticed they recently have started kitchen specials during the week - yummy! And they still have the best late night food around. Pros: good food, late night eats, cheap drinks more

The name fits 3/11/2003

This place is one of the reasons I love living in Ballard. I don't eat meat, so I was wary of a place that specializes in german food, but they won me over with the breaded tomato sandwiches, baby greens, goat cheese, and fried pickles. And they mix a fine cocktail if you're not in the mood for a malt beverage. Truly a great neighborhood pub; relaxed, comfy, good drinks and good food. more

Modern Day German 1/21/2003

Not sure what the last reviewer was doing other than advertising for another establishment...The Pub has 3 times as many German beers as that other place, and serves excellent, authentic German food (maultaschen, rouladen, several schnitzles..mmm). Top it off with good pub food late at night and a full bar, this place rocks! Pros: late night food, full bar, beer selection Cons: parking more

Late Nights 10/22/2002

Moderate priced grub , good german beers. Nice for late nights. more

Good but slow! 10/2/2002

The beer list is great. The food is tasty. However, they're REALLY slow!! We sat down at 7:30 pm for just a beer and dinner and didn't leave until 9:15!! They also stuck an orange slice in a hefeweizen - what's up with that??? Pros: tasty, Extensive Beer List Cons: Slow, Poor parking, Hot in summertime more

Midnight Fried Tomato Dreams 9/26/2002

This is the best Ballard spot for late night eating. I think the bar serves until 1 am and I love the Fried Tomato Sandwich. It's served on rustic bread with herbed goat cheese and cucumbers. For more traditional barfood they offer fried mushrooms, french fries and a bunch of authentic german food. Really smokey and service is really friendly but *slows* when they're busy (somewhat under staffed on busy nights, it seems). Pros: Location, Great Food, Open Late Cons: Smokey, REALLY DARK more
