Mission Oak Grill

I have been driving by that big church on Green Street and only recently realized there is an INCREDIBLE restaurant inside- Mission Oak Grill!!! It is really worth checking out how they were able to transform a church into a sophisticated restaurant with an open kitchen and amazing bar area. Kudos to the design team. On my few visits service has been professional and I would feel very comfortable entertaining clients here. The food has been very consistent but my favorites are the tuna tartare and the filet mignon... more

I love the Mission Oak Grill. I went with my girlfriend one night and while we were waiting to be seated, we had a few drinks at the bar and some appetizers. The bartender was a really cool, funny guy and the Onion soup was really good. When we were seated, I ordered the rib-eye steak, my girlfriend got the filet mignon. Her filet was cooked perfectly and she really enjoyed it. My rib-eye Steak was fantastic; it was huge and cooked perfectly. It was so good that I was literally laughing as I ate it. I had an exceptional dinner last night at Mission Oak. Ambience is nice enough, with the best perk being that you're very well spread out in the dining room so you can easily have your own conversations without hearing others or being heard. The drinks were pretty great. My dining partner and I stuck with vodka based drinks, and were especially fond of the Martinis Drinks were great, but they were potent. * Food was across the board good, with some exceptional offerings. We started with Tuna Tartar which I thought was outstanding. We each had the filet and they were both delectable and cooked perfectly. We had a soft chocolate cake for dessert and were stuffed. Service was great the whole night. Our server started off a little over eager, but once she realized the pace at which we were trying to enjoy ourselves things went smoothly. She was personable, but not overbearing and had some solid suggestions. We will be back. more

For a great meal in a nice restaurant, this is the place. Compared to it's steak house rivals, Mission Oak offers a great value and some very nice dishes.Loved the scallops the food is pretty darn good and the ambiance is quite nice too. more

My husband and I have been here a few times and always had a great meal. this time I had the Mixed Grill. I thought it was great. The fries had me wanting more. My husband had the Tips and potato salad like he always does and they were done to perfection. We always come back and will continue to go there. always a great time. Allie more

this is a hidden jewel. I got a gift certificate for this restaurant for Christmas. I wanted a good meal so I made a reservation and we went there last night. It was not so busy but busy enough. The service was great. We received our food while it was still hot and everything was cooked great. Our dessert was scrumptious,we will go back even without a gift certificate more

I really liked this place. We had no reservation and we were in the area so we thought we would try to get in. Glad we did. We had such a great meal. It took us about 25 minutes to get a table but we had no reservation and it was busy so that was no big deal. Once we were seated we got the tuna tartar for an app and that was so good we asked for more bread to go with it as they do give you a lot. then My boyfriend got the 22 oz BONE-IN Beef RIBEYE cooked med-rare? with the Onion Strings and Mashed Potatoes and Fried Carrots,he was in hog heaven. I got the scallops with rissotto and asparagus and I was very pleased. more

Hubby and I ate here for the first time this weekend. We went for a Christmas celebration and were pleasantly surprised! To start, we were seated just to the right of the front door. We weren't cold in the slightest. Our server was amazing. Although there were 8 of us on a Saturday night, he never faltered. All the food was served together, drinks were never empty. As others have mentioned, the foccacia with hummus was different and delicious! My husband's petite Cesar was good, but he would have liked a bit more salad dressing on it. I had the pan seared scallops with risotto and It very well could be one of the best meals ever! The risotto was cooked perfectly, as were the scallops. My husband's Filet had good flavor and was cooked perfectly. Fries were unbelievably good. Everyone else loved their food and drink and I think they hooked a few more new customers to boot. more

I was in Newburyport visiting friends and we decided to go here for drinks. We went in and it was a little busy but we got a seat at the bar. We werent so keen on bar food but when we got the menu we were impressed. the food sounded great. We got a couple of drinks and the Beef chili and a big burger with an egg in it ""So Good"" The bartender was very friendly and we had a very enjoyable time. we will try dinner next time. more

I went here to meet my party of 6 and I have to say that my experience was great.When I got there the hostess informed me that the last party was running late and they told me that I could wait in the bar area and the place was very busy.When We went to the bar there were 6 martinis waiting for us. We were told compliments of the management for having to wait.. That was so thoughtful. I love the ambiance. We were seated not long thereafter and the waitress was great. She answered all of our questions about the specials time and again. and was very on top of things. I got the small ribeye The steak was fantastic, seasoned just right.and the sides were all great. we all shared. We had such a great time. We also got a couple of desserts to share. I loved the melted chocolate cake. All in all it was a great time. Will be back. more

Ya the Glass thay gave me was broken and thay didnt give me a new one right a way the steak i got sucked thay didnt cook it right ... And they didnt give me my money back i will never go there. Cons: Steak not cooked right and glass broken more

I visited the Mission Oak Grill last Saturday night with a few friends and have a new favorite place to meet for dinner and drinks! This place is in an old church but once on the inside, you could be at a hip city restaurant without hurting your wallet! This place was busy but the atmosphere was fun and lively. We had a drink at the bar while we waited a reasonable 20 minutes for a table. Once seated - our server greeted us quickly and got us going with some more drinks as we browsed the menu. I liked the variety on the menu from seafood to steaks and I love that the food all had some interesting flair to it. All of the dishes my friends and I ordered were incredibly delicious wit h fresh ingredients. There were many ""oos and ahhs"" as we consumed our meals. We finished with shared desserts for the table and some dessert wine recommended by our server. Everything about this place is great and I highly recommend people driving to Newburyport just to check this place out. As my friends and I left the restaurant, we were full and satisfied and truly felt the great food and atmosphere was close to a religious experience! Holy deliciousness! So a Valentine's Day on a Saturday? That could have been a head ache. But we made reservations at the Mission Oak via their website and got a reservation close to our desired time. When we arrived, this place was hopping. The romantic vibe of the low lights and dark leather of the booths made for great ambiance. We arrived a bit early to have a drink at the bar which was packed full of couples and larger parties alike. We were able to get a drink pretty quickly even though the bartenders were very busy with some who chose to eat at the bar. The hostess approached us to let us know our table was ready and we were seated at a table in front of the open kitchen, allowing us to preview many menu items and enjoy the aromas. The menu was impressive with many cuts of meat to choose from and great specials. We choose the special appetizer of artichoke dip with homemade pita chips. It was the perfect appetizer with a twist, a common theme at the Mission Oak, served on an roasted red pepper salad. My fiance wanted the filet mignon but they had run out. He ended up having the Kansas City sirlon which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I had the churrasco steak which was out of this world. This was not the traditional churrasco presented on a skewer but with a great presentation of sliced tender steak with a chimachuri sauce and shoe string fries. So good and the meat was perfectly tender. We finished this fabulaous meal with the smores brownie which was fun and kept with the romantic theme we had hoped for.
