What happened? 9/2/2006

Bruno's used to be one our favorite places in the Mission. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone majorly downhill since its renovation. We couldn't have been more disappointed. The only saving grace is that the jazz room appears to be intact. Gone are the fabulous plush booths and tasty menu - now it's wood paneling, troll dolls on the walls and a menu comprised largely of bar food. Worst is that the cocktails - and service - are both mediocre. With so many other wonderful options in the Mission, we won't return to Bruno's. Pros: Location Cons: Everything else more

Bruno's used to be one our favorite places in the Mission. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone majorly downhill since its renovation. We couldn't have been more disappointed. First of all, the service was pretty bad. It took forever to get our first cocktails, we had to keep asking for things like silverware, they never even asked us if we wanted a second drink, and the food was pretty forgettable- I would recommend the hamburger & fries, but otherwise not at all impressed. I wouldn't bother going back. Pros: great location Cons: poor service more

Bread for the Table, Please 4/10/2005

Going to Tapas seems to be the way restaurant owners line their pockets these days. Bruno's is no exception. When we asked for bread for the table, we were given the ""option"" to purchase their $6 cornbread ""small plate"" which consisted of three very small squares of bread. Could you spare a square?? In the end, our bill for 5 people ended up being $206. In San Francisco, this is a travesty. I wish Bruno's still had their old menu. The service is great, and the atmosphere is very cool. Why did they have to go the ""tapas route""????? Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: value more

Cool Jazz and Southern Snacks 1/26/2005

The decor is 70's, the food is Southern tapas, and the music is groovy. Their trademark drink is the Sidecar (try it out) which is deceptively smooth...so watch out! Pros: Food, Ambience, Music Cons: Action starts late more

My wife and I consider ourselves to be conniseurs (sp?) of fine food and wine. These are, after all, the comforts we feel we deserve having led a full life with careers in the real estate industry, and children on Wall Street. Last weekend we made our way down to the Mission to see for ourselves what Brunos' new menu was all about. We started at the bar where our competent and outgoing bartender whet our appetite with cucumber gimlets and spiced fries. When we sat down to eat, I couldn't believe the eager friendliness of our server. She was so attentive. The food wasd to die for. Try the Hangar steak, seriously. If you are ever in the mission, you can't skip a trip to Bruno's. We didn't stay for the music this time purposefully so we could go back another night. Sincerely. more

I went this last sat with a large group of friends and was hella surprised at everything. I started with the Cucumber gimlet which wouldn't be a drink that I'd watch football to(Go Pat's!!) but was excellent and tasted so fresh that I kept wondered if there was a garden in the kitchen(the waitress said there wasn't). Speaking of waitress my server was Natalie and she was the bomb diggity. She explained at length about her preferences with all the dishes and she was spot-on. Everyone loved the food but my personal fave was the lollipop chicken. Watch out Hooters!! was all I kept saying all nite and haven't actually stopped(much to my girlfriends dismay). The food was so good and the music was great, Jazz is most defintely not dead while Mitch Marcus is around. I'd suggest Bruno's to everyone this might be the best Bruno's yet!! Pros: inexpensive, priced right, not bad on the wallet more

The changes made to Bruno's were definately good. It is a great place to go with a large group of people and have drinks and some really deliciouse food before a show. My friends and I had such a great time and the service was great. It would also be a very romantic place for a date. Pros: great food, ambiance, fun!! more

We had reservations for 12 people and they seated us on time. Hostess and waitress were pleasant. Ordered just about everything on the menu. Catfish sticks, biscuit burgers, dumplings, fries and curry, hangar steak, mac-n-cheese and then some. Nothing really exceptional. A little pricier than expected for the small dishes - but not outrageous. Service was definitely attentive and the music afterward was nice. Would go again for drinks and music - but probably not for dinner. Pros: nice waitress, space, parking lot more

Brunos is a fun place with yummy biscuit burgers and pecan pie that you can share with friends. Their small plates are perfect for privat events in the lounge that has a huge fish tank and their green room is ideal for casual events. It also has live music everynight and diners can get a free pass for cork club and enjoy a night out in one place. more

HAPPY HOUR JAM 12/18/2004

check out the new live music and DJ's at happy hour with no cover . The bartenders are red hot! and there's a VIP room upstairs, with a DJ on thursdays (also free). they rent it out for private parties up there, too! Pros: fun, great food, great music more
