Best

My husband and I are new to this area and a colleague of my husband's and his wife took us to dinner at Orange Hill last night. I had checked the reviews before we went and I was...

Worst

1) Soup and salad did not come with entrees, we had to pay for them separately. 2) The Dynamite Scallops plate was salty! 3) Steak and Lobster plate was at ""market price"" $76....

Great View..skip the food and terrible service!!\r Not a good place for a special occasion..they just don't care! I loved this place years ago....so sad. Thank you Orange Hill for the terrible Anniversary experience! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/18/2012

Orange Hill has been a favorite spot for celebrating special occasions for over 30 years. Last night we had an annual dinner which we look forward to all year. However, the dining experience was dismal. For starters we had gifts for one another and orchids on the table - Restaurant 101 would teach the server that this makes a perfect opportunity to comment to the guests and welcome them. That did not happen. To back up, the beauty of this particular restaurnt is the view. Our party however was relagated to a banquest room with zero view. For ambiance the fireplace was lit, but chairs were scattered all around it. Apparently the room we were seated at is where the D list wait staff works. Our server was not interested. Food okay, wine was warm, we were not asked if we wanted a second drink. When the meal was done our boxed food was dumped on the table while other patrons had their leftovers in Orange Hill bags. I approached the manager on duty and expressed our dismay. As the restaurant was PACKED and she seemed overwhelmed, she simply responded: ""Well, you should have said something."" She never made eye contact, offer her business card or extend an apology. more

WARNING: INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE THOUROUGHLY PRIOR TO LEAVING 9/23/2011

Orange Hill does not offer self parking. You are required to use their valet service. Although we loved everything about the Orange Hill Restaurant - my car was damaged by the valet in their parking lot. There is a small dent, scratches, and a portion of the metal logo has been completely snapped off the back of the vehicle. It looks like it was backed into another vehicle or perhaps a fence. I did not notice the damage prior to leaving the restaurant. I didn't realize that walking around the entire car for a thorough inspection was necessary. If only I could go back to that night...\r \r Long story short:\r The morning after visiting the restaurant I found a small piece of plastic-painted-chrome in the driver's side of my car. It turned out to be a portion of the ""C"" in my new Civic. I believe the valet damaged my car and when the C was torn off he tried to hide the evidence, I assume by putting the pieces in his pocket, and then mistakenly dropped a piece inside the car. Tell me how the outside of my car was damaged but a piece of it was found INSIDE of the car? Sounds shady, right?\r \r I contacted the restaurant who were apologetic but quickly pawned me off on NATIONAL VALET COMPANY - the valets are outsourced. They do not work for the restaurant. The valet company then pawned me off on their insurance company who quickly sent me a claim form.\r \r Two days after the insurance company received my claim they sent me a letter back. ""After their investigation"" they concluded:\r \r a.) No employee had ""any knowledge"" of my vehicle being damaged on the night of my visit. (Shocking, no one would fess up to it now)\r b.) No one else had submitted a claim to damage on their vehicle on the same night\r c.) They inspected the area and there was NO POSSIBLE way the damage to my car occurred there (I guess that means they don't have any fences, light posts, trees, etc.)\r d.) This one is the kicker! They state ""And lastly may we refer you to the posted SIGN at the restaurant that reads any claim of damage must be completed prior to leaving the premises.""\r \r If that is the policy that what was the point of sending me claim forms to begin with? Needless to say, they basically told me to kick rocks.\r \r Let this review stand as a warning: INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE THOUROUGHLY PRIOR TO LEAVING THE ORANGE HILL RESTAURANT. The valets know that even if they do damage your car - once you leave the lot they can claim they are not responsible. \r \r The restaurant management never even followed up with me after I reported the damage to them originally. Thank you for a huge headache and a lovely meal that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars extra. more

Wow!! NOT what I was expecting!! 10/10/2010

My husband and I are new to this area and a colleague of my husband's and his wife took us to dinner at Orange Hill last night. I had checked the reviews before we went and I was VERY skeptical. We arrived and there were two wedding receptions being held (one at either end of the building). We got there around 5:30 and found a spot on the deck. Even with all the chaos, we had fantastic service and the food was really great!! One of us had scallops, one salmon, and two of us had the fliet mignon - and they were all cooked exactly the way we wanted and were seasoned just right. I am a semi-pro cook and extremely picky about my food and restaurants I go to. This is one place I will go again - Plus, we got to see the Disney fireworks - bonus! We were there for five hours and the whole time, the service was execptional. Evidentally, they are under new management. Just avoid the overly flirtatious, overly plastic surgeoned greeting lady. She obviously still thinks she's attractive and that flirting with married men in front of their wives isn't a band thing. more

Worst Experience Ever! 3/29/2010

This place is horrible! My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here, and they ruined our whole day.\r Nothing was as the restaurant promised it would be, and once they took our money, they didn't care about us or our wedding at all.\r \r If anyone is thinking of getting married here, DON""T! There aren't words to describe how horrible the whole thing was. Pros: Nice View. That is the only good thing. Cons: Everything more

Good View, Bad and Expensive Foods 3/1/2010

1) Soup and salad did not come with entrees, we had to pay for them separately. 2) The Dynamite Scallops plate was salty! 3) Steak and Lobster plate was at ""market price"" $76.00 but no better than Sizzler's, not to mention that the steak was very small. 4) Good service. Ones should go there for a drink at night for the view, but try not to dine there. Pros: Wonderful View Cons: Expensive and Bad Foods more

Romantic 2/22/2010

The view is great, which takes away from the food. The food quality doesn't match the cost for the dishes, so that's why I say the view is the pro and con. You can hang out by the balcony/cliff area where they have fireplaces while you wait for your table, or just go there for drinks. The staff is professional and friendly. They don't have that one special thing that makes me have an urgency to want to go there. Pros: the view Cons: the view more

Romantic Restaurant 1/2/2010

This place gets my vote because of its location, venue, decor, and fire pit. Food is not bad either. It's a good place for a date, or a group of friends to chat over drinks while sitting around the fire pit looking at the hills of orange county. Pros: Great place to get together Cons: Valet parking only more

Ok but pricey 9/14/2009

The food was sub par for the cost, but the view was wonderful. Pros: View Cons: Food more

Good view, bad bad food 5/22/2009

My sister and I just went here last night for my birthday. First of all, the hostess, who I called 3 times, could not give me correct directions to this place even though I asked to speak to someone else who could give me accurate directions. This place is on a street called cliff way, not chapman. Anyway, the food is bad here. I would rate the food a little higher than a tgi fridays, but 3 times the price. Seriously, kobe skewers were fatty, chewy and drenched in teriyaki sauce, maybe to hide the fact that they were so bad. Also, the calamari was not fresh, chewy too and stale. The ravioli entree was worse than a first year college dorm mate trying to cook. Do not eat here, you'll be greatly disappointed. Just get a bottle of wine, the list is extensive. Forget about getting dessert, this is really bad too, unedible. A Denny's dessert is better, that's how bad this place is. Pros: twinkling city lights Cons: food is bad! more

Server Lied 4/19/2009

My husband and I had dinner Saturday night because our next door neighbor had raved about her experience. I wish I could rave about our experience but I am sorry to say I cannot. We had asked our waitress for the specials because our neighbor had mention you could get an excellent dinner for under twenty dollars, the waitress told us that they had no specials. Later that night when I visited their website I found that they offer the ""Sunset Dinner"" for 19.95. I felt so deceived I don't understand why should would have done this, maybe to earn extra tips? I really don't know. When I tried to contact Orange Hill no one would talk to me, I left messages and no one returned my call. I finally just let it go and we will not be returning. If this happens to you, please ask to speak to the manager right then and there, I wish we did. Pros: Amazing View Cons: Bad Service more

Great dining experience 4/4/2009

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we both absolutely loved the views. from the moment we got there, we felt important. it did take them a bit to get us seated even though i had made reservations a week in advance but once we say down, our waitress was great. She made sure we had everything and our cups were never empty not did we ever have any plates on our table for more than a few minutes. The views out of the window were incredible!! The waitress then gave my girlfriend a free slice of cheesecake for her birthday. when we were done eating, we sat on the outside balcony by a fire pit for about 20 mins and had a great time enjoying the city views. The food was a little on the dissapointing side...the cesar salad was a bit lacking, the salmon was a little too dry for my taste and my prime rib was cooked rare instead of medium and my mashed potatoes seemed too bland also. For the price of the food, it definitely wasn't 5 star dining but the entire ambiance and experience of the place made up for it. But then once we went outside, the valet seemed too interested in my girlfriend then getting my car and was very unproffesional in the way he presented himself and the valet service. He kept staring at her as she got in the car and then while i was walking around to the other side kept looking through the door at her...that lost him his tip. there was those few bad things but overall the experience was good. I wouldn't go there again just because i'd like to try other places but i would definitely reccomend it for a special occasion of any sorts Pros: Great service, beautiful views and acceptable prices Cons: too long to seat us, valet, food more

Great food, service, view! 3/15/2009

We had relatives in town and wanted to try something new. This restaurant has been around for a long time but I'd never gone. We arrived at 5:45 (reservation was for 6:00) and had drinks in the bar. I asked for a view table but was told there were none available. After drinks we moved to our spectacular corner table with a full view of the city below. (am not sure how that happened!) We were offered the sunset menu ($20 for salad, entree + dessert) and all 5 of us ordered from it. No one was disappointed, in fact every one of us raved about the salmon, prime rib and chicken entrees we were served. I cannot recommend this establishment enough! We all had a wonderful evening. Pros: Unbelievable Sunset Menu more

Very disappointed 3/5/2009

We planned to have a happy birthday night but it becomes to a nightmare when we sat for 15 minutes and the waiter never took our order. He attended all table around us but never stop in our. We had to stand up and go to another restaurant. This restaurant is not as good as it seem. I really don't recommend it. more

Overpriced and Pretentious 2/7/2009

My family and I wanted to have some late-night dessert and enjoy the view. We were told that the dinning room was only for people eating dinner and if we wanted to just have dessert we'd either have to sit at the bar or outside (it was raining). Neither of these horrible options appealed to us and we left. I am still sorely disappointed that the restaurant discriminates against patrons who choose not to eat dinner. If they had allowed us to eat in the dinning room we'd probably be there every weekend. Their dessert is decent - its kind of hard to ruin cakes. But the dinner menu isn't anything special. more

The Best 9/29/2008

This is one of the best restaurants experience we ever had. The food was of highest quality, service was professional and attentive, great ambiance and wonderful views. We ordered the Kobi Skewers and baked Brie appetizers, Cider Plank Salmon and Fillet Oscar, for dessert we had the Chocolate pyramid and Sorbet, they were all very delicious and well presented, the staff was helpfully and accommodating. We had a great bottle of wine Duck horn Pinot noir. We will be visiting Orange hill Restaurant more often and we will recommend it to all our friends. Thank you for a wonderful experience Pros: View, service and food Cons: Crowded more

Absolutely magnificant 9/23/2008

I just got home from CA. I was visiting my daughter in Huntington Beach and she took me here last Saturday night. I have eaten in many places, however this was by far the most spectacular view and perfect staff ever. From the moment we turned up the rode to the moment we sat down, breathtaking. The dinner could not have been better, the desert spectacular. The service phenominal. I would recommend everyone try Orange County. My prime rib was the best I have EVER had. The entire evening could not have been anymore perfect. Pros: The staff and the view more

Top of the Hill Magic! 7/10/2008

Just dined here last night and what a great time! I was extremely impressed with the food as it was very flavorful and beautifully presented. The service was very attentive, knowledgeable and effecient. I was very impressed all the way around we had such a great night before we knew it 3 hours had gone by and we had not even noticed. I highly reccomend this place for dining. Pros: Great experience - will make you forget about life's worries Cons: ????? Don't know more

Best dinner and service I have ever had 6/30/2008

I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world, but this experience I had at Orange Hill was one of the most memorable I have had in a long time. My wife and I recently had dinner reservations on a Monday night. When we decided to eat at Orange Hill we remembered the last time we had dinner there, in the summer of 2000. It was very bad; I remember having ordered the king crab carbonara, which was served very cold, tasted flavorless, and we received it one hour after we had ordered it. I asked for the manager; he came out to our table to see what the problem was and discuss our concerns. While at our table, the manager seemed more interested in my wife than our experience and unhappiness. Anyway, our recent second experience was excellent. I ordered the special that night, a peppered crusted dry aged NY steak with a sour mash whiskey sauce, truffled popcorn, and a stuffed tomato with creamed leeks and chive oil. My wife ordered the swordfish with a reisling vinaigrette and fennel salad. Everybody knows Orange Hill Restaurant's view is great, especially now that the food matches the view. more

Keeps Getting Better 6/19/2008

Simply said ""I LOVE this place!"" I have been going here for over 10 years and let me tell you that it keeps getting better and better. I mean come on first of all, how can you do better than that amazing view. We went there last week for dinner with my wife and another couple and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were catered to and shown such great service and attention. Now to the food.... We had the most amazing steaks ever! I had their NY with macaroni and cheese (and a leafy green that I cannot remember the name of it; collard greens?...not sure) my wife had their Filet with Pinot Noir sauce and she was very happy our guests had the Lamb and the Filet Oscar and they both said they were amazing dishes. The server was perfect, attentive, courteous and not overberring (hovering... I hate that!). The dishes were beautifully presented as well. We love this restaurant as I already said and we will be coming back many more times! Keep up the good work on the hill! Pros: Food, Service & Freindly/Courteous Staff Cons: Big Hill To Drive Up (Well I had to answer this! :-P) more
