UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE!!!!!! 4/5/2012

The owner is UNBELIEVABLY RUDE, and I have the emails to prove it. I have a Groupon that is not expired, but she will not honor for the services stated. She is, however, offering half of the purchase price for credit toward other services, which will be performed by students, not a professional like stated in the Groupon. more

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! 3/22/2012

I bought a Groupon for the FOY Academy. While I knew my mani/pedi would be from a student, I never imagined it would be so bad. From the time I stepped in the door, my negative experience began. I wandered around trying to find someone. The girl scheduled to do my nails was a no show so I was assigned to a girl that does hair and doesn't know nails. While the girl was very nice and apologized for not being prepared, it didn't fix the fact that I paid for and expected a spa mani/pedi. Cheri, the owner, is the one who assigned me to this student and even I could see the look on her face that she wasn't comfortable. I asked for a French manicure and was told she 'could try' or find someone else who could. My 'spa pedi' was a bucket of soapy water because she couldn't find the foot bath. Neither my fingernails nor toenails were trimmed and none of my cuticles done. I removed my mani as soon as I got home and re-did my nails myself. I blame the academy for 1) not having anyone to greet me knowing that I had an appt, 2) not having the proper supplies available, 3) knowing that this girl got stuck with me without notice, someone should have checked in on us to see how things were going. When I went to check out, the register was out of paper and there was no one around for assistance. All of this being said, the girl was very nice and did the best she could given the short notice. My gripe is that there was no supervision. Had someone been present much of this could have been avoided or rectified. Instead I lost TWO HOURS of my morning, $25, and ended up doing my own nails anyway. more

Beware 2/10/2012

Do not and I mean do not waste your time and money on this place. I confirmed my reservation prior to arrival. Once I arrived I was told their facial machine was broken. They did not tell me this over the phone. They said the same thing to another woman that was also scheduled to receive spa treatment from groupon. I am a frequent spa seeker and this one is by far the worse I have ever experienced. The staff were friendly but has a make shift spa operation. Florescent lighting, some type of fabric over head that covers outdated ceiling. A train passes by behind the building while you are trying to relax. I gave this place benefit of doudt based on other people's review. I should have listened because they were right on. Spend the money on a nice massage at a higher end salon. You pay for what you get.... more

Worst massage ever! Many better options in Mars! 11/9/2011

Worst massage ever! Their massage area is cold, damp, concrete walls, big industrial metal doors on one entire side of the room that apparently open to an alley, several steps down into the massage room at the very back of the salon. It feels like you're in a dungeon. Also, glaring, fluorescent lights overhead. And, the massage table wasn't even heated. Massage therapist had horrible breath and kept trying to talk in my face, until I told him ""no talking please, just massage."" No changing area. The restroom was dirty. Very uncomfortable & creepy place! more

WORST EVER 9/16/2011

This was absolutely the worst facial ever. I bought. Groupon a few months ago which was when I made my appt. The day before the appointment they called and said I was scheduled for 2 hours earlier. I told them it wouldn't work at that time and the agreed to take me at the time I originally scheduled. The address on theGroupon was wrong and I had to call to get directions. The receptionist said that I would have Cheri for my facial. ThenChris showed up and said she would do my facial. Two woman walked in and said they had massage appts and they were not on their schedule. I started getting nervous as I followed Chris past a sink of dirty dishes, down a ratty looking staircase and into a room with peeling paint. Just freakin' creepy. She kept on smothering me with the warm towel on my face but the funniest thing was when she said she was going to examine my face and she shined a light on it and that's it. Didn't look at the pores or blackheads. There was no bolster under my legs so it was very uncomfortable. Then at the end she told me to use Green Science because I had dry skin. Duh--I already knew that because I told her that was one of my concerns. Then I laid there for at least 1/2 hour waiting for the message therapist came in. He was good but this place was just downright creepy. No paper towels in the bathroom. Dirty...dirty..dirty. I am writing to Groupon too and I never write reviews. The Better Business Bureau should shut this place down. more

WORST FACIAL EVER!!! 8/10/2011

WORST FACIAL EVER!!! My friend and I had a terrible experience at the Fountain of Youth Salon and Spa in Mars and were denied refunds! We never want to go back, so being offered free services is unacceptable. Not only did they put us in an unfinished room TOGETHER, the lady that gave me my facial was not great. She 'massaged' my neck, but really it felt like she was dragging her knuckles up and down it, she went overboard on the amount of product she used, and forgot that I would need to breathe when she wrapped my face in the warm towels. Save your money and go somewhere else for spa services!!!! more

SAVE YOUR MONEY! 8/10/2011

My friend and I both purchased a $50 gift certificate from Just Pay Half?? Deal through a local news station for Aveda Fountain of Youth Spa. We first scheduled our spa appointments at the Pittsburgh location, a few weeks in advance. We both wanted services that include a massage, but this location only had 1 massage therapist, so my friend decided to get a facial instead. The morning of the appointment, they called to cancel because my therapist had to go to the hospital. Understandable, so we rescheduled for another few weeks out, but this time for the Mars location. I was scheduled for a body wrap, my friend for a Facial. The day of the appointment, I entered in the Address that I got off of the gift certificate into my GPS. We were to arrive 15 minutes early, except it took me to an incorrect location. When I then called the phone number on the certificate to get directions, I received a voicemail for a man who clearly wasn?t with the Fountain of Youth Spa. I decided to then call the Pittsburgh location, they were able to direct me relatively close the area the spa was located. Still unable to find it, we decide to park and walk until we found it. We found it about a block away, an area we already drove past, but no wonder we couldn?t see it, the sign was lying on the ground, out of view. At this point we are 10 minutes late for our appointments and annoyed we had so much difficulty finding the store. We walk into the spa and the place looks like a total mess. Carpet ripped up, paint stripped off the walls and ceilings, just everything you wouldn?t expect to see from a salon/spa, a place you are going to relax. The man at the counter apologized as he explained to us they had just moved 72 hours prior. I mentioned how they were difficult to find, and he told me they didn?t have time to call everybody and the address was changed on the website. (I can understand not getting time to call everyone, but how about calling the people with appointments?) The therapists then take us back to our room where the services will take place, well it turns out my friend and I are sharing a room, which they failed to mention. We obviously were expecting our own individual rooms. They tell us they?ll give us a minute to get ready and then come back in, closing the door behind them, which had no doorknob, only a fabric stuffed in the hole so you couldn?t see in. My male therapist proceeded to give me a massage for 45 minutes, NOT the service that I had requested. Although the massage was nice, it was difficult to completely relax while the other technician was talking to my friend about her facial. When I came out to pay, the man at the desk tried charging me for for a 60 min. massage. When we left I was able to contact the owner. She offered us free full service the following week, I told her thank you but we were in no way interested in coming back,we asked for discounted refund instead. She refused. NEVER going back. more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE 7/14/2011

The customer service here is nothing short of abhorent, with a flagrantly unapologetic ?it is what it is? attitude. My friend and I booked our appointments for July 1st many months ahead of time. We both respectively took vacation days from work to spend a full day of pampering and shopping together. Vacation days that we cannot give back or cancel. On the morning of July 1, my girlfriend thought it might be prudent to call the ?Fountain of Lies? Salon just to ensure that we had the correct times and that everything was confirmed prior to driving 45 minutes to get there. Thank God she did, because when she called she was told that the person who was appointed to complete our services didn?t show up for work and that we wouldn?t be able to get our treatments done. My friend, who was understandably jarred by this information, asked what would have happened if we would have just shown up, and she inquired why no one would have called us since we both live so far away. The receptionist esentially said that they would offer us extended treatments and enhance our services since there was nothing she could do, and began to offer rescheduled times?.when I say ?times,? I mean time?s?. We were offered our re-scehduled services broken up on different days, or on the same day with the two of us at very different times. At this point, my friend became a little frustrated and the receptionist said she would call her back as soon as she could find a time to fit both of our appointments in. I?m sure this will not be a surprise to any of your readers based upon my pervasive tone in this post, but NO ONE EVER called us back! We were both very disappointed. This was followed by a very interesting phone call the next day, July 2, from a male masseuse asking my friend where she was and why she didn?t show up for her massage appointment that day. My friend asked ?What appointment?? No one ever called me back to make an appointment.? The masseuse replied that she had an appointment and that my appointment was hours later than hers (which I also had no idea about). Nevermind the fact that the rest of the services we were supposed to get were not re-scheduled. The masseuse could hear that my friend was upset and offered to have someone from the office call the following Monday. At that point, she asked if she could speak to the owner. That was July 2. Now this week, my friend has just spoken with the owner. Moments of her life that she regrettably can never get back. The owner, Cheri, was flippant and devoutly unapologetic. She said that she would be happy to throw in a parrafin hand wax with our manicures for our troubles. Or soaking off our Shellac gel nail polish could be our extra service. Sitting in their establishment with a bowl of acetone now constitues a privilege, what a valiant service recovery effort!!! When my friend asked if our 30 minute massages could be extended in light of all of this, Cheri was happy to oblige??in exchange for our facial as a caveat of more

Good Luck Getting An Appointment! Poor Service! 7/14/2011

My wife tried to get an appointment here. She called multiple times over the course of two weeks and no one called her back. Even if they are busy they should call their potential customers back! Very poor customer service in my opinion. If you have a chance to see the comments on Groupon about them, please check them out. A lot of people that actually got in found out that it wasn't all it's cracked up to be. more

AWFUL! :( 7/13/2011

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not use this salon!!!!!!! I went to the Mars location and had a terrible experience. To tell you the whole story would take too long but I will give a quick run down. The facialist was 40 minutes late for my appointmet ( I was her first appoinment of the day.) I was left laying in a room without an explanation. The massage was terrible. The therapist kept walking away. I have had many massages and know that once they touch you they should not remove their hands until the massage is done. Lastly the manicure was so bad that I had to ask the girl to remove the polish. (I'm pretty sure this woman had never given a manicure in her life!) At that point I was 2 and a half hours into a 1 and half hour appoinment. I ended up leaving without my manicure. This is the short version of the story!! Please do not waste your time or money!\r more

Awful Service, Overcharged, Unknowledegable Stylists 6/29/2011

I had a similiar experience to KitKat225 back in March. I was searching for an Aveda salon, and had my hair done previously in Florida - just moved to the area. I stumbled upon Fountain of Youth, decided to give it a try. I made my appointment with a master stylist, Cheri Herold, the owner to get my hair colored. Upon sitting in her chair, she LEFT me, had two other stylists mix up my color, the one girl threw it on my head. It wasn't AT ALL what I asked for, and while I understand that hairdressers aren't magicians, I thought really, how could you mess this up. I asked for a natural color and didn't need any lifting whatsoever. The owner proceeded to LEAVE ME with her other stylists DURING my appointment with her. The one stylist kindly apologized and said she didn't know why Cheri had left and that it was rude of her to do so, which I appreciated. She came back when I was finished being blown dry and I told her I didn't like my hair, she rushed me to the front desk and proceeds to charge me HER PRICES!! - $69 for a cut by a JUNIOR stylist, and 70+ for color that she didn't even mix up or put on my head. I also heard her tell the stylist that apologized that some people are just crazy. I felt totally abused and she didn't apologize once or try to fix the problem. This woman is ridiculous and doesn't deserve to be a business owner, and Aveda needs to seriously reconsider letting her use the products in her salon. Also the salon was filthy, I hope it gets shut down. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You'd have better luck at Phillip Pelusi. more

UNPROFESSIONAL! Take your money and RUN! 6/23/2011

Totally unprofessional. PLEASE take the time to read other reviews on this place before you waste your money. My experience: Stylist was 25 minutes late. Her hands smelled like an ashtray. She damaged my clothing by dripping color on my pants. She actually had to be asked to use a cape! She got water in my ears and somehow managed to get conditioner on BOTH of my cheeks and my EYELID! The owner was flippant and disrespectful. I didn't receive an offer to replace my pants, an offer to pay for cleaning and the best part...NO APOLOGY! The real kicker is that my hair did not look ANY different than when I walked in because my low lights were underprocessed.\r As I said totally unprofessional. I am not the only reviewer out there that felt over charged and underserviced. more
