Editorial review from Citysearch 3/8/2013

I was extremely nervous going here due to all the bad reviews but couldn't pass up the amazing deal I got off of Living Social. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the owner Carlton. He was extremely nice. I got a shellac manicure and a pedicure by ""Amanda Wicker"". She was so friendly and did an amazing job. She put in a lot of effort to make me feel comfortable and keep up a conversation with me. I love my nails and toe nails. She did everything right. Then I got my hair washed, cut, colored and styled by ""Molly Smith"" who I ABSOLUTELY LOVED!! oh my gosh she did an amazing job. I walked out feeling so pretty. I truly felt at home here and would recommend it to all my friends. I will defiantly be back!!!!! -Lindsey more

Worst Mani/Pedi EVER! 5/19/2012

Terrible mani/pedi by Amanda. First off, she was done with the pedicure in 15 minutes! Literally, all she did was a sugar scrub, 30 seconds of pumicing, lotion and a sloppy paint job. The mani was just as a sloppy. I asked her to trim my cuticles and butchered me. I was supposed to get a shellac manicure but chickened out because it was obvious she had no clue what she was doing. She sanded my nails down and left the ""dust"" bunched around the cuticles. When I told her I wanted all the stuff removed she told me she couldn't get close to the cuticle with the paint anyway, so it didn't matter. At this point the loud mouth and obnoxious owner Carlton started talking to his stylists about boobs, who was the drunkest the night before and other unprofessional stuff. The only good thing I can say about Amanda is she at least had the sense to be embarrassed by his actions. After hearing him go on for several minutes (the salon was EMPTY on a Saturday afternoon--- maybe that should be a hint to management?) I decided I'd had enough and wasn't about to let Amanda do anything semi-permanent to my nails. I told her to slap a quick coat of polish on and then I RAN for the door. Don't go, save your money! You get a better - and cheaper- mani-pedi at one of the quick serve nail salons! more

Wonderful! 8/10/2011

I had my experience at Salon Icon a few weeks ago. The decor and establishment was beautiful. The staff is friendly and inviting, and my mani/pedi was perfect. Whether you prefer to read and relax or talk and unwind, the mood lighting switches can be adjusted to your preference. The salon offers a cold beverage or even a glass of wine as you soak your feet in the tub. The products are very good, and I much agree with the previous review as my experience was almost identical. I went to the beach a few days following my pedicure, and it held up quite well. Wonderful place over all! more

The best of the best 7/31/2011

I absolutely DISAGREE with the previous reviews of the mani-pedi! The entire experience was WONDERFUL and ICONIC!!! I was greeted by the staff and felt welcome as soon as I stepped in the door. Amanda led me through the beautifully decorated salon to an intimate room for my mani- pedi. As I soaked I was offered a beverage and then she sat down to start my service. I felt as if I had known her for years. The conversation was great, as if we were old friends catching up. The massage was soothing and I loved the products used. Amanda gave me many tips for at home maintenance and care. I have yet to find another salon that cares for their clients as Icon does. This is a MUST try. I have found my new salon and I WILL be back! more

Awful Mani / Pedi 7/8/2011

I completely agree with the two previous reviews. This was the WORST manicure and pedicure I've ever received. I have to say the pedicure was better than the manicure but that's not saying much since the manicure was a NIGHTMARE! The manicurist (her name was Amanda) mutilated my cuticles which left me later with painful peeling. Her painting was very sloppy and plus, as soon as she was done, she didn't let my nails dry at all. She rubbed some clear oily stuff on them and said that I was good to go. I felt like she was pressuring me to leave, so I left and further messed up the disaster paint job. If you value your hands and feet at all, don't get the manicure or pedicure from this salon. more

Worst Mani/Pedi 6/2/2011

To begin, I was very much looking forward to visiting Salon Icon for a mani/pedi, as I had heard only good things about their services. It was pretty difficult getting an appointment, as their one manicurist was always booked and we played a drawn out game of phone tag over a few days trying to book me. In the end, the manicurist was understanding of my schedule and was patiently waiting on me when I arrived for my appointment. Once there, everyone at the Salon was welcoming and jovial. I was taken to a small room with two salon pedicure chairs and a small table for manicures. This is where my disappointment began. There were limited nail colors scattered around the table along with other manicure supplies. There was no sense of organization and as soon as the manicurist began on my nails, it was clear she was disorganized at what she was doing. She only filed one hand of nails, did not buff, did not use any sort of cuticle softener or cuticle oil, and then, as the previous reviewer stated, the nightmare began. After filing one hand of nails and barely soaking my fingers, she began to scrape my cuticle back and across my nail bed down to my finger, and then scraped across my finger. I was afraid to look down in fear that my fingers were bleeding. After I commented, the manicurist barely apologized and continued her work in the same way. She then painted one coat of polish and one top coat before starting on my toes. By the time she was finished my manicure, my hands looked worn and rough with dry skin, a poor polishing job ready to chip, and dry cuticles - not at all what you would expect from a salon manicure. The pedicure went the same way - rough filing, no buffing, no cuticle softener, no oil. I was surprised when she sloughed away dead skin and began a lotion massage. However, it was short-lived and I left with remaining dead skin on my feet. After she painted my toe nails, she put some sort of slick oil on them to make the polish dry faster and then smudged two nails with her finger to test if they were still tacky. She did not fix them but rather sent me on my way. Once I returned to my car, I realized that my feet did not feel as if I spent any money on a pedicure and my hands looked worse than they did when I entered. For a $53 mani/pedi duo from a salon of such caliber, I would only expect the best. Instead, I received a painful, disgruntling, hack-job on my nails. On top of the poor job I paid for, there was no evidence of sanitizing equipment in the mani/pedi room. At one point I saw the manicurist spray the foot buffer with some spray and then wipe it on the towel she was using for my feet before buffing my feet...not so sanitary if you ask me. The rest of her tools were scattered about haphazardly and clearly reused. The manicurist (who was a nice girl, I'll admit) claimed she had been doing nails for years, however it seemed as if I could have done a better job on my own nails without any experience. Above all else, I did not see any sort of nail technician license or sanitation grade. Perhaps they were in the rest of the salon and not in the mani/pedi room, but either way the proof was not apparent. Don't get me wrong - the salon was lovely and the rest of the staff seemed entirely competent. Every other customer who was not getting their nails done appeared to walk out satisfied and had a good time while they were at it. The same can not be said for the mani/pedi. If you go to Salon Icon, don't go for a mani/pedi. It is not worth the price or the pain and you can receive a much better job at any nail salon for half the price. more

Mani/Pedi 5/26/2011

The pedi was good, very limited colors. Mani was a nightmare. Filed nails, pushed cuticles and 1 coat clear polish. Had to re-file nails at home (they were very rough) I still have lots of cuticle, only now they look terrible. I now have little peeling areas above the cuticle on the finger. And the nail polish is coming off. I just had them done yesterday. Would not recomment the nail service. more

Salon Icon = Quality, Great Skills, and Fun 6/7/2006

I've been a client of Carlton's for over six years now, and I haven't regretted a single moment. He is always in ""the know"" as to the current trends, and keeps an eye out for up and coming ones as well. I've never had a complaint about anything regarding his salon, and my hair has never looked better (and we've done just about everything decent to it). Not afraid to tell you something won't work, Carlton will help you figure out what really will work so you look your best. Everybody should give his salon a chance -- Carlton and his staff (Awesome job, y'all!) go to great lengths to make sure that you not only have a superb salon experience, but that you're comfortable and enjoying the moment. I could go on and on... :) Pros: Good staff, Great atmosphere, Impeccable skills more
