Best

5 of us had five different beers and each of us had the same burger. 5 for 5 on both so I give this place 20 stars. the beer selection is astounding, even for a beer nut like ...

Worst

It's not bad, but not what I'd expected. I went there because my girl friend chose the place and wanted to try it out, and to be honest, I wouldn't go on my own or invite someone ...

This place is the WORST, and OVERRATED. 12/11/2008

Now please stay the F away. And spread the word of how horrible it is. Worst burger ever, and longest lines, rudest staff, horrible beers on draft. You are pretty much a retard if you believe the hype on this spot. No ketchup people!?!? are you serious? how can any self-respecting burger bar not serve ketchup?!?! OMG! more

No Ketchup at a place known for burgers and fries? WTF??? Different is not always Better. 11/30/2008

Let's make this simple: 1) no ketchup, and nothing similar. Only sauce is garlic aoli. Wtf? It's a simple concept, order f*ing ketchup for your burger joint! 2) Bacon not optional: the bacon is mixed in the meat of the burger, so you can't get it w/o bacon. Basically any non-pork eaters, don't go. 3) Service is AWFUL. Don't even try to make one substitution or change. During my particular experience, we ordered 2 burgers and asked for one with regular fries and one with sweet potato fries. Waitress brought burgers with 2 regular fries, and an extra side of sweet potato fries. We said we didn't want extra side, it was misunderstanding. She said we should have known the burgers only come with regular fries. "Well it's our firsts time here, sorry, can you just take it back?" "No." In the end, we paid the extra b/c she was too bitchy and cheap to take it back, and manager supported her. They act like we owe them something. She also called us names under her breath. Not nice. Pros: Burger is tasty, it's true. Cons: Service, Service, Service. Oh, and did I mention they don't have ketchup? more

Amazing & different Burger 11/19/2008

Fathers Office has the best burger in Santa Monica! My friends also enjoy the large beer selection and I appreciate that they carry a few wines since I don't drink beer. Be patient when you go as it's a good crowd but always a crowd. You have to keep your eyes peeled and be quick to grab a table as the staff doesn't help seat you. It's worth the wait when you have the time and the shopping cart of the sweet potato fries is the way to go over the regular fries. Pros: Delicious Burgers & sweet potato fries Cons: It's always crowded and you have to fight for a table more

Really? 10/2/2008

40min wait in line, 30min wait to get a seat, 20min wait to get a beer and another 20mins to pay for the bill. What do you people see in this place? The food wasn't all that great as well. I don't see the appeal here... definitely not worth it. Pros: The selection of beer Cons: Everything but the selection of beer!! more

Just bar food but it is GREAT bar food 9/11/2008

Maybe the best burger I've had in my life. You can't make any substitutions but who cares, it's perfect the way it comes to you. They also have an impressive selection of beers with bartenders who actually know something about the beer. Bartender beer knowledge is something that is usually sadly lacking here in LA but Father's Office makes up for that. Pros: Burgers, Beer Cons: If you usually make substitutions to your order you are out of luck here more

best restaurant in l.a., the place we want to go everyday, favorite for out of towners, best specials in l.a. 8/28/2008

Father's Office rocks, it's always packed and has a great buzz but there is always room in the new spacious location, and the owner is a famous chef not just some bar guy, so his specials are the best in town, and no tax, what a deal. A must have is the soft shell crab, fried crispy and with a spicy thai red chili sauce and a perfectly simple corn relish, and don't miss the steak frites, now with au poivre sauce, it's even better than the burger you'll see on every table. Chicks love the sweet potato fries, but we go for the eel scandinavia style. And just get the specials, ask no questions. more

the owner is right--it's just bar food 7/31/2008

Sadly (really) never acquired a hardcore taste for alcohol--just a social drinker here--so my interest in My Father's Office was geared towards the food and I'm now guessing that the positive buzz about the burgers and fries is probably derived intoxicated taste buds. The famous burger is tiny, served on a prone to sogginess bun and only mildly enjoyable--it's a little tangy, too moist and not particularly filling. It's not unlike air plane/airport food--really nothing special--unless I imagine you're dining drunk. Likewise for those greasy sweet potato fries served in the SILLY shopping basket--with a mayonnaise type dipping sauce. And these are basically the food highlights. Then there are the pretentious food ordering restrictions--no condiments, cheese, rare, medium etc.----like the stuff is masterpieces who's perfection can't be tampered with. Apparently this controlling attitude extends to the bar----NO VODKA?? no variations on drink orders. Wow this Father is one mean daddy---maybe the father son thing here is why it's so popular with 20 somethings---who maybe still miss some parental restrictions--but appreciate that this dad leaves the liquor cabinet open for them more

Not What I Expected... 7/29/2008

I think I expected a much less uppity, more vintage feel from Father's Office than I ever got. While they do have a great selection of beers and a good burger and great sweet potato fries. They don't have great service, and by that I don't mean I was ignored or something. I understand it's a place you have to make yourself know, that it's thing and I get it. But there's a difference between that and just being rude which is what we got. I think this place relys too much on it's reputation, and while it's probably worth checking out. It's not all it's cracked up to be. more
