Port of Call is a New Orleans gem, a real, honest-to-goodness JOINT that does not pretend to be anything but a dive (New Orleans-speak for ""Casual Restaurant-Bar for the Locals""...

Worth the wait 8/7/2002

The blessed Port of Call burger is probably the ONLY item of food any person would brave a 30 minute to 2 hour wait for. Yes, it's that good! Big, thick and juicy, the burger comes prepared to your request with a perfectly baked potato (can we say soft and creamy..mmm..) and fixings on the side. Order the cheeseburger (piled with enough cheese to share with the potato) and sour cream for your potato and sit back to enjoy the best buger meal! Not a place for kids or very large groups. Mmm! Pros: Good Food, Great Drinks, Unique Atmosphere Cons: Long Wait, High Prices more

Best burger in town 8/7/2002

Port O' Call is a New Orleans institution. If you are visiting, you have to go, just for the ambience. It is always crowded and noisy but if you like that busy sort of atmosphere, it is the place to be. They have the BEST jukebox in town, and the bar area is always packed. Their burgers, which is the reason I go, and enormous and grilled to perfection. They give you lots of choices for additions, such as bacon, mushrooms and others. In addition, they have ooyey gooey baked potatoes, chock full of ""the works""-sour cream, butter, cheese, chives, bacon and whatever else you want to add. Whenthey say ""loaded"", they mean it! The service may be slow at times, but it is well worth the wait. Besides, in the South, everything moves slow. It is just part of the mindset. Pros: Good food, fun atmosphere, great jukebox Cons: wait for tables, crowded, can be noisy more
