MY FRIENDS AND I ALONG WITH MY KIDS WENT OUT TO DINNER AT SAMMY'S. FIRST, WE WAITED ABOUT 30 MINS TO BE SEATED. AFTER BEING SEATED, A GROUP OF PEOPLE ABOUT 2 TABLES AWAY FROM US STARTED TO ARGUE. EVERYONE INCLUDING THE WAITERS AND WAITRESS STOOD AROUND AND WATCHED AND DID NOTHING. ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ARGUING PICKED UP A CHAIR TO THROW. I GRABBED MY KIDS AND WE WENT BACK TO THE FRONT AND ASKED TO BE RESEATED. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO BE PLACED BACK ON THE WAITING LIST AND IT WOULD BE ANOTHER 30 MIN WAIT. WE ASKED FOR A MANAGER TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE TO SEAT US SOONER, IT CLEARLY NOT OUR FAULT WHY WE OTHER PEOPLE WERE FIGHTING. THE MANAGER WAS VERY RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. HE TOLD US WE LOST OUR SEAT AND IF WE DIDN'T LIKE IT WE COULD WAIT 30 MINS OR LEAVE. I TOLD THE MANAGER I WAS NOT GOING TO SIT IN AN AREA WITH MY KIDS WHERE PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING. HE TOLD ME IT WAS MY CHOICE. WE WERE TREATED LIKE ANIMALS AND WE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FIGHT. WE COULD NOT BELIEVE A MANAGER WOULD TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS. WE EVENTUALLY LEFT. IT WAS CLEAR TO SEE THAT OUR BUSINESS WAS NOT APPRECIATE. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT more

My boyfriend took me to this restaurant for dinner for my birthday last night. I've heard great things about City Island restaurants but was not impressed with this one at all. The waiter was slow and unattentive, and the food was so-so, not the best seafood I've ever had. I ordered a cocktail which was way too strong. The waiter took so long to come back and check on us once we ordered that I was done with the meal before I could tell him that I was not satisfied with this drink, which I didn't drink. My boyfriend asked if they could take it off the bill since I couldn't drink it. The waiter referred it to the manager who then took another 25 minutes to come over to the table. He then proceeded to insist that we let him make me another drink instead of taking it off the bill. I explained that it was not a good plan because we were done and ready to leave. A restaurant of a higher class would not get into the practice of arguing about a $9 drink with the customer when they've already spent over $200 dollars on the meal. Not impressed at all. I been going since I was 10 when my parents took me there. now I have a 10 year old daughter and the place is still as good as always. I love the selection of giant family feast platters and the fresh clams and oysters. I highly recommend this restaurant. I especially appreciate it when I see Sammy himself popping out of the kitchen to make sure his customers are having a good time. I never expected to find sushi at Sammy's. I love it and was afraid to order it because it just seemed out of place in a traditional; New England seafood house. But at the urging of my friends who dine often there, I ordered sushi..Unbelievable to me it was certain the best or close to the best I ever ate. I can't wait to return just to try other things on their sushi menu that I didn't try on my first visit. a great time was had by all. I live a short walk from Sammys and make regular visits. I usually go to the take out department where the food is good, However the real place to eat is Sammys garden room. It's classy but low-key, with a great ambiance- I especially love the cajan dishes. I've never had trouble with service, although it doesn't qualify as world class its better than average. I think the food ranks with the best seafood I have eaten throughout the world. I worked on a cruise ship for 9 years and have traveled the world over., eating in thousnads of restaurants from Rome to tim buck too. but nothing has come close to the seafood feast platter I order when I dine at Sammy's on City Island. I been a customer for 25 years and have never had a bad meal. It amazes me how such a busy and large restaurant has never dissapointed me or my friends. It must be good because when I am there I often see a celebrity from the sport or music business. Please don't ever cjhange we love you Sammy. After reading all the great reviews I decided to try Sammy's. Well, I think Sammy himself is writing those reviews. The food was below mediocre, the decor was cheesy, the service was similar to a seedy diner, the vegetables appeared to be frozen, the fish was not as good as I can make myself, although my softshell crabs were a decent size. The most tasty part of the meal was the bread. The prices are FAR from reasonable. Dinner for 2 without drinks was over $100 for less than appetizing cuisine. This restaurant may appeal to people who find Red Lobster a gourmet place. It can accommodate large parties who don't mind mid quality food. Good place for kids. I was not with a large party or kids. I was with my fiance. I am so sorry I decided to go to Sammy's. It is nowhere near the quality of food you can get in Manhattan. I wish my experience was better. I went to Sammy's a few days ago with a small group of people... even though we arrived for dinner at 6 PM the waiter clearly could not handle the small number of tables he had (approx. 3). He brought our salads, drinks and entrees all at the same time (rather than staggered) then neglected to bring implements to open the crabs, ketchup for the fries, butter/sourcream for the baked potatoes or lemon for the fish. We had to eventually flag down the owner to get these items -- he was NOT happy and explained the waiter had only been with them for a few weeks. However, Waiting 101 rules were being broken all over the place... he also served my nephew undiluted cranberry syrup as a beverage and never brought us the two beers my sister ordered. In the meantime, we'd finished eating and the table next to us hadn't gotten their entrees yet. Last night at her insistance I took my Mom to Sammy's for a pre-mothers day diner, since she will be working Mother's day. I am a lobster freak.I love lobster and whenever I go out I order a large lobster, so as you can see I have eaten lobster in hundreds of restruarnts but recently I had one at Sammy's it is the best one I ever had, it came stuffed with jumbo shrimp and was succulent and tender.
