They solved our problem! 11/21/2010

One of my colleagues introduced me to Bristol County Vet about 3 years ago. I was unhappy that the vet I was using couldn't identify what was causing my dog -- Daisy -- to limp on and off. To make a long story short, Dr. Hurd at Bristol County recommended a combination of medication and physical exercises that I could do with Daisy on my own. It made a big difference and now Daisy is limp-free. I'm glad I changed vets and I will continue to trust Daisy's care to a vet hospital that helped me solve what seemed to be a tough problem. more

Always Warm and Caring 11/7/2010

My 10-year old cat, Tiger, has been a patient at BCVH now for over five years. Every time I bring him in, whether it is for a routine visit or for a specific health problem, I have been impressed with the quality of his care. The practice is super clean and every staff member is both professional and friendly, even the receptionists make a terrific impression...always warm and caring, even on the phone. And I never feel rushed when it is our turn to see the doctor. They ask lots of great questions and always explain everything they are doing for Tiger before it is done. BCVH is a top-notch veterinary hospital that I have recommended to several of my cat-loving friends! more

Complete animal care 11/5/2010

I have used Bristol County Veterinary Hospital for close to 30 years. I have always found Dr. Hurd and her staff to be caring and professional individuals. Our dogs, cats and (previously horses) have had both their routine care and major surgeries provided by BCVH. I have always been pleased by the quality of care my animals have received and I have never been asked to purchase services or products that were not needed. Dr. Hurd truly does care about her animal patients and often relates funny stories about her favorite animal friends. If you are seeking comprehensive and quality care for your animals, you should certainly use Bristol County Veterinary Hospital. more

great care and great facility 11/2/2010

I was shocked to read some of the posted reviews! I have used the services at BCVH for several years and have always been very happy with the results. They are caring folks, real animal lovers who are willing to listen to me and also explain possible diagnoses, treatments, procedures etc. Animal medicine is a difficult field because the patient can't tell you how they feel! If you have a problem go to the management and see if it can be resolved rather than just complaining to others about it! As for cost, I have found it to be comparable to other areas. You can't expect state of the art care to be cheap, even though we might wish it to be so.\r Paul H more

Caring and Top-Notch! 10/31/2010

We had taken our dog to our regular veterinarian, and later sought a second opinion from another local vet when he developed a problem with one of his rear legs. Both vets had told us that it was a simple muscular problem and prescribed basic anti-inflammatory and pain medicines. The problem did not seem to improve so we went to BCVH to see Dr. Hurd. She was very caring and took the time to explain the range of possible issues.\r Dr. Hurd ran some additional tests, never offered by the first two vets we saw, and we discovered that our dog had developed early stages of bone cancer. Fortunately, we were able to pursue aggressive treatment and he's doing much better today. I hate to think what might have happened if we had not gone to see Dr. Hurd.\r We won't go anywhere else now! more

The BEST Veterinarian ever!! 10/30/2010

My cat lived to 15 years through the expert and compassionate care provided by Dr. Amy and her staff. I found them all to be professional and caring during his last days. Without their guidance and assistance he would have died years earlier, as he was very ill. They were able to keep him comfortable to enjoy his last days. I miss him dearly but cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Amy and her staff. They are simply the best!! more

Heartless and OVERPRICED!!!!!!!!! 10/15/2010

I went to BCVH for many year and have spent thousands of dollars on getting my animals the best treatment possible. The cost would always bother me like paying $1000 to have my two dog's teeth cleaned but as a pet owner I felt like they deserved the best treatment possible. A few months ago I took my cat in because we believed he was hurt because he was being aggressive and we were correct. He had been in fight with another animal and had a large infection on his leg from a bite or scratch. We took him in right away and they did an exam and sent us home with anitobtics without lancing it saying he would lick it and the skin would open on it's own. They also also charged us extra because it was an emergency visit, which I believe was $45. Two days later we had to take him back and have him sedated and have drainage tubes placed because the infection was getting worse. Of course we were again charged for a visit because they didn't do something they should have done to begin with. $900 l more

The best! 4/19/2010

I've been going to this Vet for over 13 years. They are the best! The office is immaculate. Every staff has always been wonderful and caring. I live within walking distance of another Vet in town and prefer to drive across town to this Vet. I just can't imagine anyone else taking care of my sweet animals. more

Fantastic experience all around! 3/22/2010

I recently moved to East Providence from out of state. My two dogs have always gone to the same veterinary hospital so searching for a new hospital was a very stressful experience.\r \r After calling several hospitals in the area, I found the staff at Bristol County Veterinary Hospital to be very friendly and very knowledgeable. The front office staff was able to answer all my questions about their services. I had one medical question that they had to refer to the doctor. They called me back with an answer very promptly. \r \r I was so surprised that they offered a tour of the hospital before I actually made an appointment for my pets. I went in the next day and was very pleasantly surprised at how bright and clean the entire hospital was. And no doggie smell! I actually couldn?t even tell I was in an animal hospital. \r \r During the tour of the hospital area I was shown state of the art equipment and it was explained to me the meticulous protocols the hospital follows for surgical more

Bristol County Veterinary Hosp is great! 10/18/2009

I have to wonder about people who anonymously post negative reviews. What are you hiding from? Why don't you take your concerns to Dr. Hurd? Why don't you do something positive and productive? I have known Dr. Hurd for over 20 years, since before she started her practice in Seekonk. One time many years ago, I had a grievance which I discussed with Dr. Hurd. We had a very productive and helpful discussion with an agreeable solution reached. I have remained an even more loyal fan of her's since then, perhaps even because of her willingness to listen to me and understand my side of things. I find the negative postings to be irrational and likely untrue, because I know Dr. Hurd and her extremely high level of ethics and honesty. Sure, things go wrong sometimes; no one is perfect (are any of you perfect?) and medicine is far from a precise science, but I believe that all the staff at Bristol County do the best they can every day to try to keep all of us pet lovers, and our pets hap more

VERY, VERY EXPENSE 6/25/2009

I have been taking my Yorkie to Bristol County for 4 years. Every year they have managed to find some major problem with him. Last year I took him in to be checked because he appeared to be losing weight. Well, that started the whole testing procedure. I spent from $800-$1000 other than putting him on a prescription diet which I buy from them, I never really got a definitive answer. This year the major expense is major oral surgery. Keep in mind I only brought him in for his annual checkup and shots. They gave me an estimate of $1300 for an oral procedure that they felt was necessary. The very first time I brought my Yorkie to them in 2005 they did a oral procedure on him then and extracted teeth. This time extracting 8-10 teeth just seemed a little over the top for me .This visit cost me almost $400 but I also did buy heartgard ($32)for him. They also gave me an antibiotic to give to him a week before the oral procedure which I hadn't agreed to. I paid $33 for that. So all in all this more

Great Care 4/20/2009

My dog had a lump on his side that was removed. From the pre-op appointment, to the surgery, to post op, the staff kept me informed, and took great care of my dog. \r They called when surgery was over and let me know how he was doing. The front office staff was super friendly when I was there (someone was even in training and they were doing great!) \r The Dr's were friendly and efficient and the vet techs are super knowledgeable and were able to answer my questions at discharge. This is a great vet. \r I take my dog every 6 months for bloodwork and check ups. So I am familiar with the vet and tehy are familiar with my dog. I have to say, I've been fairly charged and have recieved itemized receipts and written estimates before every procedure. more

Dr. Amy Hurd set things right 4/13/2009

At first I really liked the BCVH because they managed to give my cat her yearly shots without any problems (she's very difficult to handle in stressful situations). A year ago I took my other cat there with an abscess on his face and was told that it was just a tooth abscess that will drain through the mouth on its own. I asked to have it drained since we were already there and was told again that it should take care of itself. I paid 160 dollars for that visit during which nothing was done because - it would take care of itself. Sure enough the next day the abscess ruptured and before I caught on with it my cat managed to leave a bloody trail throughout the entire house and I have white carpet in my bedroom that is now stained. I took him there again and this time the abscess was treated surgically. I requested to at least get the money back for the first visit and was told that they will get back to me. I did not ask to get reimbursed for the medication that they gave me (whi more

Great care, Great Docs, Awesome Staff 3/19/2009

I've been bringing my dogs to BCVH for several years. A couple have had some serious medical issues during this time. Each time we've gone, the docs have taken their time reviewed my list of symptoms, evaluated my dogs and spent the time looking them over and researching the issues at hand. \r Even routine care is done slowly and methodically. I don't feel like I'm being rushed out for the next appointment. \r They've never tried to sell me special products or services nor have they ever guilted me into paying for a procedure I could not afford at the time. Everything is upfront and honest. \r I recommend BCVH from check in to check out each staff member is helpful, caring, compassionate and professional.\r I almost have to question the validity of the other reviews. It seems like they've gone to a completely different practice. I was absolutely shocked by what I read below. I would hope those people could give a better explanation of what happened with them, other than saying "W more

Money First - Animal Care Second 5/20/2008

I brought my cocker spaniel into Bristol County Vet for skin problems. He was very itchy and inflamed. They went through the usual shampoo's, pregnizone, etc. When the problem didn't clear up they suggest food allergies and I paid top dollar for special food. But things got worse. He was loosing hair and would wake me up at night with his scratching and biting himself. The dog sleeps on the bed with me. I brought him in again and was seen by Dr. Barry. I commented on how I was feeling very itchy at night. She said nothing, just gave me a look like "am I treating you or the dog?" She suggested it was an allergy to dust mites or my cats clumping litter that is occasionally tracked onto the floor. They then proceeded to sell me over a $100 worth of dust mite treatment, and suggested special cat litter. Of course I bought all. I had been cleaning and vacuuming daily because of the hair loss. My poor dog was miserable and he looked horrible. This had been going on for almost 90 days. I star more

This is a VERY VERY VERY expensive place... 2/11/2008

....and while it is very nice to look at, and pleasant, etc., they really do try to get you for every nickle. We have taken our 2 dogs there for the last five years or so and I am finally moving on. I have talked to friends who were incredulous that I was still there. I was told that it would be approximately $492 to spay a 10 lb dog! After calling around, I found this estimate to be extremely high. Please don't tell me that you get what you pay for---with veterinary care, this is NOT always the case. more

I Agree with Kristen P. 6/22/2007

You will pay 4 to 5 times for treatment here compared to other established veterinary services. You will bring your pet here for several visits before the actual cure/ treatment is given. You will be told that your pet needs many services/ treatments to determine the problem. When you finally catch on to their methods you will actually feel a vacuum that seeks out your wallet when you walk in the place. I had delt with this place for 3-4 years because of how close and convenient it is to my home. After being bled for every dime they could get out of me, I finally got a second opinion on a pet that they could not find out what the problem / cure was. It only took 2 visits to another vet to find the problem/ cure for her and what I was charged for both visits, multiple x-rays, meds (3 different) ,and blood tests (3) was half the price of one visit to this BUSINESS. Although the staff is excellent, courteous and caring, I believe this is just a sugar coating to the bad taste that you will more
