pretentious ageist staff 8/16/2011

When I read reviews about restaurants that are negative, I always give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. But unfortunately for Bijoux, the reviews calling the waitstaff and hostess/manager rude are shockingly true. I have never been so insulted or treated so disrespectfully by anyone in the restaurant industry. Please don't give this restaurant your business, especially if you are an ethnic young professional because they will treat you like a child you who does not deserve to be there. There are better restaurants in Dallas that will not ruin your night. more

Good Luck 2/12/2010

Expecting great things. When we arrived there were only 2 other tables.Could be more attention to detail for us or the place is dying.Proved to be the latter.Scallops overcooked to the point they could not be cut.Fish was rubber. When we brought this to the attention of our one in the same host, waiter, bartender he offered to re-fire the offending dishes.Unfotunately the quail egg on the previous dish was over cooked and rubbery. This was a pattern that had to stop. The omni -staff person offered to send the rest home in to go bags and then charged us for the offending dishes. The chef never showed and there was never an apology.Someone needs to close the doors before others get taking for this ride! Cons: rude service, over cooked food more

What a bummer 3/10/2009

I ignored previous reviews because my first experience was so good. I'm upset everyone else was right. Food was mediocre. Mostvof his glavors were very bland. What was blsmf was over salty. I had to return fois gras!!!I will not be back more

Disappointing ""Jewel"" Bijoux 1/11/2009

We ate at Bijoux this past weekend for a special occasion, and while the foie gras and the sauterne that accompanied it were delicious, the rest of the meal was disappointing. The sea scallops were so over salted that we could hardly finish them. Accompanied by a bacon vinaigrette, it was salt overkill. The cheese course was laughable. One slice of an ordinary cheese on a bread ""tart"" slice. The chef needs to try a cheese course in France, and appreciate what this course means. The drinks and wine were fine, the food was sub-par. The chef came out, but did not stop at our table. We were prepared to tell him what we thought, but unfortunately we didn't get the chance. We will never go back. York Street, you have my heart in this category. Pros: Nice wine list, good service, nice ambience, easy to park Cons: Place was empty even though it was hard to get a reservation, food was not great, and the cost was very high. more

Rude Hostess 10/31/2008

I would not recommend this restaurant. While the food and decor was fine, I found the hostess to be rude and unwelcoming. For the prices, I expect a pleasant atmosphere and courteous service. I will not be going back to this establishment. Pros: food, decor Cons: rude hostess more

A Culinary Gem? I Don't Think So 10/30/2008

Live in NYC but had a work function dinner here recently and was not too impressed. The food was just okay. Not sure where they get the culinary gem description because if you're from nyc, the food here doesn't even compare. A side note: found the restaurant to feel a bit too stuffy/pretentious. Did not enjoy my eating experience here and would not recommend. more

THE WORST ALL AROUND 10/18/2008

This is supposed to be one of the top restaurants in Dallas? Who did Bijoux payoff or sleep with to get that rating? The food was less than average -- the fact that it is supposed to be 4 Stars makes my rating of the food lower. And the service?!?!?! Is it possible to give the service something less than negative? Okay, to be fair, the waitstaff was alright. The hostess? B**ch would be a compliment for her. She was so distastefully rude. Her attitude was unbelievable. Trust me, she wasn't ""all that"". She should really humble herself several notches. And what's worst!?!?!?! Our table witnessed her basically berate this other table/party for no particular reason at all. There seemed to be some confusion/misunderstanding (which from what we heard was created by the hostess) and she went all off - threatening to call the police...bascially throwing a mini-hissy fit over NOTHING. I was embarrassed for the restaurant. And Bijoux wants to be represented by someone like her? UNBELIEVABLE. And the icing on the cake? They try to squeeze in all these extra charges. You need to be careful of your bill. First they try to make it seem like it's all part of the ""service"" fee. When you really call them on it, they apologize saying it was a mistake - it was meant for another table. Please, please, please do not go to this restaurant. more

Great continental cuisine in a refined setting 8/27/2008

We went as a couple during Restaurant Week. As we arrived early, we sat at the nice, small bar. I reviewed the wine list, which was pretty fairly priced for such an upscale restaurant. The selection wasn't as deep as one might expect but there were certainly many terrific choices at fair prices.\r \r At the appointed time, the hostess sat us promptly. The crowd was having a good time and the volume of conversation was at an active buzz. We opted for 4 courses with wine pairings. I loved my pork belly appetizer and my date loved her melon carpaccio. Some of the wines were a bit ""pedestrian"" for such a fine restaurant, but tasted fine. What I mean is that it would have been nice if they had tried a little harder to serve wines that weren't widely available, everyday wines. The suggested wine pairings were pretty well thought out. \r For entrees we had the steak and the salmon - both very tasty. The desserts were excellent as well. I loved my almond panna cotta - understated, not too sweet. She loved her chocolate mousse, which was more like a chocolate cake.\r Bijoux also provided an extra course at the beginning and at the end of the meal so it was more like 6 course. Service was very competent and unobtrusive. Overall it was a very enjoyable dining experience. Pros: Beautiful setting, excellent service, refined food Cons: Expensive more

GREAT FOOD & SERVICE 8/13/2008

Seven friends and I recently visited Bijoux during restaurant week and learned for ourselves that it does deserve all those stars. Everything from the service to the food was excellent including the atmosphere, not too stuffy but at the same time you knew you were in a proper setting. Usually restaurant week consist of 3 courses, but here it was more like 7 if you include the optional fourth course and the two tastings presented by the head chef and the pastry chef. I enjoyed the pork belly, NY strip, and almond panna cotta, all of which was top notch! Pros: great food and service, the decor is also fabulous Cons: slightly small portions more

I have never had such fabulous food, but been treated so badly. 7/26/2008

I made my reservations 2 weeks in advance. It was a special day. The reservation was confirmed on the day of the reservation. We were seated in the back corner, when most tables were empty. My wife, was the only woman in the room not offered a hanger for her purse,(do it for all or not at all.) It was like a country club and we were the only non-members. The chef went to every table in the restaurant except ours, (the table next to ours made it clear to all they were on the board of regents at SMU and had recently been at a White House dinner). All others to the back of the room even though we ordered the chef's tasting menu with wine, because it was so highly recommended by our friends. We have been warmly welcomed by such stellar chefs and hosts as Daniel Boulud (love his pistachio tart), Hubert Keller in San Fransisco, and especially Joel Robuchon, but at this ""club"" even though we spent over $400 for 2 we were treated like step-childeren, because we were there for the first time. Like I mentioned the food was stellar, especially the Rouget Barbet. However, you should never so blatantly treat non-regulars, so differenty from the rest of the room!!!! It will ruin the dining experience. more

wow 7/2/2008

I've been several times now, and I opt for the tasting menu every time. Earlier this summer, they missed on an entree and a cheese dish, but aside from that the food has been basically flawless. Chef Gottlich is great with foie gras, and I'm digging what he does with quail these days too. I've had pork belly several ways, and it's better here than anywhere else I've had it.\r \r And the service is extremely friendly and polished. This is probably my favorite restaurant right now. Pros: flavors; service; location Cons: too expensive to eat as often as I'd like more

Believe the hype 5/2/2007

Unbelievable dinner. Headed back this weekend. We thought it has a great atmosphere. Not stuffy at all for fine dining. Really impressed with the menu and there was some inventive things on it I haven't seen before. Great addition to the Dallas culinary scene. more
