What a place! Learning dancing and more! Life lessons in a safe environment, family welcomed to stay and wait for student, has a play place for siblings to play, a quiet area for ...

Worst

Dance is supposed to be fun and challanging, but most of the time it became just a chore, until you had a show to do, where you could be on stage and be free. Many of the teachers...

don't waste your time.... 7/15/2008

I danced at Anita's for eight years. At first i loved it. It was so much fun and i was in the same class as my friends. But, when i got in the kid's company, the junior company, and the high junior company i got busy with my school, church, family, and friends. I missed dance because i was sick and got embarrassed in front of the whole company because i missed one class and i got yelled at in front my whole class for not doing a step right which is not very professional. Some of the teachers at Anita's are not the nicest people. i do not recommend Anita's for someone who is looking for a dance studio.... Cons: unfriendly staff more

Listen up! 7/8/2008

so it really is a great studio. i am a dancer there and have been for a while now. it is ggreat the competition team is amazing they get so many firsts and secondss and they aren't cocky about it at all. i mean the studio isn't super stressing on technique and everythingg but they give everyone a chance and you are placed by levels one you get into the company's. to be honest i have looked at other studios and have had times where i hated anita's but looking at these other studio's they didn't compare. i mean eatherr they were terrible or they were very scandolous dances. For example the girlss would be dancing way to seductive for their age and there costumes there would be like nothingg there. so i could never leave anita's they are great. and they are definitly raising the bar for technique and abilty a lot. and yes they are picking favorites there but you learn to deal with it or focus and dance and become a favorite. just do you rbest and give it your all and you will deffinitly succeed at Anita's. more

The Short 6/25/2008

The Short: \r \r The facility is beautiful, the costumes and recitals will make your student feel like a star, and there is a wealth of opportunity for advancement. However, the people on this site who say that nothing is wrong with the studio are not looking at the situation from all sides. Take it from someone who has spent a great deal of her life there and now works in the industry: there are so many dance educators out there who will take much better care of your kids. I promise.\r \r Pros: Beautiful Facility, Show-Stopping Recitals Cons: Large Classes, Inexperienced Teachers, Inappropriate Behavior, Lack of Professionalism more

Isn't without it's flaws 6/19/2008

Like any business, Anita's isn't perfect, however, I haven't come across any business that is. I have been involved with the studio for numerous years, and I'll admit I've checked out other studios as well. Yet when it came down to it Anita's was what suited me. It may not suite all people looking for that perfect technique, but it IS PERFECT for anyone that just wants to dance. Not many girls would last at other studios demanding that perfect technique because of their ability or learning ability or social skills, but EVERYONE gets the chance to dance at Anita's no matter who they are. \r \r \r I know people who dance at other studios that claim to be better and I've seen their recitals and frankly I saw little difference between them and Anita's. And if you look at the other reviews here on the site, they are from past company members and teachers, however, they just represent the few negative opinions out of the thousands of girls that have taken classes there. It is important to remember the facts: 1. These girls chose to take company classes that require a specific time, ability, and behavior commitment, that often requires more money to participate. 2. There are hundreds of other girls at the studio that aren't in the companies that go there. 3. You pay weekly not counting absences (with a registration fee in August) and costumes have never gone over $70 per costume for at large students which is the average for a decent costume ANYWHERE you may go. \r \r \r It is also important to remember when going into an atmosphere such as dance, acting, singing, or athletics there are competitive people, parents and children. And when these stage-moms and dads get involved, there is going to be a lot of drama and negatives no matter who their kid is because they only want ""THE BEST"" because their child is ""THE BEST"" no matter what. \r \r \r Kids need to be kids, if they enjoy what they are doing in a friendly atmosphere they will enjoy the studio. Pros: Location, varieties of opportunity, staff. Cons: Competitive parents more

Impact on life PART II 6/8/2008

now in many reviews, it is said that the classes are expensive along with the shoes. The shoes are the price of an average pair of shoes so take away a pair of sandals and there's a pair of ballet shoes for you. Once again it is all choices. The older you get, and the higher you excel, yes it may becomemore expensive because you are there more often.I am proud to say i am a member of the Dance Company and yes, its a huge committment, but ifyou really love dance, hen it should be no problem.Everything at Anitas IS professional. You are treated with respect as much as people say there is drama and rudeness.I would like you to tell me one place that doen't have drama. Im sorry, it is not the teachers fault nor Anitas for any drama between the girls/boys.They bring it up to the table becasue they are teenagers.Goodness.The teachers and instructors try to nip it in the butt and keep drama out, but its not easy.Theydo the very best they can. It is not tolerated. They know when you truly love dance and WANT to be there. Its not favorites, its called NOTICING those who care. I have not just grown as a dancer, but as a person. They teach you how to be independent and take care of yourself.Being there a lot keeps me away from trouble.Anitas is my home away from home. I feel happy when i am there and comfortable.and about myspace. it is completely reasonable to keep a great reputation by not putting pictures from dance on a myspace page. they just dont want any dancer getting hurt, which makes complete sense. You are allowed to have a boyfriend if you are a girl and a girlfriend if you are a boy. They just ask to keep personal life and dance separate(very professional) and to clear things up, you do NOT pay for missed classes.I am guessing that the people didn't know what they were doing for so long and just payed anyways(which goes into your money for costumes, so they NEVER ripped you off) I hope this helps many people out. I love Anita's and I woudl nto go anywhere else. Thanks Pros: great classes, people, shows, instruction, home away from home, prices Cons: none what so ever more

makes a tremendous impact on life 6/8/2008

So i have read all of the reviews for Anitas Dance Center and I have to say that i am completely awe-struck and baffled about how many negative reviews the studio has. I suggest reading all of the reviews before reading this one. If you did already, i bet you noticed how the positive review and negative reviews totally contradict eachother, so I am here to set the tone and get everything straight. First of all, I am going to say that this is my 13th year dancing at the studio and staying there that long means there must be and most definately is something great about it. Anitas Dance Center is a place designed for those who are strongly interested in dance such as getting to higher levels and being professional, but also for those who just like to dance for fun. When i was reading other reviews, i found it interesting how many people did not like the amount of money being spent on shoes, costumes, and classes and that their child wasn't getting proper dance instruction. It is all about choices. Would you rahter have 2 expensive costumes that look decent on stage or have 10 cheap costumes with no quality that fall apart?..and honestly, the costumes truly aren't too expensive. It was said in a previous review about having four costumes and dances in a Christmas show... im sorry but that is an incorrect statement. There is no class with four dances in one single show besides the competition team and Dance Company. And Anita's understands that soem costumes are expensive, so they re-use them. The dance instruction is absolutely fabulous. Teachers DO know what they are doing and are definately old enough to teach. There are no bogus ruitines put together the night before shows. And for those who complain about having to be dedicated::: there is no point in your life that should be just a party without working hard. You cannot go through life by not working to get farther and achieving goals. I understand this is a long review, but please read the next one that i posted Pros: great people, dancing, instruction, classes,shows... everthing Cons: absolutely none. more

the best place ever! 6/2/2008

I absolutly LOVE anitas. Don't listen to all the rude reviews. Honestly its the best place i've ever been compared to Arabeque and Young dance academy. people were extremely mean to me there and everyone is so nice at anitas Pros: amazing teachers, dances, shows, and everything is amazing Cons: only go 3 days a week... wish i went more. lol more

Awsome Studio 5/23/2008

This is one of the best studios I have ever danced at. I started at the park and rec dance group because i didn't think that i was going to continue but I did since I was at the top of their class. They reccomened me for being in the kids company at Anita's Dance Center. I am glad that they did because now I have a lot of friends there. I am happily placed with my friends in the High Junior Company this year we have awsome dances and there is a very friendly staff. Also, if you need help witha step they are willing to stay after and break it down to help you. They are very nice there when you walk in they know who you are you just arn't some random person. I have been very pleased with my overall progress with my dancing since i have joined there. more

Worst studio ever 5/11/2008

I enrolled my 17 year old daughter into Anita's a couple months ago and I was very dissapointed. I had switched dance studios because Anita's was a christian studio, but i felt as if it wasn't at all. The staff there has harrassed me and my husband, played favorites with the girls and made rude comments about her dancing in front of class and to other parents. I don't understand how a studio can portray themselves as christians if these are the actions they are making. I'm not here to list all the things that they have done, but other mothers have also taken there daughters our of Anita's because of these problems and other situations that have occured. Also the male staff has been known to go into the dressing rooms and where the girs change, which was very uncomfortable for my daughter. She had mentioned it to Mrs. Anita but she refused to believe her and called her a liar and then announced it to her class.\r I do not recommend this studio, and I would suggest finding a different location to send your child if he/she is attending Anita's. Pros: Assortment of classes. Cons: Impolite and inconsiderate staff. more

was not impressed 4/16/2008

I enrolled my young child in anita's dance center a few years back, and she seemed to enjoy the classes. I promptly payed for the weekly classes, shoes, and (rather expensive) costumes. At the time, I believed my daughter was recieving quality dance instruction. Once the first dance rehearsal came around, I watched from the audience as my young daughter's class stood on stage having no idea what they were doing. I was appalled that I had invested so much money into Anita's only to see my daughter being humiliated on stage. Afterwards, myself and a few other parents went to speak with the staff about our children's dance, or lack thereof. Rather than taking responsibility for their studio they verbally insulted the dance teacher, which I felt was unprofessional. My daughter has since left Anita's and is now at another studio, her dancing has matured greatly, and we couldn't be happier. I am sure the experience with this studio differs from family to family. However, coming from a parent, I would be wary of where you place your child. more

Mediocre at Best 3/12/2008

In a personal opinion, after spending 11 years of my life at Anita's Dance Center, I would be sketchy about joining the studio. I was a student at the studio back when they were in a small, confined space with three seperate studio rooms for classes, before the bogus, and expensive, expansion. As the Piggly Wiggly next door closed down and Anita decided to buy the space, the prices for classes began to gradually rise until my parents were paying nearly 30$ a week for me to take dance classes. I joined the Junior Dance Company after 8 years of regular classes, and was incredibly thrilled at the start. It was then that I started to hate dance more and more. We had practices at least three times a week, and God-forbid you have to miss a lesson. Some reviews say you had to pay for the weeks you missed, but that's not true, but you would get yelled at or at least a fierce talking to if you missed a class. The teachers were high school or college students with little to no teaching experience and generally taught classes they were unfamiliar with. Technique at Anita's is a joke, although recitals may be fun to watch. After a disagreement and false accusation by the co-owner, Miss Julie Parker, I decided to leave the studio. I yearned to dance again at other studios, but I was turned down by all of them because ""Anita's dancers have no technique, and trying to teach them technique at 15 years old is a lost cause. Unless you want to take classes with the 4 year olds, I suggest you find another studio."" And that was how my dancing career ended. more

Amazing workouts and dances friendly staff and a fun enviroment 2/23/2008

The have a very talented, fun and encouraging staff. Pros: Fun more

Undecided Review 2/8/2008

I have not been to Anita's in 13 years, but I can see from the reviews some things never change. Anita still has her favorites (Go to a show, as I did two years ago. The favorite is the girl with many solos dancing right in front.), Some of the girls have bigger egos than needed, and the studio should be first in everyone's life. I started dancing at Muskego Dance Studio when I was 2 years old. For those of you who do not know, Muskego Dance Studio was the name of Antia's when her mother was the owner. Anita's mother and sister were my first dance teachers. Every week I looked forward to going to my dance lessons in the now nonexistant Parkland Mall. I met such wonderful girls & had a great time learning new dances. I'm sure that my mother loved the time to gab with the other mothers. By the time I was in middle school, Anita had taken over the studio. The studio really began to grow and soon moved to its location now. How exciting it was to move into this brand new faciltiy. During this time I had not joined the Dance Company. I was involved with cheerleading and didn't think I had enough time. Also, I was in the classes with the girls in the company. Not all of them were the nicest girls. I didn't think that I could handle being around them multiple times a week in the many classes company members had to take. I did start to teach classes. I loved teaching even though no training was involved except for my experiences with classes I took. I don't kow about hte teachers now. My junior year of high school I did join the company. I wanted to see if I was missing out of anything. That is were I am undecided. I was not one of the favorites. I really didn't care I just wanted to dance. And I did dance. I danced until literally hours before leaving for college. I was with this studio for sixteen years of my life. I wouldn't want anyone to take away my experience with Anita's. However, I am one of few who left that studio at the time on good terms with the owner. more

Money Guzzler. 1/30/2008

I danced here for numerous years, started when i was four. It started off as a small little business but as i got older i was placed into a company and excelled from there. As soon as i joined the compaines my life was devoted to dance. You would spend all of saturday working on your dances becuase you didnt do anything in your last couple of classes so your left with a bogos routine that they threw together the night before. I always enjoyed dance, drama was always there, mostly becuase of bossy teachers that were basically your age with not much better dancing skills. I had heard what hard work the dance company was and how you had to be devoted so I QUIT before i moved up. Plus the $100 a costume was getting ridiculous especially when your in about 4 dances for the christmas show, then for the nutcracker, the spring show, and the june show, it gets outrageous. You are counted on to be there every minute of every class and show, the ladder thing is true, but they do not go by it. I enjoyed dancing there i met some awesome girls and some disrespectful girls who were always the ""favorites"" which they DO have. I love dancing i still do but i wouldnt recommend Anitas. Way to drama filled, and it is ""ANITAS DANCE CENTER"" it revolves around her, and if you dont go by her rules and commit your life to her, dont bother dancing there. more

More than just dancing 12/30/2007

Anita's Dance Center is the perfect place to not only grow as a dancer but a person. Through class and shows you are taught responsibility and respect for others. As a team, you grow with your class or company. You are in a very safe and friendly enviorment the moment you walk through the door. Gossip is not tolerated whatsoever as well. The studio works hard, has fabulous shows, and great performances. I have been with the studio for a number of years now and can call it my second home. The staff is knowledgable and friendly too. Overall, a great place to dance and suceed! Bravo Anita and Company! Bravo! Pros: Great performing opportunities, newly renovated space, affordable more

Undecided 12/16/2007

I have read all of the reviews to date on this site and find that all of them seem to have some truth to them and all of them seem to have some exaggeration. Personally, I was a student there for many years and was involved in all three of the companies. In agreement with another review I would say you do not find out what you are really getting into until you are in the Dance Company. I did end up quitting because of some upsetting personal issues I had with the place, but I don't think it's all bad. I want to be as objective as I can be because I think biased reviews are little more than worthless. I think the younger classes are taught by most teachers with care and patience by people who really enjoy what they are doing. I was a teacher for several years and it was by far my favorite aspect of participating in the group. Anita's also provided a lot of opportunities for performing which is was something I really loved doing. Although I would definitely say after viewing a few other studios performances and joining high school poms, the dancing is outdated and lacking in technique. I have very mixed feelings about the way people are treated there-having met wonderful people and hateful people. I would personally never bash Julie Parker because to me she was always wonderful and I always sensed that she and I had something deeply in common. Yet, I would agree with the fact that they absolutely play favorites often to the point of being extremely unfair. I think a lot of the way they do things is unfair and the time commitment they expect from high school girls with lives is often ridiculous. I also feel that they have unnecessarily strict rules about hanging out with friends which is really none of their business at all. On a more positive note, I would not exchange the years I danced there for anything because I had a great time and met some amazing girls that I still talk to. I would be wary, but I wouldn't believe everything you read. more

Negative. 12/16/2007

I agree with all the negative views. I've dance at Anita's for 15 years. I was in all the Company's, including Dance Company. You will only find out the truth about this place if you are in the dance company. That's where you basically sign a contract saying ""YOU DEDICATE YOUR LIFE TO US"". In easier terms, THEY OWN YOU. Oh and then of course there is their ""Ladder"" that they have. They say the order is Family, Religion, Dance, and then Friends. But really it goes like this..Dance, Money, Dance recitals, More money, Costumes, Practices, oh how about some more MONEY. I'm not even being sarcastic when I say that. If you say you have a family reunion or church they get furious. Oh also you shouldn't be in the dance company if you have a boyfriend, ""It's unprofessional"". Oh and god forbid you have a Myspace to keep in contact with your old friends, friends from dance too. They will come to class and have a meeting, accusing us of having drinking pictures or something outrageous like that. They also had a former teacher basically spy on us aka Miss Angela. It's not CIA, it's dance. Oh and don't make ANY MISTAKES, because if you brake one of their stupid rules, you will, without a doubt, be talked about for many years to come. Very unprofessional. Also on their trips they threaten to ship you back home on a plane if you are not back in the room from the pool exactly at 10. Ridiculous. I find it hilarious how many people ended up hating them in the end. Other than that I made a lot of good friends, and I had fun to a certain extent. But when you start to see all the negative sides to it, it pretty much ruins all of your positive thoughts. Thats my conclusion.\r \r Oh and by the way all the girls are pretty positive that Anita and Julie write the positive Reviews, so don't waste your time reading a book if lies!\r \r Oh and just for the record, I didn't get kicked out, I quit. Pros: some really nice students/teachers Cons: lies, expensive, fake people more

not for serious dancers 10/17/2007

agree with the other comments-wouldnt recommend for those who are serious about proper technique and bettering themself as a dancer. as a former anita's dancer i can say i regret spending so much money there when i could have gotten my money's worth somewhere else more

Not for those who wish to keep their self-esteem 10/17/2007

I find myself agreeing with the negative reviews 100%. As a former member of the dance company, I can honestly say that I don't know how I ever put up with the constant verbal abuse and personal attacks that I and other girls suffered. Looking back, I regret not going to a better studio. You DO pay for the classes you miss, after the first 3. I am from a middle class family and it was difficult affording the classes and new costumes, which are very overpriced. For those in a company, find yourself dancing in unconvenient locations with no audience (i.e. a gravel road) and no sound system. Focus is solely on competition team and dances are poorly thrown together in a few days. There is nothing to say about technique because none is taught, and what is is very outdated and ineffective. The talent I had while at Anitas I taught myself or learned from poms. Dont plan on being involved in any other studios or sports while at Anita's, you will be kicked out or threatened. They pick favorites, and even if you devote your heart and soul to dancing, you may be treated unfairly. If you are a parent, plan on devoting much time to the studio if you want your child to have a fair chance. Expect to be accused of not paying, when in most cases you did. Plan on rumors being said about you. To me, dance was my life. It is very sad to say that Anita's ruined that passion for me. I was verbally attacked publicly for being sick, and many times I left dance crying for hours. There were many times when I felt like quitting because I was so unhappy with how I was treated. Anita's concern is not for what's best for her students, but what will make her the most money. She hides behind her ""christian values."" Anitas is demeaning, uncomfortable, and highly unprofessional. While some may refer to me as a ""disgruntled student,"" I can only say that I speak from personal experience, and I know many others who would agree with me. Please do not make the same mistake I did. Pros: Free Parking Cons: Expensive, Inexperienced Teachers, Lack of Quality more

OK for recreational dancing... 10/9/2007

This studio is good for you if you're dancing 1 hour a week just for fun. The teachers are very friendly but the instruction just isn't that good and there is barely any preformance quality during their shows. If you are seriously interested in becoming a better dancer and performer with clean technique, Anita's is probably not the place for you. more
