We had a great meal. Our car was broken into and we found out afterwards that Valet parking means public parking. Jeff the manager had no idea about their insurance. Insurance ...

Very Spanish, Great Value 2/2/2006

After having traveled in Spain I was very excited to try Solera. We LOVED it. The food was very authentic. As for the value, we found it to be quite reasonable. The portion sizes were larger than we've found at other tapas bars both in the US and in Spain. As for the sangria, we thought it was great. It is $35 for a pitcher, but it's twice as big as you would normally find. We did have to wait about 15 min past our reservation, but it was worth the wait. This restaurant is a great addition to the Twin Cities. Pros: Great Food, Lovley Design, Very Authentic Cons: Hard to get Res. more

Eat before you go! 1/22/2006

I'm so glad I tried Solera with the girls and didn't bring my husband. He would have made us go to another restaurant for dinner, right after ""dinner"" at Solera! Our server was very good, she helped us choose many good dishes, but they were all so tiny! There were four of us and sometimes we only got half a bite of each. We laughed every time the next round of plates was brought to our table, none of us had every seen such tiny portions! Our bill came to about $30 per person for food and we were all still hungry (FYI - we're all size 4 or 6 so it's not like we're used to eating huge amounts of food). I would recommend stopping by after a show at the Orpheum and not before, dessert was the only plate that had a decent amount of food on it. Pros: Location, Food, Service Cons: Portion size, Price, Portion Size more

Off night? Food was not good. 1/4/2006

I went to Solera tonight on the basis of the previous reviews. It's Wednesday and the place was mostly empty except for two tables and one person at the bar. After eating, I could see why. I ordered 4 plates. The pork ribs were tough, the asparagus lobo was too chewy with oversalted sauce, the scallops with serrano ham was extremely salty to the point of being nearly inedible. The duck with mushrooms was okay. Overall, It's like the cook was using the recipe without knowing the right proportions of the ingredients or how long to cook the food. I'm on business travel. I don't mind the prices, but the food was terrible. I can't imagine how it won a top award. On the upside, nice interior decor and the bartender/wait staff were attentive. more

Service and food was outstanding! 12/21/2005

My boyfriend and I had been to Solera several years ago for Valentine's Day and loved it! So, for his 30th birthday celebration, he decided he wanted a group of friends to dine together at Solera. Our group was quite large (18+) and had a difficult time deciding how to order. Our server kindly took charge and recommended that the chef choose dishes. The chef did a fabulous job of choosing dishes to suit vegetarians, non-vegetarians, and various food allergies in our group. The service was prompt and the dishes were divine! Everyone left happy (which is a huge compliment to Solera considering 4 people in our group have lived in Spain)! Pros: service, food quality, wine list more

A Mixed Bag 10/18/2005

Great decor. Nice, cozy booths for 2. Small servings for sampling. Drinks a bit pricey. Menu requires food dictionary. OUR EXPERIENCE: God help you if the waitstaff somehow mixes up on who is supposed to be waiting on you! We were left stranded LITERALLY for the first 30 minutes after being seated during our first visit ... no drinks, no server, no ""your server with be right with you,"" no nothing but a busboy who poured water. Before storming out, I complained to the manger, and things could only improve from there. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and we had a good visit after all. The restaurant even picked up our bill! However, I will probably not go back just because we WERE left, completely unattended to, for a full thirty minutes after being seated :( Maybe just a fluke, but once bitten, twice shy. Pros: Decor, Cozy booths, Sample portions Cons: Pricey drinks, Mystery menu more

Great Girls Night Out! 10/3/2005

Great time had by all. I was in a group of 8 for a friend's bridal party. Our waiter Steve was awesome. Very helpful with menu and wine list. Food was great, lots of different things to try, which is fun. We went with all the Chef's recommendations. Spent more than I would going to somewhere like Applebees but well worth it. Good food, very fun atmosphere, great waiter. Would highly recommend for a special occasion, romantic date, small group get together, etc. more

Good food if you're callista flockhart 9/19/2005

The place is for the people that are all about image. I'm not, so that's probably why I didn't care for it, plus they could have just as well slapped me in the face when I got the bill. In all actuallity the food was very good. I went with a very large group of family so I was able to try many different things. Some things were excellent and other were still very good but with the small portions I was only able to get a bite of each dish. If that's the kind of dining you like then I recommend it. If you're looking for value and great food go somewhere else. Pros: Food, decor Cons: tiny portions, arm and a leg cost, value for the $ more

Great food, Snotty Service. Kind of dead Fri eve 8/7/2005

Friday night. By phone they said ""hour wait,"" but @ 9:30 plenty of tables, inside & out. Food was great. Grilled sausages, spicy beef tenderloin (not spicy but good), baked egg/sausage, grilled veggies (YUM) = all outstanding. However, service (patio-main level & upstairs) = terrible. Upstairs, I went to the bar after not being noticed for 15 minutes. Downstairs, the server didn't know about wines, so when we asked for suggestions she said she'd ask, but she didn't. Finally, we asked another server to retrieve wine person, & a very friendly wine guy then helped select a great bottle ($28). Warning - they're all Spanish wines you've probably never heard of. Their wine list is unhelpful. Beware - after 10 pm it's ""late"" menu = limited--only 2 desserts. Solera was pretty dead after 10pm. The food was more of a value than other reviewers mentioned, but service is weak spot. Pros: Food Cons: Slow & Snotty Service, Dead--on a Sat night!, Unhelpful Wine List more

Leaves a lot to be desired 7/9/2005

The seating was prompt, but the rooftop was not serving food. Our server was rude and knew nothing about the wine. In fact, she recommended a white wine that turend out being red. The waitress checked back after an hour - and made a rude comment under her breath as she walked away. Our food was slow in arriving, due in large part because the staff could not deliver the tapas to the correct tables. We received at least 3 incorrect orders and saw the same happen at the table across from us. The quality of the food left a lot to be desired and was over priced. This is certainly not a place for dinner because the portions are extremely small. If you're looking for friendly service and good food, this is not the right place. Solera offers a place to be seen with an over priced drink. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Service, Quality, Price more

This world traveler thinks Solera is wonderful! 5/26/2005

I see a few less than complimentary reviews here, one from a self-proclaimed world traveler, and here's what I can tell you--EVERYONE thinks they know tapas. And guess what? It's different wherever you go, so LIVE with it! Solera does a beautiful job with taste, presentation, variety, service, atmosphere and wine selection. Why do you think they were one of Zagat's Top 10 restaurants IN THE WORLD for 2005??? Pros: Variety, Fun items to share, Atmosphere Cons: A bit pricey more
