Best

We have dined at some of the best restaurants in the world and Mark's is right up there in rank. The service, the food and the atmosphere never disappoint. Pros: null Cons:...

Worst

First of all reservations were difficult to get. The food presentation was good, the wine list OK. Hey I have had better in CA and TX. The chairs were not comfortable. A sligh...

Yums the Word! 2/13/2008

I celebrated my birthday here with my husband. And I can honestly say this was the best restaurant I have ever been. We have reservations and seating was prompt. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Everything was excellent. Definitely will go again. We had the chef special (pork) and the beef medallions... delicious! Pros: Food, service, ambience more

Did you miss the shrine? 1/21/2008

Multiple personality dining, could never figure out what the kitchen was going for. Proportions meant for the horse I rode into town on. The entire wall of "accolades" is as offensive as graffiti. All very forgettable. No go backee Tex. more

Perfection 1/13/2008

Everything about my experience at Mark's was perfect. Service, food, ambiance, decor, wine list, entree choices, desserts, food presentation, food preparation, salads, portion size, soups - all of it. You cannot get anything bad at this restaurant no matter how hard you try. Go here and prepare to be amazed at superior restaurant business in action. You can always count on Mark's for a night of elegance and exceptional cuisine. I highly recommend the lamb loin, lobster bisque, and tiramisu. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Deserved Reputation 12/30/2007

I first dined at Mark's for a business dinner and was suitably impressed with the design, decor and quality of food and service. So much so that I brought my wife here at the first chance I had. It was an extremely romantic dinner adn one of the best we've had in Houston. Althoguh we weren't seated in the mezzanine area, which I had requested some time in advance, the overall experience was great. more

Not up to Reviews 10/16/2007

I took my wife to Mark's for lunch. Beautiful place but that is where it ended. The food was average and the service was way overdone. Two sips out of my water or tea and splash it was back. Waiters were friendly and helpful but the service was swarming. Average food and over service. Not sure why to go back, better food and service elsewhere at these prices. Loved the building. Pros: Beautiful Building, great wine list Cons: Average food, not up to par with a good chef more

Christmas Party in Alcove Dining Room 9/25/2007

Just had our Christmas Party for 7 in the upstairs dining room and loved every bit of every course. All attending loved the food, wine and dessert - thank you Mark's! Pros: food, atmosphere, service more

Amazing atmosphere and amazing food!! 9/14/2007

My husband and I went to Mark's for our anniversary dinner-it was my first time there, his second. When you walk in, you are just amazed at how beautiful it is-it's an old church, very elegant, and dimly lit-very romantic!! We were seated in the choir loft upstairs, which was wonderful because we could overlook the whole restaurant. The service was excellent-attentive, but not overbearing-do plan some time for dinner, because they don't rush you through your meal-the waiters sort of sit back and are non intrusive. The food was wonderful-I had the corn chowder (yum!!), the Scottish smoked salmon (melt in your mouth!!) and the crispy soft-shell crab. It was all delicious!! It is definately my favorite "special occasion" place in Houston. Amazingly romantic, wonderful food, excellent service-I can't wait to go back!! Pros: The restuarant is gorgoues, they have va;et-so don't worry about the small parking lot! Cons: It is expensive-but worth it for a special occasion! more

Fabulous Food and Ambiance 8/30/2007

My husband and I went to Mark for his birthday. First, I must say that it is very distinctive and delightful entering this restaurant due to the building architecture. To make the dinning experience over the top, the food is fabulous and the service excellent. If you want a great place to take ?out of town? guests or a way to express to someone how great they are by treating them to a beautiful meal, this is the place to go! Pros: Food, Service, Location Cons: Parking - but they have valet more

Fantastic 8/25/2007

So after living in NYC for 4 years, I have ventured out to the American hinterland with some trepidation about my future dining experiences. However Mark's ranks as one of the best dining experinces in the States. more

great food but way too expensive! 7/21/2007

mark's is a nice place,t he owner a fab person. however this place is not recomended for the common man/woman. ther service wonderful the food great. however if you are the average houstonian, you will have to save up for a year to be able to dine here one night with spouse and 2 friends. they do have a fantastic wine list. Pros: great service, wine list food Cons: too Expensive for first date-go for aniversaries, birthday dinners for turning 30 40 50 more

Romantic to the Nth 7/10/2007

The first time I went to this place it was by accident. My ex guy (he's still a friend just not my boyfriend anymore) and I were driving around trying to find a place to eat. He had just flown into IAH and was starved. I didn't know where to go and as we drove by Marks - I said, "how about here?". I'm so glad we did. The seasonal menu, always fresh and yummy- I love that you'll always find something new. Nothing worse than having a menu that is years old and hasn't changed (boring!). The mashed potatoes were perfect, the asparagus cooked to perfection and the meat dishes I've had- if you order it medium rare, you get it medium rare. Whenever I'm celebrating an occassion/success, my darling hubby brings me there as a treat! I've been here about 3 times so far and each time has been perfection. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Pros: So close to my home Cons: I can't afford it all the time. more

My new Favorite Restaurant 6/20/2007

This place is amazing. It's an old church. The hostess held our table for over an hour and helped us find the place. The drinks were amazing. It was romantic and dark and sophisticated. The food was excellent. I loved the lamb and the potatoes. The waiters are very knowledgeable. Also, they have free valet parking- so don?t try to park elsewhere. Pros: service, food, location, atmosphere Cons: small tables more

Outrageous prices 4/17/2007

I had not been to Mark's in some time, and was really looking forward to it. We were placed at probably the most undesirable table in the house -- full view of the kitchen, and all waiters passing by our table to pick up orders. I felt that the prices were extremely outrageous, and we were charged for a martini that we never had. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. Pros: The food was good Cons: Extremely overpriced more

One of the Best 3/25/2007

It's about time to see that we still have great restaurants to dine out in Houston!!!!! Pros: Ambience, Taste, Service Cons: Parking " Valet only" more

VERY ROMANTIC!! 3/12/2007

Very romantic, even with the bit of noise. Excellent food from appetizer all the way to dessert. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful atmosphere. Perfect for special occasions. Pros: everything Cons: 1 location more

Romantic 2/20/2007

Mark's is one of the best restaurants in Houston! The food is delicious, the service is wonderful, and the wine menu is amazing. Pros: everything Cons: none more

Pricy! but Good! 2/9/2007

Their service is spectacular and the food is awesome! They have the best soft shell crab around. The only thing about this restaurant is there reservation system it's not very good. Oh! the parking is really cramped there, so they make you valet. Pros: food Cons: parking is limited; no reservations more

  • **Welcome to Mark's American Cuisine!**

Voted Houston's Most Romantic Restaurant, Mark's American Cuisine is located in a 1920s renovated church. The golden ceilings, hand painted deco walls, and the candlelit tables provide guests with an intimate escape from the outside world. Mark's boasts three meeting rooms: two private - The Cloisters, which seats 32 to 40 people and The Alcove, a tasting room for 5 to 8 people, and a semi-private room, The Loft, which seats 18 to 24 people.

Dining at Mark's American Cuisine is a true epicurean adventure. Chef Mark Cox prepares not just one, but four unique menus for his patrons. Houstonians and visitors will find food unlike that in any other restaurant.

Mark's wine list, recognized by The Wine Spectator, offers each customer the opportunity to pair the perfect meal with enhancing wines. Under the attentive eye of Mark's Wine Director, Saree Mulhern, vineyards and vintages are selected by taste and value instead of by "brand name."

Under the direction of Mark's General Manager, David Dworsky, let your server treat you to the utmost in restaurant service. "Eating" at Mark's is truly a memorable dining experience.
