Great waxing, great deals Love it! 4/4/2012

I have been going to Zena's since I moved to Baltimore in August. I was a little nervous but read online reviews and found Elizabeth and seriously lucked out. She is quick and talks throughout the entire process (I'm in and out in like 10 min!) so you don't even feel uncomfortable. More over, if you ever mention you have a special event coming up, she takes the time to pluck anything extra and even gives you free samples for treatment of ingrown hairs. As a medical student with little if any time to spare, I appreciate how quick she is (really, who wants to drag out a brazilian?) and have never had any problems with sanitation. And I would definitely notice. I have had a wax by someone else at Zena's and wasn't nearly as satisfied so I now make sure to come in on days when Elizabeth is working. Which isn't hard because she works every Tues and Wed (student discount days!) and will even come in on weekends. Finding a good salon was key, and definitely made the move from Boston a lot easier. Elizabeth also keeps me update on cool bars and restaurants to try which is good because aside from coming for waxes I basically live at the library. I would definitely recommend Zena's! more

Unsanitary/Rude 3/8/2012

I went for a brazilian. Elizabeth was nice and all, but towards the end I noticed she had been using the same wooden stick the entire time, dipping and re-dipping it into the wax. Every spa I've ever gone to has had a strict policy against this because it is incredibly unsanitary and can lead to cross-contamination. Gross!!! more

Best Facial Ever Ask for Yuliya 5/12/2010

I recently went to Zena's in Mount Vernon for a facial. I was a bit apprehensive because I was asked to take my top off, but it was well worth it. The lady who gave me the facial is named Yuliya. She is extremely professional, polite and knows what she is doing, not only did she give me an amazing facial, I got a great paraffin treatment for my hands, a deep facial mask and the icing on the cake, a mini massage with hot stones that blew my mind. When she was done, I could barely feel my legs, I was so relaxed and calm, that I felt revived, that part didn't last long, when I went to pay I came up against the worst receptionist ever. This chick must be completely retarded. She asked me several times how much it was after she was told several times by Yuliya what the price was, I felt like what a waste of a great facial, to have it destroyed by this idiot, when I tried to leave a cash tip, she told me, that I should have put it on my credit card before she rang it through, I was ready to ring something and it was her neck. The facial and mini massage were fabulous, receptionist Ter-a-ble was a nightmare, some people should not be allowed to work with the public. I recommend Yuliya, the receptionist not so much! Pros: 5 stars for my facial, but, Cons: the receptionist is retarded more

I have read all the reviews for Zena's and I can only imagine the people with negative reviews either had a fluke experience, are miserable hard to please people or just don't understand certain things about businesses providing personal services. I heard rave reviews from friends about Robert and Zena's, made appt. for haircut, got lost in the city and showed up 35+ minutes late. I was fully expecting to be told to reschedule (I would have totally deserved) but instead was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Robert and the staff were still very cordial and willing to work with me. Since I was so late, I needed to be flexible too. Robert is a busy man, with more appts than just mine. Why should my lateness affect the service he would provide to his other clients? He started my hair, we took a break so that he wouldnt be behind with his next client, then we resumed my hair and finished quickly. I have never had such a great haircut. by such a pleasant, entertaining and friendly person! I wanted to scream I was so giddy about my new cut! Hands down, I would reccomend Robert and Zena's to anyone who really wants great hair and great service. If you have had or do have a not so great experience there, maybe you should take a step back and realize maybe its you. This is a business, not YOUR personal glam squad. Oh, and not tipping....so low class. If you felt you were really given bad service you shouldve politely asked to speak to management or asked the stylist to correct what you believe was a mistake, but may have been miscommunication. With a better approach, you'd be surprised at the consideration you might recieve in return. Pros: BEST haircut ever! more

Robert Terry 9/15/2009

Robert at Zena's has been doing my hair for about a year now and I absolutely love him! He is very knowledgeable and I always leave with fabulous hair. I can't even count how many different hair stylists I have gone to but none of them have given my fine hair the volume that Robert has. One of my favorite things about his cuts is that they are easy to style. You don't have to do much in the morning to make his cuts look great. He will really listen to what you want, but will also give you great suggestions if you ask. I have also seen him do beautiful things with all sorts of hair types. Overall, Robert does a wonderful job (with both cut and color) and is a lot of fun to be around! more

I'm sorry that Bray had a bad experience. I promise that it is not typical of this sqalon. I've been going to Robert since 2002 and have never been disappointed. He is the only person I trust with my hair, and I have a LOT of it! If I'm not sure what I want, he gives great suggestions. If I need advice or product suggestions, he gives me at least 3 that he loves. I've sent numerous friends to him and have never had any complaints. As long as he is cutting hair, I will follow him wherever he goes <3 Thanks for the great hair, Robert! more

I came on to citysearch to write a nice review for Robert at Zena's and I just read Bray's review. I am dumbfounded! I just left the salon with the best cut I have ever had IN MY LIFE! Robert was a couple minutes late but that was all forgotten the minute I saw the woman who he had just finished up with. Her hair looked fantastic! I knew I was about to get a great cut then. All I can say, is anyone who doesn't get what they want with Robert, isn't being clear about what they want in the first place. He did exactly what I asked and made it Hollywood fabulous to boot. The woman in the chair next to me getting color work, even asked if she could trade stylists. No joke! I walked back to my office after he cut my hair and EVERYONE has commented on how great my cut is and now they all want to go to Robert too. I would follow him anywhere! Pros: Magic hands more

Excellent Haircut and Tips 4/21/2009

Zena's is great. Based on a recommendation, I went to Robert Terry. I wanted to grow my hair out, and he, unlike anyone before, managed to give me an excellent cut...twice. He turned my mop into a rock star look. I'm very pleased. I've also noticed some thinning so I asked him some tips on how to slow down my hair loss. He was full of helpful tips and information. He's done his homework as well. He knows all the latest scientific information regarding hair loss, and was able to recommend me a great product. Aside from all that, a Zena's visit is great fun. You'll have some good laughs. more

Ask for Jenny! 8/4/2008

Both my roomates and I recently started going to Zena's when we moved to Charles Village. We all use Jenny and have had nothing but fabulous hair cuts and colorings. Jenny is much more interested in taking the time with each client to make sure the job is done right instead of trying to jam in as many clients as possible in a day with sloppy and rushed performance. She listens to what it is you want and will make sure you get it! more

Great haircut, fast and friendly service, fantastic prices! 7/6/2008

The service I had for a cut was fantastic yesterday! I called to make the appointment at 9:30 and got in by noon. My stylist was Tanya. I have a simple, short hairstyle, but she did not rush and took a full hour to shampoo, cut, and style it. I made an appointment to come back for highlights next weekend. more

Most pathetic wax job ever 6/29/2008

I went in for what ended up being the worst brazilian wax I've ever had by Juliette at Zena's. I came home to find she did a patchy job - it was so bad I actually went somewhere else a few days later and was rewaxed. Not worth the money at all! more

I was left to sit on an unattractive couch for over 30 minutes, despite the fact that I had a scheduled appointment. Rude, unprofessional, obviously disorganized receptionist. Don't waste your time. Pros: none that i could see more

Great Massage - Quick Service 6/17/2008

I just returned from a massage. I almost didn't go because of some of the comments. I'm glad I ignored them. The place is beautiful. The massage room was relaxing (dim lighting, soothing sounds). The sheets where warm and comfortable. Will return. I made the appt. at 1pm and got in at 2pm. Pros: Very nice decor. Relaxing. Wonderful massage Cons: I could hear the gym a little during my massage. more

I've always been really picky about hair cuts- I have long brown hair and fear going to a salon looking okay and leaving with soccer mom hair. The taste level seemed up to par at Zena's- everyone was hip enough to understand a younger aesthetic, but also seemed rational and open minded enough to deliver to any age of client. The Service Is Horrible 11/10/2007

I tried to get a brazilian waxing there and had a horrible experience. I made an appointment for 10 am and when I got to the salon at 9:45 they told me they couldn't take me until noon. When I told the receptionist that my appointment was at 10, she said that she knew but they were all booked up for that time slot. They could only take three people and they had four waiting. Now, in my experience, having an appointment puts you at the front of the line, ahead of anyone who might be waiting, but apparently that's not the way things work at Zena's. An appointment means nothing to them. When I asked what the point of me making an appointment was, the receptionist told me that she had called me and left a message. She did not. I checked my cell phone and had no calls from them nor any voicemail messages. I'll never go back here again. more
