Best

I went into this friendly little bar a few months ago on my birthday. I had such a good time with Dave I just couldn't stay away. Since then I've gotten to know everyone. Dermot, ...

Worst

i thought the vibe was fun, but way too crowded everytime i have been. i thought it might thin out, but it's always a scene. better bars in the area with less crowds.

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/30/2012

I have been going to Spring Lounge for years A very cool bar never had a problem with any bouncer guess because I am older than dirt age 51. started going there when Adrian started working there. Cool bartenders Adrian , Jillian, and a lot of others! never seen a bad bartender or bouncer at Spring Lounge and the owner cool too. This is the the only bar where a sexy good looking women will hit on a older than dirt Black guy like me and where I feel confortable even though I am older than dirt!!!! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/20/2012

This is my first time reviewing because I'm usually not one to complain, but my experience here last night was so terrible I felt compelled to write. Let me start off by saying the bar itself (beer selection, ambiance, etc.) is nice, I have been there plenty of times before last night. That being said, the bar tender is incredibly rude and quickly becomes unreasonably angry and slapped a friend of mine across the face. After this, the bouncer decided to kick out anyone who came in with my friend, which I understand given the fact the bartender had just slapped my friend (even though this was unacceptable). I would have been fine with this, but the bouncer didn't tell me I was being kicked out nor did he give me a chance to walk out on my own. Instead, he picked me up from behind and body slammed me to the pavement. In trying to get up the bouncer picked me up and threw me down a second time. I was TWICE body slammed to the ground for doing absolutely nothing. My two other friends I was with received the same treatment. The sweater I was wearing is ruined, covered in blood. You might think that I probably deserved the treatment because I was an obnoxious drunk, but I promise this is not the case...I wouldn't waste my time with this review if that was the situation. Don't say I didn't warn you - DO NOT COME HERE if you expect the staff to treat you with basic respect. more

AWFUL!!!! 3/6/2010

This was my bar up until last week...I was denied entry because i tripped in my high heal shoe. They thought I was drunk and literally got my shoe stuck in a grate...but they treated me like I was autistic and would not even speak to me. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. And I use to spend about $100 a week in a bar tab. Not cool. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Pros: DO NOT GO HERE! Cons: DO NOT GO HERE more

Best bartenders in town 4/26/2008

I went into this friendly little bar a few months ago on my birthday. I had such a good time with Dave I just couldn't stay away. Since then I've gotten to know everyone. Dermot, Adrienne, Aaron, they're all the greatest. A good crowd, a great beer selection (leave room for shots of whiskey) great jukebox, and totally unpretentious. Just a great little bar in a great big city (something that's not so easy to find these days). Pros: Great service, great beers. Cons: Can get busy. Stay a little later for the real fun. more

Horrible bouncer 4/13/2008

Ok, so i've been to this place many times before and have always had a great time, until last night! Went with a couple girlfriends and one of my friends lost her ID on the way there, fell out of her pocket. The bouncer wouldn't let her in so she decided to go home. I waited outside with her to get a cab and when I came back to the door the bouncer wouldn't let me back in! Why? I have no idea. He just decided to make me stand in the cold by myself when the rest of my friends were all inside with MY beer! He was being being so rude and my other friend came to ask why I couldn't come back in and he then made her leave too. I'm sure you're thinking ""oh they were just drunk"", but this was our second stop for the night and we'd only had 2 drinks. There was no reason for that bouncer to treat us that way. Let's just say none of us will be going back! Pros: Nothing anymore Cons: Bouncer more

Cool, Chill Hang Out 12/28/2007

I stopped by Spring Lounge recently only because I was in the area. On the day that I stopped by, it was kinda empty but I'm assuming it's because it was close to the holidays and most ppl were out of town. Other times of the year that I've passed by, it's been packed. This is definitely my kinda hang out spot. They had a good selection of drinks (and beer... though I'm not a beer drinker), the music was at a volume where you didn't have to yell and the atmosphere was chill. Plenty of seating at the bar and at tables. The bartender was also friendly and quick to ask me what I wanted to drink. I will definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good hangout spot where you want to have a couple of drinks and relax with some friends after work. :) Pros: Decently priced drinks, fast service, nice hang out more

Great Lounge To Stop For a Few Drinks 12/26/2007

After reading some of these other reviews, I was very shocked. I just stopped in Spring Lounge for the first time on Christmas Eve for one drink and had a good time. I liked the wooden floors and bar stools, giving it that dive bar feel. However, the bar itself is very small. Most of the available seats are at tables throughout the bar. There was no bouncer there when I was there and the bartender seemed friendly. I know Adrienne (formerly from the Village Idiot) works here on the weekends and she's great! Drink prices were a little high, unless you enjoy PBR. They have $3 PBR here which is great, but all the other drinks here are a rip off in price. They have a downloadable internet jukebox, however the music selection already downloaded isn't that good. Yes, they did have a Johnny Cash, Lynryd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, and Hank Williams CD.....but in my opinion, everything else was just garbage pop music. This place works for a quick drink or two, but I wouldn't recommend it for an entire night out. Pros: $3 PBR, friendly bartender, not a trendy crowd Cons: all other drinks are expensive, bad jukebox more

RUINED MY BIRTHDAY! 12/17/2007

I was in NYC for my birthday with a bunch of girlfriends. We had eaten dinner around the corner and fell upon this hateful place. Not only were we eyeballed by everyone in the place but the bartender was so rude to my friend and got us kicked out of the bar. We ordered drinks and sat down, my friend went to order me an irish car bomb for my birthday and the bartender refused to serve her, we hadn't even finished one drink! He got in her face and was very hostile and abusive, he was yelling at her telling her to get the F#u%! out. Next thing we knew the bouncer came over and asked us to finish our drinks. I told him how rude the bartender had been and he agreed (he was yelling so loudly everyone in the bar stopped to watch) The bouncer escorted us out and then offered to by me a birthday cake because he felt so bad for ruining my birthday. I swear, next time I am in NYC I am going to go there, buy a beer, and throw it in that bartenders face. Cons: everything more

Still a worthy spot for a Cold One 7/29/2007

Since I've lived in Nolita over the last 8 years, the Spring Lounge has changed drastically.\r \r It used to be one of the low key pubs to meet some of the locals in the neighborhood. After 9-11 a lot of things changed, I think much of the contrived financial crowd figured out that nothing within a 10 block radius is over 6 stories. Also, the weak dollar has contributed to a lot of wealthier foreign residents. \r \r There are still some survivors of the money broom that sterilized the area. If you go on a idle Sunday night, Tues, and Weds you'll have a much friendlier paced evening. \r \r The weekends used to air out at 2AM. No more, you'll be getting shoved by contrived college students trying to fit their bill on mom and dad's credit card. They do have their uses, they can actually undersand the new juke box, an itune influenced monstrosity. \r \r But even if you can't hang with the late night creatures, it's still the best 4-6PM pub. Their palette of taps is well tailored and arguably the best in Manhattan. more

RUDE bouncer 1/21/2007

A group of my friends tried to meet some people at this bar. Even though the bar was not very crowded, the bouncer would not let us in. He did not give a reason and was very rude about it (I know what you're thinking - we were attractive and well dressed). more

NY Classic 11/15/2006

Simply great cold beer and no attitude. Its a must on a weekend afternoon, SIT BACK AT WATCH THE CITY GO BY. more

One of the Best Bars in NYC 8/24/2006

For the 2 years I lived in NYC i spent as much time as could at this bar. Michelle was great as was the rest of the staff whose names escape me. But they would always remember you and remember your drink of choice. Its got a great scene and some of the best pizza is right across the road. I am looking forward to coming back to this old haunt Pros: Great Service, Great Bar, good selections Cons: Adriene and Michelle never worked topless more

Best Friggin Bartenders in the World 6/13/2006

Well where do I begin, Dave, Dermott, and Adriene are the best bartenders in all of NYC. The lounge is great on the weekdays, a little crowded on the weekends, but none the less exciting. They always remember your name and drink. Something hard to do in this city. Music is great, company is great, and the firefighters are great. My roomate and I are always hanging in the bar seeing as we live right down the road. And who can resist a 3 dollar PBR. No one!!!! Pros: Awesome service, cheap beer, great music Cons: one bathroom more

Great Place 6/4/2006

One of the best bars's in Manhattan. Nice crowd, great service, good prices. Not an Irishbar mind you. But, I always go there to unwind. more

Too Crowded, Too Noisy 1/2/2004

Was there on a friday night. Too crowded, too noisy. Crowd wasn't 'trendy', just very young and NYU, so if you're about 22 years old, and willing to shout to be heard above the din, this is the spot for you. I've been here late in the afternoon on a weekday, and had a great time. I'd like to try a tuesday or wednsday night, but I've been completely turned off of going here on weekends. more

Too crowded, RUDE bouncer 9/13/2003

I went on a Saturday night and expected it to be crowded, but the rude crowd and rude bouncer ruined what could have been a good, cheap place to start the night out. I got pushed around, stepped on, and spilled on. The bouncer was more drunk than half of the customers. He had some kind of problem with my boyfriend and started shouting that he owned the whole block. When I tried to go back inside to get another bouncer to break them up, he pushed me! FYI, I'm a girl, half his size. I would NOT recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of other dive bars where you can find cheap draft beers, skip this one! Pros: cheap drinks, nice bartender Cons: crowded, rude crowd, rude bouncer more

surprisingly great spot 5/31/2003

Went there for the first time 2 months ago. Went again last night and Aldo remembered my name and my drink..That speaks volumes and I will be back again for sure...Great spot to hang with friend and have a cold one.. Pros: great service, friendly, inexpensive Cons: crowded more

Always a Decent Hang 1/22/2003

Always a pretty decent hang, whether you're up front on the little stools by the windows or in the back under the shark. The tables are stools are not the most comfortable, but hey, you're there to yip yap and drink, seating comfort isn't totally important. Good juke box, decent prices... plus Pomodoro pizza is a right across the street and is always welcomed in. more

cute but rude 11/27/2002

Not the place to go if your looking to meet someone or socialize. Everyone seems to already know each other. I never came across so many rude guys in my life. Its very crowded and I got tossed around without an excuse me from a single person. Pros: young crowd, good looking guys Cons: rude crowd, too crowded more

NYFD 10/13/2002

Lively crowd for sure, but that's what you get when you have the entire New York City Fire Department there on a Saturday night. Bar tender's ok, mixed drinks less than 6 bucks. All in all, not the place to spend the whole night, but okay to start. Pros: cheap drinks, fire safety Cons: crowded, lack of diversity more
