Best

We have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world and Mark's is right up there in rank. The service, the food and the atmosphere never disappoint. Pros: null Cons:...

Worst

First of all reservations were difficult to get. The food presentation was good, the wine list OK. Hey I have had better in CA and TX. The chairs were not comfortable. A sligh...

Stuffy and for old people 7/18/2002

This place is good and has an exceptional wine list. However, it is stuffy and for old people. Not really a happy hopping place. It's quiet and bright. I hate bright restaurants. more

Still not worth it! 7/11/2002

If you don't mind waiting 30+ minutes for your table (with a reservation) and having to make that reservation 2 weeks in advance, go to Mark's. If you'd rather be seated at the time you made the reservation for and can call 2-3 days in advance to make the reservation without getting some snooty attitude telling you they're booked, go just about anywhere else in Houston. They're not the only game in town and hopefully they'll figure that out soon. Their food is great, but so are ALOT of other restaurants in the city, and they're popping up all over the place. Pros: food, ambiance Cons: service, wait, attitude more

TOP 10 DINING EXPERIENCE 7/9/2002

This rates in our top 10 dining experiences in all of the cities we've visited. Definitely one of the tops in Houston. We went for lunch in order to make it a bit more affordable. Our drinks were spectacular, the appetizer of assorted tomatoes was unbelievable and our meals (fish special and pecan chicken) were exceedingly flavorful. We had a fresh cherry dessert that made great use of this in season fruit. The service matched the wonderful quality of the food. The decor and atmoshpere were intimate without being dark. We will definitely be back to sample the other tempting menu items. Pros: Amazing Specials, Quality of food, Service more

THE WORST 7/1/2002

I cannot belive the high marks that Mark's gets!!! The people who work here are completely incompetent!! The staff that works the phones should take some reading lessons- that way when they take a reservation and then confirm it, when the party walks in there would be no reason to say they have no idea where the table is and that they use several different books to take reservations! ABSOLUTE NONSENCE!!! more

Five Star Experience 6/1/2002

Getting ready to enjoy food at a five star level. Ranks among the best in the USA. more

Great Food, Great Service, Great Wine! 5/16/2002

I ate at this restaurant last night and what an experience! The waiter was extremely knowlegdgable and made excellent recommendations on both the food and wine. If you have a special occasion coming up, go here. I am coming back to Houston just to go to this restaurant. Pros: Food, Wine list, Service more

  • **Welcome to Mark's American Cuisine!**

Voted Houston's Most Romantic Restaurant, Mark's American Cuisine is located in a 1920s renovated church. The golden ceilings, hand painted deco walls, and the candlelit tables provide guests with an intimate escape from the outside world. Mark's boasts three meeting rooms: two private - The Cloisters, which seats 32 to 40 people and The Alcove, a tasting room for 5 to 8 people, and a semi-private room, The Loft, which seats 18 to 24 people.

Dining at Mark's American Cuisine is a true epicurean adventure. Chef Mark Cox prepares not just one, but four unique menus for his patrons. Houstonians and visitors will find food unlike that in any other restaurant.

Mark's wine list, recognized by The Wine Spectator, offers each customer the opportunity to pair the perfect meal with enhancing wines. Under the attentive eye of Mark's Wine Director, Saree Mulhern, vineyards and vintages are selected by taste and value instead of by "brand name."

Under the direction of Mark's General Manager, David Dworsky, let your server treat you to the utmost in restaurant service. "Eating" at Mark's is truly a memorable dining experience.
