Best

We have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world and Mark's is right up there in rank. The service, the food and the atmosphere never disappoint. Pros: null Cons:...

Worst

First of all reservations were difficult to get. The food presentation was good, the wine list OK. Hey I have had better in CA and TX. The chairs were not comfortable. A sligh...

Wonderful! 10/19/2003

I cannot believe it took me so long to finally try out this much talked about restaurant. Reservations are hard to get and we were only able to get a rather late 9:30pm slot. We arruved early and were seated immediately. The place was lovely and was filled to capacity even at the late hour. The service was the best I've ever had and the food was superb. I feel the prices they charge are justified and my husband and I will visit again soon. more

Special Occasions 8/17/2003

We have eaten in many fine restaurants, but Mark's blows all of them out of the water. From the moment you enter the renovated church, you feel embraced by the ambience and grace of the staff. The menu has something for all tastes. Special attention is paid to quality of service. For our wedding anniversary, complimentary champagne and a special dessert e with "Happy Anniversary" inscribed on the plate with chocolate topped off our fabulous meal. more

It was OK 5/15/2003

First of all reservations were difficult to get. The food presentation was good, the wine list OK. Hey I have had better in CA and TX. The chairs were not comfortable. A slight hype on the food although the service was good. What can I say? I prefer Capital Grill, Pappas Steakhouse and Cafe Annie....Sorry. Just didn't do it for me. more

A bit overhyped 2/20/2003

I was expecting some really good food here as this place is rated the top place in Zagats.. it was really quite a disapointment. The food was quite average and the place was crowded and very loud. The service was very good though. My waiter was very knowledgeable. Pros: good service Cons: overpriced, average food, crowded & loud more

Wonderful wonderful 2/16/2003

This is without question my favorite restaurant I have ever been to...in the world. I have traveled extensively all over the country and Europe, and I must say this is my favorite food anywhere. It's terribly romantic, the service is amazing and the food is absolutely heavenly. It is a bit on the ritch side, but SO worth it. The wine list is fabulous and the desserts are unbelieveable. Try the coffee toffee tart. It's worth every calorie. I reccomend the Escarole when they have it. It's delicious. I have started going there for every special occasion that arises. It's that good. Pros: Good parking, Romantic, Amzing food Cons: noisy more

For management 2/14/2003

I've eaten almost at every nice/trendy restaurant in Houston, and was for the most part disappointed in the food. At the recommendation of the waiter, I had ordered the lamb special (w/ lamb sausage, lamb chops, lamb something...), and was utterly disappointed. The sausage tasted bland/rubbery/and very small. When the bill came around, I looked for my special at $40 and was amazed. I expected a high bill from a nice restaurant and don't mind paying for good food, but for the taste and consitency of the food, it shouldn't be anywhere near that range. Again, I don't mind paying for GOOD food. You may want to hire Monica Geller as your head chef. Maybe it was just a bad experience, but one that will not bring me back around nonetheless. Good luck. more

Great Restaurant, but....... 1/28/2003

This is a great restaurant. Mark Cox has done an outstanding job of keeping this place feel fresh, new, and clean. The food is great, the decor is inviting, the service is good. BUT.... the prices are outrageous!!! We recently rented one of the private areas and paid a whopping $75./person for a four course meal!!! The food was great, but we had to question the value for the price. The tuna is not sushi grade -- it is a color added imitation for sushi grade tuna. Pros: Clean, Good Food, Wine List Cons: Value, Portion Size, Price more

A true culinary 'mark' 1/28/2003

My many experiences at Mark's have been nothing less than exquisite. The food not only lives up to the excellence of atmosphere and service, but in my mind exceeds any other Houston restaraunt. As a trained chef myself, I would consider Mark's to be an all around lovely experience. more

Incredible!!! 1/21/2003

The best all around date restaurant in Houston. The food, ambience, service, wine list aand every thing in between helps to make this one of Houston top restaurants. Pros: Everything Cons: Pricey more

Good Food 1/13/2003

This is a very romantic place for couples. My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and it was very nice. The service is excellent and the dessert is great. If you like grill seafood and red meat then this is the place for you. Pros: Parking, Good food Cons: Wine List, Expensive more

Exquisite 12/28/2002

We are so impressed with this restaurant. Not only was the food exquisite, the staff was very friendly and professional. This was our first visit and it most certainly won't be the last. We had a wonderful experience and we will most definitely recommend this restaurant to others. Pros: Fabulous Food, Excellent service, Courtesy Valet Parkin Cons: None more

Fantastic! 12/17/2002

We have eaten here many times. The food is uncomparable...awesome! We take friends and clients alike and they have never failed to come away from Mark's singing their praises! more

dine with class 11/22/2002

The food, dessert, and wine were all tasty. Our 2 servers were very knowledgable and friendly, and the food came out in a timely manner. Although the restaurant decor is meant to create a romantic atmosphere, i think it is a bit too busy and noisy to be romantic. overall, i'd say this is a really good restaurant. more

Simply the Best 11/18/2002

Without a doubt, Mark's is the best restaurant in Houston these days. From the warm feel of its converted church setting to the continuously delicious food to the well maintained wine list, Mark's is top notch. Chef Cox shows off what he learned as head chef at Tony's and plates creative food. For such an upscale place, the prices are very reasonable. The service is superb: attentive without being either obtrusive or fawning. more

Overrated! 11/15/2002

Beautiful restaurant but the food is very overrated. We were quite disappointed! more

One of Houston's best 11/3/2002

Mark's is what it is all about. Great service, relaxed atmosphere and terrific, innovative food. Mark's lets it's food do all of the talking. This is my absolute favorite restaurant. Pros: Outstanding food, Solid Service Cons: Getting very pricey, Too many tables more

catchy 10/22/2002

this is what a world class restaurant should be-- great food, classy setting, great service more

1st time visit 10/21/2002

This was our 1st visit and it was on our anniversary. The food and wine were great however the price was a little steep. The food and service alone make it definitely worth the visit. Pros: Good Parking, Knowledgeable waiters, Great wine cellar Cons: Expensive, Not very romantic more

sorry...no inventive title 10/20/2002

mark's is a beautiful restaurant. the food was great and i loved the atmosphere, but i do think it was a little too pricey for the quality of the food. it's a good place to go for a romantic date, but i would really rather go to a nicer part of town. more

OK, if you don't look at the price 10/14/2002

Okay. I was expecting a very nice restaurant, wine list and great service. I got that but was very disppointed in the quality of the food, for the price. Bossa or Ibiza are cheaper and much better, for example. We were seated right under an air conditioning vent, and were promptly re-seated on request (much thanks...). Overall, nice place, but very average on the VALUE front. Pros: ambiance, service, wine list Cons: cold, value, food more

  • **Welcome to Mark's American Cuisine!**

Voted Houston's Most Romantic Restaurant, Mark's American Cuisine is located in a 1920s renovated church. The golden ceilings, hand painted deco walls, and the candlelit tables provide guests with an intimate escape from the outside world. Mark's boasts three meeting rooms: two private - The Cloisters, which seats 32 to 40 people and The Alcove, a tasting room for 5 to 8 people, and a semi-private room, The Loft, which seats 18 to 24 people.

Dining at Mark's American Cuisine is a true epicurean adventure. Chef Mark Cox prepares not just one, but four unique menus for his patrons. Houstonians and visitors will find food unlike that in any other restaurant.

Mark's wine list, recognized by The Wine Spectator, offers each customer the opportunity to pair the perfect meal with enhancing wines. Under the attentive eye of Mark's Wine Director, Saree Mulhern, vineyards and vintages are selected by taste and value instead of by "brand name."

Under the direction of Mark's General Manager, David Dworsky, let your server treat you to the utmost in restaurant service. "Eating" at Mark's is truly a memorable dining experience.
