Best PT anywhere! 2/18/2008

Safety is of prime importance at CH, all the personal trainers are physical therapists, which has been of double benefit to me. They understand injuries, and as has happened to me, they can actually prescribe exercises that will allow your injury to heal, as well as identify ways that I am aggravating the injury ie. holding the steering wheel a certain way or sleeping in a certain way. However, the other aspect of understanding injuries is that they pay VERY VERY careful attention to position of body parts as you exercise: shrugging my shoulders when I don't even realize it, my elbows turned out just a few more degrees, arching my back , knees over toes, stance not wide enough, (well, you get the drift). This all goes to overall safety, as well as efficiency of the workout. I've been amazed to discover how these seemingly small changes and adjustments make a huge difference to the difficulty of the workout which insures safety as well as maximizes the benefit to me. I really feel the muscles in the areas I've worked out in, and feel really motivated to continue working out so that I will truly be fit.\r \r The staff here are friendly, they take the time to get to know you, because they are working one on one with each client. The gym is never packed because it is specifically for the clients of each personal trainer/physical therapist. The location is convenient right in the Pearl, and though I come from \r Sellwood its a quick drive. If you really want the help, they will work with you on diet (I've been resistant but I'll come around some day). All in all, this is time well spent with visible and not so visible results. As in all things, you must be proactive- work at it and you will see results! Share concerns or difficulties with exercises and you will also help ensure a safe workout! 5 Stars! more

No more guesswork thanks to Colin Hoobler 2/17/2008

For the last 10 years, neither my PC doctor, orthopedic doctor, or neurologist could help me with my low back pain. I had also tried acupuncture, naturopathic remedies, and even one of those dumb TV gadgets but NOTHING helped me. I went to CH in the winter of 2006 on the recommendation of a family friend, who talked about Mr. Hoobler like he walked on water. What I learned from the first consultation was that I was in for an experience that was going to change me forever. I learned where I was weak and where I was inflexible and how to use my muscles properly to protect my back. After a year of consistent therapy, I finally had my life back; I returned to work full time, worked out regularly, and started playing golf again. I now go to Mr. Hoobler now and then for workout updates and motivational support, which I will continue for the rest of my life. If you want results, go to CH! Pros: The best physical therapist in town! more

Walking the Dog 2/14/2008

When asked, what is your goal my reply was, I just want to be able to walk the dogs. Having had foot and knee surgery, and a weight of 225 lbs. my life centered around pain. Mr. C, as he is known around the house, evaluated the whole situation and got me started with physical therapy, resistance training and a nutrition program. The end results are that the dogs have a hard time keeping up with me now. In 8 months I lost 85 lbs, regained strength and balance, and about 95% of the pain is gone. Walking the dogs is just a small part of what I've gotten back. Being transformed at 60 years old is just plain fun. \r Thank you Colin,""Mr. C"". Pros: Always make you feel like you can do it no matter what injury you have. Cons: N/A more

Baby Fat, Back Pain! 2/14/2008

With a wonderful weight gain of 55 lb's and a beautiful 7 lb 2 oz. Baby boy to show for it, I realized I had a lot of work in front of me! The worst problem was my back pain! I was suffering to the point where caring for my new baby became almost unbearable. It hurt to pick him up, it hurt to hold him, it even hurt to drive! With a lot of help and encouragement from my family I started physical therapy with C.H. After two months of physical therapy nearly all of the pain was gone. With the help of Colin, he taught me about strength training and nutrition. After 8 months I was back to pre preg. weight in a very healthy way! After 1 1/2 years I still apply the same principles I learned at CH! So now I can run circles around my little one and do all of the sports and activities I love! Pros: Greatest Physical Therapy around! Cons: N/A more

I have my pre-baby body back! 2/13/2008

I was a personal trainer before starting my family. 6 years and three kids later, I was starting to lose myself both physically and mentally. I didn't recognize myself in the mirror. I was out of shape and 50 pounds overweight. When my youngest was 16 months old I made a conscious decision that ""I WANTED MY PRE-BABY BODY BACK"". During that time my parents were receiving physical therapy at C.H. for various injuries. I could not believe the results they were having with the resistance training. My folks realized the passion I had for personal training and how badly I wanted to get back into shape. They suprised me with 10 personal training sessions. After the first session I was HOOKED and continued on. Colin helped me lose 50 lbs. in 6 months. He taught me how to resistance train and eat properly for maxium results in both fat loss and perfomace in the gym. I am in better shape now at 36 then I was at 25! Colin does an amazing job of encouraging and pushing you to a point you don't realize you can achieve. He is very professional, kind and makes your workout/therapy sessions fun. The education and expereince the therapists have is simply the best. They are knowledgeable, patient, and great teachers. C.H. is the best investement of time and money I have made in myself. I have seen firsthand many postivie results for people through C.H.'s aproach with physicla therapy and personal training. I have my pre-baby body back and then some...thank you C.H., it has been life changing. Pros: Best time and money I have invested in myself. Cons: n/a more

CH has the gift to change lives!! 2/13/2008

By the time my doctor referred me to CH, I weighed 215 pounds, had terrible back pain, and arthritis in both knees. I'm only 47 years old, so having trouble getting through every day because of the pain was really depressing me. I worked closely with Colin Hoobler and Josh Kernen for about 7 months and ended up losing 72 pounds while COMPLETELY losing my back pain and knee pain!! I've learned how to eat right and work out to not hurt my back or my knees, and finally have a life that I'm proud of. What more can I say than that?? Pros: Passionate about what they do, professional Cons: can't think of any! more

I recovered from car accident thanks to C.H. 2/13/2008

My doctor sent me to C.H. after I had whiplash from a car accident where I was rear-ended by a truck going 40 mph. My right hand was numb and I had sharp pains in my neck for weeks and just needed to feel human again. The office staff was so nice and helped me feel at ease by telling me how great all the physical therapists are, and she was right on. After 3 months of intensive exercise, massage, and stretching techniques I felt brand new again. Josh was so nice and helped me learn how to protect my neck during every day activities. I highly recommend him and the other physical therapists at C.H. Pros: Great staff, incredible results more

Pain free thanks to CH PT 2/12/2008

After trying acupuncture, massage, and hundreds of other things to cure my neck pain from falling off a horse 7 years ago, I finally can function again thanks to CH PT. I was surprised not only at the skill of the therapists there but also that exercise was the main thing that helped my neck heal. I can now ride my horse again without pain and ski with my husband on the weekends, 2 things that I never thought I'd be able to do. Thank you CH PT! Pros: Friendly office staff, really smart physical therapists Cons: n/a more

Avoided back surgery with CH! 2/12/2008

I was scheduled to have back surgery in 2006 when a friend told me about CH in the Pearl district. I asked my doctor (not the surgeon) whether or not he thought physical therapy would be a good alternative to surgery and he said no way. I tried it anyway and can't believe how grateful I am that my friend insist that I go to CH. My back still hurts from time to time but not nearly as badly as it used to and I'm 20 pounds lighter thanks to Colin and his team of physical therapists. My doctor was surprised and called it bizarre that the physical therapy worked but exercise was the way to go, not surgery! I still do my exercises at the gym and see Colin every once in a while for tune-ups and always will. I just can't say enough about CH and how great they're service is! Pros: the best at what they do Cons: 35 minutes from my house more

Professional staff, skilled to the max 2/11/2008

I saw Colin for PT in the fall of 2007 and it was the best experience I've ever had pertaining to exercise guidance. He operates a professional business that will be around for a long time because everyone who works there really cares about what they do. I told my doctor about ch, but he already knew about them and said he refers there regularly. I can see why, as they are great at what they do. If you want to feel better and have fun in the process, look no further than ch. Pros: Professional and skilled more

Won't go anywhere but CH 2/10/2008

I've always been reluctant to write a positive review on any company because it takes alot to impress me. CH, in a word, has really impressed me! My chiropractor encouraged me to go to CH in 2006 when I was struck by a car riding my bicycle downtown. While the chiropractic adjustments were helpful, they didn't help relieve pain for longer than a few hours and so my chiropractor referred me to CH for exercise therapy. I didn't expect much, as I had been to physical therapy once before at Providence and it was a JOKE! CH was totally different, as they spent alot of 1 on 1 time with me and pushed me to exercise right to protect and heal my neck. I now see them for personal training a few times a year and will never stop. I learn new things every time I go and I tell everyone I know to go to CH because they are, quite simply, the best! Pros: Patient, professional, compassionate more

CH is the best team in town! 2/6/2008

Robbie has been amazing. I work out 5-6 days per week and tend to push it too hard at times. i ended up with a serious shoulder injury 18 months ago and bicep injury 90 days ago. \r \r both have been completely healed due to Robbie's focus, dedication, and expertise. \r \r i would strongly recommend CH for both physical therapy and personal training - they are great more

Great PT by professionals who practice what they preach 2/6/2008

When I go to CH for physical therapy for my back, I know I'm getting quality care because my doctor raves about them, I feel tons better by the time my appointment ends, and Colin (my PT) looks like he practices what he preaches. The last time I went to PT at a clinic in NE PDX, I was appalled at how overweight and out of shape all the PT's were. I really appreciate that all PT's at CH obviously care about themselves enough to be great role models for customers. This seems to be a rare trait in health care but not at CH. They are also really knoweldgeable about exercise and treat you like family. more

CH is a class act 2/2/2008

I was involved in a car accident 10 years ago. My neck hurt to do pretty much anything since then. My chiropractor really helped relieve the pain but my neck would start hurting shortly after the adjustments. I was walking downtown and saw people working out in CH and noticed the ""physical therapy"" sign outside so I stopped in to check it out. The girl working at the front desk was nice enough to get a physical trainer to talk to me about my injury and then I had a great discussion with Colin that changed the course of my life. I started physical therapy there the following week and it was difficult but I could tell it was what I needed to get my strength back. After 3 months working with CH I could finally get a full nights sleep and I'm working out again at my gym and I owe it all to CH! Pros: Got pain under control and learned how to work out safely more

BEST physical therapy and personal training in the city! 2/1/2008

Our family has had physical therapy and personal training at CH for over 3 years. The training has given us great habits. We workout at home so we can be ready for the workout there. Pros: The staff is so welcoming, supportive and friendly more

Our family relies on CH 1/31/2008

My doctor referred me to CH 2 years ago after knee surgery and I've never been more impressed by the care I received at CH. First of all, the secretaries are friendly and helpful when scheduling my appointments, which wasn't easy with my work schedule. I saw Josh for my first appointments and he was great. He was thoroughly professional and helped me learn to do my exercises safely so I didn't hurt myself. I also worked with Collin and he was great too. What impressed me most about CH was the amount of attention I got while I was there, which was night and day compared to other medical offices I had been to. They really wanted me to get better which is why my wife and brother now go to CH for their health issues and seem to love it as much as I do (although they always complain about having to work). I think anybody needing physical therapy would be pleased with the care at CH. Pros: Knowledgeable, friendly, attentive Cons: Took me 30 minutes to get there from work (not CH's fault) more

CH is this doctor's choice 1/30/2008

I've been an othopaedic surgeon in Portland for 15 years and have referred a myriad of patients to physical therapy with lukewarm feedback, I believe due in large part to the ""passive"" treatment philosopies used by many Portland PT clinics. About 2 years ago, a colleague at our clinic told me about CH given the positive feedback from her patients and how CH incorporates exercise into rehabilitation methods. I refer the majority of my ""difficult"" patients to CH and usually impressed with the progress made not just in pain reports but functional improvements as well. Colin is probably the best PT I've ever had the privilege to work with not just because he is skilled, but also due to the quality of PT's he surrounds himself with. Colin and his team are obviously dedicated to the well-being of their patients and this physician greatly appreciates it. I strongly recommend CH for rehabilitation needs across the orthopaedic spectrum. Pros: Reliable, skilled, professional Cons: n/a more

Can work again thanks to C.H.! 1/27/2008

I tried physical therapy twice before coming to C.H. and didn't get anywhere. My new doc told me about this place and how good he thought they are so I reluctantly gave it a try and thank heavens I did!! I hurt my back on the job in 2007 and haven't been able to work at all because of excruceating pain, but after 4 months working with the physical therapists at C.H I finally returned to work before Christmas. I wasn't sure it was the right move at first becuase they really made me work hard, but they kept encouraging me and encouraging me and I got stronger while my pain went WAY down. My doctor is happy, I'm happy, and my wife is happy so thank you C.H!! Pros: Nice people and the best at what they do more

Doctor recommended, mother approved! 1/22/2008

I was referred to this clinic by my doctor after my 3rd child in 2006 with excruciating back pain that wouldn't go away. I must admit, I was willing to try anything as I was miserable trying to take care of 3 children with a back that felt like a hot poker was sticking in it 24-7. At first, my back got a little worse (if it was possible) because I tried doing some of the exercises at home and I think I did them wrong. After about a month, I started to notice that my back hurt less and less and it was because Colin helped me get the exercises right. He was patient but pushed me like I needed and made me laugh at every appointment which I also needed because I also had post-partum depression at the time. After 4 months of intensive work, I felt like I was finally out of the woods but I didn't want to quit CH so I became a monthly personal training client. I still see Colin once in a while and I can't say enough about his caring and compassionate approach to physical training as it helped me get my life back. You are the best CH!! Pros: Helped me avoid surgery and awful medications, smart, funny Cons: Can be busy at times and difficult to schedule more
