Service by Staff/Logan Rocks! 12/22/2010

I was given great detailed service by Logan at West Seattle Optix. He helped me pick frames that looked good on me, and also helped me figure out how to maximize my insurance coverage. I also got a good fitting and then since I gave him bad info about how far away I sit from the monitor he was able to mathematically adjust my prescription without having to go back in. Great service great frame selection, great experience. Thank you, Dean L. more

A mixed bag 9/13/2010

I have been pretty happy with the staff and the Dr. They are a little pushy on the sales floor though and I do not like that they will not give you a paper copy of your prescription so you can "shop" prices elsewhere - especially for contacts which can be purchased for nearly half at Costco. I don't like feeling "trapped" as a customer, but they are friendly and competent otherwise. more

Never again 5/20/2010

I wanted to patronize a local business, so went to this one. When it turned out I was unable to wear the glasses, I was bulled and stonewalled by Dr. Gormley himself. At one point he invaded my personal space, looked down on me and said, and I quote, "Just what is it you want?" This was AFTER I made it clear I expected to pay a restocking fee and AFTER I had suggested perhaps an exchange would work better for HIM. Oh, and AFTER Dr. Gormley said he could see why I was unable to wear them. I was in utter shock to be treated so rudely. By contrast, I went to Market Optical a few months later and purchased a pair there I was unable to wear. (I have a rather heavy prescription and a very sensitive bridge and some glasses are simply too heavy to be worn comfortably). Market Optical was incredibly nice and helpful, and let me pick out another pair which worked out great without so much as a restocking fee or anything addt'l. THEY now have a customer for life. The bottom line seems to be, WS Optix is great - unless you have a problem and then they want you OUT of the store. more

Excellent service, great experience 11/30/2009

I can honestly say I've never had a more pleasant and more professional experience at an optometrist. In less than an hour, I had an updated prescription, new contacts, and new glasses. Everybody I dealt with was very polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. I'll definitely be back, and I've never said that before about other optometrists. Glad to have found a good one, finally. more

Great Local Business 11/6/2009

Just had a great experience at West Seattle Optix. The staff were very quick to welcome me and sign me up for a same day appointment. The doctor didn't seem rushed and engaged me in friendly conversation while squirting all that stuff in my eyes. I've been going there since moving to West Seattle and will continue for sure. Comprehensive selection - I'm excited to get my new specs! more

Best eyes on the West Side 7/9/2009

This place rocks, great service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great frame selection. I would have rated this 4 stars because of the mark up on the frames, but I felt that the people rating this as a one star establishment deserved to be offset. Typical West Seattle trash, me first now. I bet the one star reviewers for this place wanted a pair of Gucci frames thrown in for free. In their minds, if they don't get a little something for nothing then this place sucks. Not a place to go if you don't have insurance, go to Costco. They are also great. Generally speaking, the people I've met that dislike W.S. Optix are people that have no health insurance, and are thrown off by the cost of glasses without insurance. They are no different than any other place. Shop around, they fall somewhere in the middle as far as price goes. Great stuff for kids too, I referred Optix to my sister, and my nephew's frames look great! more

Very disappointing 3/26/2009

Despite reading a bad review I went here because I live 2 blocks away. Now you couldn't pay me to go back. HORRIBLE customer service that seems to stem from the optometrist himself. He wouldn't let me return an UNOPENED box of contacts - now I am very sorry I purchased a pair of glasses from them when I found contacts were too uncomfortable. more

Unsatisfactory service 2/16/2009

Went in to get an eye exam and was given wonderful service from the front office person, but was later told by the optometrist that she gave me bad information about my insurance and so I would have to be an additional sum. Felt like I was given a very hard sale push by the optometrist to buy more eyeglasses than I needed. When I picked up my new eyeglasses and for the next few weeks experienced extreme migraines due to a strong prescription. Had to go back to get it adjusted which took a few additional weeks. I then let them know that I would be unable to pick up the glasses due to financial strain (additional cost of the bad information included) 6 months later I received a letter with the new eyeglasses enclosed stating that they had charged my account for the balance without my signature or permission. After scrutinizing the enclosed receipt, it appeared that they had charged someone's else credit card for my balance. I sent a letter of concern to the BBB. I would not recomment this location for any service. Later found out that the optometrist had given this bad service to another person that I knew. more

service 1/20/2009

Had an eye exam on 1/5 and was told lenses for my glasses would be available by 1/9 and they would call me to schedule appt. to have lenses fitted. When no one called by 1/13, I called and was told they neglected to send in the order and lenses would be available by 1/16. No one called, so I called today 1/21 and was told their employee Susie had called me, and the appt. was scheduled for yesterday 1/20,When I assured the person there had been no call and no appt scheduled, I was told Susie would have never have entered this info unless it was correct, which is absolutely untrue. Am now scheduled for tomorrow and hope this comes to an end. more

Perfect in every way! 9/28/2006

What more can I say? But, I realize I should offer more detail: Great doctor - friendly, thorough, helpful, resourceful. Office staff is also friendly and helpful. I always feel welcome and even at home when I go for my visits. Strangely enough, I LOOK FORWARD to them. Can't recommend this place highly enough! more

Forget the Rest, Head to the Basement... 5/11/2006

I scoured this mall and sure, there are allot of interesting things to be had if you are willing to pay the prices they are asking which I felt were a bit much. Then I came upon the newly renovated basement and was blown away! The prices were extremely reasonable and the stuff was just what my place needed. Since then, I have haunted this joint weekly out of fear I may miss the deal of a lifetime for new stuff arrives very often. It is one of the few times I have been to a mall and encountered the dealer who was very friendly and flexible. Great Stuff, Give Me More!!!! more

Local & Good Service 11/23/2005

I have been using West Seattle Optix and Dr. Damian Gormley for my eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses for the past several years and have been very pleased with the service. I think their prices are probably pretty competitive, but I like that it is a small, locally-owned business and is conveniently located at the Junction, right next to Easy Street Records. more

get me some glasses 8/19/2005

This place has been my source for contacts and glasses for the past 10 years at least. Dr. Gromely is a very nice and smart optomitrist who is really up on the current technologies. They are open through the week and on saturdays and don't usually have a problem getting you an appointment within a week. Their contacts and glasses, like all specialty shops are more costly than Costco, but insurance usually covers that. more
