Best

5 of us had five different beers and each of us had the same burger. 5 for 5 on both so I give this place 20 stars. the beer selection is astounding, even for a beer nut like ...

Worst

It's not bad, but not what I'd expected. I went there because my girl friend chose the place and wanted to try it out, and to be honest, I wouldn't go on my own or invite someone ...

Burger and beer lives up to the hype 11/19/2007

So many people were talking about the burger here that I just had to try it. And now I can hardly stay away. At $12 bucks a pop and around $6-8 for a beer, this isn't a cheap meal, but if you're craving a good burger or are taking a friend out from out of town, this is a great place. It can get incredibly packed at night, and even after they let you in (and take your order, and bring your food), you're likely to find yourself standing in the middle of the crowd, table-less, juggling an eight dollar Chimay and a mini-shopping cart full of sweet potato fries. I've found that the best time to come is on the weekend for lunch. It's still nice and lively, but you can actually participate in conversation over the din and getting a table only requires a little bit of a wait. Last time I was there we split a burger and cart of the sweet potato fries (some of the best I've ever had with bleu cheese dipping sauce!) and each had a beer and we were stuffed by the end. The burger is not that big, but it's best enjoyed slowly, and the HUGE portion of fries will fill you up fast. I've also had the beet salad which was very nice, but I don't know if I could come here and not have the burger! I also love that they have my favorite beer (Hitachino White Nest Ale) as well as a good selection of other white ales here, a rarity in L.A. The barstaff are very helpful and will give samples of beers to inexperienced drinkers, too. Pros: Best Burger, Beer Selection, Sweet Potato Fries Cons: Pricey Burger, Crowded more

Gourmet burger heaven! 11/2/2007

I love Father's Office's burger. And you better love everything they put on it because there's no substitutions. It's a heart-unhealthy mix of specially ground beef (secret blend!), blue cheese, bacon and onions. Sooo good! The sweet potato fries are amazing as well, and come in a cute little shopping cart. There's always a crowd, so get there early. At least you don't have to be a table vulcher anymore. The downside is that you have to wait in line to get in, so you can't have one of their great beers or a glass of wine while you are waiting (wine list isn't bad, not a full bar). You order at the bar and they bring the food to you. Pros: great burger, good beer selection, sweet potato fries Cons: no substitutions, line outside, not a full bar more

Oh so overrated 10/31/2007

This is one of those pretentious places that people love because it makes them feel in the know. If you enjoy standing in line to get in, being squished between hipsters while you wait for your beer, watching people eat like vultures so you can swoop in and steal a table as soon as the seated guest sets their fork down, over priced foods that you are not allowed to alter (allergic to onions? toughen up!), and people breathing down your neck as you sit at tiny tables scarfing down your ridiculously sweet hamburger, then this is the place for you. Pros: lots of beer Cons: everything else more

Great Food, Great Beer - One of the Best Burgers in Los Angeles 10/25/2007

After reading other's reviews, I decided to give this place a try. It was well worth it. The standard (and only style, not modifiable, mind you) burger was better than I imagined it would be. Hands down, next to The Edison and Pete's Cafe and Bar downtown , this is one of the burger places in Los Angeles. Remember, they do not take American Express. The only con is the seating situation. On a crowded night, you may be standing for quiet a bit while waiting for a table to open up. So, wear comfortable shoes. Pros: Burger, Beer, Service Staff Cons: Parking on Montana Avenue more

Terrible service, terrible pours, overpriced beers 10/23/2007

I had heard good things about this place. I went the other night and was extremely disappointed. Neither of the bartenders could provide a decent pour (and let's face it, when your beer costs >$8 it would be nice to get more than 2/3 of a small glass) and the service was next to nonexistant. What service there was bordered on rude. The beer is extremely overpriced compared to other good bars in the general vicinity, and the food is mediocre. Take it from me, there are far better establishments in the area. I am still in disbelief at the prices that they get for lousy poured beers in already small glasses - do yourself a favor and shy away from this place, your pocketbook will thank you! Worth the Wait 10/9/2007

If there's a crowd, then there must be something worth waiting for. Definitely true for this place, so get there early if you want a seat. The burgers melt in your mouth, and the sweet potato fries more than lived up to the reputation I had been hearing about. Best to go with someone who's been there before and can show you the ropes. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Crowded more

Over Hyped and Over Rated 10/4/2007

I went here with a couple of friends from work after having heard it hyped up for months. My expectations were very high. I was told that we needed to rush and be first, so we don't have to wait in line. Not being a senior citizen on the early meal plan, we did not make it by 5pm, but rather 6pm.....there was of course a line...the last time I waited in line was a Vegas night club at 2am, so needless to say it felt rather silly. They are strict at the door, so they only let 2 out of 3 of us in the door as the space became available. Very annoying for a restaurant at 6pm. Once in, all seats were taken, so we immediately went into table hovering mode, as there really is no place to stand without being on top of somebody eating. (same idea as a crowded ski chalet at lunch hour). We had the burgers (no change options as stated by many) and the short ribs; the food is way hyped up...the burger was OK, the flavors did not necessarily meld since they combine blue cheese with carmelized onions...first couple of bites are good, but the tastes get overwhelming. The short ribs were also just OK..nothing you can't get at any other decent place in town. In short, very crowded, small, average food, but good beer...out of respect, I did not say anything at the time; I just kept shaking my head as to how good it was. However if you go, lower your expectations, and do not fall for the all the hype. Pros: Beer Cons: Food & Seating more

Best Burgers And Beer 9/28/2007

I went for the first time on a Thursday night - So crowded... there was a line to get in the door - but they were so friendly and when I made it the bar only had to wait for like a minute for a beer. The burgers are so good and you sit wherever there is space so you make some unexpected friends! Just a good chill hang out and the food and beer so worth it! Try it more

Great Burger but no rhyme or reason for the seating. 9/22/2007

Went back to father's Office after being out of town for 3 months and was disapointed. Arrived at 5:30 & when I finally found a seat at the bar I ordered a bear & a burger. I ordered the burger medium, it came out well & the bun was not fresh. The quaility has gone down in the past year. Pros: Burger & beer Cons: Seating, service more

I ordered the burger medium, it came out well & the bun was not fresh. The quaility has gone down in the past year. I aslo have a problem with the seating. You get the feeling that the owners/management have the feeling if you don't like it tough go somewhere else. While this may stroke their own egos it offends customers who eventually will get the word out and enough people will not come back. I understand it is a small place but you should have a list where people put their name on it and go in order to get a table. It is not hard to do and makes things orderly and you don't have people hovering around while you ar etrying to eat. Keep the bar first come first serve. It will be intersting to see how they operate when they open their Culver City outpost. I hope the managemengt looks at all the negative posts & does something about it.
