i went to jd for highlights and a cut. he does a very good job at initially listening to what you want. but... my highlights came out yellow and my cut was okay, nothing special. i think that the color would have turned out much better had he actually paid attention and not kept answering his cell phone (5-6 times). the staff is very nice and the atmoshpere is very relaxed. i would recommend him, maybe he had a bad day. Fantastic staff! 1/29/2006

After months of searching, I finally found Gordon at Joseph Michael's do do my hair for my August wedding. I wanted a 1930's esque 'do and NO ONE in Chicago knows how to do finger waves! Except for Gordon, who did a beautiful job! He was very pleasant and understood exactly what I wanted. I got so many compliments on my hair that I will have to find a reason to go back to have him do it again. The price was very reasonable, under $100, which is far less than I expected to pay. One of the best I've ever had... 1/28/2006

First of all, the service was excellent. From the time we arrived till our departure, we were treated with hospitality and an excess of pampering. Joseph Michael's truly knows what individuals want and expect when they visit a spa. From the plush furniture to the fridge of beverages at your disposal-I felt right at home. I received the Hot Stone Massage and Danny was my therapist. All I can say is, WOW!. He was excellent. If you really want your body worked out and I mean every ache or pain, ask for him. Great Haircut! 10/7/2005

I went to Joseph Michael's in June. I was greeted by a handshake from my stylist. I had Brian cut my hair, he is a Bumble and Bumble educator and worked in NY.He was wonderful! I had my hair washed first and wow! My shampoo was more like massage. He asked me what I like and dislike, what I had in mind, and then gave me his opinions of what he would like to do. I have long hair and made it a point that I just wanted to add some texture and movement. He cut very carefully, also asking if it was ok so far. It was the longest haircut I've ever had! It took about an hour. The end result was great! My only complaint was he had another client booked for the same time and had to stop for 10mins to consult with her. Very apologetic though. JD works magic! 9/27/2005

I waited for over 6 months to re-highlight my hair after my last salon over processed it. I was VERY nervous. The roots had grown out 3 inches and the ends were extremely brittle. I thought to myself, "If I get my hair highlighted without cutting half of my hair off, will I burn it off???". I look awful with short hair!!! I arrived at Joseph Michaels expecting the worst. When JD greeted me and listened to my hair story, he made feel completely comfortable and at ease with his plan. Mission accomplished - my hair is beautiful! - Soft, shiny, and the color is amazing. All I can say is he worked his magic. Even my coworker noticed this morning!!!! I'll never visit another hairstylist. Even if I move away - it'll be well worth the trip! Lauren for color! 9/22/2005

I came across Joseph Michael's website by accident, and I am so glad! Not that there aren't plenty of salons in the city that are good, but to find one where you don't feel intimidated is rare. The girls at the front desk are really nice and fun. Then I realized during my consultation that I was with the actual educator for their color line-Lauren(who is do freakin cute) that they convinced to work at the salon a day or so a week. Oh my god, can I tell you how great my color is? On the off chance- I asked for a manicure while my color sat and saw Neung, who was so fun and good! I have been around long enogh to know that there is no perfect bliss, so I will definitely be back to Joseph Michael's and report again on my next-already scheduled visit! Renata is the Best! 8/25/2005

Renata is the absolute BEST skin care specialist I've ever been to. I recently had a facial with Renata - and unlike other facials - I did not break out at all or experience any skin irritation. Plus, I'm getting married in less than two months and I had some sun damage (brown spots, tan lines) to take care of. I went to three dermatologists, tried bleaching cream, etc. and NOTHING worked until Renata! After a series of Floracide treatments (a total of six peels) all of my sun damage is completely gone!! I could not be happier with Renata - she is truly the most amazing skin care professional I've ever seen. I would HIGHLY recommend her! more

spyro...spectacular 8/20/2005

i walked into the joseph michael salon...with a BAD haircut and small...hope that it could be salvaged...wanting to find some ... remnant and regain a sense of me.....i needed help.... i sat in spyro's chair.for my consultation.....he did not look hopeful....but continued on....he brought brian..one of the stylists over .... they both touched and observed my hair..its shape..the movement...and discussed....and finally agreed they were able to work with what i had... thank god. i returned for my appointment...and began a fabulous journey into the world of great lengths.....hair extensions.....a true gift to oneself....... luxurious and oh so extravagant .....but the results are priceless...... spyro's intuitive knowledge of matching the color...the length ..to me... my hair and my personality...is magical... he is a true artist... If you're even just thinking about trying hair extensions, I would recommend no one besides Spyros - he is wonderful. I have very fine hair, and the extensions he put in gave me the beautiful, voluminous hair I've always dreamed of. What really impressed me is the time he took to ensure that the hair colors were properly matched (I have highlights). Spyros is not only talented and meticulous about his work, he also has a great personality that makes every visit something I look forward to. I highly recommend calling for an appointment. Experienced Stylists & Excellent Service 8/9/2005

I have been going to Joseph Michael's Hair Salon for the past 15 years predominantly for Hair Cuts and Color. My stylist, Patrick Russo, is amoung the best. Every hair cut and hair color that Patrick has done for me has been excellent. Patrick knows what looks best with the shape of my face and what type of cut works best with my hair. I am always receiving compliments on my hair cuts and color and refer many people to Patrick. I have also used Joseph Michaels for manicures, pedicures and waxing. All their professionals in these areas do a great job! The staff at the Salon is always polite and professional. I highly recommend this salon as well as my stylist, Patrick. more

I love my cut! 8/3/2005

This was my first time at Joseph Michaels and I will definitetly be coming back. Laura gave me an awesome cut, she made my frizzy damaged hair shiny and beautiful. It was nice beccause she really made me feel comfortable by asking me lots of questions about what I wanted exactly. She also knew what would look good on my face, therefore I left with some new swept bangs and I love them! I've been going to Joseph Michaels for years, staff has changed over but they are doing something right because it is consistently an overall wonderful experience. From the greeting at reception to departure, every moment is wonderful. It feels like home. I would not call this an upscale salon. If you're looking for five star spa-like environment, this isn't it. But the prices aren't either. The prices have consistenly been average or below average for the Gold-Coast/Mag Mile pricing but services rival those just the same! You will not be disappointed! Considering extensions? I highly recommend Spyros Petros, he's simply the best in the biz. From the first minute of the consultation to his application of the last extension, Spyros gives you his total professionalism and undivided attention. I have very fine, short hair and when Spryos was finished...voila! I had a full head of gorgeous, wavy blonde hair I thought impossible (he uses Great Lengths extensions which are fantastic!) Best Skin Care 6/26/2005

Ask for Renata!!! She is fantastic. She took my skin from drab to glowing in less than six weeks with a combination of microderm abrasions and facials and helped me secure a modeling contract . If she tells you to use a product, just do it because she is telling you because it works not to upsale. The rest of the staff is great as well because they don't act pretentious instead they smile and remeber your name! If you need a spa this is it. When your face glows you'll be glad you saw Renata. more

Incredible cut and color by Patrick 6/14/2005

A good friend of mine has been going to Patrick for years. After many disappointments with other stylists, I started to go to Patrick around two years ago. He gives an incredible cut--really listens to what you want and delivers. His color is amazing. I started with highlights, which didn't have the severe line of grow out that often can happen. Now I do all-over color (I'm starting to go gray) and he has captured my natural color so much so that I sometimes forget that it's actually colored. Besides excellent cuts and color, Patrick makes the whole experience fun & relaxing. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else at this point despite living an hour away. more

Leland's perfect haircut! 6/3/2005

I have searched all over this great city for the perfect haircut. Finally, I found it! From the moment I sat in her chair I was completely confident I was getting exactly what I wanted. She was very attentive and styled my hair to my personality. I talked and she listened, and I left the salon with a very stylish and savvy doo. Thank you Leland, and I will be recommending you to all the fashion forward people I know. I was also very pleased with the sevice I received at the front desk. The receptionist were very friendly and accomidationg...not snobby or rude like other salons in town.
