After living in Los Angeles for years, it was so difficult finding a new stylist in a new city. I've had lots of referrals but ended up with mullets and frankly just not great hair cuts until I was referred to Charles! Charles gave me an incredible cut - I have never had more compliments in my life on a hair style and the color is so rich and also complimented constantly. It has taken me 3 years of trying new hairstylists and I'm so glad that my search is over now that I have Charles in my life. Aside from his incredible talent, he is a lovely lovely kind person with a huge heart. Another thing, for a high end salon, I love the friendliness of the staff - everyone is very nice. more

i have been to michelle a few times now and i think she is the best stylist i have ever been to! she listens to what i want and tells me when it wont work! we work together to find a cut that is stylish,easy and will also look good on me! she's great w/ color too! go see her! more

I found the best hair colorist in Chicago! He really cares about his work and wants you to look your best. He took into account my skin coloring and what I wanted and came up with the perfect look. My hair was also dead from frying it with a straightener so he blow-dryed and trimmed my hair and put in this color conditioning/shine enhancer stuff that stays in your hair for a month all for free! He was so fun to talk to as well. The salon also has complimentary starbucks coffee, wine, ect. Everyone was super nice and helpful. They carry good product lines too. I won't go anywhere else now. more

Almost my entire family does hair. I have been spoiled my whole life with people to take care of my hair and keep it looking great. I love my hair. I recently moved away from all of my family and decided it was time to move on and find a new stranger to style my hair. Just before Thanksgiving I thought I had found a good place to go...BUT...my hair was butchered! As soon as I got home my boyfriend - in a craze to calm me down- stumbled across Joseph Micheal's Salon. Even though I was crying, I called Joseph Micheal's in a panic on a Saturday night around 6pm just after I ran out of the bad salon. Not only did they get me in on Sunday at noon to fix my hair, but Charles did such a great job and he made me regain the confidence in both him and myself that I had lost. What a great experience I had. Charles gave me the best hair color that I have ever received. All of my friends tell me it looks natural and not treated. He had some great suggestions for me. I live in Colorado. I will definitely make an effort to get back to Chicago several times a year to have Charles do his magic. I would recommend him to anyone. more

I never do this report thing on my experiences. But this is one experience that holds exception. I got great length extensions done by Spyro Petros and I really want to recommend him because my experience was that superb! I've had extensions before and they completely damaged my hair. The previous hair stylist put me in a position where I actually needed extensions, rather than doing it for fashion. Talk about a bad weave job! When she removed them, she literally cut off part of my hair with the weave leaving my hair uneven and the ends weak. My hair was much shorter after the weave, than before. From this experience, I vowed, no more weaves...and no more hair stylists! Seriously! I said I would do my own hair going forward, at least then I knew what I would get. But one day I was surfing the internet and read about Spyro. So finally, I called and he was so patient with me. I gotta admit, I was the pre-client from hell with the plethora of questions I had for him. When I heard of the price, I thought absolutely not! But then when I researched Great Lengths on my own and discovered this protein bond is actually good for my hair. I figured I would try it. Couldn't possibly have made my hair condition any worse. (I really should have taken before and after photo's to show you all.) This man made me look and feel like a lady again. The hair matches perfectly in color and texture. Being interacial in origin...I have that "in between hair"...you know the tangly tightly curl kind of hair! That takes only someone of pure patience to flat iron straight. Well, needless to say, this man had the patience of a Saint. He dealt with my non-trustingness of his abilities and still did a wonderful job. I mean he even took the time to part my hair even to get them all aligned perfectly. I think it goes without saying, I will go back to Spyro again and again. I recommend that you do also. I am a new customer to Joseph Michael's as of 3 weeks ago and as everyone knows going to a new salon and hairdresser can be a stressful experience. I was quickly put at ease with the service from the initial phone call and then my experience. Charles was the hairdresser I chose and he was everything and more than I expected. Most importantly he is an experienced and seasoned hairdresser but combined with his personal care taking and understanding what it means to provide outstanding customer service is what gave both Charles and the salon my 5 star rating. Joseph Michaels is my favorite salon in Chicago. My mom and I have been coming there for years. Spyros Petros is the best hair stylist I have ever come across. His haircuts are top notch - always up to date - and no one can do extensions so beautifully. They are so natural and so amazing. I would not let another stylist touch my hair! I have had almost every kind of hair extensions, but great lengths are the best!! I waited until I got my extensions removed before I could leave a comment because every other kind of hair extension has done extreme damage to my hair over time. I had my first set of great lengths May thru Nov, in fact until 4 days ago. SPYROS put them in and took them out with extreme care, he is a PERFECTIONIST!! When he took them out my hair was healthier & longer than when he put them in, and it looked great! However, I love looonngg hair, and had him put them in again today. I thought that my hair couldn't look any better than the first time that he worked his magic, but this time it looks EVEN BETTER!! He takes extra time and special care to match up each strand color perfectly, and he has a great eye for colors and what looks best together. If you're thinking about hair extensions, definitely spend the extra money that great lengths cost because they are the BEST QUALITY, LONGEST LASTING(6 months for me!!), EASIEST to work with, Most NATURAL Looking hair extensions that you can get, and go to SPYROS @ Joseph Michael's because he is the great lengths god!! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! I went to Spyro Petros for extensions and he was nuts! Every time I asked him a question about the extensions price he got SUPER mad and crazy! I got them done twice and he raised the price the second time by $300 and when I asked why he got super crazy mad and acted all huffy like I had no right to ask. When I inquired about great lengths extensions and exactly how much I would be getting he got really mad. Then he insisted I give him half down for the hair before I even got to see the purchase and make sure I was getting all the hair since it was so expensive. I don't think the customer should cover the purchase of hair before they get to make sure they get all they pay for!!! He pulled on my hair when he did the extensions and kept complaining about how much his back hurt which made me feel awkward and uncomfortable. He had another girl wash my hair and then had me dry it myself before he put the extensions in. He charged $1650 for 150 extensions and didn't cut or color my hair! I heard from another girl who got her extensions through him that he put barely any hair in compared to what he said she'd be getting then wanted another $500 to put more hair in! She ended up going to another stylist who does great lengths and the stylist put more hair in for free in order for her to switch over to her as a new client. He is a rip off artist and a bitchy complaining stylist and I recommend you run the other direction before you enter his salon HELL! AHHHHHH! more

My stylist - Charles - was the most personable I've met in his field. He was professional, he had an opinion to share (very rare quality even at the expensive places), and he was very attentive to ensure my experience would be a good one. I had never been to Joseph Michael's before, but I have been to several of their competitors, both 'salon-pricey' and the more affordable "maintenance" haircut places. Most places just want to cut and move on to the next customer, all while trying to push their product on you. NONE of this happened here, and maybe because Charles is so good at his job, but he definitely sold me! I'd return to Joseph Michael's without a doubt, and perhaps try some of the other services they offer. On my first visit I received a haircut and partial highlights. LOVE the highlights - can't stop smiling when I check the hair in the mirror. And, today I receive two compliments on the cut/style - can't beat that! Lastly, the hair washing was a fabulous experience... head massage was the best I've had. Thanks Charles! I went to Joseph Michaels for the first time last week and received the absolute BEST cut and color I have ever gotten. Michelle understood exactly what I wanted (even though I couldn't completely articulate my needs). She perfectly interpereted what I wanted and boy, did she deliver!! The entire staff was welcoming, professional and gracious. Great customer service and a great value! I could not be happier and am recommending Michelle to everyone I know. I have followed Charles through his journey to find the perfect fit at a Salon. He has arrived at Salon 161 downtown on Michigan and Erie. He said that Joseph Michael's and Natural Elements were wonderful learning experience's but he found his favoriote salon ever. I thought I would pass this on to all his guests who where wondering where he went. I really think that Salon 161 will be great for him, I know it was for me! I started seeing Michelle after my stylist moved away. I was nervous to switch stylists because I really liked what my other stylist was doing with my hair. I had been going to him for a long time. Michelle understood how I felt and was very patient w/ me. She asked me a lot of questions and really took the time to find out what my needs were and took it all into consideration before we began the service. I have since been to Michelle a few times now. I love what she has done for my hair! It is better than ever and I will continue to see her. If only I had been going to her all along! Who knew my old stylist leaving would be such a posative thing! If you are nervous about a change or you are looking for a new stylist, michelle is your girl. more

My husband and I spent the long weekend in Chicago, hailing from the east coast. After several relaxing massage treatments at the James Hotel I decided to get my hair styled. The receptionist here suggested JM .. My overall impression is this salon is top-notch. The receptionists were warm and professional and the setting was soothing (considering the amount of business going on).. but CHARLES is the reason I?m writing my first Citysearch review. He?s a truly gifted stylist. He had a sweet twinkle in his eye when we first met and we slipped into easy conversation. He listened well to what I wanted and explained each step along the way. I ended up with piecy but glam style that is simply THE BEST I?ve ever had ? anwhere ? New York, DC, Boston??. Leaving the salon, I could say I almost felt celebrity- like! My only hopefully constructive criticism is that the styling area could use a deep clean. Nothing an all-hands-on-deck clean-a-thon and paintfest wouldn?t solve. Ps. If you have frizzy or textured hair you must ask Charles about his no-towel drying technique. It will transform your hair into lovely ringlet curls! I've been seeing Maggie regularly for the past 5 years and could not be happier with the quality of her work - - my nails have never been healthier or looked better! Maggie is a skilled professional with considerable nail care expertise; the result is the BEST looking nails and longest lasting manicures and pedicures I"ve ever experienced! I frequently get compliments on my nails and have referred many people to Maggie who have also become regulars! On top of all that, Maggie is a delight to spend time with - always a highlight of my week to go to the salon! Pros: Prompt appointments; perfect service! Cons: Prices keep increasing more

I have had two sets of extensions in the last year prior to Spyros. The first set was SoCap and they proceeded to start falling out the second day and continued to fall out rapidly. After a month, half of them were gone. Quite embarrassing to be talking to someone when an extension falls out!! The stylist felt bad so she said she would replace them with the metal extend tube extensions. Well, the tubes were not only very visible to other people, THESE fell out too. I had heard of Spyros on this site and went for a consultation. I thought...if these don't stay in, I give up on extensions. Maybe my hair is too "slippery". Anyway, it has been 2 weeks and they have not budged! I am soooo happy. He made them look really natural and the color is spot on. It is expensive anywhere you go, but with Spyros you know they will stay put making it more cost effective. The extensions he put in were Great Lengths, by the way. Karen more

I read the reviews in advance and went by to check out the salon and oh my God! What a bunch of snotty creepy people! I couldnt even get passed the receptionist's better than thou attitude and the Stylists and manicurists had this icy stare they all made me feel very uncomfortable. I never felt so judged in my life. Ok I am a heavy person, but oh wow the looks up and down and the attitude when they gave me the pricing like I would never be able to afford it any way, turned me off so bad. I couldnt run out of there fast enough. I want to hurl just thinking of that disgusting experience. Maybe because i had a discount clothing bag on me and I wasnt dressed up and sache'ing in with l the full high designer outfit that is why. Whatever I am sickened.
