Visited SAMMY's today and must say the ambiance is great the food is incredible but the waiter by the name of JEFFREY made us feel not welcomed. Did not have his name tag on like his co-workers, wonder why? Would go there again but not serviced by same waiter, hope management reads this. more

Visited Sammy Yesterday for the first time and I just had to say I had a fantastic meal and the staff was so nice. It was my son's sixteenth birthday and they couldn't do enough for us..I can't wait to go back. more

Ambiance Is Great. Food & Drinks even better.. My wife and I had cocktails and dinner at Sammy's on City Island a few days ago and as always we were very happy with the experience. The Restaurant has been around since the 60's and looks like it opened yesterday. This is a fun place. I am the 3rd generation of my family going to Sammy's and were working on the 4th.. more

I am not a great letter writer but I just had to say that I recently dined at Sammy's on City Island and had a fantastic evening. The staff and food were five star as well as the decor was so cool, I felt like I was eating at one of those great feeling Disney theme restaurants. I must add that my wife and I shared a 5lb lobster that was the best I ever had. more

We were a party of 20 and purposely ordered 20 different appetizers and 20 different entrees as is the custom when our club eats out.. I just could not believe it that this was the first time after meeting at countless restaurants over the last 5 years that every single dish was a winner. What a great restaurant, Sammy's is on the top of our list. We are all planning to have another meeting there next month..This will be the first time we have return to a restaurant for our club meeting.. more

I am a huge BBQ fan since my college days in Austin Texas. Last week my friend invited me to dinner up on City Island at Sammy's Fishbox. I would have rather gone to a BBQ place but since I was a guest it wasn't my choice.. To my surprise Sammy's had the best Baby Back Ribs I have ever eaten, They were succulent and tender off the bone. I had a Rib and whole lobster combination that was so good. The restauarant had a wonderful vibe as well, can't wait to go back.. more

I first came here in the 1980's but haven't been back because I now live out of state. Went back this weekend with some guests and it's every bit as good as ever. My favorite is the fried combination platter, with one serving you can eat yourself to overflowing and still take home enough for a full meal for another day. The reason you come here is for large portions of great tasting fresh seafood, what else is there to say? Sure the entrees run $35 - $40 but you get what you pay for. I've never met anyone who's been here, who didn't want to go back again and again. And the valet parking is free. more

One the worst restaurant experiences I ever had. The food was not good at all. I ordered the fillet of sole and boy was that a mistake.the batter they use is pretty bad. My daughter threw up in a disgusting bathroom half way through the meal. she had the crab legs with the shell steak. The waiter was nice but never around. I felt like I was being robbed when I had to pay the ridiculously over priced bill. Giving this place 5 stars is a complete joke !! more

Sammy's is the best seafood restaurant in New York. The whole Lobster Newburg was simple but awesome tasting. The huge portion of fresh grilled fish of the day is a bargain, but the crab legs are the absolute best! Decor and service is really funky and cozy, more

I love seafood and when we go out my husband and I always go seafood. I don't know of any other restaurant that that matches the quality and portion size that Sammy's affords us. I love Fresh fish and they have a daily list of at least 12 types of fresh fish. they recently had artic char, a fish I never had before, it was fantastic. I had it cajun style. My husband and daughter shared one of Sammy's famous Crab feasts, . It was enough for us to have for dinner the following evening. I highly recommend this restaurant if you love fresh seafood, giant portions and a fun staff, who always treats us right. more

I went here for new years eve and was pleasantly surprised. Food was great. and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The large crackling fireplace was warm and inviting . I can't wait to return. It was a real surprise finding such a wonderful restaurant on City Island in the Bronx..I am so glad I watched the movie City Island with Andy Garcia otherwise I would never have thought to visit City Island. more

Always outstanding. The raw bar is a good as they get, supported by a great staff and very fresh seafood. I consistently rate the oysters, little necks as well as the Shrimp cocktail ""the best I've ever had"". I f you get there late, be prepared to wait. It's worth it. more

When I moved to NYC a few years ago from Maine, Being a seafood lover, I tried at least 50 seafood restuarants in the five boro's and none of them warranted a return visit except Sammy's on City Island. My wife Julie and I go to Sammy's at least once a week religiously..The food is stupendous and the staff treat us like royality..especially Leslie and Steve ,,My favorite dish is the !/2 of 3lb lobster stuffed with crab meat..Julie always tries a new dish and is always delighted with her choice.. more

Honestly I must have ordered the wrong meal last night...got the lobster tail and filet mignon...the filet mignon was dry and flavorless, the lobster tail was a nice sized portion, good but not great. Fried calamari for appetizer was rubbery and lacked flavor; I've definitely had better. My diet coke with lemon honestly tasted like Windex with sugar. Worst of all was the cockaroach crawling above my right shoulder on the booth wall. The best part of my meal was the salad, the fresh bread and when we got the check (waste of $$$ but hey you live and learn). more

My uncle and I were making plans for my grandparent's and grandfather's birthday weekend celebration (May 16th and 18th). He mentioned to me about Sammy's last year because it had great seafood, but the prices were a bit steep. He and a group of friends went before and had food leftover because the portions were so big. It sounded so good, when he mentioned it again I thought it was a good idea. My grandparents very seldom go out to new places and this would be a good excuse. My mother and I surprised them that weekend and I told them where we were going. They too were excited to eat there. When we got there the place was packed from the door to the host stand. Let me say when I put our name on the list I didn't have to wait extremely long either. I was seated in less than 30 minutes (if that) and was greeted shortly there after by the floor manger (a nice woman who checked on us throughout the night). When I saw the menu I damn near choked. I couldn't get over so many options and I decided to go for Maryland crabackes (large and plentiful the whole table ate off of them), a small salad before the meal, pasta on the side, shrimp scampi and crab legs. LORD THAT WAS THE BEST SEAFOOD MEALL I HAD IN A LONG TIME!!!! Not only was the food hot and fresh, the crab legs came with a some type of coating on them, the shrimp scampi was done very well, and I had plenty to take back home with to Maryland. The rest of family dined on large meals as well. My grandfather ordered the Snapper stuffed with crabmeat and it looked scrumptious. What made the night so special was the complimentary two glasses of champagne for my grandparents anniversary and a slice of red velvet cake. My server, her name is Dorian (hope she is still there and someone sees this), was excellent. She stayed on top of everything and took our orders promptly and correctly. I recommend this place to anyone who wants good seafood more

I was very pleased with everything. the waiter was fabolous he was curtious,fast, and professional. the hostess was very nice. and the food was out of sight. it was my moms birthday they sang happy birthday for her and she didnt even know they were gonna do that. i would recommend for everyone to go there. and enjoy! more
