Great food and atmosphere spoiled by terrible customer service 8/16/2007

The food is outstanding. The beer selection is excellent. A bit crowded - but a fun environment. UNFORTUNATELY THEY NEED TO FIRE THE ENTIRE STAFF! The staff are rude, self-absorbed, arrogant and not terribly helpful. Bad service is an unfortunate hallmark of LA dining but this place is among the worst. Even excellent food isn't enough to excuse the "I'm too cool to be serving you" attitude. I am not writing this review to trash Father's Office. On the contrary, I want to love the place. I simply hope the owners or managers will require the staff to improve their service and attitude or leave. If the service were as good as the food I would give it 6 stars! I would also encourage people to visit Father's Office. If the service is bad leave a one penny tip. Sooner or later they will get the hint. Pros: Food, Beer Selection, Atmosphere Cons: Rude Service, Crowded more

Not what I was expecting 8/4/2007

I had heard so many rave reviews of this place that I couldn't wait to try it. Boy was I disappointed. First of all they only serve beer and wine. For some reason I thought they had a full bar. The menu selections were very limited. My friend told me to get the burger, which was pretty disappointing. They were fanatical about not changing anything on the burger. I just asked for no onions and they refused. There are plenty of other great places to spend your money. Go there instead. Pros: None that I can think of Cons: food was not worth it more

That IS a tasty burger 7/31/2007

We've lived in the area for a while, and had never been. Decided to go for our first time the other night. Contrary to what I had heard, the bartenders were very helpful. They helped make our experience better. In addition, the cramped accomodations force you to mix it up with people - which is great, reminded me of some old English bar in the UK. The burger was very good, as were the fries and the bartenders recommendation of beers. However, 2 burgers, 2 pints and a large fry cost $47 w/tip. Not to mention, the next morning I couldn't stop running to the bathroom. Yes, it is a great burger. Yes, they have great beers. Do it once for the sake of "experiencing something wonderful", but as to making it a regular stomping ground? Eh... Pros: Burger, Beers Cons: Price, Crowd, Potential for Montezuma's Revenge more

Let's be honest 7/22/2007

The first time I had the burger here I thought it was ok. The fries and my beer made it better. The second and third time I didn't enjoy it. Basically all the flavor of the burger comes from the caramelized onions. The patty is bland and bready and the bread itself is less than fresh. The onions are so sweet that the burger has lost its appeal to me. If I want sweet I will get a dessert or a candy bar. I prefer my burgers meatier and tastier. Also, the fact that I can't choose not to have cheese on it is absurd. Those not desiring cheese can't even pick it off the burger. Pros: Great Beer Cons: Hugely Overated Burger more

Don't try it alone 7/14/2007

Like your first acid trip, this place is best experienced with a Guru, ie, someone who knows the ropes in this 200 square foot box. Otherwise it could get very frustrating. I love turning friends on to this place. The must-haves are: the burger, the ribs, sweet potato fries and OF COURSE the beer (pliney the elder). I've tried other foods and specials and have never been disappointed. Very consistent. I do think their odd system of ordering and the wall-to-wall crowd may take some of the fun out of it for the uninitiated....you have my sympathy (while I stealthily grab a table)...... more

Definitely good, but very crowded with the yuppie white crowd and overhyped. 7/13/2007

Been waiting to come here due to all the buzz surrounding this place. I went there this past Wednesday with some coworkers for happy hour. By the time I got there about 6:30 the place was packed, with many people standing in the middle between the row of tables. Luckily my coworkers had gotten a table, but with a buncha guys, I was literally rubbing elbows with the anorexic Olsen twin wannabe at the next table. Interesting thing is that you go to the bar to order your drinks and food. They'll pour your drinks right there at the bar and will give you a number for the food so runners know which table to deliver the food. Interesting, but can get annoying if it's crowded and a whole mess of people are just hanging out and not ordering. Because it was crowded, it took on average of about 15-25 mins to get food. Had the burger that they're known for and the garlic fries. Both were quite excellent and would agree with the other reviewers that said they serve some of the best bar food in LA. Probably the only problem would be the fact that it gets really, really crowded, even on a week night, and people waiting for tables tend to get a little chippy. Beer plus having to wait a long time for a place to sit can lead to tempers flaring. Not sure what all the hype about the beer is, it's a bar that just serves a lot of different beers. What a concept...good beer nonetheless. Hitochino white Ale was pretty sweet and refreshing. Especially after 4 or 5. Pros: Wide and eclectic beer selection from around the world, great bar food! Cons: Very crowded with older women trying to pick up on younger guys. Holla more

Come hungry, leave happy. 7/5/2007

hands down the best burger i've had. if my next vists are as good as my first, i will make a blasphemous statement and say that i think it's better than a philly cheesesteak ( i am from philly). it is crowded for sure, but it is worth the wait. they have a great beer selection too! more

Good scene, but seating is an issue. 6/30/2007

I've been here a couple times just for drinks, but finally sat down for dinner last night. I had the beet salad...delicious! My husband had the burger and loved it as well. Everyone was really friendly, but it was kind of a bummer to have to share a tiny space at the end of the bar to eat our meal. Overall, though, a good experience.
