One of the reasons we decided to use Sweet Memories Bakery for our wedding was because they offered to mail us a fresh cake topper for free for our 1st year anniversary. Since we would be moving some during our first year of marriage, and not too keen on moving a frozen cake topper, this was a key selling point for us. Well, it would have been great if they were able to plan properly.\r
\r
First of all, we called three weeks prior to our 1st year anniversary to place the order. At that time, Sweet Memories did confirm that the cake topper was free, but also told us that it would cost us $50.00-$60.00 to ship it. That was something that was not mentioned before. \r
\r
We decided to go ahead and have it shipped, explaining that our anniversary was on a holiday and they might need to ship it earlier. We then called one week before our anniversary to confirm the order and to make sure that the cake would arrive either on time or earlier. We were told that everything was alright. Then we called three days before our anniversary to check on the order and were told that it was going to be delivered two days late due to the Memorial Day weekend. \r
\r
While we understand shipping requirements, we had told them that we would be happy to receive it early so that we would have it by our anniversary if the holiday weekend would cause a problem. What makes this whole situation worse is that they must have known that it would have been late, yet they never called us to tell us that. We had to call them to find out the bad news. \r
\r
In the end, by the time we found out, nothing could be done. We decided to cancel our order since it wouldn't arrive by our anniversary. Not exactly what we had in mind. Overall, a good wedding cake on the day but poor service for following up on other commitments. A long story short: poor planning, failed promises, and lack of courage to face their customers.
