We have been there a few times, always like the decor and atmosphere and decent customer service. This time we actually paid attention to the food and it was disappointing: burge...

We are going back..! 5/30/2007

Great eatery, Great view, Great food! Overall an extremely great dining experience. The lobster appetizer is a must. Ketchup has great cocktails with a fun and lively atmosphere. I had the seabass and was delicious. The mac n cheese is also fantastic. They have a bar overlooking the sunset strip. Can't wait to go back. Pros: Food, View, Cocktails, Service, Location more

Uh, could you please pass the ketchup? 5/19/2007

On a visit to the bar at Ketchup for a quick bite, I tried the Kobe beef sliders, which turned out to be a generously portioned appetizer of four small burgers (too much for one person). Halfway through the second one, I found myself thinking more and more that the sliders tasted pretty bland. It occurred to me that what might help was if I had some ketchup. Uh, am I supposed to have to ask the server for ketchup? Pros: people watching, attractive staff Cons: service, food more

One word- Awful. 5/15/2007

Okay I GET IT. The place is called KETCHUP- well if the blazing red lights and images of heinz bottles all over the walls were not enough to let you know what this place is about....the splats of ""KETCHUP"" on the waiter uniforms were a dead give away. - okay so the decor was over the top- This place belongs on the Universal City walk. We were rushed to sit down and order, we had everything we ordered ten dishes for 6 of us thrown at us all at once ...and had the main host with his walkie talkie insult us under his breath because we complained about the cold mac and cheese that smells like old fish. This place is gross. I cant even talk about it. The experience was below par at best. Pros: the mini burgers were decent Cons: bad decor, obnoxious lighting and unprofessional hosts and hostesses more

Great Food, Great Service 5/9/2007

Just visited Ketchup for the first time this past weekend with my boyfriend and had a great time. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who promptly showed us to out seats. As soon as we sat down someone brought us some sort of Pretzels with dipping sauses. Soon after or server came over, introduced himself as Davis and told us about the drink menu. I had the Summer Loving and my boyfriend had some martini made with Patron. Our drinks came quickly and Davis began to offer some suggestions of what he likes and thought that we would like to start out with. We went with his suggestions and ordered the lobster wraps and mini tacos as appetizers and the Scallops and Ribs as our entrees. Our appetizers arrived and Davis came back over to check on us and make sure that everything was good, which it was. The appetizers were delicious and the portions were perfect. Soon after we got our entrees. My boyfriend ate his ribs so fast that I had barely started on my scallops. His ribs came with Mac and cheese which I only got a bite of before he finished those off as well. My scallops were cooked to perfection and the mash potatoes were delicious. I usually never finish all of my food but for these I had to. Our server came back to clear our table and brought us some dessert menus. I was so full, but he convinced us we should try the Ice cream sandwich. My boyfriend happily ate most of the dessert and Davis came back and brought us our check. I go out to eat often in LA and hands downs I had one of the most enjoyable experiences dining at Ketchup. Our waiter alone made us want to come back. He made us laugh and we truly felt like he cared about what we wanted. There was no sense of that LA attitude at all. The food was great and although some items are a bit pricey we had no problem paying the bill because we had an enjoyable time out. I definitely recommend this place to anybody and hope to make a return visit soon. This place should last a long time. Pros: Service, Portions, Ambience Cons: Parking, Price more

need a little more time... 4/25/2007

Overall, not the best value in town but when you know who?s behind the scene, you expect to pay for your meal?2 valets and 2 hostesses on a slow night. Staff is there at the reception. What comes to you first when getting upstairs to the main dining-room is the red lighting and the music?little too loud but that is a trendy place tool?Kind of design I have to say. Simple menu and limited but complete wine list. Large pour on the wine by the glass surprisingly. Homemade bread I would say with mustard and I find out later by asking, sundried tomatoes butter? The waiter may have forget to course our meal because it kind of came one behind the other. We did not had time and get remove the first dish that the second was there? The ?Kobe? little burger are pretty good (if you ask for ketchup, you will get the home made sauces selection)? The tuna tartare missed seasoning and maybe in a too big chunks, macaroni and cheese was a very small portion for $12?Dessert was ok?Brownie dried up when warming and the silverware comes after when you ask. It is a place where you can just have also a dish on the counter of the lounge area since the same menu is offer. Different look and brighter?Average experience? One time dinner? Pros: New trendy spot? Cons: Loud music, waiter knowleges and attention on the table more

Very comforting 4/23/2007

I went to Ketchup not quite sure what to expect, but I left (very) full and smiling. Very hip decor and food that'll fill you for days is not a combo I expected. And the view, well, if you can sit and look over Sunset at night while eating, it's always a good thing. As appetizers, we split the mini chili-cheese Kobe dogs (which were out of this world) and the grilled cheese and tomato soup, which was a few steps above in both elegance and taste in comparison to every other time I've had it. The grilled cheese was very cheesy, but not greasy. And the soup...I ate it all after we'd finished dipping our sandwich in it. For entrees we had a crusted chicken (I honestly don't remember the menu name for this dish, Shake 'n Bake, I think?) and a salmon dish. The chicken had a good crust and sauce, while the salmon was lite (like we wanted it to be). We also split some fries with ketchup during our entrees. This was last week, and I think I'm still full. Pros: Big portions, good food, cool place more

Very cute, lovely lounge but outrageously expensive 4/21/2007

It's a very cool looking spot. Refreshing as everyone is wonderful and nice, believe it or not, Ketchup is proving that a restaurant can be trendy AND friendly in Los Angeles. Atmosphere is to party, a great spot to go before going clubbing on the strip. The restaurant looks like a very upscale dinner as far as the decor goes. The only down side is the outrageously expensive price. I took my love one there and we shared an appetizer, an entree, got couple of drinks and no dessert, total for the night $120 before tip...Wow next time, for that price we'll go to Patina. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: overpriced more

red lights make everyone romantic. 4/20/2007

hip fun warm yummy and recommended. no doubt this place will be a success. great service, comforting food, 100% hip atmosphere, and great for dates or groups. Pros: ketchup, red lighting, hot wait-staff more

Not so great addition to the Dolce Group 4/12/2007

My friend and I visited Ketchup on a Thursday night and were excited to experience a new member of the Dolce Group of restaurants. The space is on the second floor off Sunset and you ride up an elevator to a red-lit, white walled room bustling with people. We were sat and immediately could not hear a single word from one another for the remainder of the evening. The red-light was a nice effect to their overall theme, but it makes it VERY difficult to identify particular characteristics about your food, such as, is my meat cooked properly? Thankfully, my beer-can chicken and her short ribs fit the bill, but the sides were a bit boring and the ""white truffle"" mac-n-cheese was a poor attempt of glamorizing a side dish which we expected to be ""down home"" cooking. There were a ton of wait staff standing around doing nothing (even though it was pretty busy) and we were visited by one of the owners at our table, and he was too busy scouting the room to listen to us and agreed that he DOES NOT like the white truffle mac-n-cheese....hm. We did not stay for dessert after our waiter, who was a doll in the beginning, began to rush and grabbed my friend?s drink with a few sips in it and was not very nice in accommodating her after her complaint. Oh well, we tried. Pros: Large Portions Cons: Noisy, Bland Food, OK Service more

GREAT VIBE, MARGINAL FOOD! 4/11/2007

Went to Ketchup and thought the ambience was very cool along with a very friendly staff. The food was o-kay but definitely not worth the price. $100 for hot dogs, fries and a couple of drinks does not sit well with me. The crowd got a lot cooler around 8:00 pm. I would go for drinks but I would eat dinner somewhere else. more

EXCELLENT FOOD, AMBIANCE, SERVICE!!! 4/11/2007

I've been to Ketchup twice, and thoroughly enjoyed it both times! (Random side note: Tara Reid was there both times, along w/ a handfull of other celebs). The decor is awesome - American diner w/ a chic twist. It really is a fun, upbeat, vibrant atmosphere. The food is also delicious - try the mini kobe beef hot dogs - they are indescribably yummy - and the trio of fries (spicy shoe string, sweet potatoe, and regular - all good. the ribs literally fall off the bone, they are delish. the brownie banana dessert had the best brownie i've ever eaten. basically all of the food we had was really tasty. the wait staff is really attractive and friendly. can't wait to go back! Pros: decor, food, music, drinks, staff Cons: i ended up eating way too much b/c food was so good! more

This is my new spot! 4/10/2007

WOW! What a place! The ""Barking Dogs"" where ridiculous! So good they should be illegal! Mini Kobe hot dogs? WHat the hell? The seen is hot, fire red with a feel good atmosphere. Celebs everywhere. Hard to get into already. I had to make a reservation a couple days in advance. The lounge has a great view and the martinis are made with childhood favorites like kool-aid, sunny D and yoo hoo. Another Dolce Group Home RUN! Pros: Food is great. Cons: Hard to get in. more

Pass the Ketchup 4/9/2007

I was very pleased, I thought the drinks were great and the music was awesome, not to mention all the eye candy eating there. Try the Ribs and the sliders they are homeruns. The Bar has a great view of Sunset Strip as well. Pros: Good Drinks / Clientele Cons: I can't go everynight more

great look! 4/9/2007

This place was pretty impressive. The food was amazingly yummy!! The pretzle bread with different flavored mustard sauces were great! We ordered the sweet potato fries as an appitizer and they were delicious. I had the shake n bake chicken dinner with lobster mashed potatoes- very impressive! They put a plum sauce over the chicken that was very tasty. My date ordered a smoked salmon dish and was very impressed by the food as well. The staff was very friendly and the vibe of this place was pretty cool too. I loved the red lighting, the dim red lightig was just right, the whole look of this restraunt was pretty impressive. I would definately recommend this place to others. Pros: the sweet potatoe fries and all the sauces! Cons: no where to park, the drinks werent to good either. more

great ambiance, yummy traditional american food, great service 4/9/2007

awesome restaurant!!! great experience...started out just enjoying the ambiance. the restaurant is lit by big round red lights. the furniture is all white with some red and ketchup bottles and our table was garnished with a real tomatoe in a clear box! whatever. the restaurant was great to look at and be in but the food is what we will be back for. we started out with fries and the 5 flavors of ketchup and a plate of small kobe burgers. delicous. we had a seafood dish and a sloppy joe. and a mac and cheese app. the food was great. that mac and cheese was unbelievable though. all i wanted was to order more but we were already full so we decided to try some dessert. somehow we managed to squeeze in dessert. vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two large chocolate chip cookies and some apple pie and vanilla ice cream. the food looked and tasted beautiful. we will definately be returning soon. i have one small complaint...my gym was within view. dammit. Pros: ambiance, service more

another Dolce Group winner 4/9/2007

Just when I thought they couldn't get any better....this gem comes along...although I thought I had my fill of ""american comfort food"" Ketchup opens....from the guys who brought you Geisha House (my favorite),Dolce,Bella, and Les Deux--Ketchup is a self-described modern american grill with a bit of kitsch...my wife and I dined with a few friends and ordered family style...Barking Dogs (amazing mini Kobe chili cheese dogs) and Crab Mac and Cheese with truffle oil were my favorites...fun cocktails such as a yoo-hoo martini and vodka kool aid were strong and delicious...we also loved the scallops with lobster mashed and 5 different Ketchups (duh) were fun to dip the 3some fries (spicy, regular, sweet potato)...I saved just enough room for the Ding Dong dessert with ice cream....the design is sick (think minimalist South Beach) and the service was impeccable yet fun...the most original twist was a drink cart a pretty young gal pushed around the restaurant and made mini samples of their signature martinis...kudos to these guys for putting another fun delicious restaurant on the LA scene....we'll be back Pros: amazing food and service Cons: a little loud more

Finally something fresh and fun 4/9/2007

I not a ""letter-writer"" but recently I have been so bored with dining in LA, so when I dined here I was so happy to have found something new. Also, the service was great - and not pretentious! Pros: great scene, fun food & not stuffy Cons: parking was $10, but worth it for the area. more

Trying Waaaay Too Hard 4/4/2007

I went to Ketchup last night for dinner and was truly under-impressed-- considering this place is being coined as a new Hollywood ""hot spot"". I get the lighting, and why they went that route, but the red glare is clearly harsh on the eyes. The decor is otherwise stark white and cafeteria-ish. And LOUD. I was extremely unhappy with the food (mac and cheese was pretty good but we split tuna tartar and it was bland and gummy, yuck. My date got fish for dinner and it was bland). The servers were super friendly, and at no fault them, food service was slow. Ketchup is trying way too hard to be themed and cool but it simply doesn't have legs in the long run. I have a strong feeling that the novetly will wear off quickly with this one. If you want a warm, relaxing dinner with ambience and a nice vibe, do NOT go here. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Lighting, sub-par food more

Friendly service and a mish-mosh menu meets darkroom-inspired red lighting 4/3/2007

The menu has a ""surf"" section containing chicken and the sleek, white space is burdened with harsh, red lighting. Step into the connected lounge (which is bathed in normal, tungsten-balanced light) to get some much needed relief. Wait service is friendly but management is very insecure and in denial about the atrociousness of the lighting. Pros: Attentive service Cons: Pain-inducing lighting and an unfocused menu more

looks like a White cafeteria. 4/2/2007

big let down on the food not very good, Kind of expensive for the drinks, staff was nice we went to the bungalow club on melrose to have a second dinner it was great. Cons: valet $10 more
