My experience began when I asked if they accepted my insurance. A polite yes and fill out these forms. Nothing surprising yet. However, my meeting with Dr. Mathews was pretty patronizing and though I am PhD student with a long history of seeing chiropractors, he still read the brochures out-loud to me like I was a kinder-gardener. This wouldn't have been so bad if the exam hadn't been manipulative and exaggerated my problem. He claimed that I had the body of an older person and my limited range of motion indicated a serious problem. Okay sure... maybe. He then ends the exam with manipulative questions: ""are you willing to change your lifestyle to get better?"" etc. \r \r The actual treatment was fine. Massage was excellent. No complaints here.\r \r My complaints get worse when I walk out the door and discover that in fact this office is out of my insurance coverage area. That they billed my insurance a huge amount and basically lied to me about what my insurance would and would not cover. They made a huge show of even bringing in the billing specialist. ""since you haven't met your deductible, it will be $70 copay today and then the later visits will be basically you usual $20 copay."" HOWEVER, my insurance does not consider it an in-network visit and will only pay 40% of the bill... Maybe it was all fair and above ground, but what I don't appreciate is basically lying to me at the outset when I asked if they took my insurance. \r \r Today, called the billing department to see if I could do anything about my feeling I had been overcharged and duped. Her exact words, ""I see this thing a lot here, when the doctors say we take your insurance that just means the insurance will pay something towards your coverage."" Well, if I had known that, I would have never used them in the first place. There was no apology. Nothing.\r \r Save your time and money, stay far away. more

My experience has been amazing! Everyone is so friendly and respectful...The outcome is making a difference in my daily routine as we speak! It was so hard and uncomfortable to move around, now that I am going through these treatments I feel the difference in a positive progress. Thank you :) more

I would love to share my success and hope that it would motivate anyone at Mar Vista that is in treatment. The first day I came to Mar Vista, I could barely walk. Over a couple of days, I could not walk at all!! Mar Vista went out of their way to make sure that I had the proper treatment that was tailor-made just for me and now I am a brand new person. I started treatments because of pain in lower back, neck and thighs. Although I have had chiropractic treatments off and on for years, within a few weeks pain had subsided so that I could bowl (which I had just started to do after 30 years) without any pain. Problem: Chronic Headaches I have suffered from chronic headaches for years. I usually had 3-4 per week. I was recommended by two co-workers (Kim Beran and Hilja Jaknowitz) also teachers, to try some adjustments in hopes it may help. IT HELPED! After I got into a car accident, I came to Mar Vista Institute of Health and they started treating me. I had never been to a chiropractor before so I didn't know what to expect, but they were very friendly and professional. My neck is already feeling better, and it was definately a good experience. I plan on going back for more treatments, and am glad that I had found a way to relieve the pain. more

From day one of my visits fo r my P.I. I could not sit comfortably, lay comfortably, or stand for that matter. With the help of the best chiro's ever, my status has improved a lot. Mar Vista Institute have helped me socially, emotionally and of course physically, when I started with this institute I was depressed because of my back pains. As I move through the therapy; I am moving much better, I feel good about myself, my system is cleaned out of the over medication of pain pills; I am loosing weight because I can exercise Ie: walking, stretching, moving freely, I am walking better. As of 3-26-2006 I am doing fine and I have no noticeable pain in my legs or lower back. I feel a little tightness but not pain as much. I am walking better, with the orthanis inside my shoes. It helps my to walk straighter I am not walking to one side and I am not bending over to walk. The most exciting thing about my therapy I have more energy now that I am not taking as much medication.
