Best

We have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world and Mark's is right up there in rank. The service, the food and the atmosphere never disappoint. Pros: null Cons:...

Worst

First of all reservations were difficult to get. The food presentation was good, the wine list OK. Hey I have had better in CA and TX. The chairs were not comfortable. A sligh...

Best in Class 10/10/2002

Mark's is Houston's premier dining spot. It is a place where young and old gather to enjoy tastes, that can't be found in any other resturant in Houston. Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

Excellento! 9/28/2002

Delicious!!!! Best restaurant in Houston. Service was good, but I think our waiter may have been new on the job b/c he wasn't real familiar with the menu. Food was impeccable! We'll definitely come back! more

Everything Rare and The Last One...? 9/21/2002

Mark's has incredible food and great service! A lot of heart and creativity were put into their dishes. When we pulled into the small parking lot, my wife and I thought we were at an exotic car dealership. Once inside, it was very noisy and very busy. It got louder and louder with each finished glass of alcohol. It is a very crowded, dimly lit atmosphere. If you are claustrophobic, don't go to Mark's. This is definitely not a romantic place to take a date. This is more of a place old doctors congregate after a hard days work on the golf course. The waiters knew many patrons by name. On a funny note, everything the waiter tried to sell us was rare and the last one left in the kitchen. I'm sure the people next to us got the same pitch. I highly recommend marks! Pros: amazing food, great wine list, great service Cons: very crowded, very noisy, very old crowd more

best restaurant in town 9/21/2002

I have been to Marks several times. Every time I was content with the food (dessert is also excellent, actually is a value-price) and service. It is pricey, true. But for special occasions, it is a good place. It could be a bit too noisy to me, though. Pros: excellent food, dessert, atmosphere Cons: price, a bit noisy more

Awesome!! 9/20/2002

We have always had a wonderful experience at Mark's! One of the top, if not THE top, restaurant in Houston. From the salads, to the main courses, to the desserts, you will fall in love with the food! Great place to really enjoy good food, atmosphere and service. We highly recommend!! Pros: The food is an art! Cons: none more

On The Marky-Mark 9/17/2002

Mark's definitely lived up to its reputation...the food, from appetizer to dessert, was about the best I've had in Houston in a long time. Contrary to some comments I'd heard or read, the service couldn't have been better...our waiter was helpful and enthusiastic; we followed his recommendation on a couple of entrees, and weren't disappointed. Pros: Excellent food, Presentation, Ambience Cons: A bit noisy more

Not worth it 9/17/2002

We were celebrating a birthday and we could have done better. Our guests ordered the special of the day at $35/plate & the fish tasted very fishy & they were unable to eat it. To compensate the waiter offered free desserts ($5 each). The birthday guest ordered the cake for dessert, it came out with candles but it was the wrong dessert & needed to be sent back. We eat out frequently & there are better places to go for the cost / service quality. Pros: loacation Cons: service quality, price for value rec'd, reservations a hassle more

romantic evening 9/8/2002

Romantic. Food and service superior to other local eateries. Good wine list. Good ambience. more

memorable 9/4/2002

It has been a few months since i was there, but each time i eat there i wonder why i go anywhwere else when looking for a fine dining experience. Pros: good experience Cons: difficult to get in more

A Big Disappointment! 9/2/2002

Found Mark's while searching for a quiet, romantic restaurant. Everything I read made it sound perfect. The setting was nice, and we were seated promptly upstairs with a reservation. Drinks were good, salad was satisfactory, though the server seemed rather uninterested in actually serving us. The problem came with the entree. We ordered beef tenderloin and backstrap of lamb, neither of which were cooked as we ordered, and neither of which were really all that special. The lamb tasted limp and flavorless. Don't get me wrong, the food was decent, but at a place like Mark's paying those prices, I expect to be overwhelmed. Garlic mashed potatoes were quite bland as well. I'm glad we tried it, but I would not recommend nor return to Mark's. Pros: quiet upstairs, good cocktails, valet was funny Cons: waaaaaay overpriced, server uninterested more

Just go to Mark's 8/22/2002

My wife and my favorite restaurant, with nothing even closely comparing. To simply call the food fantastic is insufficient. It is a whole new level of spectacular. I have never been disappointed with the meals, the service, the ambience...it is simply the best. But! It is pricey, and I would recommend couples only. more

Bliss!! 8/21/2002

If I die and go the heaven...I hope it feels like Mark's American Cuisine. This is an extraordinary restaurant. The restaurant is actually an old church converted into a plush, fascinating harbor for divine dining. The service is the finest in town. You will be assigned a primary server, but most likely, more than a dozen staff will touch your table before the night is done. The wait staff is extremely knowledgable. For your own edification I challenge any patron to grill their waiter on any element of the menu....cheese origin, specific herb, etc....you will be impressed. The wine list is thoughtful. It contains a wonderful list of domestic botique reds and delightful bordeauxs. The menu is creative and the food combinations are sublime. This is easily one of the three best restaurants in Houston. Enjoy. Pros: Creative food pairing, Impeccable service, Wonderful atmosphere more

An excellent experience 8/20/2002

This is a wonderful restaurant. We continue to have impeccable service and food every time we go. more

Excellent food, not the best value 8/19/2002

We went to this restaurant on a very busy Saturday night. We were seated promtly and the service was very good. The atmosphere is wonderful, and its a pleasure to to dine here. The menu has many different selections that can accomodate most people. They have an excellent wine list. We felt the best part of dinner were there desserts. By far some of the best desserts we have had. Pros: excellent wine list, excellent desserts Cons: noisy, make reservations!, not a great value more

On the "MARK" 8/8/2002

On the "MARK" for ambience, food, wine & service Pros: Great Foood, Good Wine Selection, Excellent Service Cons: Noisy, Tables bit too close more

Special occasions 7/29/2002

Mark's is a great place for special occasions. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is great, but it is a little expensive. I am not saying that you dont get what you pay for, because you most certainly do, but it is for special nights... Pros: Great Food Cons: Expensive more

Delightfully fresh, Obscenely rich 7/25/2002

Mark's virtually guarantees an outstanding meal. The dishes combine gourmet fish or meat with subtle sauces (often reductions) and a panoply of delightfully fresh vegetables. The wine list is superb, and the sommeliers are gracious when they guide you toward the finest selections for your meal. The desserts range from light and fruity to obscenely rich. Be prepared to spend more than $40 a person. Pros: Menu, Wine list, Service Cons: Expensive more

Cathedral Dining 7/23/2002

The atmosphere is beautiful and the food is exquisite. Mark's is a great place to come eat, even if it's just for dessert. Pros: romantic, delectable Cons: expensive, hard to find more

Not wild about Marks. 7/19/2002

Although not an unpleasant dining experience, I hope that this is not the best Houston has to offer (as I have been lead to believe). Initially the service was poor (20 minutes after being seated we finally got some water and bread, the wine to much longer to arrive), but did improve slightly. The menu contains some excellent dishes (venison and fois gras appetizer was delicious), but in general the menu was not particularly interesting. But maybe that's just the definition of "new american cuisine." Mark's is good, but to be honest, it ain't THAT good. I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion simply because I don't think you can bank on it being a great experience. Pros: Cute Cons: Poor service, Crowded more

  • **Welcome to Mark's American Cuisine!**

Voted Houston's Most Romantic Restaurant, Mark's American Cuisine is located in a 1920s renovated church. The golden ceilings, hand painted deco walls, and the candlelit tables provide guests with an intimate escape from the outside world. Mark's boasts three meeting rooms: two private - The Cloisters, which seats 32 to 40 people and The Alcove, a tasting room for 5 to 8 people, and a semi-private room, The Loft, which seats 18 to 24 people.

Dining at Mark's American Cuisine is a true epicurean adventure. Chef Mark Cox prepares not just one, but four unique menus for his patrons. Houstonians and visitors will find food unlike that in any other restaurant.

Mark's wine list, recognized by The Wine Spectator, offers each customer the opportunity to pair the perfect meal with enhancing wines. Under the attentive eye of Mark's Wine Director, Saree Mulhern, vineyards and vintages are selected by taste and value instead of by "brand name."

Under the direction of Mark's General Manager, David Dworsky, let your server treat you to the utmost in restaurant service. "Eating" at Mark's is truly a memorable dining experience.
