Best

My husband and I are new to this area and a colleague of my husband's and his wife took us to dinner at Orange Hill last night. I had checked the reviews before we went and I was...

Worst

1) Soup and salad did not come with entrees, we had to pay for them separately. 2) The Dynamite Scallops plate was salty! 3) Steak and Lobster plate was at ""market price"" $76....

Awesome all around experience at brunch 5/31/2008

The Saturday Brunch at Orange Hill was absolutely fantastic! We were greeted by very courteous hostess. She got us seated quickly. Our server ensured our plates were cleared as soon as we finished. And got us what ever we needed. We all loved the wonderful variety of food offered. The Restaurant was really clean and well maintained. The food was fantastic everything was hot and fresh. We had a family gathering and everyone agreed this was by far the best brunch for quality and price. We are going to have our next family outing at the Orange Hill Restaurant. I will be recommending this restaurant to clients and friends. Pros: Ambience and Value more

My New Favorit Place!!! 5/31/2008

A dining experience like no other! Orange Hill is one of the most unique and elegant restaurants you'll find. This place has the most amazing views and ambiance to go along with it's amazing cusine. On our visit everyone was extremely helpful from the front desk to the bus staff - the manager even came by to see how we were doing! The food - Amazing!!! To start I had the Kobe Beef skewers YUMMY! Tasty and super tender. For dinner I had the Filet Oscar style - what a treat (I know, I know....Meat and then more meat...But how could I resist). At the end we kept it simple and went for their house made upside down apple walnut pie with cinnamon ice cream - GREAT! If looking to impress or just want to have the best there is then I highly reccomend Orange HIll for any night out! Oh and I hear they have a great Sunday brunch too - I am gonna have to check that out - will re-post here and let y'all know how that goes - I am sure it will impress as well! Chow!!!! Pros: Everything Cons: Would love if it were closer to my house! more

Best In Southern Cal.!!!! 5/31/2008

We went to Orange Hill last Thursday night for a business dinner and let me tell you - this place is tops! Upon arriving the ever so attentive valet greeted us promtly and were very courteous and professional. The walkway was a treat in itself with waterfalls and a koi pond - SO NICE! We entered the lobby (we were a party of four) and were greeted promptly by the smiling host staff whom accomodated us right away (we wanted a window table so they did not have a window right away but they suggested the bar or patio with fire pits while we wait for one - no problem - we wanted a window so we waited). The patio was impressive framing the expansive view which was unbelievable - the cocktail staff were courteous,m freindly and effecient. Within 1/2 hour (which flew by as we were enjoying the patio) we got our window! We were brought to our table by a freindly hostess (can't remember the name!) who even brought us black napkins (Nice touch when you are wearing a black suit). The waitress approched our table and was smiling, informative and very attentive. The food - This was amazing - We started out with the duo of scallop and prawn and their baked brie - to die for - then we had their green salad - which was great as well. The entrees were terrific as well - I had the Chilean Sea Bass which was phenominal and the other guests in my party had beef dishes and said they ranked up there with the best they had ever had. I must say that we will be enjoying not only more business dinners at the Orange Hill, but my family will also be coming back many times. It is hard to find great food, great service and great ambiance all in one place today and Orange Hill definately over delivers on all these and more. Don't miss this place! Pros: Everything more

Avoid holiday brunch! 5/12/2008

Knowing this is one of the most popular brunch locations for Mother's Day I made my reservation well in advance (over 3 weeks). We got there about 20 minutes early so I checked in with the hostess (who were very rude and not very attentive - in fact I had to say ""hello"" first after standing in front of them for over a minute). I checked back after 20 minutes and saw we were 2 tickets away. Another 10 minutes goes by and we are still all standing around. Meanwhile people who came in after me had already been seated. I checked the desk again and a woman in front of me was complaining to the hostess. She stated she was very sorry for the wait and their party was her priority and she would be the next to be seated. So I walked over and asked the woman what time her reservation was and she was 30 minutes later than mine! I saw them finally hand our ticket off and we headed to our seat at the far end of the restaurant. We walked by plenty of food stations, which looked good and since we were 30 minutes after our reservation (50 minutes of standing around) we were ready to eat! We get to the dining room and there is no table available. Slight mix up and they ask us to stand around while they bus a table (with a view so ok we can wait). Seconds turned into minutes...10 actually and still no bussed table. The seater comes back and says follow me I have a much better table for you. We walk all the way back to the opposite side of the restaurant where we are seated in the middle of the room...this is better then the view?? We sat down 40 minutes after our reservation time. We had two babies - no highchairs. He promises to be right back - he never came back. We finally get seated. Food was just ok...lot's of things were gone. The omelett guy was never around. Multiple plates were dirty. Bill was wrong 3 times. For a rest. famous and always sold out for Mother's Day I would have thought they could have done much better! For a $500+ meal I expect better. Pros: Nice view Cons: Bad for holiday or special occasion more

I would recommend, but... 5/11/2008

I'm pretty selective when it comes to restaurants, so any restaurant that has bad service automatically is scratched off my list of restaurants worth recommending. However, I made an exception today - for Orange Hill Mother's Day Brunch. Because I had made reservations a month in advance, I didn't want to cancel, although I was so tempted. When I called to confirm my reservation, the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude. \r \r I don't care whether she had PMS or if she is a miserable human being at all times, when you are hired to offer good customer service, you better leave your bad attitude at home.\r Anyway, I hoped that her rudness was not contagious and that other staff members would be courteous the next day. \r \r Needless to say, I expected the worst (I had very low expectations), but was determined to enjoy the holiday with my family. To my surprise, the experience was wonderful (I did avoid the front desk women - I could see that they were surly and some flustered - probably from the hectic schedule they had on Mother's Day). \r \r The restaurant has a beautiful view, the food was in abundance (what you would expect from a brunch) and luckily the waiter was so nice (Dave or David). Not sure if all the other waiters are as nice and professional as he was, but I was happy to meet him. Just a quick note: their regular brunch does not offer as many selctions as they prepare on special holidays - but I'm sure you'll have enough to eat from a variety of foods (meats, seafood, omlettes, desserts), etc. \r \r I will go back again, next time for dinner - check out their patio and fire pits/side table. You'll be hearing from me for sure if my next culinary experience is unsavory. By the way, this brunch was 10 times better than the St. Regis brunch and less expensive. more

Great customer service 4/29/2008

Orange Hill Restaurant is great for special occassions; from the moment you start up the driveway, you know this restaurant is set apart from others. The view is wonderful and the seating is arranged so that everyone enjoys it. We had heard about the delicious calamari but did not find it on the menu. We mentioned it to our waiter and he was all to happy to accommodate us. The service was p-e-r-f-e-c-t. Not fussy, yet very professional, he made us feel comfortable and was there for our every need. He allowed us to enjoy our conversation but seemed to know just when to come around. The food itself wasn't extraordinary. This restaurant is not about the food as much as it is the atmosphere. I would recommend it and plan to return. Pros: Romantic dining, view, service Cons: Food, prices more

Amazing view, good food, charming and romantic atmosphere 1/12/2008

Orange Hill Restaurant will always be my first choice when friends come to CA to visit. The atmosphere is very pleasant with coy ponds, waterfalls and a fireplace. The view of the city lights is beautiful and the food has been excellent every time I've gone there. I particularly like their Filet Mignon. The do, however, need to lose the music on their website. Pros: Wonderful atmosphere, gorgeous view, very romantic more

Great atmosphere! 1/10/2008

As some people may know, the Orange Hill restaurant is a very nice place for fine dining located on top of the hill (Orange Hill). They have got good food and a fairly reasonable price.\r \r What I really like about this restaurant is their atmosphere. Especially when it is sunset, the sunlight produces a very romantic atmosphere. Try this place for some special occasions like, anniversary or Birthdays. With your beloved one or with your family...either way you will have a great time!\r \r After the meal, take a little walk to the outside balcony(even when it's cold!!!) and enjoy the night view~. You can see the fire works from Disneyland too!\r \r Price: $25.00 - $40.00\r \r Great atmosphere!\r \r Cleanliness [rating:95/100]\r \r Menu [rating:80/100]\r \r Decor [rating:95/100]\r \r Quality [rating:95/100]\r \r Price [rating:80/100]\r \r [rating:overall]\r \r Credit Cards: Yes\r \r Fine Dining: yes\r \r Casual Dining: no Pros: Ambience more

Best romantic spot in town! 12/9/2007

My boyfriend and I dined here for our Anniversary, before our reservations I had read a few unsatisfied reviews and it made me a little iffy about the place, however, I have to say everything from the food and service was great. Both my boyfriend and I had the Prime Top Sirlon and they were delicious. Also, a couple next to us had the lobster tail which looked delicious and tasty! Not to mention the incredible view this restaurant has of Orange County. I can say this is the best place in town! We got seated within two minutes of walking in the door, and in top of that there was a holiday party going on. Everyone was dressed very nice, I saw many women wearing dresses and men wearing ties. I highly recommend this restaurant! more

Nothing special. Food wasn't that great but fantastic view. 11/1/2007

I took my girlfriend to this restaurant for our anniversary and I could honestly say it wasn't anything special. I had the ny steak medium rare but that thing was more rare than medium rare. My girlfriend had the salmon and she said it was okay. She wasn't blown away by it but she said it was good. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was the better than the steak and the salmon. The service was average. The server seemed pretty unprofessional. So the food and the service was average but I was blown away by how nice it was. Driving up the the restaurant, the trees were lit up and there was a nice fireplace and pond outside. Also, the view was fantastic. Pros: the view and ambience Cons: Expensive for the quality of food and service more

A romantic escape high on the hillside!! 3/9/2007

Me and my fiance` dined here for Valentine's day weekend and it was the most romantic restuarant I have been to. The service was outstanding... we arrived without a reservation and they were able to seat us fairly quickly. The food was absolutely delicious! This is fine dining at it's best. I can't wait to go again. Pros: Ambience, and the atmosphere is so romantic. more

Excellent...but just shy of perfect. 2/5/2007

This was my second time dining at this superb restaurant. My first time dining there was nearly twenty years ago and it was exactly as I remembered it. This time, it was for my fiance's birthday and the experience was better than I had expected it to be. The view was spectacular once the sun had set and I thought the fire pits out on the patio just added to the romantic setting. I do suggest making reservations well in advance and arriving early if you want to request a window seat. I have to deduct the first point for lack of service in the cocktail lounge. I had to get up myself to flag down a cocktail waitress ""mingling"" just twenty feet away only to be disappointed by a sub par pomegranate martini. Although, the lemon drop was fairly good. Next, we are off to our table and to be honest, I had my doubts from the mixed reviews I had read about the service. However, our waiter had changed that with the first-rate service he gave us. He was very attentive with good timing and we felt comfortable throughout the entire evening. The food was savory not to mention the delicious complementary birthday cheesecake for my fiance. The calamari appetizer was the best I've had. The only other point I have to deduct was due to the Ahi being served cold, but our waiter had fixed this within five minutes. After dinner, we relaxed at our table enjoying the view with our wine. Speaking of which, they have an excellent wine selection and the Mondavi was a great choice for a cabernet sauvignon. Although there were plenty of other people dining, it was still a very intimate dining experience. I highly recommend this place! more

Everything was GREAT!!! 1/15/2007

From the moment we entered until we parted, the experience at this CLASS A establishment was awe inspiring! \r This was a second date with a very special gentleman and my birthday. As we drove up the winding road to the top of this breathtaking view, you could tell you were in for something special. The valet parking is a wonderful touch to the all around experience. The moment I saw all of the twinkly lights from the ""OC"", my breath was taken away. \r Upon entering and announcing our arrival, I was wished a ""Happy Birhtday"" from the wonderfully bubby receptionist. \r Our waiter, Russell, was a joy. He didn't rush us, or keep coming back to see if we were ready to order. Instead, he would just kind of 'peek in on us' to see if we needed more water, tea, bread, or anything else. \r We sat and watched the lights and talked for nearly 30minutes before we ordered. All the while, knowing we were being well watched after by Russell. We never once felt 'hurried.' The food arrived much quicker than I expected and was absolutely delicious...how could it have been any different? Between my date, the food, and the lights out in front of me, it was a perfect evening!!!\r After dinner, the plates were removed and there was Russell, making sure we were comfortable. What an experience. \r My date and birthday will be remembered as one of the 'best' I have had!!! We fully intend to come back during the summer when we can sit out on the patio and feel the warm SO CAL breezes while we eat.\r Thank you Russell, and thank you ""Kelly"" for an amazing evening!!! I won't be forgetting this evening for a long time.\r I would suggest if you are looking for one of the most beautiful evenings you have had, you should seriously consider joining the ranks of us that loved what we were given at this very fine establishment...\r Detta Cavangh\r Huntington Beach CA\r What a view!!! more

Orange Hell II 12/27/2006

The service here is so horrendous, so inattentive and so rude that it spoils the view, and ruined our night. We were a party of 14 celebrating a small family reunion. Like another reviewer, we had to ask for water three times before anyone paid attention. The sommalier must certainly be a phony. When he brought our Spanish wine to the table and I asked if it was a Tempranillo (a common Spanish grape,) he had no idea and had to read the label, constantly changing his mind. Then he started pouring before the host had even tasted it. (Isn't part of the price at a good restaurant supposed to be for a properly executed and magical meal?) When one of our guests sent her steak back to be cooked just a little more, it didn't return until EVERYONE ELSE was finished!! And finally, the dessert tray was brought to the middle of the table so that people on either end couldn't hear what he was saying. When my wife asked to get a closer look, he muttered something under his breath and rolled his eyes before shoving it under her nose. And the food? Seriously...this is as close to restaurant fraud as one gets. Don't be held hostage to ""the view."" There are plenty of other magical restaurants in Orange County with great ambience and wonderful food. more

Christmas Brunch - View great, but . . . 12/25/2006

The server was inattentive, and we had to make several requests for drink refills, even going so far as to ask two other employees before receiving our first soft drink refill. The soft drinks were extra, with no free refills, so you would have thought they'd want to sell more! \r Quality of food was inconsistent. Prime rib was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chicken, however, was extremely dry. The breakfast items such as french toast, eggs, etc. were taken away too early, to be replaced by lunch/dinner items that were already available at three other serving areas. \r \r The food quality and service did not live up to the $100 pricetag, before tip, for two people.\r \r The tables were too close together. The view was, indeed, as wonderful as everyone has said. Pros: View, view, view! Venue is also nice. Cons: Tables too close, food inconsistency, service more

The most romantic view in OC hands down! 10/4/2006

I had gone to this place with my father several times as a little girl and was reminded of this hidden gem by a friend of mine who got married there several months ago. So I made a date with my bf and surprised him by taking him to Orange Hill. \r \r The restaurant was just as I remembered it (if a little smaller than it appears in my childhood mind's eye). Elegantly appointed, but not overdone. We were lucky enough to be seated at one of the tables against the expansive windows and enoyed our cocktails and hors d'oeuvres as the last bit of orange glow disappeared over the horizon. \r \r As many other reviewers have mentioned, the fare was good but not great. You definitely feel like you're paying a hidden surcharge for the spectacular view. But if ambiance is what you're looking for, rather than a 5 star meal this is your place. The atmosphere in Orange Hill is effortlessly romantic. That being said, my bf and I will definitely follow the lead of some of the other reviewers by patronizing OH for cocktails and the view while having dinner elsewhere. \r \r The service was good (again, nothing spectacular, but good). We were seated promptly and our server was friendly and attentive. One thing my bf didn't love about the service was that the bussers seemed to hover in anticipation of his finishing so they could whisk away his plate.\r \r One more thing I'd like to add is that the martini list was great with offbeat selections! \r \r Overall, this is a great date spot, even if it's your ""drinks before dinner"" selection, you will be sure to impress if you take her (or him!) to Orange Hill. more

great view 8/28/2006

not the best food i've every tasted, but the view adds extra flavors to the food and made it an awesome experience. more

great views, not good for kids 8/21/2006

I went there for a wedding dinner. We suppose to have reservation for 7:30 didn't get in till 9:00. They book 2 parties for the same night. We had a pre fix menu. The kids had past on the squash and carrot the youngest didn't care for it. The only thing that have to drink was wine or water. Nothing for people who didn't drink or anyone under 21. There was no refill and it took the waiter long time to refill the water glass. For $50 a person they could've done a better job coffee came after the cake and as right as people was leaving. The only good part about the restaurant was the view. Pros: the view Cons: foods for kids more

Great Menu and Wine List 6/29/2006

What a great place for food, wine and a Fabulous view all of OC and parts of LA. I went with my husband for our 15th anniversary and we haven't been there in 3 years but 1 of our friends told us about how the place has changed. Their Executive Chef Jason Pena stopped by our table and actually talked to us for a few minutes and talked about the changes he and the general manager Steve Meek have made since his arrival in . We asked the chef for the copy of the menu and he was more than willing to give us one. The Lamb was excellent it was pinenut crusted and served with a blueberry merlot sauce that was to die for. And the barramundi which is similar to a seabass was served with saffron rice and a plum vanilla sauce. People say the place is overpriced but i am a foodie and compared to other places that i do go and eat this establishment has great prices for great food with a view!! Pros: food, wine, view Cons: parking more

Over priced 5/22/2006

While the view is great, the food is mediocre, the service is terrible and the prices of food are on the side of outrageous. I had to ask three times just to get a plain glass of ice water. Save your money, go somewhere else. Pros: view Cons: food, service, prices more
