Great salon. They even do a free makeup refresh!

I've been going to this place for years and they do a great job with hair cut and color, brow waxing and facials. But they're scheduling policies are pretty inflexible and unforgi...

Great Straightening & Cut 11/29/2007

I had my hair straightened and cut by Nikki and her assistant Danielle. It was an enjoyable experience from start to finish and my hair came out looking great. I've had the Japanese straightening done in the past and the treatment they do here by Rusk is less harsh, but still effective and much cheaper. In total it set me back about $240 but it was worth it. more

Not for a curly hair cut. 11/15/2007

Besides the slightly indifferent counter girls, the 2 stylists I went to (one for the original cut, the other to attempt to 'fix' the original cut) were friendly and nice. I have curly hair, needed a simple trim, was completely explicit in what I wanted, with the stylist even repeating it back to me... etc... And walked out with 2 different hair cuts on either side of my head, CRAZY layers, and the worst styling job I have ever had given to me by someone who is "trained in cutting and styling curly hair". I can deal with the styling job, but the cut? The long layers weren't even the same. The sad part about it is because of the way she cut it in order to fix it the 2nd stylist would have had to chop about 8 inches off my hair, taking it all the way up to the bottom of my ears. I was given no discount, no real apology, and asked how much I wanted to tip. In short, I won't go there again and I recommend that those with curly hair not go there either. oh and in case you're wondering, I did tip the 2nd stylist just cuz it's the polite thing to do. :) Pros: the little bit of tea when waiting for my stylist was nice. and aveda products are always great! Cons: bad customer service, bad cut, bad value for the money. more

Relaxing atmosphere 10/13/2007

Once I started coming to Pyara two years ago I haven't tried another salon/spa for waxing, facials or haircuts. It's become my one stop for all because the quality of their service ... my haircuts have come out nicely, and when I get my eyebrows waxed the outcome is always nice, and the technicians are really friendly. Pros: Talented hair stylists, nice staff, relaxing atmosphere Cons: Need to make an appointment a few days in advance more

Pure Heaven 6/8/2007

It's hard to believe this salon is in Harvard Sq. Look and feels like trendy NY Madison Ave retreat (without the pretension). Love coming here any chance I get. Sammy is a miracle when it comes to pedicures. Aveda products? Only product I'll use and worth every penny. Only thing they could do to up the experience is serve a glass a wine. Pros: Aveda, Aveda and more Aveda Cons: Some of the new technicians can be a little clingy and need to lend themselves to the zen atmosphere more

Great body massage by Cecilia! 4/12/2007

Today, I went to get my 60 mins body massage at Pyara Spa and Salon. It was a gift from my best friend and I must thank her so much. My therapist was Cecilia, she was nice and charming, her massage was fantastic! I think I will get my boyfriend a gift certificate for a 60 mins body massage by Cecilia. I am sure other therapists are as wonderful as Cecilia. But, I was VERY satisfied by her!! It was worth getting out of the house in a rainy windy day. more

Great Spa, Friendly Service and Excellent Workers 3/8/2007

When it comes to spas/salons, I must say that I have been to them all. I was always looking for the right color blonde and the feeling of relaxation when I entered into a spa. I wanted to be treated like a princess and be happy with the end result. When I discovered Pyara, not only did I receive amazing color, but I also felt that as soon as I walked in the front door, from the amazing customer service, personal attention of the assistants and the actual service itself, I was completely pampered and always felt like I was the only one in the spa. This feeling happens each and every time I go in there. I highly recommend Taylor. She is an amazing colorist/hairstylist. She cares so much about her clients and really does an amazing job in achieving what they are looking for. Her assistant, Crystal, is just as wonderful. Taylor takes the time (with every cleint) to show Crystal the techniques and guide her through the steps if needed. It is very nice to watch their interaction. I really can't say enough nice things about Pyara. The atmosphere is warm, the front desk and makeup is always willing to accommodate the client, the assistants are attentive to the individual with massages, drinks, etc., and the colorists/hairstylists receive a 10 in my book. An amazing job all around! I definitely feel like a PRINCESS at Pyara Spa and Salon. You should really take the time to check it out. Once you do, you will not go anywhere else. Enjoy your experience!! Pros: Great staff, warm atmosphere and excellent customer service more

Excellent service, Best Color, Highly Customized Skin Care 3/6/2007

The best color around, hands down! I return time and again to Pyara Aveda not only because their colorists have perfected the sun-kissed blond of summer that I miss during these dark days, but also because of the friendly atmosphere. I feel like I'm in the lap of luxury when whisked away to the private rooms for spa services, which have helped to restore the dewy skin I thought I had lost a decade ago! There's no magic, just top-notch products, selected for my skin type and lifestyle, with professional guidance on their best use. The professionalism, superior products, and friendly staff make Pyara a real find! Pros: Service, Skill, Professionalism, Atmosphere more

wonderful atmosphere 3/5/2007

I'm not a spa or salon connoisseur by any means, and one of the best things about my experience at Pyara was that I didn't feel I needed to be one. My hair stylist was friendly, helpful, and genuinely listened to my input on my hair - something that some "top-notch" salons fail to do. I love the cut, and I loved the service! The woman who did my complimentary "makeup touch-up" (which for me was a "makeup application" as i don't usually wear makeup) did an excellent job - high praise from someone who usually dislikes makeup. Above all, everyone was friendly and warm... such a soothing experience after stepping in from the cold. more

Great Stylists-Poor Customer Service 3/2/2007

The stylists in this lovely salon are quite talented in both cut and color. Over the course of a year, I was primarily pleased with my services, happy to pay the $2-300 price tag per visit. On my final visit to Pyara, unfortunately bad color and customer service caused me to terminate my business. I was very specific that I was looking for true, golden blonde highlights and wanted to fade out as much of the reddish tint to my hair as possible. I walked out with an all over reddish-brown color and no highlights visible. Giving my stylist the benefit of the doubt, I gave my hair 48 hours to adjust with no improvement. When I called to ask to have my services re-done, it did not go well. The receptionist scheduled me for Saturday, which the next day I realized I was unable to keep. When I called to ask to be moved to the following weekend, the same person told me that though I had been scheduled for a Saturday it was a mistake, they were no longer re-doing services on weekends. He went onto tell me that it appeared he was the one who had re-scheduled me , but that just wasn't possible as he would never make such a mistake. Furthermore, I would need to accomodate my stylist's schedule (this meant accepting one of only a few weekday, midday appointments given that she booked so far in advance) within 10 days of the date of my original service. As I was unable to re-schedule with these restrictions, I expected to be offered a refund or gift certifcate to compensate. No such offer was made. After being a regular customer for over a year, spending well over $2000 in that time, I expected reasonable accomodations to help rectify this situation. After being unwilling to be flexible or to try to accomodate my schedule + no offer of compensation, I was forced to have my color re-done elsewhere. I have since become a client of that salon. If you are looking for top notch customer service and appreciation of repeat customers, this is not the salon for you. Pros: Great atmosphere and services, Overall stylists are skilled and very personable Cons: Poor customer service and customer appreciation. Rude front desk staff. more

disappointed... 2/28/2007

I have always loved Pyara and had fantastic massages by everyone that i have seen. I was so disappointed by the service I received about two weeks ago when I went to buy a gift certificate for $250.00. I was treated like I was asking for special service because I wanted the GIFT certificate in my friends name not mine. I understand that they want to set up customer accounts, therefore it may have been easier to use it under my name, however it was a GIFT. Also, what the thick 30's something man didn't seem to pick up on is that, yes I have been there many times, but also that my friend had not, and I was referring her and paying for an expensive all day treatment for her. I was so disgusted with his attitude that there is no way that I would ever go there again. This person seemed to be in a managerial role, and there is too much competition in boston and cambridge to tolerate that treatment. Pros: great massages, nice private rooms Cons: lazy and rude front desk more

Bad attitudes with front desk staff 2/26/2007

I have to say how unhappy I am with the front desk staff at Pyara Aveda salon. I've dealt with this on more than one occassion at this salon. They have attitude and I don't mean that in a good sense. You can have attitude and still be kind and give excellent customer service. You'll find that on New bury Street. They obviously don't care about the business. If it wasn't for the fact that I love Aveda products and that I don't want to hike to Boston to buy my products, I would not support this salon. I still may not. I found the front desk staff to be unfriendly, acting as if they were doing the me a favor and unwelcoming. I've been to many Aveda salons nationwide and I've never been treated in this way. Step it up and find a kind, welcoming attitude! Work on your customer service technique. You are the first face we see when we come in. On a good note, I did have an excellent brow wax and shape. Thankfully reception wasn't working on my eyebrows. Pros: The products and the treatments Cons: The front desk staff more

A real find in Cambridge! 1/15/2007

I've recently relocated to Cambridge, and found this salon on this website. I'm happy to say that I was not at all disappointed. The salon is great. (I had a manicure and pedicure.) The service was very professional and friendly. They run on-time (always a pleasure) and are very welcoming. Another plus for me was their flexibility in scheduling my appointment, which I made on the same day. The salon isn't loud, like some are, which makes a much more relaxing experience, in my opinion. It's also very clean. Another bonus is that if you're having your hair colored, there's a big round table in the back of the salon with magazines and tea/coffee where you can sit while you're waiting for your process to finish. Much more welcoming than a line of chairs against the wall. Can't wait to go back! Pros: Near public transit, good ambience, low-pressure, really nice staff. Cons: I don't drive in Cambridge, but on-street parking might be difficult at peak times since the salon is in Harvard Square. Plenty of cabs/public transit nearby, though. more

Go to Taylor if you have straight hair! 11/13/2006

If you have straight hair, ask for Taylor!! I have very straight hair and in the past when I went to Pyara, I wasn't that thrilled with my haircuts - just uninspired, boring, blunt cuts with no movement or body. But this time, I LOVE my new haircut thanks to Taylor!! I've been getting lots of compliments which never happens with my hair 'cause it's usually so boring. In 29 years of getting haircuts, I've never actually been satisfied with the end result. But somehow, magically, Taylor knew exactly what I wanted from my scant description and did a fantastic job. I have all the layers I wanted and lots of body (a feat I thought was impossible) and a cute shape even though I'm very low maintenance and don't do anything except blowdry my hair. The price was $55 which is quite good and I also highly recommend the Light Elements Detailing Mist-Wax which has worked wonders on my fine straight hair to give it body, volume and texture. Pros: nice atmosphere, good hours, convenient location Cons: some hairstylists not as good as others more

Great haircuts, friendly staff, reasonable rates 7/29/2006

I've been having my hair cut at Pyara for two years now, and I won't go anywhere else as long as I'm in Boston. Elizabeth is the best! I always leave the salon thrilled and the cuts even get better as the weeks pass. (That, to me, is the sign of a great cut - that it grows in well) I've also had some waxing (eyebrows, bikini) done at Pyara and found the prices reasonable and the service professional. Highly recommended! Pros: talented staff, great value, wonderful results Cons: no complaints! more

A great place to unwind 2/27/2006

I've been here 3 times and have been pleased overall. The salon is terrific. They have the nicest pedicure station, and the pedicures are pretty good (the exfoliation could be more thorough). The waxing is excellent and virtually painless. The facial is very relaxing, starting with a foot soak and choosing essential oils to be used during the experience. If you like the extended rest periods in between the treatments during a facial, youll be disappointed. The aesthetician is there the whole time, massaging/treating your face (definitely get your moneys worth). While the overall experience was excellent, my ultra-sensitive skin (which I mentioned beforehand) didnt react well to something I walked out with pimples on my face! With its relaxing (and super clean!) atmosphere, helpful staff, and no sales pressure, Id definitely recommend this place (just not for facials if you have hypersensitive skin like me). Pros: relaxing atmosphere, good services, no sales pressure more

My search is done 2/21/2006

I had my haircut at Pyara and was extremely pleased with the whole experience. I am so happy that I found my old stylist Taylor and have received many compliments on my haircut. I was there on a Sunday morning and it was so peaceful! This place is a real hidden jewel. more

The Best Yet 2/18/2006

By far this is the best spa i have been to yet. I find Pyara to have the most relaxing atmosphere, and complimented by an excellent staff. I couldn't find a better spa to spend my time or money! THANK YOU PYARA AND STAFF!!! Pros: atmosphere, staff, unique service Cons: need bigger bathrobes more

Sloppy manicure! 1/30/2006

This manicure was one of the worst I ever got. The nails were filed unevenly, and the polish applied in a very sloppy manner. At checkout, I mentioned that I was unsatisfied with the service, showed how bad it was, to which the attender just shrugged and charged me full price regardless. I went straight home and removed the polish, and redid the nails myself. This spa looks gorgeous, but the service is terrible. more

Best service any where!! Great facials!! 1/11/2006

The staff at Pyara are so friendly and helpful. They all know about the Aveda products and recommend what is best for you. Jessica Sinatra is the best for facials!! She is always spectacular!! She explains everything she is doing and makes the facial so relaxing. Christine Perkins who is the owner and is often seen at the front counter makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. I went once with a few friends for a mini-day of pampering and Chrisitne who is also licensed jumped right in and gave a manicure that was to die for. I am so glad that such a wonderful salon finally came into Cambridge. I recommend this place to all my friends. Pros: knowledge of product, kind, friendly, not pushy more

Fabulous 1/11/2006

10/18/2007 This is my second review of Pyara Spa & Salon A month ago I had a hair cut and style done by Taylor--- A fantastic experience!! My hair is basically thin and stringy-- After five weeks I am, still, getting compliments from all my friends and family-- I am able to keep it looking great-- Usually a week after haircuts I look as if I need another visit to the hairdresser!! Not this time!! First Kelly gave a wonderful neck massage with oils, then washing of my hair, then a warm towel before bringing me to Taylor to style my hair-- I highly recommend this salon for hair and massage services!!! Thank-you Taylor and Kelly!!! (And Christine, the owner, who has brought fabulous people together to work miracles on people like me!!) 1/11/2006 A massage is a very fantastic experience here--- A 30 min. massage starts with a review of your health-- then a very pleasant foot wash--massage-- Next the actual massage which was with specialty oils and warmth!!!! Fabulous experience--- Thank-you Pyara and your wonderful staff!!!! Pros: Ambience is so relaxed and comfortable, staff is excellent and welcoming--- more
