I walked into Mikel?s the Paul Mitchell Experience maybe three years ago after a two year stint overseas, meaning no one touched my hair and it showed. My hair was dry, faded, from processed water, the desert sun and heat?it was so thin I thought I would never get it back to a healthy state. Then driving around looking at just the entrance to a list of salons I had Googled, yes, I?m picky, I saw Mikel?s. I liked what I saw, went home and made and appointment for a tour. The first thing that impressed me about Mikel?s was not that Immediately as you walked in you are greeted by Gerry or one of the fine staff and asked if you would like a beverage, I love that, trust me I do, but what sold me was at Mikel?s it was and is all about the hair. This is a no nonsense, get comfortable and be assured you are going to walk out feeling as if you had spent the day at a spa. They listen, talk to you and give you guidance to maintain?.I LOVE IT! Mikel?s staff routinely attend hair shows not just locally but international as well and that translates that they are serious about keeping their skills current and sharing it with their clients. You will love the energetic staff, ver professional but at the same time you are among friends, they keep the place lively. Shannon, my stylist, her hands should be insured, they keep me looking outstanding, I LOVE MY HAIR!! The Salon is laid out perfectly for what stage you are at, not crowded into one room?the Design Center, Color Bar and Lather Lounge are separated into their own space. I went to Mikel's because I was referred there by a friend. Upon walking in I was greeted by a choice of wine or infused water which was served on a tray with a flower and snacks. I was then taken on a tour of the salon, all of this before my actual appointment..I loved it! It was clean and classy and everyone was very nice and professional. my haircut was new and edgy. i have long thick african american hair that was never relaxed and Stephen my stylist has been able to style me everytime in the latest styles I could never have before! I love this salon! Ill never go anywhere else! more

I moved to the Tampa Bay area about 16 years ago. It took close to 3 years to find Mikel through a friend at work. I have natural curly hair and have had hair stylists butcher my curls . . . not a pretty look. At the time Mikel had the most gorgeous, long curly hair. He had a part-time receptionist and I thought, he's got to know what he's doing. From the first cut, my hair bounced in to shape. After about 5 years of getting a shape up 3 times a year, I was starting show those dreaded gray hairs and asked Mikel for a suggestion. I didn't want it to look fake, which Mikel thought was funny. When he was finished, you couldn't tell I had strategically placed highlights to cover the gray. Needless to say, I started visiting much more frequently. About 4 years ago, I had a mid-life crises and saw Mikel and Team every 4 weeks to change up the color - red from brown, add extensions - just because, and cut - long to short to sideways! I had a ton of fun, however, my husband was terrified I was going to come home bald. more

A friend recommended Mikel's over 5 years ago and I've never looked back! From when you walk in the door to when you leave, you will completely enjoy the experience at Mikel's. They always greet their Clients with genuine smiles and ask what you'd like from their drink & snack menu. Your experience continues with quality services and products (Shannon does my hair!). Now, some of my girlfriends also go to Shannon! When you enter the Lather Lounge, it is a very relaxing and soothing experience, which one really looks forward to every visit. As you leave, you are left with a smile because everyone is so friendly and professional. It is visible all of the staff appreciate their Clients. The staff stays current with hair techniques, applications and products since they frequently take Continued Education classes. Mikel's is worth your time and money, and that is why I book my reservations for every 8 weeks. more

One day, on the recommendation from a friend, I walked into Mikel's salon hoping he could finally get my hair color just right after many others had failed. I was also hoping he could do something with my naturally frizzy, curls. I walked out with beautiful color and the softest, straightest hair I had ever had in my life!!! For the past 5+ years I have been enjoying the ultimate in customer service and hair experience. You get the feeling you are family when you are there and always look forward to making that next appointment. Each visit is special as you make your choice of what upgrades you would like in the Lather Lounge. It is paradise relaxing with just the right music and for me, a neck and back massage to go along with a heavenly shampoo by one of their professionals.. There are other choices to enjoy but those are two of my personal favorites. To help make it the ultimate experience, you have your choice of beverages (including coffee,wines,Bailey's, waters, etc) and snacks. Stephen is superb in hair coloring, stying and finishing my hair. I have gotten so many compliments the past 5 years that I,truly, have not gone anywhere else. I travel from Brandon to go to Mikel's for the best in customer service and pure enjoyment. When it comes to customer service, Mikel's takes the lead. From the moment you enter you are treated as a special 'guest' and not just another customer. You are greeted as soon as you walk in and offered a beverage and a snack. The staff are extremely professional and work well together and quickly learn your name whether you are their guest or not. I felt very fortunate to have learned of Mikel's about four years ago and have not thought about going anywhere else. Samantha is an artist when it comes to hair coloring and I constantly receive compliments at work and when I'm out . The lather lounge is a relaxing experience I look forward to with every visit. When I leave I feel as if I had just spent time at a spa. I will continue to refer friends to Mikel's. more

I have lived in Tampa for a long time and have been to many salons but Mikel's is the best! I get my hair done once a month by Shannon and the cut and color is always perfect. The staff is always professional and the lather lounge is amazing. I've referred many friends to Mikel's and all of them have had wonderful things to say about their experience as well. more

The best salon I have ever been too! I have naturally curly thick hair and I have tried so many salons trying to find the right one. Since finding Mikel's I can honestly say I have found a salon that meets all my needs. The staff is friendly and warm and the atmosphere is awesome! It's true what they say about Blondes having more fun EXCEPT when it comes to finding a hair studio with expertise in blondes. Mikel's is a rare gem. I moved to Tampa eight (8) years ago and after many failed attempts to find a salon I stumbled across Mikel's. During the first visit I was greeted by a hostess that showed me the salon and prepared me for my experience. I was a little leery by the approach as I was worried they put more attention into the marketing than the expertise in the final cut/color. But my concerns were quickly dissolved when they lead me into the color studio and demonstrated their breadth of knowledge by referencing a color strand portfolio. This allowed me to choose the right shades and tones and direct them away from what I didn't want. It was obvious to me at the end of my first appointment that they care for every detail including the moment you walk into the salon to the finish product. I've been pleased with my color and cut for over seven (7) years now. The staff is welcoming, warm and caring while Samantha is one of their best designers and brings her passion and experience to each appointment. The entire staff is dedicated to their education and the latest trends, you will not be disappointed and you will be pleasantly surprised by your new frest look. I moved to Tampa 6 years ago and visited many many salons (even traveling back to Atlanta at times) trying to find one I could consistenly get great color and a hair cut. Finally Mikel's! I have been a customer for 4 years and have never been more pleased. I have naturally frizzy hair that doesn't like the Florida weather, yet Samantha has managed to tame my hair and give me color and highlights that compliment my current hair cut. When you visit the salon, the environment is friendly and relaxing (love the lather lounge!). Samantha's knowledge of the Paul Mitchell Products has helped created just the right products for me. We have all been to hair salon's that do a good job but over time, you find yourself less then satisfied.... Well, I have been a regularly customer of Mikel's for the past 11 years and can testify that I consistently get a great cut and color every time. Mikel, master stylist, is known thought out the country for his work with Paul Mitchell Products and Education. He takes the time to get to know his clients and provide excellent customer service. I am not one to spend a ton of money pampering myself. Mikel's is an incredible hair experience, and I don't feel guilty about splurging a bit because the prices are unbelievably low. Dillon Kramer is an AMAZING stylist. He has very inventive ideas and executes them flawlessly. Colors, cuts, and techniques I could never even dream of; I give him creative freedom and have never been less than awestruck at the results. His scalp massages make my week! This is far from just a haircut, it is truly a hair experience! more

I love Mikel's salon. It is a high end salon with the prices of a cheaper salon. You get the service that you would get at a salon that a celebrity goes to. Dillon is an AMAZING stylist and he is the most talented stylist I have ever come across in my life! You don't have to think twice about making an appointment with them! I would highly recommend this salon to all & have done so! My husband &others have gone after my ranting and raving about how fabulous it was & worth every cent. Samantha Tanis has cut/colored my hair, cut my friends and husbands and we have all been extremely pleased and still are. I loved my cut and color so much - I felt like a new woman & seriously looked like one, had men beeping horns and whistling... Unfortunately I love the cut so much, I haven't gone back to get a cut in many months & was thinking of going to Mikels just so I could visit again, and have some wine and hot nuts & socialize with the fabulous staff! When you walk in the door it is truly an experience, everyone is friendly & professional, you are treated exquisitely, For your wash/conditioner and rinse you go to The Lather Lounge with your choice of 2 free upgrades, which include massages, parafin hand wax. bean bag eye mask & face massage, Tea Tree steam facial... or .....others, in a nice dark room with lovely relazing music playing -- Ahhhh, wish I were there NOW. It is like going to a mini spa and also getting fabulous work done on your hair - and don't forget the complimentary beverages & snacks served on a lovely tray& if you are lucky like I was, you will even make some friends. I will NEVER get my hair done any where else, nor will others I have referred. I would really like to have Mikel cut my hair at least once...currently I can't afford him - but one never knows what the future holds. I am actually glad I couldn't afford the MASTER Mikel on my 1st visit- because then I would not have had the pleasure to meet Samantha - she's a gem & does Amazing Things with your hair! This is my first time writing a review, but I felt compelled to do so after reading the prior reviews of Mikel's. My husband, son, and I have been going to Mikel's since October of 2007 and have enjoyed every visit. My mother, who lives in the Panhandle, insists on booking a visit when she is in the area, too. What I like best about the salon is that I do not have to sit in the same boring chair while I am having my hair colored and cut. Instead, I move from a room where I have my hair colored to a room where I have my hair washed and rinsed (the highlight of my visit), and finally I settle in to the front room where my hair is cut and styled. Having my hair washed and rinsed is the highlight of my visit because I receive up to two FREE perks (hands dipped, steam towel on my face, scalp massage, etc.) at this time. My husband enjoys getting the scalp massage and drinking a cold beer during his hair cut. I realize hair is an important part of someone's identity and that is why I have recommended this salon to all of my friends because I trust the people who work there. They all have had positive experiences and are repeat customers. more
