Best

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

Worst

When you pay $26 for a brunch buffet, the best item on the buffet should NOT be the waffles. Unfortunately that was the case here. To their credit, the waffles were damn good. ...

Best Food! Best Service! Best wine selection! Most Romantic! 5/1/2007

I have been to the Inn many many times and have not been disappointed once! By many I mean at least once a month. The location is absolutely beautiful. The service has always been prompt and friendly. The food is absolutely amazing! There has never been a dish with no flavor. Everything that I have ordered has had such amazing flavor that I am almost speechless everytime! I have had the chef come out and great our table and I've seen him at other tables. Its nice to see the man behind this great place. The new owners have done a lot of great things with the place also. Its hard to imagine anyone not liking the Inn. It is my favorite in the twin cities by far. Very romantic and the food is to die for. Pros: Food, Ambience, Wine, Service Cons: nada more

New owners clueless, avoid for special occasions! 4/17/2007

Went for Valentine's Day dinner, but was not advised when we made reservations that only a $79 per person set menu would be available. Sadly, the menu did not appeal to us, and we told the server this. The owner came over, and his response was, ""the staff was instructed to tell everybody making reservations about the special menu."" He offered no apology and did not offer any assistance, such as getting us alternate entrees. It was too late to go somewhere else since it was Valentine's Day, so we stayed and split an entree. The portions were unbelievably small and the food was horrible. The owner stopped by later to see how we liked the live music, and seemed oblivious to the fact that we had barely touched the one entree that we had ordered. \r We were appalled to notice they set up extra tables in a hallway to accomodate the extra demand for tables-- I can't imagine spending that price to sit there! \r \r Prior to this we'd been to Nicollet Island Inn several times and enjoyed it. We will, however, never return. Cons: owner who's oblivious to customer service more

A Night to Remember 12/29/2006

I came with a party of 6 and arrived 45 minutes early (our own fault) fully expecting to sit at the bar for that time.\r The host bent over backwards for us, getting us a table early.\r The waiter eloquently described everything on the menu we were curious about, making suggestions and cracking jokes.\r The food came and everything was wonderful!!! The salads, crab cakes, and all of our steaks were perfect. The bacon wrapped tenderloin was like butter. The little silver dessert platter was amazing. \r Never once did we feel rushed during our 2.5 hour feast.\r I would highly recommend this place to anyone for a special occasion. Pros: Food, Service, Location more

What an experience 12/10/2006

My husband took me here (after three years of begging) for my 30th birthday, and it was well worth the wait. What a true dining experience. The food - was too good to adequately be described. We started off with the scallops - and I feel now that I know what scallops should taste like. We each then had a salad - both of which were creative and extremely flavorfull. For our main dishes I had the bacon wrapped beef tenderloin, which literally was like butter - and my husband had the special of the night - char. Both of us ranted and raved through the whole dinner. The owner came and offered us a glass of champagne on him, at the same time our waiter was coming with his own for us. We shared an unbelievable bottle of wine, and our dessert was on the house - for no reason. The waiter was gracious and knowledgeable without being overbearing. \r Our overall bill about made my heart stop - but we expected it. We went all out for the occassion, but commented on the fact that had we been more conscious about what we were ordering you could have a night out there without a final heart stopping bill. I cannot wait for the next occassion I can come up with that will be worthy of another date at the Nicollet Island Inn more

WOW!! 12/6/2006

WOW! WOW! WOW! THE BEST EXPERIENCE! WE HAD THE BEST FOOD THE BEST ROOM THE BEST OF EVERYTHING IT WAS JUST GREAT! Pros: THE WHOLE THING!! Cons: NOTHING more

Lovely brunch, but how about some more options? 11/9/2006

Mandatory-course brunch (pricey) with limited selection, although all excuted very well. Atmosphere is the true winner of brunch. Would be nice to be able to order off of an ala carte menu for brunch as well, in case you didn't want to have a multi-course brunch. Pros: It's all about the atmosphere Cons: Limited selection more

what a spot in the city 11/5/2006

food good, love the patio and selection on menu. Great parking and location. Service was great also. I would go back again and again. A great place for the holidays and to stay the night if your alone and want a special treat or just to be romantic together more

Romantic weekend get-away! 9/5/2006

Romantic setting with delicious food! Staff is well trained and courteous. Excellent location for private walks along the river. Pros: Beautiful location. Cons: Older rooms. more

Another Great Anniversary Dinner! 5/10/2006

My husband and I just celebrated our third anniversary at the Nicollet Island Inn, which has become our tradition and a meal that we look forward to. We had a great dinner and an overall great time. The host was friendly and quickly observed that we were celebrating our anniversary. After a glass of wine in the bar, we were seated at a great window table. My husband and I shared a special dinner for two, which was the perfect meal to share and included beef tenderloin and lobster. Our waiter even brought our dessert with a candle in it! The Inn has become a very special place for us and we always have a great time. We know that we can look forward to a great dinner in a romantic setting, and I would definitely recommend it for special occasions. Pros: free parking, good view more

Worst Anniversary 4/9/2006

My husband and I decided to spend our 15th Anniversary at the Nicollet Island Inn. We were expecting a wonderful experience as we had in previous years. Much to our dismay, alot has changed and not for the better. Our hostess was not friendly or helpful and acted as if herding cattle without much thought. When our food arrived, late, it was dry and tasteless, our server didn't much care but seemed more interested in finishing us up as quickly as possible. We were not asked how everything was and frankly we did not want to waste another moment of our special day. We won't be back and would not recommend it to anyone wanting more than below average food quality/service. Cons: Service, Food, People more

Weekday treasure 3/10/2006

We stayed at the Inn last Wednesday night for a business meeting the next day. What a wonderful suprise. The rooms have been completely updated. They were so elegant and welcoming. The Aveda products were a plus. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and very gourmet. The entire mid-week experience was a nice change of pace at this beautiful, romantic historic landmark. Pros: Romantic, Quiet getaway, Great ambiance more

Best Brunch! 3/3/2006

A favorite spot of ours to go, we had not been there in about a year. After hearing about new owners and a new brunch we dicided to give our old favorite a try. The food was delicious and was presented in such a beautiful manner! Our sevice was prompt and our waiter was very attentive. The setting of the Inn added to our overall enjoyment of the brunch. Kudos to the new owners! We will definately be back soon! more

Wonderful experience 3/2/2006

I work near the Inn and pass by it every day. It is such a beautiful landmark that it is easy to forget about it as a dinner destination. After seeing the Inn on a local news broadcast, I decided to give it a try for dinner. It was as wonderful as I remembered, and even more so thanks to some obvious improvements and renovations. The food was top notch -- flavorful and cleverly presented, especially the Chicken Roulade (my wife ordered it but I couldn't resist stealing a bite or two!). The romantic atmosphere is second to none in the city. I will definately not forget it again as I plan to return often. more

Brunch A Big Disappointment 2/23/2006

Four of us visit various Sunday brunches throughout the Twin Cities area. We tried the Nicollet Island Inn - never to try again. The $30 price is way out of line when you consider what you receive, portions are among the smallest I have seen anywhere - food was average at best - service was very bad. Obviously many have caught on as dining room was less than half full for the brunch. It's a shame - great location - great ambience - but bad food and even worse service makes The Nicollet Island Inn a place we will on ""drive by"" from now on. Pros: Location Cons: Food Taste, Food Portions, Service more

A Real Gem 2/19/2006

I hadn't been to the Inn in a few years, but I went back when I heard about their new owners. I've gone back several times since, because the experience is always reliably wonderful. I think they have a new chef, and the food is top-notch. I take clients there occasionally for breakfast or lunch, and take my wife for dinner. I've also heard that the brunch is fantastic. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more

Wonderful Brunch! 2/15/2006

We really enjoyed celebrating our birthdays at the NII for Sunday Brunch. The food was excellant and the service was outstanding. We love the new brunch menu and the many exciting course options. We were pleased & surprised by the variety of wonderful flavors, it was so filling. We also recently ate dinner there and we were very pleased with our food/wine/desserts! Hats off to the chef! Pros: Great food, friendly staff more

please read this and others 12/15/2005

My husband and I wanted to check out the brunches around the Twin Cities. This was recommeded and was the first place we went. Well if this is what is thought of as great food I think I'll eat at home. The brunch menu was too limiting. We felt that the portions were very small for the price. The food was blah! NO taste. The service was slowwwww! The staff was rude and aloof. The view? Well I've seen nicer streets. All together this was a very dismal experience. We'll not return or recommend. Cons: bad service, bad attitude, bad food more

Yes, you should read the other reviews 7/19/2005

First off, what is with that review that's titled ""Don't read the others""? That just smells phony to me. They're saying don't even READ what other people have to say. Give me a break. I went to dinner with my wife. It was a romantic time because we were going to have a good time nomatter where we went. Service was fine. Food was not awful, but not very good. The idea of the meal and presentation were ""fine dining""--execution of the meal itself (the taste) just wasn't there. I'm not that picky. Completely flavorless tuna. Accompanying vegetables grossly undercooked (no care). Atmosphere was nice, but mostly flaccid. Not snooty, just flavorless. Like the tuna I guess. I wouldn't go back for dinner. I'd have better odds trying any place that I hadn't been before. So, in summary, flaccid and flavorless in a nice shell. Pros: nice location Cons: flaccid, flavorless more

Don't read the others - 6/12/2005

We went on 5/10/2005 for our anniversary, had no problem with reservations or service. The food was beyond excellent, dinner with soup for an appetizer and a glass of wine each came to $125; not your weekly dinner out but great for celebrating or taking friends visiting the area. Food was beautifully presented, more

Never Again! 5/10/2005

My party of 5 arrived at 3:50 (4:00 reservations) , checked in and watched as party after party were seated. While waiting for nearly and hour, not one employee approached us and told the estimated wait time was or offered a glass of water, at minimum. While waiting I walkied back into the dining area and saw 2 tables for 5 that were empty and could have been occupied by my party. Finally sat down at 4:50 to warm glasses of water and trash that littered the floor next to our table. Besides the fact the quiche was cold and the water warm, the first course did not arrive until 5:45. Nothing was done to rectify this situation; I feel this establishment cares about instead of the quality of service and I would NOT recommend this location. The special occasion brunch at $35.00 per person is not worth your time! more
