My name is Martin Gurfinkel and I am the owner of MCM Property Management. I am disturbed by negative reviews I read on this site. I have an extremely hard working, professional staff working for me. We strive to accomodate our tenants' and owners' needs as quickly and competently as humanly possible. I noticed some of the more egregious reviews were written by tenants that were either noticed for non payment of rent, were cited for disturbing other tenants or denied specific requests ie: for new carpeting or a new air conditioner, etc. (because They wanted new and not repaired). We have had thousands of tenants over the years, most of whom are honest, happy people that do not have interpersonal problems with myself or my staff. \r \r We manage these properties for our clients, we do not own them. It is our job to balance the owners' net income and respond to any tenant request for upgrades. Ultimately, it is the owners' decision how they want us to allocate their money.\r \r The City of Los Angeles has a system of code enforcement that comes out annually to check for deficiencies in each and every unit at a property, and we have never failed a final inspection. We address repairs immediately and thoroughly. Life does get better. MCM was finally FIRED for negligence with our owners. They neglected to collect rent from a tenant for a year. Let in NIGHTMARE tenants that they later had to evict. This company is nothing but a slow motion train wreak. NONE of those ""glowing"" reviews on here are real. They're either paid reviews or just MCM posting them because NO ONE would say nice things about MCM after they have met them. And Barbara, if you're reading this, you know this is true and you know I'm getting the last laugh seeing you kicked out. more

Unbelievably Bad 2/1/2012

These guys recently took over management of the building I live in. Since they have taken over the property has taken a massive nose dive. Prior to their management the tenants all got along well, but since MCM took over they have managed to turn all the tenants against each other. They talked about developing the place but that just means a lot of noise, debris, and trash left by contractors working on the one vacant unit. Since they began to manage the place homeless people have moved into the parking lot. Management personnel are typically rude over the phone and in person. I can not recommend this management company to anyone. more

You need to read ALL of the reviews on here, as they are NOT all being factored into the overall rating for MCM. MCM states that they are a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating. However, when checking with the Los Angeles BBB website it states that, ?This business is not BBB accredited.? Check for yourself at the BBB website for Los Angeles. (CitySearch will not allow me to add the hyperlink...) Martin Julius Gurfinkel should be ashamed of himself, but since Marty Gurfinkel has no shame that isn?t about to happen anytime soon. Candice Gurfinkel, Barbara Jager and Sonia O?Brien?all a bunch of liars and crooks. STAY AWAY FROM ANY THIS BUSINES more

Caveat Emptor! 8/5/2011

The comments posted about MCM being a good or even reputable company should be taken with a big heaping chuck of kosher salt. Marty Gurfunkel is a sneak and a liar, Barbara Jager (or maybe Jaeger) is duplicitous and the owner of one of their properties, Sonia Obrien, is a complete scoundrel. It always, always, always takes multiple calls to get things fixed. I sympathize with the person who said he/she had to take off time from work on 3 separate occasions to meet MCM?s workers who never showed up. When things are fixed, they?re done irresponsibly. Sonia Obrien kept sending this guy over to fix the hood on top of the stove, specifically the engine. When I called and told Barbara that the whole hood could be replaced new at Home Depot for like $30 to $40, she told me I didn?t know what I was talking about. When I said, ?Barbara, I?m looking at it right now online at the Home Depot website? she replied, ?The owner has the right to repair things as they see fit.? Right, and make the tenant suffer. But that?s just it about MCM, they casually overlook the covenant of quiet enjoyment ? especially Sonia Obrien who loves to just show up at the door and come in, ?oh, if it?s OK with you.? Stay far away from this company and never, ever sign a lease or any legal agreement with them. Caveat emptor. more

Thank you for promptly repairing/replacing the dimmer/light switch for the ceiling in my bedroom. It has a terrific night light feature when off which makes it so easy to find in the dark. Martin also provided a replacement shower head which is working beautifully. I greatly appreciate the very prompt response. And if no one has mentioned it, all the tenants in the building are great neighbors! more

MCM GRAND!! 3/14/2011

I moved into my MCM apartment in October of 2010, and since my move I have nothing but positive things to say about the company. During my initial apartment hunt and move in, the staff was friendly, professional, and prompt with each process of the lease agreement--making the move quick and easy. Obviously, each new home has its share of fix-ups and problems, but the staff at MCM has since responded quickly to each of my requests and fixed whatever problems the apartment has had. I feel very comfortable calling MCM when I have a question or concern, and I could not be happier to be living where I live with MCM management. more

They have been completely available and receptive to me; they really seem to care about making my apartment experience in LA a good one! No Complaints here! 3/8/2011

I too, have found MCM a PLEASURE to deal with! Perhaps it would behoove some tenants to get to know people before throwing complaints and insults at them? I make a point of going into the office in person to pay my rent. It's a way to get people to know you, and connect a face with a name and unit number. When I moved into my apartment four years ago it was the dead of winter and my heater was not working! They showed up here with space heaters for me to use while a brand new furnace/air conditioner was being installed! Typical plumbing repairs are done within a few hours, unless you are unlucky enough to have your dishwasher break on New Years Eve. That required a wait until TODAY because repair contractors were not open. MCM has always returned my calls in a timely fashion and I can't even think of going back to OWNING a home after this kind of service! So, maybe some people need to start speaking through a smile, and wait more than two hours for a plumber before ragging on the management. My advice: Buy a home and call a plumber. Try it. You will be back here before long. I also suggest you rent from my FORMER landlord for a while. That will help you see the BIG PICTURE as they say. more
