About Faces Day Spa & Salon

I walked in for a simple brow wax and was immediately taken back to the spa by the receptionist who said Galina could do it. Galina curtly remarked that she was on break so a girl named Stephanie offered to do the wax and went to get her tools. When Stephanie returned, ready, Galina got up shouting my name and for me to follow her. This left Stephanie standing there uncomfortably as the sale was now Galina's who was all of a sudden off her break. The brow wax was fine other than now I'm missing almost my entire left eyebrow. When I checked out the receptionists commented to me that they really hate it when Galina acts like that and they felt bad for Stephanie. Is this Gossip Girls? It was awkward, uncomfortable, and unprofessional, but next time I'll ask for Stephanie - she was the only decent one in this entire fiasco. more

Yes, I agree the staff is rude and not too bright(especially front/check out) They are FAR from ""high class at this location. Pros: Easy parking, relaxing upstairs Cons: staff tries to hussle women for money, not so bright staff. more

Got a simple layering haircut for around $50 which I thought was a bit ridiculous. Went to a different salon for highlights and was asked by 2 different stylists there ""Did you cut your own hair? Who was your last stylist?!"" Apparently, instead of layering, the lady just cut a huge chunk out of my hair and left about 2 inches of nothing in between in the back. Awesome. Thanks. One side of my hair had a lot of layering in it, and the other side barely was touched. The lady didn't really know how to work with fine hair which is what I have - what little I have I don't want butchered and made worse. The front desk staff showed me to her space while she was still finishing up with a client so I had to sit off on the side until she was finished. A bit awkward. I was there at the time I was appointed. Got to listen to her talk with other employees about how someone was robbed in their spa while getting a massage or something. Someone stole her wallet out of her purse. Yeah, that makes me want to come in for a massage! Not a great place to go. I'd recommend All About Me in Towson. Much better service. Every time I've been here, it's been only an average to below average experience. I get better customer service at the Hair Cuttery in Cockeysville, MD than here. I see no reason to spend so much money at this average to below average salon. They need to choose better hair stylists. It's a below average salon dressed up to appear better than it really is. The last time I went my hair stylist Jenn talked about how much she didn't want kids after I talked to her about my child. Then she had negative opinions at the fact that I took my child there for a hair cut. She thought that children should be young and their hair shouldn't matter at that young age. I was surprised at her negativity about children and her lack of support for her company. Then she complained that I hadn't made an appointment with her in 6 months, which obviously was too long for her. Her rude facial expressions were alarming to me. I did not know how long I had waited to have her cut my hair again, but she let me know with her sour attitude. Hair stylists have poor communication skills and are unhappy people. It's been worse at the About Faces Day Spa in Towson, MD. Unbelievable! I have now come to the conclusion that About Faces is a below average salon. I did not know if I was in Russia or in Timonium. Will never go back there. Manicurist are very rude and only spoke their Russian language. Felt very uncomforable and could not wait to get out of there. Too institutionalized for me. Rather go to a more personalized Spa. more

This is the MOST UNFRIENDLY CHAIN OF SALONS I have ever been to. The front desk staff has one goal, to be as RUDE, SNOBBISH & CALLOUS as they can be! This place (in fact all About Faces establishments) reeks of bad manners, rudeness and they are down right nasty. I returned for a second visit (hair straightening) with my stylist, only to find out that she had left the business and they didn't know where she was! When I made the appointment, they didn't tell me of her departure and scheduled me anyway with someone else. You would have thought they would have told me that my original stylist left, as I pay around $500.00 for this service. This service requires someone with extensive training, so I wanted someone who at least would have equal to or has the experience as my previous stylist. By the way, I live in Va., and I traveled 3 hrs. to get to my appt. The service takes approx. 4-5 hrs. to perform. 3 hrs. to the appt., 5 hrs. to perform the service, and 3 hrs. back home = 11 hours to more

When you go to About Faces think about people who work there. Company does not care about workers who make money for them and make them famous. For example, they don't care about massage therapists. They sit 6 hours of their shift for nothing, waiting for the customer to come. Company doesn?t pay for waiting and people go home without making a single penny. Cons: horrible management more

I called to make an appt and was told Danielle was one of their best haircutters. I was so pleased that I made another appointment within four weeks and also referred several friends. Everyone was very nice. more

I have to disagree with some of the reviews I have read. I was given a gift certificate for a Day Of Beauty to this salon for Mothers Day and what a wonderful day it was. I was treated like a queen all day. The people there are very nice; not stuck up and snobbish like some people have reported. Never once did they make me feel like I was not welcome. It's also in a great location. Parking was easy!! I cannot wait to go back!!! more

I've never had a positive or relaxing experience at this salon. I've been many times and have tried all their services - all of which have been horrible. Why have I subjected myself to this? The only reason is because I own my own business down the street and have received numerous gift certificates to this place over the years. I no longer use the gift certificiates - I actually 'regift' the gift certificates to my staff but do warn them first. The women in there are so rude and pretentious - both the staff and clients - it's disgusting. I've had my hair ruined there and listened to both my stylist and another stylist discuss how to overcharge clients they are working on so they never have to see the client again. My co-worker and I had our nails done there and got to hear the Russian nail techs talk about us - until I spoke back to them in Russian since I happen to speak the language - not to mention the fungal infections from their dirty bowls. I signed up for a massage because I previously had a good experience here, but when I went back, I had a different therapist and she was hurried. I recommend Cheryl Raeburn or Katalin. more

I have had MANY of massages before and never experienced such a bizarre massage! The therapist chomped on her very minty gum through the entire massage. She began the massage by sticking her fingers inside of my ears. I enjoy ear massages, but usually it's external. The massage was far from a ""swedish relaxation massage."" She was very abrupt and seemed to want to rush through the hour. She did somethings to one side of my body and something completely different to the other. I will say that my neck felt a bit better afterwards, but everything else was left feeling confused. I really don't know what to say as far as my recommendation. I am still a little confused by the experience. more

I appreciated the confirmation call prior to my appointment. She was very friendly. When I arrived at the salon I felt like the front desk staff was cold and not very happy to be there. The atmosphere of the salon was like a surgical clean room. Everything is black and white. The salon seemed to have a high class attitude which is not consistent with my personality. I think About Faces is a status salon. The prices are high and the service and skills of the staff and stylist are just ok. I won't go back again. The first time was for a brazilian wax, horrific results but I decided to give it another try with something else- manicure and pedicure. That was even worse: the manicurist was too rough and I left with sore cuticles. Not to mention I was not ""allowed"" to get the type of french manicure that I wanted to get. There was no massage for my feet either. Worst of all they were so rude, instead trying to develop a relationship, my nail tech was too busy talking to her co workers in another language that I could not understand, which made me uncomfortable. Bad attitudes,intimidating even coming in there with that big desk and factory feel.I havent had any good facials or waxings.The hair people are great but thats it.I dont like the chairs for brow wax.Noisy and loud.When I go to other Spas even if its just a brow wax they let me lay down and relax in a separate room.Myabe i just like smaller cozy places that are welcoming and not places like this that is becoming a bigger and bigger franchise.Not personal at all!!! Yelena does a great job cutting hair, and I have also had good experiences with the nail and spa services. They are a busy, full service salon, with reasonable prices, easy parking, and always seems to be able to fit me in for an appointment. They DO NOT push the hair care products on customers, which I really, really appreciate. I use the Kenilworth location. more

I went here for a brazilian wax, something that I've had done many times before at a different salon (I just moved here). The wax was too hot and the method they use is horrible! It's been 2 days and the area is still red and sore. I would NOT recommend going here for any waxing. more
