CH is the best HANDS DOWN 1/22/2008

NOBODY else could help my knee pain, not my doctor, not my personal trainer at 24 hour fitness. Going to CH was key for me to learn how to work out to not only make my knee pain go away but to learn WHY I should do things the way I should. I can play basketball again, play golf with my wife and among other things not worry about taking pain medication anyomore. I highly recommend CH to anyone wanting the most professional and caring staff in the business. Pros: Professional and knows their stuff Cons: Out of the way for me (but worth it!!) more

Less pain, more strength with CH 1/21/2008

My chiropracter referred me to CH last year after I hurt my shoulder at work and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself!! First, the office secretary was professional (but overloaded with calls) when trying to find an appointment for me because my personal schedule was difficult to work around. The first appointmnet set the tone for the rest of my time there as I was treated great by everyone. After almost a year of horrible shoulder and neck pain, I finally have my life back AND my waist shrunk 3 inches because Colin helped me with my diet!! My only problem with CH was getting accurate directions to the clinic as far as parking is concerned, but that was NOTHING compared to the service I got. I love CH!!! Pros: Best PT's in the world, nice people Cons: A little hard to find more

Definitely worth the time! 1/20/2008

I had been to 2 other pyhsical therapy clinics before going to CH. My doc told me that I should try it 1 last time at CH because they're approach is very different from the other clinics. My shoulder had gotten so bad that it hurt just to take a drink of water so I wasn't very optimistic about going through physical therapy again. After the 1st day I knew it was totally diffrent than anything I had before because they made me sweat! The physical therapists I worked with (Collin and Josh) were incredible in how much they knew about exercise and how to use that knowledge to help me get better. My shoulder pain is almost gone now and I don't need to have surgery thanks to Ch. They are without a doubt the best around. Pros: Very smart, patient, Collin makes me laugh Cons: Should have gone there sooner. Wasted a lot of time with other physical therapists more

Can ski again thanks to CH 1/17/2008

I have been battling knee problems for several years. It got to the point where i could not ski, play basketball, or even sit for a while without having it hurt ALOT. I had tried stretching, yoga, and other stuff to help it but nothing worked. My doctor sent me CH in October and Andre helped me get back to beiing able to ski again which is amazing considering I thought I had tried everything before. I would recommedn CH to anyone wanting to learn to work out the RIGHT way to help you get back to where you want to be. Pros: Great equipment, know what they are doing, nice office staff Cons: Had to drive 45 minutes to see them more

If you are willing to work at it, CH is it 1/14/2008

I've been a golfer for 20 years and have always had back pain. My doctor has always suggested the usual massage and advil, but then I met Colin on the golf course last summer and found out about his clinics that don't do the ""usual"" stuff. Colin's a great golfer, but he's even better at physical therapy! It took a while but I finally learned how to lift weights and exercise safely and as a consequence have had tremendous success with my back pain. I also had the opportunity to work with Robi and he was great too. I told my doctor about c.h. and he refers his patients there who have back pain. I would recommend c.h. to anyone with back pain, but only if they are ready to work at it because that's what it takes to get better. Pros: Professional and courteous staff Cons: n/a more

Are you kidding me? 1/10/2008

I am a physical therapist and I was searching through City Search when I came upon these reviews. Does anyone else find it completely ridiculous and unbelievable that this place gets one nasty review then 13 uber positive ones in a matter of 8 days. I hope CH is paying his staff overtime/giving his ""clients"" free sessions for posting such overly padded and unrealistic reviews. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!\r more

Where you go when you know!!! 1/8/2008

My chiropractor referred me to CH 2 years ago when I was in miserable shape. My back hurt, my neck hurt, I had terrible posture, weighed 100# more than I wanted to, and hated life. When she referred me I asked 'why'? because I always thought physical therapy meant massage and other stuff that doesn't work. Was I wrong!! From the first appointment I had I knew I was in the right place, as my therapist took his time with me and listened to all my problems (both physical and mental) and educated me on how exercise would help fix my problems. The exercise was difficult to do but not to difficult, and soon I was going to my gym by myself to work out. Here I am 2 years later and with no pain, 60# lighter and a whole new outlook on life. It's 1 thing to market your business as being the best but A WHOLE OTHER MATTER TO ACTUALLY BE THE BEST. The professionalism at CH is the best anywhere and they can motivate you to do things you never thought you could because they know their stuff! I go to CH for personal training now and will continue to for as long as I can afford it. Thank you CH for changing my life!!! Pros: Caring, compassionate, professional, great role models as PT's Cons: NONE!! more

If you're time is valuable, go to CH 1/7/2008

Before going to CH 6 months ago, working out was the most boring thing in the world for me. I always knew it was something I needed to do to feel and look my best but it always took too long and gave too little back. CH taught me how to work out to meet my goals in less time than I ever thought was possible, and I've never felt rushed through a workout. I've met so many people at CH who tell me the same thing, so I know they definitely have a system that works. My wife now goes to CH and simply loves it, although she said it was difficult at first to get used to being pushed during workouts. We've both changed our diets drastically based on recommendations we've gotten from CH and as a result, I've lost 44 pounds and my wife has already dropped 10 (in only a month). This is the best I've felt in a long time and I owe it all to CH and their first class trainers. I love this place! Pros: Respectful of my time, very knowledgeable, passionate Cons: Parking 2 blocks away (but it's free) more

CH PT is the best! 1/7/2008

After 20 years of debiltating back pain, my doctor was at a loss for what to do with me. I had 2 back surgeries that made it worse (MUCH worse) and numerous bouts of PT that consisted of massage, stretching and other passive treatments that didn't do anything but waste time and money. I have a friend who regularly goes to CH for personal training and recommended them highly, so I told my doctor about them and he researched them on the web and with his MD colleagues. He suggested that I give CH a try and I am so glad I did, as I can now do many of the things I've always wanted to (especially kayak and ski). My back still hurts from time to time, but NOTHING like it used to. I go to CH once a week now for physical therapy and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. They really care about me and are meticulous about the way exercises are done to get the most out of my time. I recommend CH to all my friends and am proud to do so. They're the best I've ever seen! Pros: The most skilled in the business, compassionate, fun people Cons: N/A more

Professional, caring PTs make rehab fun 1/5/2008

When my doctor referred me to c.h. about a month ago, I did NOT want to go. I had been to PT for my knee before, and all they did was ultrasound, massage and prescribe stretches for my hamstrings. To say the least, I thought PT was a waste of time and money. My doctor urged me to try c.h., telling me that all his patients rave about them. Not only is my knee getting much better, but I'm so much stronger everywhere in my legs that I'm confident I'll be able to start skiing again before the end of the year. They really care about you at c.h. and it shows, as they always greet you by name and go out of their way to get you convenient appointment times. With how busy they are, it's no wonder their reputation precedes them as the best place for PT anywhere in Portland. My doctor loves c.h. because they treat his patients like family, but I love c.h. because they're passionate about giving the most updated rehab guidance available. I'm a busy attorney who doesn't have much time for exercise, so I really appreciate how c.h. gets me in and out so quickly. It's rare I'm willing to take time to write a review for someone, but c.h. deserves nothing but the best review I can think of. They're the best from the front office to the great PTs they hire. Thank you c.h.! Pros: Professional, sincere effort to provide sound advice, willing to accommodate my schedule Cons: Need more locations more

CH for president!!! 1/4/2008

My physician referred me to CH a year ago after a very painful neck surgery. I was scared to death to do anything let alone exercise with weights. After my first appointment with Colin Hoobler (the BEST physical therapist I've ever had) I knew I was going to be OK because he explained everything we would be doing and what I could expect as far as progress. I was amazed by Colin's expertise, but even more by his compassionate spirit and sincerity to want me to get better as quickly as possible. He called me every week for the first 3 weeks of therapy just to check on me and make sure I was OK. Nobody had ever done that before and it made me feel like I was really cared for. I referred my best friend and mother to CH last summer and they too were amazed at their progress and how strongly their physical therapists care that they get better. My physician was shocked at my improvement, as I made a full recovery in only 3 months. She told me that she would have NEVER expected such remarkable progress in such a short time. I still see Colin for personal training and I just love working out knowing that I'm doing it safely and in such little time. Forget Hillary and Obama... CH has my vote!!! Pros: Compassionate, smart, sincere, equipment is the best Cons: Colin should be in politics as well as physical therapy!!! more

Physical therapy at its best! 1/3/2008

My doctor recommended physical therapy at CH when I had already seen 3 different physical therapists for my painful shoulder. I thought she was crazy, but she assured me that ""this time would be different"". Was it ever!! Instead of passing me off to less qualified people to exercise like the other physical therapists did, I was constantly monitored by Colin Hoobler (a PT) to make sure I did my exercises correctly to protect my shoulder. Not only did my pain completely go away in 4 months, but I lost 17 pounds and have more muscle in my upper body than I have in years! I should mention that I'm a 54-year old woman who hadn't exercised in almost 30 years before going to CH because I lacked the confidence to lift weights without hurting myself. I now have a gym membership that I use every week with all the confidence I need. I'm planning on returning to CH for personal training so I can work my legs, I just know that's going to be just as fun! I recommend CH to friends, family, and all my doctors for their compassion, patience, professionalism and fun atmosphere. Thank you CH!!! more

C.H.P.T. Changed My Life 1/2/2008

As cliche as it may be, I can honestly say Colin Hoobler changed my life.\r When I first went to see Colin, I was skeptical. I had been to five other physical therapists in as many years and none of them could help relieve me of my debilitating lower back pain. To give you an idea, I could not walk correctly without experiencing great pain.\r Within a month of seeing Colin was I not only without pain I was becoming stronger. Colin's technique of strength training along side prolonged stretching is, in my opinion, the only way to go.\r I've been now seeing Colin for two years and I have gone from a Physical Therapy Client to a Physical Training Client.\r I have recommended Colin and his associates to many people all of whom, without exception, have come to improve their lives in many ways because of his care and expertise. Pros: Expertise, compassion, accessability, work ethic. Cons: n/a more

Where QAULITY supersedes quantity 1/2/2008

I've been training for 30 years and thought I knew it all. I used to take 90 minutes to finish my weight lifting at the gym because I just didn't know the science of what I was doing like they taught me at CHPT. Now I finish my weight lifting routine in only 35 minutes and I'm wiped out because my technique is good and I'm protecting my joints. Squats are harder to do now than before I came to CHPT, and I'm moving in a smaller range of movement to avoid hurting my kneecaps. Bench presses have gone way down in weight but my chest is bigger because my new technique makes my chest work so much harder rather than my shoulders. Josh and Colin are awesome physical trainers, but the workouts are very difficult to work through and worth every penny. I've seen hundreds of trainers in my day, but these guys take the cake because they are educated not just in school stuff but gym skills too. I tell all my gym buddies to stop messing around and get to CHPT to save time and their joints. Pros: Learn the right way to work out, save time Cons: Scheduling a little inconvenient at times, but not too bad more

Wonderful physical therapists, professional office staff 1/1/2008

Let me get right to the point: I despise exercise! Always have. Until I went to CH. I learned quickly that my neck pain my doctor referred me there for desperately needed to get stronger to feel better. The key was doing the exercises safely, which my physical therapist made sure I did. I just can't believe that I'm actually addicted to exercise now, after going to CH for only 4 months. I'm going to continue going there for personal training, as it's actually fun now! My doctor loves CH, I love CH, and I'm sure everyone else does, too. They're terrific. Pros: Professional, patient, great listeners Cons: I should have gone there sooner more

Not just PT, but a powerful learning experience I'll never forget 1/1/2008

My back pain was debilitating to the point where I could barely get out of bed. It even hurt to cough. My doctor told me that as a last ditch attempt before surgery, I should try going to CH as many of his patients had gone there and achieved success. I had already been to PT several times and was very skeptical, but he told me that CH is very different and that I should try it. So I did. They literally saved my life, as I learned how to exercise safely and in a way that protected my back from harm. I still have back pain from time to time, but nothing like it was and I avoided surgery (for now). The PT's at CH are first rate, especially Colin Hoobler (he's the owner) as he always listened to my complaining and pushed me just enough so I would get better but wouldn't get hurt. My mother now goes to CH and sees Andre at the Tanasbourne office and just loves it! She has much less leg pain now and has lost 20 pounds of fat! I'm so proud of her and to tell everyone I know to go to CH. They are simply the best! Pros: VERY knowledgeable, great office staff, make PT fun yet challenging Cons: They make you work! :) more

Thank heavens I found CH!!! 1/1/2008

My doctor referred me to CH after my car accident in October of 2007. I was in ALOT of pain and struggled just to get out of my car; I thought I would be screwed up for life. I had been to PT at another PT clinic in SW Portland and they just wasted my time with lame stretches, hot packs and ultrasound (I think that's what it was). At CH, the PT was TOTALLY different. Not only did the exercises push me out of my pain, but I also learned how to exercise safely for the rest of my life. My doctor was amazed at my progress and I owe it all CH! She says she refers most of his patients there and that she also goes there to see Colin for personal training ""because he's the best"". I'm certainly a believer now, too!!! Pros: Learn how to train safely and within your limits, VERY patient, professional Cons: No Saturday hours until 2008 more

Absolutely the best place for PT... anywhere!!! 1/1/2008

I had been told by my doctor that I needed to have a joint replacment for my knee. I REALLY didn't want to have surgery & asked if there was any other alternative, and he said he could try PT and recommended c.h. Physical Therapy because he had heard ""nothing but great things about them"". I am so glad I did!!! The office staff is great, but the physical therapists are even better!!! I ended up seeing 3 different physical therapists because my schedule was so crazy, but all 3 were top notch. Not only did I avoid surgery, but I lost 35# and learned how to eat and work out on my own! I'm continuing to go to c.h. for personal training because the service quality is so addicting. Thank you c.h.!!! Pros: Customer service, knowledge, attentiveness and caring attitudes Cons: Parking is 2 blocks away more

Horrible PT's and Scheduling.... 12/12/2007

I was referred there after a car accident by my doctor back in August of 07. Orginally, I was going to show up personally to the clinic to arrange my appointments but I decided to call instead. After a couple of attempts, I'd only gotten to a voicemail. I left a message with my name and contact information, but unfortunately no body gotten back to me. So I called back a couple of days later, and finally talked to a lady that does the scheduling. Her voice was not pleasant and she sounded like I had interrupted her of something. I finally gave her the claim number and adjuster's name along with other info. I wanted to be scheduled around noon, but was told no PT were available around that time. I even requested late afternoon and was told no. It was very frustrating that the clinic was so INFLEXIBLE. The worse is having Colin Hoobler as my PT!!! He is rude, arrogant, didn't listen to any of the concerns that I have for my condition (knee), and even made disgusting faces when I am actually sweating from doing the exercises. It's got to be the worst experience I've had with office staffs and physical therapist. I would never recommend this place to anyone or anybody simply looking for a good recovery or just get back in shape. Pros: right next to Bally's@ tanasbourne or 24hr fitness for the downtown location.. Cons: Horrible Customer Service, Scheduling, and WORST Physical Therapist. more
