I appreciate Meurice!! 7/18/2011

I have been a long time Meurice customer, 22 years to be exact, and in that period of time I have not one complaint. Considering the amount of time thats pretty remarkable. They always seem to take great pride in what they do and it shows in the work. The best example of this was when had my Corneliani suit repaired by them. There was significant wear visible all around the entire jacket. I knew if there was a chance for this jacket to get its new look back I had to go to Meurice. A short period of time later I received the jacket and was more than satisfied with the result. I have only good thing to say about them. 5 stars! more

Irresponsible and corrupt! 6/14/2011

I brought in 3 custom sports jacket to be cleaned for which they insisted on removing the buttons (required, they said) and charged me for removing the buttons: they proceeded to replace the buttons onto the incorrect jackets, AND LOST SOME OF THE BUTTONS!!! I normally would not care, but the buttons we're custom as well!!! GO TO WORLD CLASS or MADAME PAULETTE if you want better service, and QUALITY work!!! more

Terrible Dry Cleaner 4/20/2011

They must be desperate for money. Not only did they charge my credit card without my permission, they also charged me for items that weren't even cleaned. This was a terrible experience. I would NEVER go back. Make sure you look over your bill! They claimed they have an authorization form on file, but have failed to present any such form -- because I never signed one. Totally CORRUPT! more

Worst Dry Cleaner in New York 4/19/2011

This is the WORSE dry cleaner in the city. I have had several instances where I have had problems with this dry cleaners. Several years ago, I brought in a vintage pucci dress. And there was some wear under the arm. I asked them to sew up the hole. Instead of doing so, they cut out the underarm material and put in a flannel pink material -- ruining a beautiful vintage PUCCI dress. In another instance, I won a case against them in small claims and supreme court for ruining a sweater which they then tried to keep and not return to me. I had to seek injunctive relief from the Supreme Court to get the sweater returned to me. Most recently, they charged my credit card without authorization for $327. AVOID this place like the Plague!!! more

WAY too expensive 4/14/2011

Look, as all of the other reviews say, they do good work and they are nice people. But I'm sorry - NO amount of niceness or effective dry cleaning can justify $30 PER SHIRT. That is the base price here, with no extra care needed at all. I can purchase a NEW shirt for less than what it costs to get one cleaned here!!! more

Excellent!!!!!! Steve the specialist is awesome! 1/15/2011

Meurice at University Place cleaned my 3.1 Phillip Lim red leather jacket while other places turned it down because they were afraid the red dye was going to come off. Meurice has done tons of leather cleaning and cleaning a bright red lamb leather jacket with plenty of buttons and zippers was no biggie to them. My only concern are the pins that were used to hold back the silk lining. They were thick and left holes, next time I'm going to suggest blue masking tape. I was satisfied with the cleaning, so I brought back my Alexander Wang silk top that has been dry cleaned twice at local dry clean places. The stain on the silk remained but Meurice cleaned it right off! I was so happy with Meurice, I came back with my Alexander Suede jacket. This place is pricey but if you paid $$$ for your clothes then you better take care of it. Plus, Steve, the cleaning specialist is one cool dude! I'll roll in the dirt for him just so I can give him something to clean! more

An excellent and special service 5/21/2010

I usually don't write reviews about businesses because I don't feel they need the free publicity, but when there's a service that is so exceptional, so professional, and that truly helps people with their problems and satisfies their needs, then I feel that by describing it to others , I'm doing a positive and helpful public service. I brought in my stained and beat up $2500 Zegna coat and asked them to clean and restore it. It had leather trim and leather buttons, and I was afraid of letting the neighborhood dry cleaners ruin it. When Meurice delivered it to me a week later, it looked brand new. What I saw exceeded my expectations. I also brought in my favorite Ralph Lauren white shirt that was stained all over with oil. I went to about five so called ""high end cleaners"" near me in TriBeCa, and they all said the same thing: ""it's impossible to clean these kinds oil stains that have already been oxidized into fabric, even with industrial bleach; it's best to just throw it out."" I almost gave up until a friend told me about Meurice Garment Care in the Village. They completely eliminated all the stains and discoloration without damaging the fabric. Steven, the gentleman who helped me, explained everything to me, told me exactly how they treated and cared for the fabrics, and was extremely nice and informative. I felt I had superb professional service by a great staff. Ultimately, Meurice Garment Care is not just a business, it's a special service, whose goal is to make their customers happy and satisfied. They did what nobody else could by fixing my white shirt, and they restored and cleaned my coat with the kind of care and attention that I've rarely encountered from any business or service. The bottom line about Meurice is that they understand how much you care and love your own garments, and they do their very best to solve your problems and satisfy your needs. Pros: Superior service and professionalism Cons: A little pricey, but worth it more

AMAZING UPHOLSTRY CLEANING 4/15/2010

I take all my good clothes to Meurice for dry cleaning - the manager there, Marc, is extremely kind and helpful and they do a FANTASTIC job. Naturally, when I heard these guys also clean upholstry, I called them. Pros: quick, excellent service, timely more

Wedding dress cleaning 3/28/2010

I bought my wedding dress during Filene's Running of the Brides way too early. My wedding is about 15 months away. It was stuffed in the big Filene's bag and in my closet. I did a lot of research on wedding dress preservation and came across Meurices. Boy am I glad I did. I called them and spoke with Marc. Marc is super nice. I asked for his advice and he told me the best thing to do is preserve it since my wedding is so far away and it will prevent the dress from turning color. I decided to go for it so I went in and he examined my dress and walked them through the whole process. I knew I left my dress in great hands. Marc and his staff knew what they were talking about and they did not rush me in making a decision. He told me that first they will clean the dress and fix all the loose thread ends and fix a tiny hole in the back, then they will preserve it. The dress will be wrapped in acid free paper and cloth and in a box. He said that if I wanted I can take the dress out of the box when ever I like with these special gloves they provide. It totally beats putting it in a vacuum sealed box and never ever getting a chance to see it until I am ready to take it out. I asked if I can view it before it gets preserved in the box and he was very accommodating. My dress was ready to be viewed a week before the date Marc told me and it was super nice. I did not realize the dress was dirty until he showed it to me. The beading on the dress sparkled more than it did before and the dress was oh so nice. I love it more than ever now. I did not want to take my dress off. I left the dress again in the the staff at Meurice and I know when I go pick it up it will be perfectly preserved for my wedding day. Pros: great customer service. super friendly staff. Cons: none! more

The best garment care in the city 3/1/2010

I regretfully took my vintage white blazer to a cheap neighborhood cleaner to be dry cleaned. When I picked it up I noticed black fabric dye from the inside of the jacket bled into the front. Of course, there was nothing this idiot could do to fix his error and blamed it on his machine. I immediately took my blazer to Meurice because I had pants hemmed there before and they came out excellent. Steven was so professional and friendly, and even assured me that my jacket was in good hands. A week and a half later, I got a call that my jacket work was finished and it looked spotless. It was the truth and worth every single penny. This is the best garment care and service in the city. Pros: Experienced, speedy, friendly, professional Cons: Expensive but worthwhile more

Great Customer Service 2/6/2010

i had to have a vintage veil cleaned and restored and Marc at Meurice was more than helpful to me. He carefully outlined all of my options and the costs associated with those options. Once we decided on a strategy, he was in constant communication with me as they were doing their work. He clearly went out of his way to make sure I was 100% happy with the results, and I have quite honestly never had better customer service. Pros: customer service, attention to detail more

Top Shelf 11/28/2009

Easily the best cleaners I've been to in NYC. I had some nasty grease spots and went to a different cleaner on UES (highly recommended in the ""Best of Edition"" in local mag) and they not only didn't get it cleaned, but caused the black to bleed on the beige - silk shirt, Nat Nast. The owner there wasn't very sympathetic. more

Only place in town 7/24/2009

I searched all of NYC to find a cleaner that could rematch/whiten a white suit that had turned a sort of yellowish, offwhite over the years. To make matters worse, the jacket had once been cleaned without the pants, so the jacket and pants were slightly different colors. In addition to cleaners, I even contacted a vintage clothing repair specialist. No where I looked was able to assist. Meurice has a ""whitening process"" that is unparalleled with every other place I checked. They rematched the jacket and pants, cleaned and whitened the suit, and brought my white suit back from the dead. Excellent job! Pros: Highest quality cleaner in NYC Cons: High prices (justified) more

Perfect Repair 7/7/2009

I brought a very valuable designer dress to Meurice to repair a zipper that was completely destroyed. The production team that created the dress originally told me the were unable to repair it and that the dress was permanently ruined. The tailor at Meurice fixed the zipper while I waited and charged me almost nothing. They did an amazing job! Pros: Quick & Affordable Service more

In one word...""HEAVEN!"" 6/29/2009

There are often times where I receive good service and think to myself ""I need to write a review to let people know how lovely ______ was."" The times I have actually done that are far and few between...probably because the experience fades after time. The intention is there, but i never quite get to it. Well it has been 2 months (due to travel).... and there was NO CHANCE I was about to miss the opportunity to rave about Meurice Garment Care!!! While in NYC with my boss for a press junket for her latest film, we needed to prep her dress for her premiere. I had heard through her stylist that this was a wonderful place to take her dress to...in fact...this was the ONLY place I should take her dress to because the stylist trusted them that much. I headed over to the Meruice's on 31 University Place (Between E 8th and E 9th st) and the folks at Meurice's lived up to their reputation. I had the opportunity to work with Richard and he was spectacular in every sense of the word. Customer service like I have never experienced before. For all he knew, I was just dropping off my own dress. He knew about he fabric, the stitching...it was as if the dress had taken on a personality of it's own. I have never before experience such lovely customer service. Everyone at the store was wonderful, friendly and helpful! It was a treat to walk into a place where EVERYONE LOVES WHAT THEY DO and customer service is not just a mission statement hanging on a wall...but a way of life. We had to put a RUSH on the dress cleaning in order to get it back in my hands before we jumped on a plane to the premiere....but that did not effect the outcome of the cleaning. It was stunning! They handled the delicate details with great care and it was absolutely gorgeous! They packed it carefully so that it could withstand the flight to Paris. Yes...the stylist trusted them so much she would rather the dress be cleaned there than in Paris! That should say it all! I apologize for such a lengthy write up....but I was blown away by the service and product of Meurice's cleaners. To sum them up in the words of Mary Poppins...they are ""Practically perfect in EVERY way!"" Pros: Attention to detail, exceptional service, they care!!! Cons: No con is possible...no wait....I wish they had one in LA! more

Excellent job!! 6/24/2009

Really good for special care garments 6/22/2009

I bought my college daughter an expensive dress from Saks for a soroity spring formal. The dress was silk and was spattered wtih sprite or 7-up. The dress had a decorative beads on it. My local cleaners tried to hand clean it without success. I called Milly (dress manufacturer) who recommended Meurice. I live in NJ and didn't want to have to drive to the city just for this. Meruice's process for shipping was very easy. They kept in frequent contact with me: when they received the dress, how much it would cost, the liklihood they would be able to get it clean, etc. ,etc. They took great care in shipping it back to me - and the dress came out beautiful! I would recommend using them for any specialty items. Pros: Can ship items more

they saved my wedding day 6/15/2009

i recently bought an angel sanchez wedding gown at a sample sale. it was beautiful but looked like a sample. not only did they clean it to perfect condition, it appeared brand-new and ready for a runway show. meurice is the king! Pros: extremely professional and competent Cons: a little pricey but worth it more

AMAZING handbag cleaning!!! 6/2/2009

I came in with my mom's tan lambskin Chanel handbag last week thinking it was going to be nearly impossible to clean the denim stains and blue dye from a shopping bag off of this bag. I spoke to Marc about my handbag and he assured me he would clean it and it would look brand new. He told me they could remove the stains and match the color of a dye exactly to my bag and fix any stains that could not be removed. I figured he would proceed to tell me that it would cost me the price of a brand new handbag to get it back to its perfect condition. I was completely wrong...not only did he put a rush on the bag for me at NO additional charge so I could have in back in my mothers hands the next week when I went home for a visit but he also gave me the best price out of all the cleaners I visited for estimates. When I picked up the bag, I was in literal shock. The bag looked brand NEW and not only were the stains gone but he also fixed some stitching that was coming undone on the handle. I would never go anywhere else to get my handbags repaired and cleaned. I am planning on bringing all of my handbags to Meurice eventually...it is well worth it, they end up looking brand new at a minimal cost!! I am recommending this place to any and all of my friends... Pros: great customer service, perfect cleaning, resonable prices!! more
