Best

It has been months since my wedding day and people are still gushing over how amazing the cake was. Thank you Sweet Memories for doing such an amazing job! The cake was delicious!...

Worst

The one nice thing I can say was that my wedding cake tasted very good. But, that is where it ends. The cake looked nothing like what was discussed with Donna. The colors were wro...

Avoid like the plague 2/1/2008

I have had nothing but aggravation from this bakery. The person that I spoke to (I think she's new) on the phone was extremely rude and juvenile and didn't know how to answer any of my questions. The cakes that I saw in the front of the bakery were pretty, but nothing exciting. I tasted some of their cake at the Bridal Show at the State Fairgrounds, and it was dry and unappealing. It tasted like cake mix. A friend of mine got her wedding cake from this bakery, and she mentioned that the owner, Ford, was very short with her and seemed like she just wanted her money and didn't care about her as a person. I won't be getting my wedding cake from this bakery. It seems that the bakery could step it up quite a bit in organization and customer service. Pros: good location Cons: pricey, rude, unorganized, messy more

Very tasty and beautiful design! 10/29/2007

This is my fist time writing a review for a business, however, after reading the negative reviews below, I felt compelled to do so in defense of the wonderful service I personally received from Sweet Memories Bakery. We worked with the owner, Donna Ford and her staff who created a wonderful cake exactly like I described to them at the time of my appointment. I felt confident when I left that Sweet Memories knew exactly what I wanted and did not feel another meeting was necessary. Donna delivered exactly what she told me she would . My guests are still raving about how unique and tasty the cake was for my husband's 60th birthday party. I would definitely use this bakery again! \r more

Avoid this bakery if you want your perfect wedding cake!!! 10/21/2007

I went to a cake taste testing they had in Raleigh. Ordered the cake a put a deposit on it that day. Spoke with the owner and she had drawn up exactly what we wanted, wrote down the colors and everything. I e-mailed and called several times to confirm the date. Finally after several calls the owner answered and said she had some e-mail problems but not to worry the cake would be ready Friday afternoon for pick up and I went back over it with her everything we asked for. When I went to pick it up on friday (the day before the wedding) I went in and spoke to an assistant that was there and she said she called me that morning and left a message on my machine that they didn't know what colors i wanted and therefore the cake was not ready. I demanded to speak to the owner and I also want to point out that they had my cell phone number and never once tried to call that AND when I got back home I have caller ID and there was no calls from them and NO MESSAGE!!! The owner told me that she didn't know what colors I wanted and therefore didn't even decorate the cake. She told me she would have it exactly as I ordered it to give them 30 mins to do it. I gave them the 30 mins as I had no other choice. When I came back the cake was not as I had ordered it. I had ordered flowers cascading down from the middle down and around the cake... what I got was 3 flowers under the top layer and a flower here and there. Of course she would not take any money off and so here I was the desperate bride that could not get a cake made that night before the wedding and she already had a deposit of 100.00 so I had to pay the full amount for a cake that was nothing like I ordered!!! There were no apologies and they were very rude and did not want to help. The cake tasted pretty good but that doesn't help that when I look at my wedding pictures you see this plain cake that anyone could have made. I hope this review helps as I know the owner will never be able to fix what she did. Pros: Cakes on display were beautiful Cons: Cakes they actually sell to people for their wedding not so great! more

Absolutely Wonderful Cakes 8/22/2007

The last three reviews complain that Sweet Memories Bakery had horrible customer service. I can agree with that to some extent; however, Donna Ford is great. She did our wedding cake and our groom's cake for our wedding this month. We tasted cake at many bakeries but the cake here tasted the best so we choose to use them. We set up a meeting with her and discussed colors, themes, flowers, and my wedding dress. She then emailed me a drawing of what the cake would look like. \r Also, I told Donna that I wanted the grooms cake to have a tropical UNC Tarheels theme, and that is all I gave her to go on. \r Both of the cakes turned out gorgeous and delicious. I will use them for any other special occasion and I highly recommend any bride to use them. Two of my friends are getting married next year and they are going to have Sweet Memories make their cakes also. Pros: Beautiful and delicious cakes more

Poor planning 5/25/2007

One of the reasons we decided to use Sweet Memories Bakery for our wedding was because they offered to mail us a fresh cake topper for free for our 1st year anniversary. Since we would be moving some during our first year of marriage, and not too keen on moving a frozen cake topper, this was a key selling point for us. Well, it would have been great if they were able to plan properly.\r \r First of all, we called three weeks prior to our 1st year anniversary to place the order. At that time, Sweet Memories did confirm that the cake topper was free, but also told us that it would cost us $50.00-$60.00 to ship it. That was something that was not mentioned before. \r \r We decided to go ahead and have it shipped, explaining that our anniversary was on a holiday and they might need to ship it earlier. We then called one week before our anniversary to confirm the order and to make sure that the cake would arrive either on time or earlier. We were told that everything was alright. Then we called three days before our anniversary to check on the order and were told that it was going to be delivered two days late due to the Memorial Day weekend. \r \r While we understand shipping requirements, we had told them that we would be happy to receive it early so that we would have it by our anniversary if the holiday weekend would cause a problem. What makes this whole situation worse is that they must have known that it would have been late, yet they never called us to tell us that. We had to call them to find out the bad news. \r \r In the end, by the time we found out, nothing could be done. We decided to cancel our order since it wouldn't arrive by our anniversary. Not exactly what we had in mind. Overall, a good wedding cake on the day but poor service for following up on other commitments. A long story short: poor planning, failed promises, and lack of courage to face their customers. more

Rude People 9/17/2006

I ordered my son's first birthday cake from them and it was awesome. It tasted great and looked really cool. The problem?? The people that work there are not nice at all. I emailed my order, which they could not find and they seemed bothered to take the order by phone. The cake was $85 plus $10 for a little cake for my son. When I went to pick it up, the person working wouldn't even help me carry it to the car or hold the door for me. My husband went there to pick up a prepared dessert for Valentine's Day and no one wanted to help him either. Their product is great but their customer service means I will NEVER order from them again. I'll go to Once in a Blue Moon bakery from now on or even Harris Teeter. I am not sure why they are going to be on Oprah but I am sure they were probably nicer to her??? Pros: Really cool, great tasting cake. Cons: Very expensive, mean people that aren't grateful for your patronage. more

Horrible Customer Service 8/9/2006

This bakery, while their cakes are pretty and usually pretty good too have HORRIBLE customer service. I have used them three times now and it has gotten worse with each time. The past experience that I had with them was earlier this month, Aug 06. My nephew was having a birthday party and my sister decided to go with SW to make the cake. They took down her credit card number THREE times and quoted her $56.00 for the cake. When I went to pick it up they claimed they didn't have the exp. date for the card so I gave them my card for ""just in case"" my sister didn't call back with the exp. date. She said she had given them the exp. date several times already but called them anyway and gave it again. The cake was mediocore, the design was not even close to what we expected it to be. A few days after the party SW billed MY credit card for 72.00. When my sister called them to see what the problem was they claimed the price had gone up because of the design and they didn't have an explanation as to why they billed the wrong card. After about 20 min on the phone they refused to refund the 16.00 difference and were very rude. DO NOT USE THEM! Pros: nice designs Cons: bad customer service more
